[Q] Changing the CSC - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently own a SM-N9905 from the Philippines that is currently locked to a carrier.
Baseband: N9005XXUDMJ7
PDA: N9005XXUDMJ7
CSC: N9005OLBDMJ2
1. Can I change the CSC to another region so I can update to 4.4.2?
2. Will Knox 0x0 be tripped if I do so?
3. (a longshot question) If I manage to change the CSC will the phone be unlocked?

You must look here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2666907
And the answer is yes.You will trip knox for changing CSC you need root.Root will trip knox.

To try about CSC's, I have flashed the Singapore XSP but it have the XTC from Philippines by default. May be a Samsung error.
If You flash this Rom by Odin3 v3.09 You stay whit Your XTC, not need change CSC. And the flag continue 0x0.
When we say phone locked or unlocked is only about Sim card from Your carrier. You can't use the Sim from another carrier. Like my Note3 is locked to TMN. But I and You can flash what we want, Rom's, Bootloaders, Modem,s, CSC's, etc.
Make Full wipe data + cache on recovery. If You not have one customer recovery (that trip the flag to 0x1) You make this whit stock recovery, but in this case Your internal Sdcard must be wiped also. Save it to External or to Pc before.
Flash this Rom is HERE.
Singapore XSP (but XTC by default) => XXUENB4_ OLBENA3_XXUENB1
OLB = Multi-CSC 10 csc's on Post #5 from that thread.
PS: In this case You not need the link from post before.

Mine is SMA. Can I flash XXUENB4_ OLBENA3_XXUENB1 via Odin directly and Knox will remain 0x0?

Change CSC

Hi,
What is the benifit/process if you what to change this?
Currently mine says H3G

What IS the csc?

CSC is Customer Specific Changes. its a set of bits to show the phone is for arguments an 3 device. this upsets kies when we debrand due to it not having a BTU firmware but having the H3G csc flag
H3G is branded with apps, boot logo and other crap by Three (UK). Benefit of getting BTU (UK unbranded) is because updates mostly come first there and there is no branding. DBT (Germany Unbranded) is great too. You can change CSC by flashing specific firmware with ODIN and wipe data and cache.

If you don't have the BTU UK firmware then there is no point changing CSC as there will still be a discrepancy with the software and the CSC - and this can sometimes lead to unforeseen headaches.
If you don't want to wipe / don't do anything.
If you want to flash and change your CSC download the latest rom from Sammobile but you will wipe everything.
You can backup with KIES first - wipe your device with the new rom - and then restore your settings and apps from Kies.
Oh and if you are thinking of changing CSC and flashing, make sure your phone is unlocked from the network first.....
Hi, I hope I am not hijacking the thread but I have similar questions. My SM-N9005 is from Hungary:
Product Code: XEH
PDA: N9005XXUBMJ3
CSC: N9005OXXBMJ3
MODEM: N9005XXUBMJ2
and I want to switch to the official stock Hong Kong Official firmware (not rooted):
Product Code: TGY
PDA: N9005ZHUDMK1
CSC: N9005ZZHDMK1
MODEM: N9005ZHUDMJ9
I know I need to use Odin to flash and my phone data will be wiped. A few questions:
1) I intent to download the latest firmware from sammobile.com. Does it contain all the necessary files?
2) After flashing will my phone behave like it's bought from Hong Kong?
3) Do I still get OTA update? Can I just automatically update directly from OTA or must I use Odin in future?
4) Will KNOX be tripped?
5) Will this report system as custom and display an unlocked lock on the initial boot screen?
6) Can I flash to a lower/older rom version (like Product Code: XSP, PDA: N9005XXUBMJ1, CSC: N9005OLBBMI3, MODEM: N9005XXUBMJ1) or must it be newer?
7) Can I reflash it back to Hungary (XEH) version or is this a 1-way trip?
8) Lastly the Hong Kong N9005 is 16GB whereas mine is 32GB... will that be a problem?
Thanks in advance for helping this noob!
I change on mi7 from dtm to dbt, no wipe just flahed same version of FW other csc
If its in same multicsc region(europe) no wipe is required

Hi Killberty, thx for quick reply. 3 more questions:
1) My CSC N9005OXXBMJ3 corresponded to: France, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Spain, Hungary, Portugal (TPH) & Greece. Does it mean that I can only use stock rom from these countries or from any other EU countries?
2) How about stock BTU CSC: N9005OXADMJ4 (from UK)? Also not possible?
3) Is your flash counter increased after flashing?
Thanks again.

Hi Killberty, thanks for your help so far. I will probably flash to UK (BTU) or France (XEF) in this case.
One more issue: When I bought my Note 3 it was already unlocked (even though there was a sealed warning sticker on the brand new box stating the phone was for European region). I activated it in Indonesia using a Singapore SIM card under roaming condition and now using local Indonesia SIM. Have also tried China, UK, Thai sim card under roaming and no pop-up asking for PIN code to unlock region lock.
So now if I flash to UK or France region will I encounter this region lock and can I unlock using a "3" UK sim card under roaming condition?
Thanks again!

To flash cross regional fimrware you need to change you CSC code.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2491877
Also if you flash MJ3 build then your bootloader will be upgraded and you have to stay will MJ3 firmware, you cant then downgrade back to MJ1 firmware

I want to know this as well. I have Malaysian fw on my phone but I want to switch to BTU. According to what I have read this should work because my current region is XX, however I have seen way too many people getting this ext4 error for me to try it.

CSC code for UK (no carrier) = BTU.
Revision of Android - MJ7, latest version released as of yet...
Not sure about the rest but it appears regional...
Flashed it after running through RDLV but had issues with WIFI and sd card... Flashed extracted modem from MJ6 rom, this sent me into a bootloop. Flashed stock MJ6 rom onto phone and fixed the bootloop but put new bootloaders on. At this point warranty void was 0x0. Tried Kingoapp to root hoping it wouldn't trip counter, it did...

Make sure you take a backup via Kies if you need personal files
Download the respective stock ROMS from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com or see thread on Stock Roms on XDA
Extract zip to get tar.md5
Put device into download mode (Vol down+ Home + Power) and Flash using Odin (PDA option)
Wait till device reboots back into Android after completing the flash and recovery
Once device reboots, do a Factory Reset via back up and reset option
Once device reboots after Factory Reset/recovery, enter the google account info and restore settings and then turn off the device
and restart (go into recovery and see the csc btu being applied if yes then stop here,do factory reset and restart)
after this the next steps are optional
Boot device back into download mode (Vol down+ Home + Power)
Re-flash the same downloaded firmware for a second time via Odin
Once the device reboots after the 2nd flash, your CSC should have changed to the CSC of the ROM you downloaded, and Kies also should show that CSC has changed and it should allow future updates via Kies or OTA
check csc by going to stock recoverry it will show manual mode at the bottom and then show btu csc applied
i am now on xxumdj6

[Q] N9005 Trying to flash to other region firmware failed and bricked

Dear Friends,
I'm using N9005 on this N9005XXUBMJ1 firmware and trying to flash to the newer firmware from other region N9005ZHUDMJ8.
However, I've been getting an error "ext4 img" in ODIN and now my phone cannot boot and stuck on the download mode. So I decided to flash it back to its previous version N9005XXUBMJ1 but still not success and stuck on the same loop.
I have tried doing the emergency recovery from KIES, but having another error "[about] Fused 2 > Binary 1" (on the following screenshot)
Can anybody help me on this problem? I really like the phone and I really need it back.
Thank you
I just solved the problem by myself, it seems that there is a problem with the bootloader on the MJ8 version or something, so I use the MJ6 BTU firmware instead and it works. phewww
Having the same problem...which firmware is MJ6 BTU?
TIA

I think MJ8 is from Hongkong 16GB Model.
Either way the knox warranty void has been triggered. You also have the new bootloader meaning recovery through Kies won't work until your country gets the new bootloader stock.. You are essentially stuck using another countries rom now until your coutry/carrier upgrades their firmware with the new bootloader...
Forget Kies recovery working if things go wrong...

It should be possible, but might fail, so in any case make sure you download both the latest Hong Kong firmware (MK1) and the MJ7 BTU firmware just in case it fails you can flash MK1 on top and your device supposed to work fine.

changing csc without rooting

I just bought a note 3 for my dad but it came with UAE csc (United arab emirates) and nd2 software build. Is there anyway to change the csc to btu or dbt safely, without rooting? It's not necessarily a must since he is not an avid technology user and probably wouldn't notice anything different anyway, it's mostly for my own peace of mind.

No Its not possible without rooting just cf auto root easiest root for note 3
sure you can. you just need to load the BTU firmware via odin. no root is needed.
and if you want to root, just you towelroot. it will not trip your knox.

[Q][I9505] CSC changed itself

hi guys. anyone experienced the same. here's what happened:
i was using i9505 glb kitkat (csc=glb=globe philippines). i flashed clockworkmod, then install carbon rom.
last month, i re-flash my original glb kitkat. then went to recovery. i noticed that the csc changed to sin (singapore singtel) without doing anything.
now my problem is what rom should i use next time i update to lollipop: glb or sin.
pls help and many thanks.
Is your phone SIM unlocked? If it is, it doesn't matter which CSC you use. Otherwise, stay with CSC GLB.
No. I used regionlockaway to make it sim unlocked.
Then as mentioned, the CSC doesn't matter. Case in point is my I9505. Originally an O2 phone, when I purchased it the S4 was already unlocked and had Ukranian firmware on it. When I installed the Black Edition UK firmware (CSC BTU) after repairing my S4's SIM tray and again removing the SIM lock, I ended up with CSC AUT (Switzerland) instead.
On an open firmware such as CSC BTU, there are actually multiple CSCs within the firmware, and all the CSC does is customize the firmware to the needs of a specific region. In the case of AUT, the firmware installed three Swiss-specific apps that could be easily removed. BTU and the other CSCs essentially do the same thing, and I am guessing this is without modifying the firmware itself.
Ok. Thanks guys. I'll still use glb firmware once lollipop is released. I had once semi-bricked my s4 (got repaired at samsung center) so i'm kinda nervous this time.
