I'm wondering what kind of glass the S5 will sport? Is this known?
I think a lot of people want to know if it's worth buying a screen protector. I prefer just using a case to keep the screen safe and a screen without a screenprotector feels snappier
Have you considered using a glass screen protector? It gives the same "Snappy" effect as bare glass but also provides scratch protection for the screen.
Assuming I get the S5, that will be my first investment for the device.

I'm curious about these tempered glass screen protectors as well. I've always used Zagg HD on my devices and never had an issue. Was also curious do these screen protectors stay water resistant as well?

Sure, but say I use a flip case for the S5 and keep it in pocket (closed) most of the time. Do I need a screen protector? (I can imagine you need it for unforeseen circumstances, but everyday life?)

I would say for this reason more so than not. See, pocket lint and other dust/dirt/contaminates that make it into your pocket can often times cause micro scratches on your screen. Do you know what happens when those little items you can barely see get trapped between the flip cover and the screen? Well as you walk it actually uses that cover to grind those things into the screen even more. I like the flip covers, but without a screen protector i think they stand the potential to do more harm than good. I say, having a screen protector has yet to be a hindrance, why chance it.

I remember hearing somewhere it uses Gorilla Glass 3. I'm 100% sure it does. As for a screen protector, I find them unnecessary. I never drop my devices and always clean with microfiber, so scratches haven't been a problem. It's really a personal thing, but if I had to go for a screen protector it would be Spigen's GLAS.tr model.

Be extremely careful with the S5 bezel. I dropped my S5 facing down the other day. I took it and checked as if anything was broken. Didnt look carefully but turned out the bezel cracked but its very very hard to notice unless u watch it closely. I think a bumper wont hurt anyone. I personally want this girl naked

Same here, the screen is too valuable on the tab to get scratched imo ...
I've ordered this one for my SGS
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VWR2GO/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
The review I've read was saying it was pretty good, barely noticable, wich is a must considering a big plus on samsung's products are the screen.
I'll see if it's worthy, if it is, I'll order this one for the tab:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...TJV_2?ie=UTF8&m=A1E9T6XPH2ITJV&n=&s=&v=glance
(anyone has it already?)
I had one on originally, but got the newton rings and sent it back. I never bothered putting one on my new tab. I actually much prefer the feel of it without the screen protector. I have a case that covers the screen when I'm not using it, so I feel the risk of scratching is minimal. The protector just felt sort of rubbery, while the bare glass feels really smooth and slick. Could be the brand of screen protector. But I don't see much of a benefit of putting one on at this point.
But I do have 4 kids, so maybe you don't want take my advice on using supplemental protection...
Yep, don't feel right unless i do. I use a zagg from best buy, since they have never died on me.
Nope, I just use the official Samsung "book cover" case. Why would I want to cover such a sexy, smooth glass screen with a piece of plastic?
I did, and took it off weeks after. No matter what protector you use, it will diminish the quality of the screen. I tried the Zagg and BodyGuardz and when I took them off again, I realized that the screen is too sexy to be hindered. It's Gorilla Glass people; it doesn't scratch that easily. I have my tablet with a TPU case and I have no scratches so far. Just be careful where you put it and you're good to go.
I'm a huge fan of Matte finish anti-glare screen protectors. My tab is sporting one, so is my Galaxy S2...other protectors just get covered in fingerprints as well as not having one on... you should try it. Some people like them some don't... IMO best type of screen protectors.

I've had mine since they first day that Samsung sold the Tab and have never used a screen protector. Not a single scratch or mark on the screen.
Tablets are different than phones. Generally people chose a case that closes over the screen. It's not like you're going to put it in your pocket and get the screen scratched by your keys.
If your case doesn't close to cover the screen or you don't use a case all the time then it might be recommended to use a screen protector. Otherwise the only thing that should come in contact with the screen is your finger or a stylus. Unless, of course, you drop it.
I have had mine since launch with no screen protector and no scratches. It might be a question you have to ask yourself, as far as how much wear and tear will your tab see? It's not like a phone I keep in my pocket and carry everywhere (although I do take my tablet just about everywhere) that can get scratched by keys and the like.
+1 on matte protectors. Also, get a full body protector (sides and back are not scratch resistant!)
I, personally, can't stand the matte ones. It makes the screen look too grainy

I use a bookcase and screen protector. I usually take care of my electronics but somehow I managed to get some small scratches on my screen. I am not sure if they came from using my dagi stylus or from the cloth I use to wipe it with (dry booger perhaps). If you plan on using a stylus I would go for a screen protector. I am currently using one from Belkin but wouldn't really recommend it. I applied as pr instruction but it has an oily look to it. I spoke to their customer service and they said they would send me a new one but haven't received it yet (2 weeks).

I love matte ones but again the rainbow effect annoys me, so I found this SGP Ultra Fine - they advertise it as NO RAINBOW effects (link)
Does anyone here uses this and know it to be true or know if any other screen protectors do this?
I'm quite annoyed at the fact that the screen isn't oleophobic, attracts too many fingerprints !
Cheers
Never used them on SGS or Tab. Screens still look as good as new.

Nope... I have the Samsung case which protects the tablet well and as others have said it's Gorilla glass, so it doesn't scratch easily. The screen is too nice to cover it up.
I also don't have one on my sgs2 which is always in my pocket (nothing else in the same pocket) and it doesn't have any scratches after about 7 months.
I really question the use of cases and screen protectors for phones... In 2-3 years you are likely gonna change phones anyway... Why rob yourself of the smoother and better looking screen? So that it's still in good shape when you get rid of it? ? ? I'd rather enjoy the phone to it's full potential while I use it with the risk of getting scratches than keeping it in pristine shape for when it ends up in a drawer or in someone else's hands.

Many times 2-3 years is a longer time than I think is actual. More like 1-2.
But on point, because a device without scratches on on the screen can bring twice as much used than one with scratches.
Just my two cents.

Depends on how mad it will make you if you get a small scratch...
Personally I hate screen protectors, and won't use them. Same for cases. But I also typically only keep phones for 6 months, so not a lot of time to mess them up too badly.
On this phone, though, I did get the s-view flip case. Overpriced, but has a certain cool factor I like.

I actually have a Zagg HD shield on mine plus a TPU case. I went without one for a week and the amount of smudges and fingerprints on the screen drove me nuts. I was constantly wiping it on my pants leg or using my eyeglass cloth to clean it. That's when I went to BB and had them install one and I couldn't be happier. It doesn't take away anything from the phone, adds a level of protection( even if minute) and I've literally thrown this thing across the room trying to catch it from falling one time. It fell face down and I was afraid to even look at it in fear that it smashed on my hardwood floor. I turned it over and not a single scratch.
What exactly did you hate about it? Which shield did you have?
I use the Zagg HD shield as well and I love it. It cleans off easily and lets the screen shine through just fine.

^^ Same. Had an XtremeGuard on it which I ordered for about 79 cents before getting the phone so would have something when I got the device. However, it was way too sticky so ripped it off and doubt will be putting another one on. When I don't even use the phone for a year before upgrading it makes sense for me to get the full experience (way the screen is supposed to feel). However, if I wanted to spend the money would probably make an exception for one of the glass protectors.
In conclusion I would say it depends on the environment you are in, whether using a case and which type, how well you take care of things, if anyone else uses the device, and how long you are going to have it for.

I am currently using the Neo Hybrid case with the Spigen glass.t slim screen protector.
After having the case and screen protector on for over a month I love the case but could do without the glass.t
If it wasn't so expensive I would prob take it off.
My case and glass.t came with a free Spigen Ultra Crystal screen protector which I put on my wife's S4 and I actually like it better than the glass.t
Honestly with the S4 having Gorilla Glass 3 I'm not sure how much of a necessity the screen protector is but if you're like me and you don't wanna risk a scratch I would prob go for the Spigen Ultra Crystal if I could do it over.
2OG Epics, Epic4GT and now the S4, never had a screen protector, never had any scratches.
I've become very protective with my phone investments. I have yet to drop my S4 within the month of ownership. Knock on wood... I like originality. I can't stand cases and screen protectors which is why I don't use them and instead grab protection just-in-case. Some cases are more prone to actually damage your device. I say that from experience. Had 8 EVO 3D's of which 2 were dropped with cases and shattered my screen. The rest were just refurbished defects but that's another story. =P I say no to any extras unless you feel the need for a case and/or any other method of protection. Maybe start a new trend and use a non-lubricated condom. Could work. Hahaha.

The Zaggs, and Ghost armors are ok for a few months, and then they start getting their own scratches and distortions... The protectors, ironically, scratch easier than the gorilla glass does. They do, however, give you a little extra shatter protection. I gave up on invisishield and decided to just be careful. I like it better without the shield. I DO use a cover though. It gives you an added lip around the screen to prevent ground contact on the screen.

Hi, I was wondering if any of you S4 users have any scratches on your screen? I have quite a lot and have had the phone for a month. I thought gorilla glass 3 would be tougher than GG2. My HTC One had less scratches and I had it for longer. My brother had the S4 and complained about the amount of scratches also.
I have also noticed a couple of scratches on the screen. I have had mine for just over a month.
lot of it is down to environment. No amount of careful use will help if there is lint / dust particles in your pocket. Those are invisible but those minute sand particles will scratch anything short of diamond.
My sis has lot of fine hairline scratches on the ONE's soft key area which is only thing exposed. Screen part was covered and as some screen protectors had issues with soft keys, she had cut bottom part of the screen protector and it has fine scratches there.
Unless you really make sure there is no lint or you live in area which does not have too much wind dust, it is not easy to keep the phone scratchless without screen protector and without babying it.
I have always said, put a screen protector on it. Nature is more unpredictable than our technology, and more harsh than what we think.
I have absolutely no scratches and I wouldn't exactly say I baby my phone either

I had very bad experience with magnetic films (like Spigen one) on curved screens (s6 edge), the sides dont stick at all. The Armorsuit protectors work better since it is sillicon-like films (soft) with an abrasive layer to make sure it sticks, it has self healing to.

Not a fan of screen protectors on curved screens. Had a 920 back in the day (granted screen protector tech has come a long way) but i tried for a few weeks and then took it off.
Dont use them on any phone now, really all it does is stop scratches (which dont happen frequently with new gorilla glass).
If you want drop protection get a good case.

My Note 4 did get a scratch on the screen but I just couldn't stand the tempered glass protectors' terrible fit on the Note 4 and 5 and the soft protectors felt like crap when using the stylus... I'm not fond of the glare so I've got a Matte Skinomi screen protector on the way for the screen and one of their front and back film kits to just apply to the back side (it wasn't available in matte, hence the two orders)... We'll see. If I do end up getting a case it'll only be on the phone when I'm working in the garage or doing working on finishing my basement.

All these wet-apply protectors like Armorsuit are just awful; hideous orange-peel look, awful touch response, miserable experience...
in my opinion
I have been using gadgetshieldz protectors for a while now. Very good protection in my opinion. Protects the curved edges both on the front as well as back. Ordered one for my edge 7 and mine is on the way now. I have been using their textured skins too on my OP2 and they are fantastic. Exactly the same as the Dbrand ones.
Have a skinomi front and back protector with a symmetry case. Applied perfect but the case is now picking the corner up ruining the protector. I think I'm going to just rock it without a protector
Can someone please suggest a screen protector that doesn't have a rubbery feel to it?
The original factory one was good.
Probably as good as it gets.
I'm using Gorilla IQ Sheild. Feels ok but a little of that feel you don't want especially with the spen.
The urethane though is self healing (indentations) and provides good wear resistance.
Wet applied ones are also the easiest to properly install with a low install failure rate.

Yeah I noticed that too. The glass protectors are harder to install and a lot of cursing if the case dislodges them.
I don't use the spen much for drawing. It's a tradeoff you need to weigh.
These phones absolutely need a case and screen protector or they will get marred* and damaged.
*As a scientific experiment, lol, I took off the screen protector of my S4+ as it had a partially blown display driver anyway to see how it would fare. Felt a lot better but... even with care I had scratches on the glass after about 4 months.
The 10+'s Gorilla glass isn't much more scratch resistant...

I hear you.
Not providing one is a major Samsung fail.
However it be almost impossible to apply; the self adhesive ones can be real bears to put on.
The factory one has almost zero edge gap.
Like the ones I'm using as they are only $5 a pop and last a long time. They feel isn't a major issue for me.
Can't have everything... my would case likely dislodge a glass one... and I like my Bolt case a lot.
