Has anyone else had issues using Foldermount?
I've got a rooted Mojo and I'm trying to save space by moving data to an attached USB flash drive.
The game I tried is Virtua Tennis. I can move the obb data to the external drive (approx 380mb), the files pair and I get the green drawing pin, so I think I'm good to go.However when I try to start the game I get a message saying I need to download 400mb.I dont know what I'm doing wrong.
Does anyone know of a better app than Foldermount, or are there games or apps that cannot be moved?
Loving the Mojo apart from this pain in the arse.
After moving the data and the pin goes green reboot mojo. Them play the game. Easier way to reboot since your rooted is download quick reboot from the play store

Great app, and I second the notion: Reboot the MOJO and your app should work. I have very little on my MOJO anymore...everything is pinned through FolderMount.

This is strange,
I move the files, click the pin to go green then reboot.
After reboot, if I try the game immediately it runs , however after a few moments delay I get a message on the screen that folder mount has kicked in and mounted the pairs with no fail, and from that point it won't work.
When I try to select the game I get the error message that data needs to be downloaded.
I tried it with GTA 3, which involves moving approximately 1.2gb of data to the external drive. When I try to play the game it automatically starts to download all the data from the net again.
I Just don't get it.
I'm using the free version of folder mount, is this wrong?
I've every intention of purchasing the premium version providing it works, but at the moment I can't work out where I'm going wrong.
Thanks for the heads up on the reboot app by the way, very handy
As for moving games to the external drive, and creating the perfect scenario of mega app storage, I'm at a bit of a loss

The path to the drive is /mnt/usbdrive.
I don't believe it will show up however unless it's fat32. ( I may be wrong )
Don't launch the game until you see that folder mount message. Then launch it.

Yea I noticed that. I turned on my MOJO and forgot to wait for the stupid foldermount message to show up, and then all my data was gone.

I deleted all my music, ISOs, and movies, because I was running out of space. After I deleted it all it showed:
Saying 6.48GB (13.2GB-6.72GB) is being used.
There's no way I have 6.5GB worth of stuff on my tablet... so I Ctrl+A, Right Click, Properties:
That shows 471MB... so um... what's going on with the rest of ~6GB?
*EDIT*
Went through settings and checked out the internal storage:
What?
That doesn't match my PC readings at all. And in fact, the math doesn't work either:
1.13 + 1.75 + 6.29 = 9.17GB
13.24GB - 9.17GB = 4.07GB.
Where's that 4.07GB, according to the tablet?

did you download the transformers movie? that uses up about 2gb... to delete i had to go into play movies app, manage space and delete from there

I checked just now, and nope.
I'm aware that the Nexus 7 uses the internal memory for apps as well, but there's no way I have ~6GB worth of apps installed... that must be several thousands of apps (note that app data are installed on the 'SD Card', so it shows up in the /data).
After your, 'CTRL+A' and right click properties how long did you wait to get your value?
Go away for 5mins leaving it running and you will probably find it has changed sum what, you find it does stick for 30secs or so at times.
I had to switch my Nexus off then back on before the storage space updated when id deleted a few things.

I don;t supposed you know what the free space was reported as when you first got your nexus 7 ? If there is something hinky, then it may have been misreporting fr omthe get go.
All I suggest is backup everything you want to keep and then factory reset your Android. Run through config and see what it reports used and free as. If it's still wrong, then return your tablet.
Oh - are you using a custom rom? If so, that could be the cause.

Yeah thats because the MediaStorage (or MediaStore or something like that) service / task takes a while to update sometimes. Waiting normally results in an update, but a reboot will always do the trick.
MTP is pretty buggy. It doesn't show every file or folder that's currently on the device through Windows Explorer. Hoping Google will acknowledge and fix it soon, or even better - bring back USB Mass Storage.
you will also find that windows does not indicate the free space on a drive gained by deleting files until the recycle bin has been emptied, this is because the files arent cleared from the drive until you do this. did you empty the bin before checking the free space?
MTP is buggy.
I recommend downloading ES File Explorer and add ur desktop to local server, and send the files through the network.
also, ESFE has an SD card analyst that can check what's using up ur space.
If you are rooted and have made any Clockworkmod backups, they take up a healthy amount of storage

Deleted movies do not release space, until a reboot. Is there any method to make it release space without a reboot? Now it makes the use very inconvenient. Thanks.
Why can't I see the SD Card contents with a file manager app? It only shows me the internal memory contents.
Am I missing something here? It shows me that I have a 16gb SD Card in there and when I connect my phone to my macBook Air, it only shows me the SD Card contents and not the internal memory.
Something is weird here.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,

I've noticed at times the external storage seems a bit finicky - randomly things happen like dodolom described. Plus, who decided to put designate the path /mnt/external1 ? Quite a few apps have to be redirected to that and don't find it by default.

I have a related question:
Anyone know how to view the internal SD contents when connected to a PC? Given that the M stores photos to the internal storage, I figure it would be nice to pull them off occasionally when connected to a PC. However, when I connect via USB, I see only the SD card.
Thanks.

When it's plugged in, pull the notification bar down and change the usb thing to MTP from Mass Storage (or however it's worded). That should do it.

As of the newest Spotify version (0.5.12.52) the app has a built-in (yet hidden) feature of saving playlists to SD card:
Go to Settings and in the bottom select to "Delete cache and saved data". You will be logged out.
Log in again and go to Settings and set Download/Stream Quality to "Extreme Quality"
Download your playlists and they will be saved to SD card.
Thanks to user nomadjr for the info

The old version of the "hack" which is no longer needed:
Code:
[COLOR="Red"]The old version of the "hack" which is no longer needed:[/COLOR] Found this info on the Spotify forums and thought I'd share it with you guys. It enables Spotify to save your downloaded/offline playlists to your external SD card without using any other apps such as DirectoryBind and Apps2SD and whatever.
Basically you install a previous version of Spotify which supported selecting SD storage (no idea why this feature was removed!) and then upgrading to the latest version while keeping that feature intact.
[LIST]
[*]1. Uninstall Spotify and check that the Spotify folder in sdcard/Android/data has been removed.
[*]2. Install the old version of Spotify from [URL="http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?64njb8peymtkawn"]here[/URL]
[*]3. Start the app and don't log in (if you are logged in auto, log out) and press the menu button and select the SD storage option.
[*]4. Change the standard location to /mnt/extSdCard or /storage/extSdCard and then log in (if it bugs when you log in, just exit the app and try again)
[*]5. Select a single playlist to download/offline play and let it finish downloading before you go to the next step. Don't download all your music here, just a little playlist with a few songs is enough.
[*]6. Go to the Play Store and update the Spotify app to the newest version.
[*]7. Now enable Extreme Quality in the new Spotify app and begin downloading all your play lists :) Provided you did everything correctly, Spotify will now save all offline/downloaded music to the external SD card now until you uninstall the app (unknown if future updates will break this feature)
[/LIST]
Check via your file browser that Spotify is indeed saving to the external SD before downloading your entire collection :p If it's not saving to the SD card, the path to the SD card you typed is probably wrong..check it again.

Worked for my on my S3 with 4.1. Thanks so much for posting this thread; it just opened up 4gb of storage on my phone. The only issue I had was that the app would crash as soon as I opened it, but as long as you set the storage path before it still works.

Try force closing it and try again. Or just reboot and try again. Might take a few tries since the old Spotify probably isn't so compatible with Android 4.1.2

Just tried this by creating a playlist with a couple of songs in it to save on data and I think it has worked lol?
Which folder would the music now be stored in on the ext SD card? Checked in the Internal storage>Android>Data folder and the Spotify folder isn't in there as expected if being stored on extSD, but I can't find it's location on the extSD either
Can confirm this works fine. Had the old apk crash a few times, just kept restarting it and used the force stop in app settings. Now have a lovely 29GB to fill up with some awesome tuneage!
Thanks OP :good:
This is great and all.. BUT
Yes, there is a but ..
I want extreme quality when I sync.
This is not possible on the old spotify-app.
Is this even doable?
Can you update to the newest spotify-app after syncing,
then turn on extreme quality on the newest and get extreme quality on the SD-Card ?

I'll take a look at the file size if possible.
As soon as I updated back to the 'new' version of Spotify, I set the download to 'Extreme Quality' and then downloaded another couple of songs.
Anyone know the average size of Extreme Quality file as compared to a normal or high file?
Not sure how large the "normal" files are, but I think extreme are roughly 10mb's...
Hello xda forums, I want to ask you about moving apps2sd card. By a little research I have found out that moving apps to sd card is a thing. Now I want to do it but I wont seem to be able to get the option "move app to external drive/usb device" or whatever option. I just want to know how to enable it.. A way of not requiring any computers just doing all by my phone would be great..
Also, if you are going to say "oh, why are you moving your apps to sd card" or anything similar like that, please just dont.. say that to google, not me, I don't care, I have lots of big apps and my storage is full...
Thanks...

1) Open Play Store.
2) Search for Folder Mount.
3) Install app.
4) Upgrade to pro.
5) Use it to move large app data to your external SD and create a symlink in the original location.
I realize that you're actually asking about the native apps to sd ”feature,” but I don't think you quite understand what it actually is and is not. It does move apps to your SD, and that is it- only the .apk is moved. The data, which is why those apps and games are so big, remains on your internal. As such, it does not save you any appreciable space. To do that, you're going to have to use a third party app.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Folder mount didn't really help. What I got to do is to move the whole app, the apk of the app, that can be done using system right? I feel like I should be able to enable it somehow.. Any ideas?
(What I need to do is to move the apk that can be reached via Root Browser, theee are many apks with the size between 30-100 mbs, eventually taking up too much space)

Hi,
I am so close to getting this setup how I wanted - it's frustrating...
I have a nexus player - loaded kodi, side loaded NHL network, side loaded Amazon app - all that is working. I attach a 4TB USB drive (formatted fat32) and although ES file explorer can see it and Kodi can use it, I cannot get move to SD working...
I rooted it, I have super user working, I installed stickmount and ran that and tried using folder mount with no luck.
The external drive almost looks like it shows up as 2 drives...
When I unplugged the drive Kodi somehow cannot see it anymore when plugged back into the hub.
I want to be able to load this stuff up because this setup is getting taken to a camper where the only internet will be my phone as a wifi hot spot but I don't want to burn a ton of data - I want to use play later to add to the collection up there by just transferring new files on a USB stick, also use that to sideload any APK's up there.
Right now the unit itself was so full I cannot install anything more so I was looking for an app2sd option like my phone and used the (root, su, stickmount, foldermount way I read in several places).
I had to uninstall things just to install foldermount but if there are menu's on that I cannot access them so I can get to createpair screen and navigate to the place where you would populate destination, but once at that screen - there is no way I can see to save that - just has up (go back)... so I am totally stuck - been at it for hours - about to just take it back and build a small htpc but I really liked the idea of such a small device with the limited space I have at the camper.
I admit I do not have a good understanding of how Android deals with it's file structure and mounting drives / volumes.
Is what I am trying to do possible or am I asking for to much?
I discribed the only way i found that works here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61584727&postcount=158
Without the ability to install on an external location i think the nexus player is worthless.
Almost every good game is almost 2 GB shame on you google ......
8GB for a TV box is way too little without an external SD card !!!
I tried your way numerous times but it doesn't mount the 2nd partition, sometimes it doesn't see the 2nd partition, (intermittent) ...any ideas?
