yes just rename framework-res.apk to framework-zip
extract it with a zip app like zarchiver
replace the pngs and only pngs on a like for like basis - same filenames - dont touch xml files or anything else
rezip
change back to .apk
put and a flashable zip and flash in cwm with system mounted or push to system with rw-r-r but flashing is better

Is there a way to choose/make/browse themes [FULL] only for incoming call screens? Especially for Samsung Galaxy Y, the stock answering call is really bad.
Is it possible to download / theme the incoming call screen via Metamorph? And where to find such themes for Samsung Galaxy Y?
I already know about some third-party apps on Play store such as Ultimate Call Screen HD, but they don't do what I need.
p.s. I'm NOT looking either for ROMs with different incoming call screens (I'm here for a simple way to theme the incoming call screens for android)

there are many xml files and png images, I'm looking for the images that targets "specifically" the incoming call screen items such as the background, frames, sliders. What are the png/xml file names to tweak those specific things

Anyway, I found many Phone.apk online for different ROMs and different Android devices. Is it OK if I used any for my Galaxy Y?
I think ya, coz some of my system app is from custom rom n I am using stock rom just give it a try, is it work or not. N do a backup before changing the app

I downloaded several Phone.apk(s) from the net, but every time I try to install one it asks me that "this is a system app, do you want to replace" and say yes but then it says (Application not installed)
What could be wrong? and how to fix it?
I think you should flash via cwm. Well, i am a beginner but even i changed my default one. But pls confirm with senior members. I think you have to flash it

Yes I agree with koradiavatsal, u should flash through cwm, or try this, copy the file (Phone.apk) to /system n set permission to rw-r--r-- n then move n replace it to /system/app, then reboot. If this not succesfull the one way is flash it through cwm

Download the zip I attached
now open command window where the files you downloaded is.
now to load framework first put the 3 frameworks in the folder with the file you downloaded.
dont type the one in the parenthesis because that's a comment.
type this in cm
apktool if framework-res.apk (type it exactly)
apktool if twframework-res.apk
apktool if hyperion-res.apk
type them one by one. that's how you do it.
Press the thanks button please if i helped
Re: decompile settings.apk
In your Username/.apktool folder, paste twframework res. Apk and rename it as 2.apk.

I want to port the lidroid toggles from Simplicity to USSRv7. How would I do this? I have the lidroid res, system ui, and framework res apks.
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Change the file extension of lidriod-res.apk to zip
Unzip lidriod-res.zip
goto res/drawable-hdpi
Copy the toggles pngs only
Past them to your unzipped res/drawable-hdpi
zip back up and change extention back to apk
put in flashable zip and flash with system mounted
I just replaced my lidroidres.apk with the one from the ROM I wanted and it worked! Thanks though

Yes just replace lidroid-res.apk to change toggles if your rom uses lidriod in its ui
Any problems just unzip the lidroid-res.apk of the toggles you want & past them into one from your rom
Whenever i edit and modify any app(icon, wallpaper etc) by decompiling/extracting it and again recompile it(by zipping and changing extension to apk) i cannot install it directly via package installer it can only be installed through system app installer and if I try to convert it to a user app using link2sd it gives a failure error. How to install this kind of app as user and not in system quota

it probably was a system app to begin with and as such in its manifeset is set to only be installed as a system app
you would need to edit the manifest and re-sign the apk
Did you sign the file after recompiling?

did you sign it with the test key for normal app or platform key for system app?
if it still wont install there is something wrong in its manifest or only has armv7 libs and is not meant for armv6 devices or you have to remove the old version first

First I would recommend you to use apktool/ apk multitool/ Virtuous Ten Studio / apk manager for decompile and recompile.
Don't bother with signing
Install 7zip.
Open new recompiled apk in 7zip. Right click apk ----> 7zip----> open archive.
Do the same with old apk.
Drag META-INF Folder from old to new apk. Press yes and you have installable apk. This works for both System and other apps.
I always use it. No failures yet.

i have a N9005 with stock latest rom which is NE4. i am rooted. i tooked secmms.apk and secmms.odex from /system/priv-app and actually decompiled it using apktool for Android itself. i edited the mmsconfig.smali file for certain mods.
the question now is, how do i actually recompile it back? i have secmms_src and secmms_odex folders. how do i recompile it back to odex format for my odex stock rom?
thanks with regards.

Ya but how to make it to odex?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
This may help you but make a back up first.
Find a deodex SecMms.apk and modify it as you need.
Then rename it to Modded_SecMms.apk and put it in system\priv-app or wherever it belongs to, do not remove original one (SecMms.apk, SecMms.odex)
Flash Universal Odex Script
Then odex your file see how to do it in that thread
Remove original non-modded one from system folder with its correcsponding odex file
Rename your modded file to its original pack name SecMms.apk (you shoud find both Modded_SecMms.apk and Modded_SecMms.odex)
Check permission to rw,r,r
Reboot
I guess this is the only possible way.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SystemCleanup.Inteks.org
(After its done you may need to set the permission on the SecMms.odex manually.)
