Hi all, couldn't find a thread for this subject.
I like the transparent statusbar and I understand that when using apps or in certain screens it will be black but when I crop an image to use as a wallpaper shouldn't it be fullscreen ratio? On the stock wallpapers it is transparent but with a custom image it's black. Not sure if there's anything I can do as I'm no dev, but if anyone knows of a solution I'd like to hear it.
Thanks

Samsung has a new update that has the transparent notification.
I make my own custom wallpaper. It shows up transparent just fine. I am/was confused about the transparent fix Samsung announced.
Currently I have a picture of grass I took. The picture was taken with the phone camera. The stock wallpaper app seems to do a good job cropping.
On the laptop using GIMP I crop and scale to 1920x1920 300 DPI. Canvas adjust to 1080x1080. Then Image size to 1920x1920 300dpi.
First screenshot is the grass background I made in GIMP. Second is a dandelion picture I captured and cropped on phone. They both have a transparent notification bar. Hence my confusion.

Ah, well... I am running rooted stock and when I go to update software I get toasted with something like "this device has been modified. There are no updates available" any way to fool it into thinking I have unmodified binaries or am I going to have to get on a custom rom to stay updated? I have put a lot of work into build.prop tweaks, init.d scripts, audio/visual mods, etc....it's just that the opaque status bar is a little thing that irks me. I also am a little bummed out knowing that I'm missing out on some cool little updates.

The new update has only been released to the Germany T-Mobile AFAIK. There are a couple custom ROM based on it using the transparent notification. If you want to keep root and a recovery, I would not recommend flashing anything from AT&T since its rumor they are working on a fix for that...

Yeah. Att doesn't work so well for me anyway. I have to flash a jfltecan kernel with any att rom I've found or I get stuck in bootloop and I'm worried about a potential bricking. Either way I don't like having att posted all over my telus phone so I steer clear. There are some cool telus based roms but I like to try and figure the mods out or at least ask around for reading material to help me.

Err . I didn't mean to add ATT crap in there since I saw the M on your sig... opps, its a habit
You can flash I9505 ROMs from what I have read. Not sure about your carriers track record in releasing updates in a timely manner (ATT sucks about that). Have you checked out the I9505 threads? Just make sure its I9505 Qualcomm and not the Octa-core I9500.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303125
Btw anybody notice this? I found it in the i9505 thread. It says it should work on any variant but I think I might be doing something wrong when manually editing build.prop because it hangs at the Samsung logo boot animation forever. When flashing the zips it says editing build.prop so maybe the manual edit is unnecessary? If I get it working I'll let anybody interested know, likewise if anybody else takes interest and can make it work let me know how.
(Edit) this doesn't work according to multiple people in the thread. Sorry for wasted space.

You could try a new launcher before rooting if you want to start out slow. Nova is pretty nice for example.
Here's a good place to start reading about rooting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803

You can try out the i9505G rom.. Pure nexus experience. However if you've never rooted or flashed a rom before I suggest you install one of the many launchers available in the play store. Nova launcher is one of the best ones out there.
Hi, I had exactly the same issue, recently switched from iOS to HTC Sense 5 and now to S4. I personally hate touchwiz and find it unusable but love the s4 hardware, so I tried several launchers which did not really address my issues with TW. Without any experience and a bit of research I rooted my phone, installed a custom recovery and flashed GE 4.3 Rom. Works flawlessly, except for a battery drain which is going to be fixed soon.
I highly recommend this - definitely the best phone I've used.

I will flash the google edition rom when google actually release it ''officially'' for the GT0i9505. I have read somewhere on this board that they wanted to do this @ a later date.
Start out slow with a custom launcher like Nova Prime and then read up on rooting and flashing, once you feel comfortable, flash the GE rom and enjoy the AOSP feel.

I recommend Nova Launcher if you don't know about flashing Custom ROMs. otherwise Jamal did a pretty good job at his 4.2.2 GE ROM for the i9505.

Hello Everyone I have a few quick questions. I searched the web for answers but none turned up. I am very new to rooting phones but I love stock android so bad, I must have it. So here are my questions concerning rooting my SGs4.
I have rooted my nexus 4 and put Cyanogenmod on it in the past, is the process the same for the sgs4?
The sgs4 has many features iv never seen on Cyanogenmod, I could be wrong so will all my s4 features still work?
Finally whats this Build MF9 mean? iv recently bought my s4 does this build apply to me?
MF9 is the text code for the date the software was released. Go to settings - more - about device and look at your build number to see which version you are on. If not mf9 do the software update.
None of the touchwiz apps will work natively on an AOSP based rom but many of them (not all) have alternatives in the play store market
We should be getting an upadate to android 4.3 starting tomorrow so you may want to hold off and see how you like that first.

Yeah and all of the fancy gestures like the smart stay, smart scroll, air view and air gestures will not work on AOSP from my understanding. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

As these people stated are true but to be honest if you plan to root do not update to 4.3 unless some devs says is a go for rooting. And if you do decide to upgrade, you might stay without root for awhile.
A rooted verson will be out before the OTA goes out.. The source is already available

Thank you all I read everyone's post, very helpful. I do have build number ending in mf9 so I think I'm good to root.
I don't think update will be cool and I don't need Samsungs bloat ware, truthfully I haven't used not one of their features.
I have had an amazing experience on cyanogen mod with my nexus 4.
Also I hear battery is amazing on Cm on gs4

I've been using Hyperdrive since the first build came out for Note 3 and the thing I like most about it is the battery life. I unplug at between 5 and 7am and by the time I go to bed at night I'm usually still around 75 - 80%. Of course it runs much smoother for me than stock does and I like the customizations that come along with it as well. I tried to flash Beans last night just to check it out but for some reason it wouldn't boot so I just restored my nandroid. I'm planning on flashing Beans when I get a little more time and checking it out but for now I'm extremely pleased with Hyperdrives performance on my device.
Eclipse
Im gonna wait on Nitro and his fabulous eclipse rom, it will be awesome, right now running stock trimmed out.
Try both and see if you like either one better than stock.

Might as well do this. With SafeStrap, you can load up multiple ROMS and switch as your heart desires. Honestly, don't know why phones with unlocked bootloaders don't have a Recovery that allows ROM slots. Seems to make perfect sense so you can load up more than one ROM. Just like partitioning your hard drive and running Windows on one side and Linux on the other. You can chose what you want to use, when you want to. Cant beat it.
But to answer your question, I am running HyperDrive since version 1. Havent really tried Beans. Sure it runs just as good. I am just happy with Hyper right now.
Stock with xposed framework and modules. While i appreciate everything the dev's do, development is not far enough along to leave stock with xposed yet.
Also on stock with too many mods in xposed to count. I seriously can't see any reason to flash a rom. I'm consistently getting up to 2 days uptime and I have all the mods I could ever want.

So i struggled for the longest time why one rom on my phone would play nicer than the other , if they both use the same base.
So I formulated a theory , which can be really wrong , so take it with a grain of salt: Currently I have close to 120 user apps and wanam xposed with multiple customizations. I feel like your set is up is the reason why one rom will be buggy with poor battery life and other will be phenomenal. That is why you will find people swearing with one and hating the other. It is hard to find a perfect rom for all, since android varies tremendously due to its wonderful inherent ability to be customized.
of course you can also argue for coding, build boxes and smali skills.
which goes back to the main point, you need to try it out because compatibility between the developer's build and your set up is key to the perfect rom combination
so dont be startled if you try a rom that others rave about and it sucked on your phone , just move on and vice versa.

I totally agree with you there. My battery life on HyperDrive is ridiculous. I can go almost two days before I need to plug my phone in. I'm very satisfied with HD and don't plan on switching anytime soon. I ended up staying on RLS2 cause my theme was causing my phone to reboot whenever I pressed the lock button after I took the RLS3 update, but overall HD is a very solid ROM and I'm quite content with it.
I just recently flashed the newest hyperdrive update RLS3 On 11/27 I'm having problems on the power menu doesn't show the power off also in the very top next to the clock it shows a lock icon what is it there for and can I remove it

Did a quick search but couldn't find a definite answer, so does anyone know if the Xposed framework is compatible with stock rooted G2? It's the Sprint ZVA variant, deodexed. I'd really like to customize this phone a lot more but to be honest I'm really not too impressed with many of the custom roms because I've found a nagging bug in just about every rom I've tried. Stock seems to work best and provide solid battery life, call quality, etc so I'd prefer to stick with that, and customize the hell out of it.
Edit: tested, works great on stock with G2 Xposed. I am even able to install CM themes on stock with HK Theme Manager.
