No APN specified on device. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Anybody run into this error when sending or receiving mms? I'm on cm11 and this was never an issue until today.

Yes just started today for me as well. Seemed to have started with the latest nightly for my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I tried resetting APN, no dice. Tried using Hangouts instead of stock, no change. I also tried flashing the nightly from 3/3 & was stuck in boot loop....I'm out of ideas, hoping the next nightly fixes this as I find it EXTREMELY annoying!

Try the program elixir2 from play store.
use titanium backup or similar to move it to a "system app" --- if you don't move to system it cannot write the apn settings!!
then when you run elixir2,,, tap the top left button labled "information",,, then look for and tap "Telephony",,, then tap "APN settings"
edit or add proper setting and remember to then tap the '3 dots' and 'Save' your work,,,
mms function should now work if you have the proper /etc/apn-conf.xml file
... if you need it just grab one from a previously working mms ROM and overwrite the 'apn-conf.xml' file and set permissions

Thank you for your quick reply, hhp_211. I tried copying the etc/apns-config.xml from the 3/3 nightly (which had worked fine), changed permissions & rebooted....still that pesky 'No APN specified on device' error. I did figure out how to make the error disappear, I switched to Hangouts & did a force stop on the Messaging app. A temporary fix until I figure something else out...

Cool, the .xml would only be half off the fix though... You need to set the apn
If you have the voice dialer app you can also use that and speak "open APN's" to get to the settings menu

I've tried all these things to no success, but thank you. I just switched over to PAC-man and hae the same results. Then went back to stock touchwiz 4.3 and mms works fine. I figured maybe if I restore touchwiz and then restore cm11 over it then mms might work but it still doesn't. I guess this is a kitkat issue only. Seems every kitkat rom i've tried have the same issue(s).

I tried an APN setting I found on the internet, it didn't work. Not sure what it should be....at any rate using Hangouts isn't too bad. Thanks for the suggestions hhp!

Found a fix for Verizon here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2053705&page=3
Essentially, in the MMSC spot in APN settings you put:
http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=1234567890
REPLACE 1234567890 with the 10 Digit Phone # of the Device.
Did this by opening Elixir2 (thanks for turning me on to this hhp!), go to Information, Telephony, APN Settings. LTE - Verizon Internet is already selected. Tap on it, and change the MMSC there and SAVE.
Hope this helps someone else! THANK YOU 4MUSKRAT & hhp!

JVH useragent problem

Have flashed JVH (GT_I9000_XWJVH_XXJVO_XEEJV3)with odin and rooted with CF-Root-XW_NEE_JVH-v3.2-CWM3RFS, and the good old user agent problem is back in stock browser and Dolphin HD. In Dolphin it says "Desktop" for user agent in settings, but if I try bbc.co.uk it takes me to the mobile site. Anyone else seeing this?
Try this, push to system/app but backup first. Thanks to criskelo for the tweak.
Thanks for that. Not sure if I am doing something wrong, but I used root explorer to copy over ( changed to r/w) and renamed my old one... but it still doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong? If I click on it in root explorer it trys to run the installer but fails?
TIA
Rename old 'browser.apk.bak' then paste new browser. You do not need to run installer. Either reboot or go to your launcher app drawer n click on internet icon. Good luck.
Yeah thats what I did... still the same . Are you running JVH
Sent you a pm.
Still no joy
Is no one else having problems with GT_I9000_XWJVH_XXJVO_XEEJV3 ??
Yep, I have the exact same issue!!
Anyone else seeing the problem? Anyone got a cure?
I can remember something like this on one of the older roms ( early Froyo I think) but can't find if that ever got cured by people or if Samsung cured it in an update?
After copying new browser apk across to system remember to set the permissions on it so it matches all other apks in folder
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I'm also using JVH and initially tried the browser file from this thread. The problem is not the useragent setting from the browser - it's working fine. The problem is that the phone is also sending out the x-wap-profile string as part of the http requests. Some sites are obviously disregarding the useragent string when they detect the x-wap-profile string.
I'm getting around the issue by using an app from the market called 'Filterproxy'. I've used the app to setup a proxy server on the phone and I'm routing the browser requests through the proxy. All the proxy server is doing is stripping out the x-wap-profile string from the http requests. Works great.
i have this problem to...really annoying. I have a problem with the market too, a lot of app doesn't show(ex: face, tiwiiter, and a lot of other), it is only with me??
Hey Rob would you kindly provide us with the exact procedure you used to setup Filterproxy? I'm sure many of us would appreciate it!
EDIT:
I've actually managed to get it working as well! For those wondering:
1) As Rob mentioned, install FilterProxy from the market
2) In the "Main" Tab of the app click the settings button which will direct you to your wireless & networks settings page
3) Go to Wireless and/or Mobile Network (Depending on which connection you are using)
4) a) For Wi-Fi simply go to Wi-Fi settings -> Advanced (Press the menu button)
4 b) For Data access go to Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Edit access point
5)set the Proxy to localhost
6)set the Port to 8000
7) Now head to the "HTTP Header" tab in the app
8)Fill the name box with "X-Wap-Profile"
9) Press the R button to place "(REMOVE)" in the value box
10) Press "Add"
Presto!
BTW in case this doesn't work try adding "x_wap_profile" as well

APN Settings revert after every reboot?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else has seen this:
I've added a new T-Mobile APN to specifically add 'dun' for Tethering. Everything else is the same as the stock 'locked' APN provided by T-Mobile.
My issue is, even though my 'new' APN has default as the first type, it always reverts back to the stock APN either at random, or when I reboot the phone.
Has anyone else seen this? Is there any way, with these newer phones to completely delete the 'stock' APN?
Thanks!
Yes I have experienced this as well. Any solution?

4. Select "Unlock APN".
5. Now go edit your stock APN.
Change the APN Type to this...

No hotspot on ATT Unlocked LG G6

Hello guys,
Im a bit desperate, when I try to enable mobile hotspot on my ATT Unlocked LG G6 (H871) it says auth failed and just won't share internet connection not thru wifi nor USB cable.
Please I will really appreciate your help, I need to work with my computer all the time using this function.
Thank you
An 871 may be carrier-unlocked, but it is not bootloader-unlocked. You can't root or install a different ROM, so you're stuck with AT&T's stock ROM; and if they don't have hotspot enabled in their build, there's nothing you can do about it as far as I know. Chances are their build is still trying to phone home to the carrier to check if you have hotspot in your data plan.

There are a bunch of third party tethering apps in Play Store, maybe you should try one of those.
Just had this same issue and found a solution, check the settings database editor mentioned here, as it worked on my at&t unlocked g6

Good to know.
1. Download "Settings Database Editor" at the playstore. The icon is a blue cog with red background.
2. Make sure youre in the "settings table" list
3. Find "tether_entitlement_check_state" then set it to "0".
Exit, should be working, if not, try a reboot.

LTE On Oreo After Root?

Ok so I use @jrkruse guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/root-s7-s7edge-oreo-nougat-t3819616 to root my SM-G935P on Oreo and it works great but I cannot get LTE working, Now when I rooted my phone on Android N with @godpowerrr tutorial https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/sm-g935p-spr-root-nougat-7-0-data-t3568780 and do the build.prop tweaks I get LTE working fine. LTE on Oreo
Try this. Go into your phone dialer and enter this secret code:
##3282# (puts you in programming mode)
Click edit.
For the MSL code, put "000000" and press OK.
On the main screen, go to MORE.
Then click HDR/1x Selection.
On this screen, select Global then press OK.
The phone will restart and should enable LTE.
Hope this helps.

If Global doesn't work, go thru the process again and try the next 2 settings.
Unfortunately I have tried that and it does not work for me.
@DirtyPISTOLA This is a step you might of missed and has been throughout my thread. (Apn settings need to be applied after eng boot is registered) I implemented these settings through a .bat file in device system/etc folder, but doesn't work for all. So if you apply the eng boot through ODIN...and upon reset... Edit APN settings through mobile networks, being;
Name: APN2 LTE Internet
APN: n.ispsn
MMSC:http://mms.sprintpcs.com
Multimedia message proxy:68.28.31.7
Multimedia message port:80
MCC: 310
MNC: 120
APN type:default,supl,mms,dun,fota
APN Protocol:IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol:IPv4/IPv6
Bearer:LTE
You should be able to run SuperSU .bat file and hopefully that'll fix it. If not it's a firmware issue.
I'm not sure if this works for oreo because I no longer have this device, but these are settings needed for LTE. Like I said idk if Nougat's LTE is different from Oreo's LTE.
Build.prop entries:
ro.characterisitics=Sprint
ro.telephony.default_network=10
ro.cdma.default_numeric=310120
ro.cdma.default_alpha=Sprint
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Sprint
If this doesn't work try SM-G935U firmware with exact settings and steps, but change MNC: to 000.

Awesome thanks for the reply, I just upgraded to a new update that wont let me downgrade because of security policy updates as soon as SamMobile posts the firmware so I can restore if something goes wrong I'll give this a try. Thanks again.
Glad I finally found this thread, which firmware should I be on if I want to root this thing? Thinking of flashing Boot Loader 6 though again not sure.
Hey hey, I need to dig up this ghost here, cause I rooted a Sprint S7 Edge and put a verizon SIM in it, I don't have an active sprint SIM so I can't test it out, but the verizon SIM isn't getting any LTE, it just shows roaming, and no MMS messages can be downloaded. I may or may not have messed with some settings.
So, I can't edit the APN settings it's locked out. How can I either a. unlock the APN settings, or b. get it to recognize LTE networks without doing that. I've tried so many different things I've found on the forums, like nova launcher menu and going into the IOTHidden stuff to get into LTEfunctionality and that's not even there on the phone.
We're running OREO, but I just don't know what the deal is. Any ideas?

I found the solution.. IMS Service issue is related to Message app.. if you choose any other message app as default SMS app the error will stop coming. But I dont want to use the other default messaging app.
Go to the link https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...g-messages/samsung-messages-5-0-11-8-release/ and try downloading 5.0.22.1 version of message app(it works for me you can check another version if it wont get installed). and install as normal APK. once successful installation select again it as Default app. Error will be gone..
Hope this works for you.
Hit Thanks if it works.
Thanks for the solution. Tried the same, but unfortunately, it didn't work. Now the Phone has started to lag and I can't make any calls/SMS through sim1. Although when I switch off Sim 1, the issue gets resolved; but that is making my problem worse. Any suggestions?
Hi I am having the same issue and its related to volte, seems the volte does not gets automatically registered while restarting. This behaviour is common in customs roms. The fix that works for me is to create a new apn with name & apn as ims, protocol as ipv4/ipv6.

did not work for me. please any other solutions ?
Go to settings/ Device management /Reset/ Reset network settings
It worked for me
Just reset network settings
It is all about the default messaging app. I just installed the update and faced the same problem. Came here to see the solution.
What I did is just installed the Messaging app by Google LLC. You can use any messaging app and set as default. done
Go to settings > connections > more connection settings, turn off advanced calling and messaging.
Thank me later
Solution
Nothing to worry, It's bcoz u r using volte net and if u disabled mobile data while usimg wi fi, this problem occour on latest update of s8. U need to enable mobile data and pop up will run away.I faced this and solved thus. Initially I thought to factory reset but waited and pressure my ltl mind to overcome this stupid problem.... Wish you all the best.
