I have been using modern Atrix 4g ROMs for the last couple of years. E Pinter's 10.1 with the stock launcher has been pretty good for day to day use. However it still drops cell connectivity (requiring a reboot) and has a pretty short battery life.
I need to use my phone as a reliable bare bones GPS tracker for a long cycling tour I have coming up. What is my best option for a low power, long battery life, stable ROM?
I don't mind going way back in time if I have to. Let me know your thoughts. And please post links if you know what they are
Thats a "whats the best rom?" question. These kinds of threads are not allowed.

There is no such thing called "best ROM/kernel/mod/...". Everything's got its own pros and cons. Head over to the development sections, try a few, and then decide for yourself

Due to the overwhelming amount of posts in many Rom threads, it is quite difficult even with the search option to find what you are looking for. As many of us who visit XDA on a daily basis realize, a large number of these posts are very repetitive. "Which kernel should I use for the best battery life?" "What Kernel will be the smoothest on my phone?" "Oh you have (Insert Kernel Here) Kernel, what kinda of battery life are you getting?" The questions in regards to battery life, kernels, and performance go on and on. I came up with an idea for a thread and after talking to a MOD about it decided to go ahead and get it started.
The Purpose of this Thread:
-Compile fellow EVO user's experiences with certain Rom and Kernel setup's in order to help all of us get the best performance and battery life with our EVO.
-To help cut down on the amount of repetitive posting about Kernels, Battery Life, and SetCpu in Rom threads. This is a forum and it is about makings posts, but many times people end up posting questions related to these things that have already been answered but may be hard to find.
-To give members a central thread for optimal performance based on other users experiences.
-To help other members find what Kernels, SetCPU settings, and other options will work best based upon their Hardware version.**I bring the hardware version up because it seems like certain things I.E. Kernels and certain settings do not play well with certain Hardware versions of the Evo.**
-To provide an Informational thread based on your experiences to help out everyone.
Please Note:
-This thread is NOT a place to go to war with others over which Rom is best or to bad mouth other Roms, everyone has their own preferences remember that.
-In order to keep this thread as clean and productive as possible, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM ASKING QUESTIONS HERE!
-If you have a question for an individual, PM them.
-If you have a question in regards to a Kernel, refer to the kernels thread.
-If you have a question in regards to SetCPU use the Q&A or your roms thread.
-If there is a basic question that often comes up on the Evo forums I will try to
provide links to the information.
-This thread is to be NON BIASED.
**My hopes would be that enough members post their personal stats and info here that on an OP I can list each rom, the hardware versions of the phone and what set ups seem to work the best with them. This info would be based on a general consensus based upon the information posted here.**
What to Post:
-Rom and Rom version that you are using. (I.E. Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 4) PLEASE make the font for this RED so users can easily spot which rom you are on when looking through this thread.
-Current Software version on your phone. (I.E. 3.30.651.3)
-Hardware version of your phone. (0001,0002,0003 or 0004) Please make this RED also.
-This is found under: Settings>About Phone>Hardware Information.
-The Kernel that you are using, the full name. (I.E. netarchy-toastmod-4.2.1-cfs-bfq-havs-more-smartass-universal)
-SetCPU? If so, what kind of settings are you using?
-Any kind of battery tweak? (I.E. Colin pH method)
-How would you rate your usage, and what is you awake time? (I.E. Minimal, Moderate, Heavy)(Awake Time:Settings>Battery)
-On a day to day basis what do you use your phone for?
-What kind of battery life are you getting? (On full charge: I.E. 16 hours)
-The Pros/Cons of this setup. (Cons if there are any)
-Why you would recommend this set up to others? (Again, please do not use this to slander other roms)
If you choose to contribute to this thread, Thank you for reading through this and for your contribution. I think if we can make something of this thread we can all benefit a lot from it. If you have any suggestions on what I should add to this please feel free to post it with your info or PM me if your not posting. I will try to update as much as possible, and of course that will depend on the reply that I get.
Reserved for future use
I would state the awake time instead of asking if they are a moderate/heavy...seems less opinionated even though someone with 5 hours awake time with idle cpu is not the same as 3 hours under heavy load.

Thank you sir, I went ahead and just added it in with it. Then we get the idea from both ways. If you have anything else just let me know. I would appreciate it!
i think you should post what kind of battery you are using
is it the standard 1500 mAH battery or the other extended battery
so people won't get lost
This is a good place to start, but it's difficult to get a good idea because there are too many variables that affect battery life from user to user. In addition, my light usage could be your moderate. Then people run different programs which will affect identical setups. Just throwing these things out there if you wonder why you aren't getting the same battery life as someone with same setup.
I'll go first....
I actually think this is an awesome idea. I think the idea of "not every phone is created equally" is a little over-exaggerated with the evo. Maybe we can start finding some similarities.
Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 4
3.30.651.3
0003
HTC Kernel #17. (I also tried the King's #11 (i think) and got horrible battery drain!)
Not using SetCPU
No Battery tweaks
Moderate usage. Not sure on awake time. I will edit this later today to add.
Mostly phone calls. A couple of texts and emails. Some games while I'm on the throne. The occasional web search.
I get maybe 12-14 hours of battery life.
PRO's:
-it's pretty looking
-a themed rosie launcher.
CON's:
-I got better battery life with Fresh 3.4.0.1 and stock kernel.
-Doesn't offer the original HTC #11 kernel like Fresh does. Anyone have a link to it?
I would recommend this setup to anyone that wants a good looking rom that has lots of customization options. I use it mostly because of the look of it. But, it is quick, scores well on quadrant, and gets decent battery life... It is not the best I have found... but it will get you through most of a day on moderate usage.
---
Can someone tell me... does the battery life depend on how the kernel plays with the ROM? I could get about 20-24 hours of battery life on Fresh with kernel #11. Now that I'm on Myn's and I could find the #11 kernel again, would I get the same battery life?
Good point. One of my biggest goals is to help people who wish to flash a custom kernel find the right one that is friendly with the Rom and most importantly the hardware version. Imo a rather a kernel is going to work with a phone or not has to do a lot with the hardware.

Which ROM&Kernel Combination gave you the best battery life?
I have to improve my battery life and i can't find the right combination.

pretty much. every device behaves differently I found.
Whatever combination you try though make sure you give it 2-3 days before judging it.
For me I'm using speedmod kernel + CheckRom HD. It's a great balance between battery life and performance. I use the 2000 mAh samsung battery and never have to worry during the day about my battery. Just plug it in when I go to sleep.
All the best!
I think Sensation ROM is the best. Cuz, very long battery life about 3-4 days in normal use(without open 3g or wifi). And, very stable for me

You're going to have to try various combinations out for yourself. Using the same combination as someone else on the basis of them saying "This rom/kernel combination gives me teh awesomz battery life !" will almost certainly lead to you being disappointed.
The reasons for that are:- No two phones come out of the factory the same (components do vary, mostly slightly, sometimes a lot), no two users will have the same usage patterns and no two users will have their phones setup the same.
Sooo....Get reading. Read the various threads about the various roms/kernels, take particular note of other people's experiences with same to give you a guide. And ask questions there if necessary.
Asking vague questions like this will ultimately waste your time.
Edit - Notice how so far you've only had answers from "newer" forum members ? There's a reason for that. Read my post again, the hint's in there

+1 on this.
I have no battery complaints. Why???? Because I have 3 spare batteries. I advise anyone who has issues with battery life to do the same.

My phone lasts weeks if I don't touch it and leave it in airplane mode! Wooooo!
There's a new "what ROM/kernel thread" every couple of days and I always read them for some reason. I think I have a pathological need to get these things marked as read but I don't want to just click the "Mark This Forum Read" button.
Really, every ROM I've used gets me through at least one day of normal use, and my varying usage patterns have much, much more impact than ROM. My advice is one of two things: either use a ROM you're comfortable with and just don't mess with it too much, or develop ORD and flash ROMs every few days. Either way you're probably gonna be fine.
CheckROM v4 and SiyahKernel i get just over a day of constant use, and around 3 to 4 days of moderate use using standard battery and a few battery saving tips mentioned previously.
CM7 + siyah kernel
so far i've been using CM7 + siyah kernel and it can last me a day with moderate use...just use 2G instead of 3G if u r not using the internet..2G is more than enough for my background apps that needs data for push notification(ie facebook, mail, whatsapp etc...)
i don't care about gpu or overclocking my device.. all i want is to unplugged the n4 form charger and go working in the morning and at night before bad to put it back in the charger - without it dieing on my before..
i had htc sensation and it last all day for me, i'm now 2 days with the nexus 4 , and after 12 hours the battery is dead.
i'm currently using Cyanogenmod 10.1 18/2/13 nightly . turn off locations, and Facebook sync. using only automatic brightness (witch my the way is very low), WiFi and gps and Bluetooth always off . 3g on.
thank you!
Usage varies across any ROM/kernel combo. No one can really say what's best, because everyone's usage varies. But, I can and will say, I'm having best battery life so far using asylum nightlies with matr1x 7.0 kernel. I have a very strict setup which I'm not getting into, but I am in no way limiting the function of this powerhouse. If that makes any sense. Currently sitting at 63% with almost 3 hours screen time. 50/50 3g/wifi and heavy use. think streaming, gaming, downloads. It would take me a very long time to describe what I do to get this battery life, but I would be willing to explain if needed.

I recommend AOKP build mr3, and Harsh's kernel. No need to tweak anything, everything is done for you and you get great battery life. Just my experience from it.

I'm using paranoidandriod with Franco kernel. I get great battery life all the time every time. Download the kernel and leave the settings as is and let it do it's thing.
Note: This has been asked too many times. You can search up the old ones and you'll pretty much get the same answers that it all depends on what you do. Battery life is subjective. It depends on the user. If someone only uses their phone for calls and text they will get awesome battery life. If another person has the same setup as the first they did play lots of game and play videos and such, battery life would not be so great. Thus, both users will tell you different answers.
Just try them out and see for yourself.

Anyone can help me with experiences with a kernel that has great battery life? I'm travelling to NYC (8 hours flight) so I would love to get the best out of the battery of my N7.
I would try 1 by 1 but my travel is tomorrow.. So yeah

I use the Faux Ultimate Kernel, and I simply under clock it when I want more battery life. I've managed to get almost a week out of it with moderate use, while being under clocked.

There is no "best" kernel or rom, They're opinions and subjective as it depends on your apps, usage and settings which is why these type of "best" or "fave" topics are not allowed on XDA.

Maybe I got the title wrong. I just would like to hear experiences on battery life with kernels. That's it. I don't have time to try kernels at the moment :/
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If you don't have time to experiment, then pick and Kernel which supports under clocking and under clock it for more battery life. That should help a little bit.
But like TheATHEiST said, there is no best, only preference.

True... but I don't think the OP was looking for 'best'... just garnering opinion on 'optimum'...(which I suppose might be regarded as semantic hair splitting; and so perhaps this should have been posted in 'General' instead of 'Q & A').
And in any case, if such threads aren't allowed, then this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2151963 is in serious breach of the rules.

For what it's worth, franco kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823671) offers pretty good battery life... in my experience.

Ive had good battery life on intersect raven, m-kernel and motley. you can also try setting the max active cores of these kernels to 2, with minimal loss to performance (it's a bit sluggish for multitasking though)

Ok Folks, you all know the rules about Best/Favorite Roms and Kernels and such. Not allowed due to flame wars sometimes starting.
Roms and Kernels are personal opinions, and what works best on 1 device, may behave differently on another. This is the way it is. The best method, is to read the kernel threads, and try a couple different ones.
The following thread, is the only OFFICIAL thread sanctioned by the Moderators. Please post your questions there, so that we may keep the forum cleaner for better searches.

Hello guys everything is in the title. I 'm looking for a rom wich give a very good life for battery.
Thanks for answer.
Hi,
It's not a good thing to ask for best ROM for xxxx reason. Everyone has different usage patterns and different needs, so that different ROM will suit them or you better.
You can instead, open the main ROM threads (both in Android and Original Android Development for S7 Edge) and see what the latest posts are complaining and what they are talking about what's good and what's bad about the ROM. Usually some users even post screenshots of their battery usage screen.
Another option is to go to a "How's Battery Life" or something like that thread and check what usage is similar to yours and what ROM the person reporting the battery life used.
All the best,
~Lord

Hello Lord. I ever test plenty rom. Batman, ambasadii, superman, project alice, superstock.
So, I finish to be loose in all of them. That's why i asking. Because for me battery life is important. And other things, we find some problems with Snapchat in some of theme.
So in fact i'm looking for the best rom for me.
