So I've got a rooted, unlocked i9505 on XXUEMKF running 4.3 but I can't get OTA updates because I get the "your device has been modified" pop-up. My question is how can I restore everything to complete factory settings so that it'll allow me OTA updates, remove my root access and run complete stock firmware and the like, I'd also like it to restore my warranty. I've read a few things and they all seem to state that I need to install a stock Samsung ROM, but I always thought that's what I've been running as I haven't flashed any ROMs, all I've done is root the device. It says that my device status is 'custom' but I'd like that to switch to normal too.
Anyone push me in the right direction?
How did you root your device?
If you have the superuser app, go to it's settings, scroll down and you will see an option for totally unroot. Try this and if the Ota still not works, make a factory reset. Otherwise you have to Odin flash the stock Samsung firmware.
Maybe this guide helps:

I'll give it a go now.
So now I have a stock 4.3 UK ROM official from Samsung, when trying to update from the About Device menu it tells me that I'm on the latest firmware... Has my warranty returned? My Knox counter does shoe 0x1 however, is it impossible to reset? I've tried Triangle Away. I want to send this phone in for a replacement from an authorised Samsung seller, but they're asking me for proof from Samsung that my phone isn't rooted. Where do I go from here?

Hey there
Will using TriangleAway to reset the counter and flashing to stock with ODIN definitely mean that service people will not be able to tell the phone has been modified at all?
Its possible there's a hidden counter but what we can't see we can't guard about...
I would also suggest to hard reset(factory reset in options) completely to reset all statuses..

If you simply boot in to "Download mode" the phone will show if you have an official or custom binary.... there is no counter...just says custom or official. ..so just do a firmware flash via odin and then a hard reset (optional) ... then check your binary via download mode...I'm sure it'll be reset to official
Good luck hope this helped
Imgoing to test it
Thanks Bro....
:good::good::good::good:
Also in settings go to About>Status and at the bottom it will show either "Official" or "Custom"... This is the bugger that's hard to change...

Im pretty sure there is a counter, It shows up in the triangleaway app
You have to do it this way.
1. Make sure you have a stock Samsung kernel and recovery (triangle away needs it to work on the s4).
- It may be easiest to flash stock firmware and then root again.
2. Once you have stock kernel and recovery and are rooted you can run triangle away. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully as it's a different procedure from older devices.
3. Flash stock firmware that your phone came with. I've discovered the hard way that Samsung service centres match the serial number to the firmware version as another means of checking for software modification.
4. Factory reset.
If you've done everything correctly you'll have official binary/status normal in download mode.
I've done this procedure myself and can confirm it's 100% working.

hi all, as you can tell, im a noob well, I have a samsung galaxy s4 gti9505 that I rooted with odin WHEN I had a pc, and it just so happens, whenever I root an android, it works but then things start to go wrong like lagging, freezing, drainage of the battery really fast ect. So this time I decided to google how to unroot my phone without a pc to fix my problem. I did that using super su or something which had the unroot option witch I did successfully. But just a few moments ago, I was just checking to see if there were any updates available for my phone because my camera decided to stop working, (well the camera works but when trying to record, a pop-up box appears saying camera failed). So when I tried to update, it said that I cant update because my phone is modified, now as stated above, I am a noob to this subject so please be patient with me trying to comprehend the technical terms use will use hahaha. Can someone please explain to me if it is possible to change the status from custom to normal without the help of a computer? Thanks in advance
help meeh please
Can anyone help?
I don't understand why you want to return back to stock without computer/laptop. In any case following instruction will help you to return your S4 back to stock:
1.First you need to download official firmware for your region from this site: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
2. Second upload it to phone with Odin http://www.andromint.com/download-odin-latest-version/
If needed you can also use Triangle away to reset custom flash count.
That's all...
.
Dear all,
I have a similar question.
I've rooted my i9500. I wonder is there any way to roll back my phone like Triangel Away etc. I mean in case of any guarantee situation.
As far as understand, as of now no way to reset.
I hope someone can find a way to reset everyhing to get warranty back.

You don't need to un-root before flash ... you will for sure lose root anyway

Is there any way i can download at more than 200KB's?
http://puu.sh/4YTbL.png
Cause the captcha for the rom download on the link says it's wrong even when i type it right..
I must do something wrong here, because it's not working for me.
I followed the instructions and device still says it is modified and it will not check for updates from samsung.
What is my next step?
Procedure so far:
Gained root acces with ODIN
I did not flash a custom rom.
Used Triangle away to reset counter (counter checked 0 afterwards)
Flashed Galaxy stock firmware downloaded from internet (PHN-I9505XXUDMHB-20130922121848.zip unpacked this once) with ODIN
Furthermore, regarding KNOX reading:
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0X0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0X1
(I suppose the latter means Samsung still is able to see I did something)
Would a hard reset solve this issue do you think?
Hi guys,
So I have to send my phone away for a repair under warranty with the provider (O2) tomorrow, however, when I unrooted and re-flashed the stock ROM, I forgot to use TriangleAway to reset or even check my hidden flash counter.
My phone had updated to 4.3 before I realised, and now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can flash the Root file onto my phone using Odin to allow me to use TriangleAway, but by doing so I am risking voiding my KNOX Warranty. As we know this is irreversible, but then leaving my flash counter at something other than 0, I'm risking my warranty being made void anyway.
I mean, my counter could be 0 anyway, but I doubt it with the several ROMs I flashed to it, including three CyanogenMod ROMs and a GPE ROM.
What do I do? And more importantly, how do I do it to avoid voiding my KNOX Warranty status?
Thanks guys!

Sorry if I wasn't clear, my current status is "KNOX Warranty Void: 0x0". I want to root my phone to run triangle away to reset the flash counter, and then unroot it, all without changing this to 0x1.
Any ideas?

Thank you, I will try that. Do you know if my device status will change to custom by rooting and will TriangleAway change it back to Official?
I did everything you said and it worked perfectly. My phone had a counter of 0 so it was all in vain, but at least I know now. I got my system status back to Official, counter is 0, KNOX is untouched. I just can't update OTA, but that's no problem as long as it looks unmodified ready for it to be sent off for repair under warranty tomorrow. Thanks man!
use xposerd framework and wanam framework to change status to oficjall. this method work and you can check ota updates

Samsung are at least a month away from pushing the update Over The Air (OTA), you have to flash it with Odin. It doesn't matter if it says Custom, if you rooted it with Chainfire's autoroot, your warranty is void, anyway.

Odin doesn't care about the system status. What matters is that you need the drivers, the firmware, and most importantly - your phone must be SM-N9005.
And what the **** do you mean "highlighted in Odin"?
In Odin you load the files as designated in the tutorial (without the .pit file, you don't need it), only "F. Reset Time" and "Auto Reboot" must be ticked, your phone in Download mode, you hit Start, and wait about 10-15 minutes.
Your phone will boot and you'll want to gouge your eyes out with all this f***ing white all over the UI, it's disgusting.
What's more disgusting is that despite the hideous UI color scheme, Samsung made the battery life better.
And yet again: once your warranty is void, it doesn't really matter what your system status is, especially if you intend to root and flash things.
Like, really.
Stop mentioning the system status.
It doesn't matter.
Recently had my s7 edge rooted with the guide that says root and knox still good.
Just used the part of the guide where it says unroot I'm back on stock firmware but now I can't take an Ota it fails and I can't use samsung pay. I was wondering if I did something wrong or there is a step in missed and need to do ?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
You have to Odin a stock firmware.
That's what I did
What does Settings - About phone - Status - "Phone status" say? It should say "Official".
Also booting to Download Mode (phone off, hold Power/Vol Down/Home at same time, then press Vol Up when prompted) to confirm that "System Status" should read "Samsung Official" or "Official".
You can also install this app, KNOX Status Samsung, and it'll tell you your Knox Status.
If Knox is not valid, you will not be able to use Samsung Pay, and once Knox is tripped, there is no undoing that.
Only reason I can't be on root either is because even with all the power saving functions I've had enabled through root, it didn't have as good battery saving as stock unrooted.
But yeah, try to make sure you didn't do something to trip KNOX.
Yeah that's the odd thing I downloaded the knox checker and it says the warranty is valid

I'm not seeing anything in the Verizon Root Guide w/ Knox Good where it says anything about unrooting, so I assume you flashed the official phone firmware via ODIN? What version firmware did you flash? Did you get the stock firmware files from this thread here?

Does your baseband version match your build number? You only need to look at the last 3 digits. If they don't match then you flashed the wrong update file onto your phone.

Here you go this might work I found this on the regular s7 forum........
For those of you who want to go back to stock and are having trouble with any updates i have found a fix.
(only do this if u want to go 100% back to stock and want to update to current software and future updated software. If u want to stay on PG2 software and never update, then ignore this post)
In the instructions on how to flash back to stock, the OP only included 3 files u had to flash using Odin (AP, CP and CSC). follow those steps up to the point where everything is flashed back to stock and your phone has rebooted to home screen. After that, power off your phone and restart to download screen (hold home, power button and volume down at same time)
once u are booted to the download mode screen, open odin and select BL and find the BL file that came with your stock folder. Once its loaded, hit start and let Odin flash it. Your phone will reboot and you will be able to update your phone to any new software released.
I had a problem trying to update to PG1 after reflashing to stock. My update would crash at 32%. This will fix that issue.
