FIRST
A big thank you to zulu99 dev of Droid mote
Now you can use full shield controller as 360 controller and stream games. use fullscreenizer to make them fullscreen if needed (somtimes splashtop THD wont allow fullscreen and game is windowed)
DO NOT USE SPLASHTOP REMOTE DESKTOP 2. USE SPLASHTOP THD ONLY FOR PROPER PERFORMANCE.
Run your games & splashtop thd only at 720p. otherwise they are unplayable in most cases.
I made this video for proof that thd streamer with the shield streams faster with no compression artifcats and now works with shield controls thanks to droidmote.

Steps
DONT. use splashtop remote. Splastop THD is the one you want.
1.Once you get the apk and install (you must find this on your own, google splashtop thd gamepad apk). install the splashtop server on your pc from their website.
2.droid mote, install from play store its the free one. Download the rar file from links provided. follow the readme in it to install the driver on your pc.
http://www.videomap.it/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2
3.follow the video tutorials provided on the video below to configure controls and run droid mote server.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubz_hJldAM4
NOTE ON UNINSTALL: if you decide you dont want to use this method make sure you delete x360ce.ini and xinput3_1.dll from any game folders that have used and you will be fine.
Aditional notes:
1)In your droid mote app hold the keyboard icon its on the top right, then change input to droidmote.(if input option doesnt show, go to your phones input settings and check droidemote and try again)
2) You must then hold the middle icon and connect to the droid mote server running on your pc, click search, connect to the shown ip (makes sure droidmote.bat server is running on your pc as a cmd prompt)
3) Once you see the cmd prompt show connected, you can run x360ce to configure your controls. In x360ce make sure you load logitech rumble pad 2 preset, and click load.
after you have made sure your controls are working properly, save config and close x360ce. (triggers must be mapped manually as Halfaxis->Half4 & Half5)
4)place x360ce.ini and xinput3_1.dll on the games exe folder. The x360ce.ini file and xinput3_1.dll are your controller config file which tells the game to use your controller. (note xinput3_1.dll may need to be renamed depending on the game you are playing you can google the correct name for the game. on skyrim you dont need to rename)
EDIT: triggers must be mapped as Half axis-> Half4 & Half5

Now that the nvidia shield was updated to android 4.3, you can play ALL windows games with the normal free Splashtop 2 Remote Desktop + DroidMote (client free and server for windows free)
Like in this video but with the controller of your shield:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTDCMRbg2Lc
If you want simulate an xbox 360 controller in your game look this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubz_hJldAM4
Is simple, connect the droidmote client to the droidmote server for windows, enable the droidmoteime, put droidmote client in background, open splashtop and play with your game.
you can download droidmote server for windows in the droidmote support forum after registration. this is the link of the server download http://www.videomap.it/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2

1. you need Root explorer
2 in the system/usr/keylayout/generic.kbl changed GAS & BRAKE in the generic joystick section to LTRIGGER and RTRIGGER
3 you need to set the permission to read and write for the system folder and the following folders too. Same goes for the generic.kbl file. MAKE SURE ALL FILES ARE RETURNED TO THEIR DEFUALT PERMISSION AFTER EDITING.
Awesome, really well done ! I not have a Nvidia Shield, i use standard external controllers with my android devices, but your gameplay are very functional and attractive.
I have nvidia shield but dont have the pc spec that shield require.
Because i am newbie and can someone please post it step by step how to setup Splashtop 2 Remote Desktop + DroidMote or maybe can create a video to show how o setup so that i can play my pc games on my shield?

This confuses the hell out of me...You say don't use Splashtop Remote but in the OP you said use Splashtop Remote 2 .... ???? Did Splashtop Remote 2 NOT work originally and we had to use the THD version and with the newer update THD is NOT required?
EDIT: Just FYI on Windows 8.1 I had to right click x360ce.exe and Run As Administrator because it wasn't loading properly. Am I retarded because I can't figure out how to open Splashtop and keep DroidMote operational so I can play a game properly It looks like you just copy those files from the X360 emulator to the game you want to play.
Ok...I think it comes down to changing your keyboard to the droidmoteIME but that doesn't seem to help either. >_<
Ah...Finally. There's an option to change default keyboard that you have to do in Settings for some reason...IN ANY CASE it's finally doing something. Now I just need to figure out why the "A" button is bringing up the steam menu and the "Y" button is acting as "B" button and the "X" is acting as the "A"

1) the reason I say dont use splashtop remote is because its laggy and useless for gaming ( many people assume splashtop remote and splashtop THD are the same things, they are not.)

Note: if your having problems loading x360ce in windows 8 (i did) download the newer version of dll's from here and place it with your x360ce.exe
https://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/detail?name=x360ce_lib32_r789_VS2010.zip&can=2&q=
if you have any error such on config not found etc, just go into the x360ce.ini in the same folder and under
options type Version=1
Funny thing is right before you posted this I said F it and installed THD...WOW...HUGE improvement! Not even sure I needed to buy a new router as it was running the same with the new router as the old one. (Bought an ASUS RT-AC66U new in box for $110) But hey...It's working...
There's still this issue with AC3 though the buttons are weirdly reversed it's not acting like a 360 controller...Need to mess with that more later. Half the fun is figuring all this stuff out
Could you post some tutorials when you get this working? I am avoiding the update because it breaks my mobile GPU streaming. I like the Nvidia interface because, for me, it just works. Something like this seems to be a bit more work but if it works just as well i might bit the bullet and upgrade and stream this way. The one issue is I wondering how it works and how much work it is every time you want to stream something.
It would take me forever to write a tutorial. Basically what he said is accurate. I don't understand WHY you need to copy the x360ce files to the game's directory, but you do, and it DOES work! There's some issue specifically with AC3 with button mapping. Not sure what it is, Borderlands 2 works perfect. Here's a YT vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22bUM3LUx9Y

actually it only looks like a lot of work, its a very simple process and the benefit is you can stream anything. infact your entire desktop is yours, you dont need steam or gfe or are forced to use nvidia's locked graphics setting. At this point the latest update breaks streaming with compression and artifacts on some if not most games (you can read their forum), Im sure at some point they will reach splashtop thds level of clarity until then this is a better solution.
if the steps I provided in the posts confuse you in any way please let me know and I wil try my best to clarify.

I dint notice audio lag in gaming, I did notice it in some movies. are you on 4.3? 4.2 did have some audio lag. By the way nice vid!! much clearer than mine, can i put it in my original post?
For Ac3: i found this post from a user:
In your games exe folder, go into the X360CE.INI and check the [InputHook] section. Put HookLL=(0/1)and HookCOM=(0/1)to enabled. Which means setting them to 1/1 instead of 0/1

Thanks, I'll try that. You can go ahead and use mine if you want. I'm surprised it came out so well. If I looked for my tripod for my DSLR I would get a sweet video but too much work
And yes I'm running 4.3. Video seems to be near instantaneous but audio has about a second lag. It's only annoying for games I've played that I KNOW should have audio at a specific moment.
On a side note, I just found Chuck's Challenge 3D on the store...WOOT brings back childhood playing Chip's Challenge. I think that game single handedly got me into puzzlers.

Fix didn't help. In fact, I think it's an issue with AC3 itself. If I delete the xinput file altogether it does the same thing. Also an easier way to configure your games is to copy your x360ce.ini and x360ce.gdb to C:\ProgramData\X360CE
I would recommend downloading the latest x360ce from here: http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list
You want 32 or 64bit based on your executable's binary. Most are 32 bit.
---------- Post added at 01:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:25 PM ----------
Chalk this up to strange as hell...
If I have the XBOX 360 wireless receiver plugged in an a controller synced when I launch AC3 and select the XBOX controller from the settings menu the controller doesn't work, but the Shield works PERFECT! W...T...F...? If I shut off the controller the Shield continues to function but as soon as you restart AC3 it no longer works unless the controller is synced.
I think what we need is droidmote to use the same hw/ven id's as the 360 controller and basically spoof itself as a controller, then the issue would go away altogether and we wouldn't/shouldn't even need to use x360ce.
Oh good find, im not sure if its zulu99 or x360ce dev who need to modify the hardware id. After you told me about the audio delay I did notice it while playing fps games and on vlc player lol I was so oblivious to it. I still find it very odd that nvidia is having so much trouble with their streamer considering they worked with splastop for the tegra hd streaming.

Just FYI had a similar issue on another game. Halo 2.
After quite a bit of tinkering, I have been able to play movies from a shared DVD drive on my Windows PC on my Fire TV with XBMC. This may save someone else a little time. Basic skills in setting up XBMC are required for this.
Note that while a DVD menu starts up quickly for me. It can take over 30 seconds (but less than 60 seconds) for the actual playback to start... so just wait for it. My Fire TV is on a wired network... I don't know how well this would work on a wireless network.
Basic steps are:
1) Share your DVD drive on your windows computer... call it something like "DVD". Make it public if you don't want to enter username/password.
2) Put a DVD Movie in the drive.
3) In Videos/Files add an item by browsing to the SMB share for the DVD drive.
4) In Settings/Video/DVD select Attempt to skip intro before DVD menu.
You can now play the DVD by hitting the play/pause button either on the DVD share or the video_ts folder. You can make this work better by
5) In Settings/Video/File List select Combine Split Video Items
This allows you to just use the center select button on the video_ts folder to play it rather than hitting the play/pause button.
6) You can also setup a favorite to the video_ts folder on the shared DVD drive so you can just select the favorite. Rename the favorite something like DVD.
7) If you are using elmerohueso's Confluence++ skin you can even add this favorite to a shortcut under the Videos menu so you can play the DVD from the main menu screen.
I also added an entry to the keyboard.xml file to be able to easily exit from the DVD menu back to XBMC:
<VideoMenu>
<keyboard>
<menu>Stop</menu>
<backspace>Stop</backspace>
</keyboard>
</VideoMenu>
**** If you cannot get playback to start, its probably a sharing problem on your PC. If you are not using username/password make sure you allow no passwords for public sharing profile ****
I am using SPMC http://spmc.semperpax.com/ as my Fire TV Launcher with elmerohueso's confluence++ skin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790392 . I also use Alternate Keymap 3 http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Alternative_keymaps_for_Fire_TV_remote#Keymap_3 for Fire TV http with the VideoMenu addition above.

Awesome guide! I plan on doing mine wireless, which should prove interesting and fun!
I will be doing some tinkering tonight, but there are a few ways I am planning to do this:
1) UPnP/DLNA (using a server, most likely Windows Media Player 12, and using MediaHouse or AirStream)
2) HTTP (apparently you can convert using MakeMKV one the fly and send stream via HTTP, and you can recieve by using an addon included in XMBC for MakeMKV)
3) Stream via ES File Explorer, or Solid Explorer, and somehow find a video player that will play Video_TS.
4) Something that I haven't thought of (which usually always happens)
After some fiddling around, I FINALLY got XBMC to receive video from my laptop, specifically from a DVD. I created a share path on the DVD, and added a Windows SMB, and I was successfully able to path to my DVD Drive. I specifically named the path E://DVD Drive and setup Windows SMB on the XBMC side to direct to the path.
However, there are a few things still I am trying to figure out.
1) View the disc in my drive as a DVD, rather then manually going into Video_TS and clicking on a file.
2) Figure out how to map the XBMC Remote for external applications
Those two are my big on to figure out list right now.

Related DVD Folder question...
Thanks a lot for the detailed description!
I currently own a WD TV box and have most of my DVDs transferred to a HDD. The WD TV is able to play the Video_TS folders directly from the USB-attached HDD, which I think is great.
Now I thought about upgrading to a Fire TV but I couldn't find any information if that box is able to do the same and not just play each VOB file individually - like my not so smart LG-TV...
Would be great if you could let me know.
Thanks a lot in advance!
Wifi no go
While I was able to play some small clips over wifi, there was a lot of freezing, buffering, and artifacts. Trying to play the movie, it just freezes at the title screen and never does start playing. I've never had much trouble sharing a DVD drive between PC's, so this is rather disappointing.
I sideloaded the new Amazon Instant Thirdpartyclient APK onto my shield. http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/amazon-mobile-llc/instant-video/amazon-video-3-0-63-239301-android-apk-download/
When i first tried it, it shows the same interface as on e.g. my Nexus 7. There are no borders around the currently selected items.
If you try to play a video, it loads a bit and then closes the video and goes back to the main screen.
(I invested this issue by checking the logcat and the problem is, that the app tries to show a xraycard in the navbar and i think androidtv doesnt support a navbar.)
I then looked through the files in the apk a bit and found some folders referencing a television mode (/res/layout-sw540dp-television).
So that lead me to the idea to test it with a different display density. To change that, connect your shield to your pc, enable abd debugging and open a command shell on your pc.
Code:
adb shell
Code:
wm density 321
This will change the interface of the amazon app to be somewhat useable on a tv. you see a border around the currently selected item and video playback is possible (only sd now).
Also you can't choose to play a specific episode of a season because the play-icon is not selectable with the remote or the controller.

Does this have further consequences for other (native Android TV) apps?
Hi everyone, just got done setting up my new Shield TV with Kodi to stream media files from my unRaid NAS! I purchased the Shield because my old WDTV Live was dying and there did not appear to be many options for media boxes that could stream network content without transcoding with Plex or similar. My unRaid server uses a very old Atom CPU and doesn't have the horsepower to transcode 720p video or above.
Setting up Kodi was pretty easy, although it wasn't able to install it from the Play store. I had to go the route of loading the APK from a USB stick. All of my networked media seems to play flawlessly!
So now onto my question, what is everyone using their Shield for? I've got mine in the bedroom and I'm curious to see what else I can do with it. Out of all my Android games (I have a lot because I've gone through 3 android phones and 2 android tablets) only Wayward Souls was available for Android TV. I some experience with PS1 and SNES emulators from my tablet, but it seems the Shield is much more capable.
My general household includes 2 android phones, an android tablet, a gaming PC with an nvidia graphics card, the unraid server, and an HTPC in the living room. Solid AC Wifi connection between the Shield and the rest of the network.
Throw some ideas at me - what else should I do with the Shield?
Welcome.
I'm using my Shield as a main media center hooked up to my TV in the living room.
I do some android gaming sometimes, but there aren't enough titles i like (hoping this will change)
once nop releases the NTFS and samba kernel, i'm planning to use it as a NAS with a 2.5" usb 3.0 hdd connected to it.
RetroboxTV is pretty sweet for game emulation.
We use our Shield as our primary media device. It does everything we want minus native WatchESPN. We have an hdhomerun prime that we use with the Live Channels app for live TV.
We have a 2 TB external HDD hooked up with movies and TV shows that we watch through Kodi.
What else are you looking for?
Sent from my XT1096 using Tapatalk
Get sideload launcher, it will give you a wider range of apps you can run. You can also install amazon underground (first download and install the Chrome .apk to browse to it). IMO, ES file explorer provides a lot of the network search functions that I used to use Kodi for, so that removes some software layers. MXPLayer seems to be the most capable video player I've tested.
Mount as fileshare

Hey can you help me out? I cannot figure out how to mount a network share into the filesystem.. ive tried using cifsmanager and tutorials but to no avail. can you please help?
just ordered my Shield TV
Relatively new here, roamed forums and maybe posted once or twice. Just ordered my NVidia shield tv and cant wait to get my hands on it! One question that I have yet to get a concrete answer to is can you run amazon prime video on it? Currently have an AFTV second gen and love it but always wanted more power out of it. Think im good with the shield tv but I do need to have prime video. Can someone give me a concrete answer? I've read through tons of threads out there and seems some people say you can while I've read others who say its a no go. HELP PLEASE!!!
P.S. thank you in advance!!!!

You CAN run prime video. However, the current workaround will not give you you 1080p (or 4K). You'll be limited to 720p. http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/development/amazon-prime-video-demand-android-tv-t3278778
OK everyone so I've been using my Shield for a bit now and here are my quick thoughts. I haven't rooted or installed ROMs or done anything else. The most complicated thing I've done is put APKs on a flash drive and clicked "OK" in ES File Explorer to install them. I've also had to use a computer with the Play store to install a few games/apps.
1) ES File Explorer is OK but the user interface is very difficult to navigate (not intuitive)
2) Getting a PS1 and SNES emulator up and running were easy
3) Netflix, PBS, and CBS Sports are the only native video streaming apps I can get to work because I have Comcast/Xfinity and they hate Android TV. However, CBS Sports is only clips, not full programming, I find that pretty useless.
4) HBO Go and Showtime Anytime work with built in app casting functionality from my Android phone
5) Fox Sports Go works by casting my phone through Android (not within the app)
6) There are very few games in the Play store that seem to support Shield TV. So far I've only got Wayward Souls and Reaper.
Questions:
1) I've got Retro Arch and Arc Browser installed because I read about them a lot. However, I can't figure out what to actually do with either of those apps.
2) What other Android/play store games?
3) What other video streaming services (I have Comcast/Xfinity)
4) What emulator next? I'm thinking PSP would be good... anything else?
5) Any other apps or cool uses I should look at?

1) There is a touchpad on the bottom of the game controller. It's hidden, but if you run your finger over the gray area above the volume control it should respond as a mouse pointer. That should help you navigate some apps easier.
2) Implosion (play store), Sonic CD & Goat Simulator (Chrome.apk -> Amazon underground -> amazon Apps), and some of the more ambitious MMO like War Thunder and Vendetta should work well.
3) HBOGo should work from your phone by casting, as will a lot of other video apps. FoxNow, WatchESPN, NBC, xfinity TV Go are some others I've tested successfully.
4)
5) sideload launcher if you don't already have it. Kodi is good for live TV from external devices (i.e. HDHomeRun Connect), but I've always found its navigation to be more complicated than it needs to be.
Things needed:
1. An android phone having a Micro-HDMI or MHL capability. ( I used my old Sony ericsson Xperia Neo V for this)
2. (Optional) Older androids don't have much RAM to receive casts and play them without much stutter. So i would suggest you to remove most bloatwares including Google Apps (Google play services sucks a lot of RAM so i had to do this)
3. Install this application from playstore [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cloudsiva.kx.cast&hl=en]
(Disclaimer: I have not linked this application for any commercial purpose or any other intention to compromise your devices. I suggest this application because it doesn't display any ads and it just works as i wished)
4. Connect your android phone to your Home Wi-Fi and plug your phone to your TV with the Micro-HDMI or MHL cable. You can also plug the usb cable to your phone and TV so it gets charged while you use the device
5. Since this app uses DLNA you need a few more steps for casting videos. Install this app from the playstore to your other phone (not the one connected to the TV) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aesoftware.tubio&hl=en. So that you can select the android as TV from the menu. It is normally displayed as KXcast(your phone model, MT11i in my case)
6. So as we had done every steps, now go to Youtube app in your phone (not the one connected to the TV) and click on share button above the video select Tubio app. Select your old android phone as TV and click play. It will show connecting to service please wait for a few seconds and then would play in your TV through your old Android device
Phone Model Used:
Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V
Accessories Needed:
Two android phones - One to receive (Plugged to the TV) and other to send, Micro-HDMI to HDMI or MHL cable, USB Cable (Optional)
Apps tested:
Youtube, Youtube gaming
Local videos:
Nero streaming player (Select the videos you want and play to the DLNA/Airplay enabled device you don't need Tubio for this. I have used Tubio only to play from youtube or other apps)
Please note: This is my first thread in XDA. Do inform me if i have violated any norms. All apps suggested above are not for any commercial purpose. The copyrights are owned by respective developers and i have not posted them for any commercial reason. The apps are suggested because they have less ads and are easy to use (Tubio has ads and HD is available only in Premium version). Post your doubts or suggestions

Respected Application developers of above suggested apps.
You can also use the app KXcast to receive Videos or Music from your Windows 10 Device. Click cast to device and select KXcast (Phone Model option) to play media files. Media playback depends upon the processing power of the receiving device. My phone is powered by a single core processor. So the Maximum resolution to restricted to 1280x720 and also only supported Media formats will play.
