I just received this Galaxy Note and noticed that on youtube video playback, the HQ playback on various vids look grainy and somewhat pixelated. My friend has a Nexus and the same playback looks really clear. I've always heard great things about the Note's screen so I'm really surprised and disappointed. This is noticeable on different brightness levels. Can anyone suggest what I can do to determine if my screen has issues or if there is some setting I have to tweak?
You need to update your YouTube app as the default doesn't use hd, just hq. Also HD only works over wifi.

Thanks bud, updating the app worked.
HQ=480p. Obviously when you compare it to true HD, the HD will look better...

I hope you don't have the black clipping issue that is widespread on dark videos. By your're description of pixellation, it sounds like you might... :-(

I just got my note and it's showing the black clipping issues that are described here.... should I return my not and try to get one that doesn't have this issue?

As soon as you can, yes. Some units play almost unwatchable videos. Better units r out there

hmm.. This kinda reminds me of the Samsung screen lottery from a couple years ago lol... I'm going to do an exchange and see what happens

I decide to do same tests of Galaxy Note camera speed.
Why? Because of my wife's Galaxy Nexus. Nexus camera works awesome it is so fast. I think my video can be interested for some people.

I really wish there was something that could be done with the speed of the note camera too. Guess Ill have to wait and see how the Note 2's camera pans out and decide from there

Hardware issue, the nexus can do zero shutter lag, means take photo to photo, u only need zero second, but note's hardware didnt that good, zero shuuter lag is one of selling point on nexus when it release

I was using the nexus before swapping over to the note and I can vouch that the camera speed on the nexus is very fast. Now if only the note had this feature
I have also had the opportunity to test out the camera on the S3 and the features are awesome.

So the problem is in CPU? BUT you allways can save picture in your RAM and then in ROM. as it saves Fast Burst Camera N7000 has 1000Mb of RAM you can take a lot of picture before it run out.
Wasnt Note released after the Gnex? Shouldnt the Note have had a zero shutter lag camera too..
Nexus was released November 17, 2011
The Galaxy Note was announced by Samsung during IFA 2011 in Berlin
Camera should work correct.

I guess the One X has 'zero shutter lag', my gf has it and it's scary quick at taking photos.
The Notes camera is fine for me but I suppose it depends on what your taking pictures of.

This. I take my One X whenever I go to an amusement park or some event where I need to snap super quick pictures of my kids.
I find that my Note with JB Camera+ takes better quality pictures, but the One X beats it hands down for speed.
I was using Gnote for almost an year and recently got nexus 7.
I have nexus 7 with me most of the time and seems that I have almost cut down 80% of using Gnote .
I wish samsung came out with a note 7 inch with phone capability...
This would a perfect device for me...
Anyone in the same boat ???
Since the announce of Note 10.1 i'm scouting the internet to find any rumors on Galaxy Note 7.7 (7.7 rather than 7).
I will almost certainly by a Note device with this screen size (and body - it should be narrowed down coparing to Tab 7.7).
So, YES

Do you use your nexus 7 out of your home?? Can you carry it in your pocket?? For me that's the point.
At home, you are right, nexus 7 would be better.

Me neither... the borderline on my part personally would be 6"... any phone or phablet more than that.. is an overkill already for a phone... a tablet.. okay but a phone and a tablet.. that's ridiculous already!
Yes. I currently own a 7.7 LTE and this thing is awesome.

Actually I bought a tab 7+ awesome piece of hardware.. Phone calls able and everything tried it as daily phone and its just too big..

In a heartbeat. I have the 10.1 tablet and it is just too big to tote around. It's a real sweet tablet. I have always liked the 7 inch size and still reach for my old HTC Evo View first. I would sell my Note phone and also the 10.1 and use an old flip phone for calls.
I used the original galaxy tab for about a month as my main phone due to losing mine at the time. I found it to be usable in most situations. It was actually pocket able even in skinny jeans (at a push). I rarely call so that helped. However a 6" device would be REALLY awesome. I'd get one of them!

For the information of all-Samsung was the first to introduce the Galaxy Tab 7 inch with phone capabilities. I had one and it was simply too big for a phone. The tab 7+ model is still available with features of the note.

Galaxy Note @ mobile
Size bigger than 5.5 inch is difficult to handle as phone
So note 2 will be fine for me.

Lol.. Was awkward... Had to have my hand wide open to be able to put it in my ear and talk.. After some minutes gets heavy.. And it's a pain in the ass to clean the screen every time you finish a conversation because the screen its all over your face..

I would buy a 6" Galaxy Note without blinking an eye.
I was hoping when the Note 2 was announced that it would be 6", but alas!
I'm not sure but I am guessing 6 is the top of normal portability.

I would love to but as it is I have difficulty typing one handed on the 5.3.
Give me a 7" Note with edge-to-edge AMOLED (so smaller than current 7" tablets) + a newer and more powerful Mali/Adreno GPU and i'd kill for it
Yes, but only with phone bezel.
If they put tablet bezel of 2cm, I don't want it.
What can I expect UI wise? I really like the clean look of the Galaxy Nexus UI especially the people app. Can I expect the same on Note 2? Also, how's the smoothness? I've used GS III and wasn't happy with the choppy UI.

Note 2 hasn't been released yet. You probably know more about the phone than anybody else at this point......
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
To be honest you can expect around the same UI and performance as the GSIII. The GSIII serves as a good reference point for the Note II though there would probably be small differences to accomodate the massive arse screen lol. Although it may perform a tad better simply due to the raw horsepower however it still probably won't be quite as smooth or cohesive as the Nexus.
Yes it will be smoother than the S3 and that's because of jellybeans project butter. it somewhat forces the UI to stick at 60fps at all times.
Several ads are claiming 0 shutter lag on the note 3, yet say it's the same camera as in the s4.
My s4 lags (like my s2 did). S3 strangley had no lag.
Can anyone confirm?
I've read a couple reports saying the s800 might be using a Samsung sensor and the exynos is probably using the same Sony sensor in gs4. Hasn't been proven but evidence has been given, just not confirmed yet.
Any lucky people got one now and can confirm?

So, if you take a single shot it's instantaneous, unlike the s4?
Good news if so, I guess they do use a different Sensor in the N3.

Have you played with an s4? Just wondering how it compares. I'm tempted by the note for a few reasons, the 32gb internal storage, the 3 gig ram, the s800, oh and the camera without lag
Might give my wife the s4 and get one

This S4 camera lag thing has been driving me insane for the longest time.
I've got both the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3 ( octa versions ) and can confirm that there is no lag on the Note 3 like with the S4 camera,( takes 2 to 5 to 8 seconds to load sometimes ) and yes strangely the S3 doesn't have any lag either.
the Note 3 is BLAZING, even with all of the Sammy bloatware on it. :good:
Wish my S4 camera could run like this.(am using Perseus kernel , seems to have made the cam snappier on the S4 , will update after more testing )
Cheers.
From what I read when the s4 (i9505) was launched, the lag is due to a hardware design, something to do with the sensor/shutter speed. I don't think software could fix this or surely samsung would have by now.

Don't know about the I9505 but with the I9500 it seems to be a memory management issue( wrt how long the camera app takes to load after you hit the icon). If I clear the ram before launching the camera it opens up almost instantly. ( but we digress )

Ahh I think we are talking about 2 different issues. The lag I refer to is when you hit the take picture button. It's out of sync with the 'click' sound. The image on your screen changes by the time the picture has been taken. I seem to still get the actual picture I took in the end but it really bugs. The S3 and note 3 don't do it, S1,S2&S4 all do. I don't know if the note 1&2 do it too.
