We are looking for someone in the Mountain View area to represent XDA at the Google Project Ara Developers Conference on April 14-16 2014.
But here's the deal. They are being very selective with invites for the in person conference.
http://www.projectara.com/project-ara-call-for-developers
For in-person participants, we kindly request a short narrative articulating their interest in Ara module development. Optional links to additional information that will help us assess your interest may be included. We will review in-person participation requests periodically between now and the conference date. If approved, you will be asked to pay the registration fee within 48 hours. Note that we will not be able to accept payments on site.

After applying, and if you are selected to attend, please let us know! We would love to have someone there representing XDA and if possible do a writeup on the portal about the project. Of course we can't make any promises but Google is very kind to developers at their conferences, so it will be interesting to see what they have in store for attendees. It is hosted at the Computer Museum in Mountain View, CA, USA.
Please mention you are from XDA on the application!

Are you going?
I'm actually also going to the conference in Mountain View, but I don't know anyone else going. Not sure how many people are attending.
I'd like to know about diagnostic tools used for the UniBus. If you could find out if there are diagnostic tools available, that would be awesome. Id like to make some foolish items like an app which would locate an item on the UniBus and flash a GPIO or something. I'd like to know about the possibility of a BusPirate-like device for it. Something that would allow viewing/filtering of data in realtime.
@bitpushr ... Maybe posting this article in the portal may help us ...
article posted. I wished I could go but its 1000's of miles away from me.
well yes me going virtually here is the link to the thread with the video link Project Ara Developers Conference Day 1

You should post a bit more information about what you're trying to do if you want to get serious developers interested. For example, are you commissioning an app, or are you wanting to partner with someone to develop something? If the latter, do you know anything about programming? If you don't, what would you bring to the table? Just a good idea probably isn't enough to warrant a 50% share in whatever is made. All this can be given without having to disclose what your idea itself.
(If you *are* getting serious developers interested, then ignore me! )
Can we please sign up for official beta testing froyo, we don't want cash just a free device every 2 years.
Lets make it official, sign on if you would like to be included
Please leave cynicism out of this thread.
Its cheap labour as it is

tbh i would test if for lot less NOW!
ten chars!!!
Are there beta testers for devices or android systems?
If not I am not sure why pc apps use beta testing and not android

I'll be more than happy to try out any alpha & beta releases of any Android products
just being able to play with the latest and greatest is more than enough joy for me
Moved to General forum. The development forum is only for development threads. (Threads with actual development happening.)
Questions should always be in the General forums (or Q&A if your device has a Q&A forum.)
I would be very interested in testing for free devices
Add me to the list.
I'd love to do some beta testing!!!

You can definitely count me in
alpha testing Android 3.0 is also ok
I'm sure plenty of people around here would be interested in such a scheme, myself included! As to whether it would come to pass..

Seriously? Please? I think this thread needs a pretty epic dose of it.
It would be great if there was an employee of Samsung / HTC / other phone manufacturers as a contact point between the dev community and the manufacturers themselves.
Eg: to look through forums such as this, see what everyone's saying, keep us posted on news and dates and seek honest feedback from us.
The only people who look through XDA are those interested in modding and installing custom firmwares anyway, so regular consumers would gain the benefit of us testing the stuff out without them having to be aware of it.
Plus, one of the deciding factors of many enthusiasts when buying a new Android phone is the dev community and support, so you can guarantee they would gain at least a few more sales from those interested.

That will make them way too vurnerable and the benefits will never justify the costs. The game they play is how to make as much as profit as one can. From that perspective things are good if and only if the sales figures are good. So, for them, sales figures are all the feedback they need
If they did do such a scheme, it would be in Korea.
Howdy, the name's Mike. I've got an idea for a comics app that I think has legs. I want to release it for the Android Market, but I'm a graphic designer and I'm absolutely useless when it comes to code. The App Inventor isn't robust enough for my needs. So, I need to hire someone who can take my graphics, concepts and instructions and make it into a real app.
I'm planning this as a commercial application (~1.99/free with ads), so you will be paid well for your work. Preference will be given to developers who can code for multiple platforms (Android/iOS/WP7), have proven development and Android Market experience, enjoy internet comics, and who can meet in person in north Texas.
I've been lurking on XDA since I got my HTC Touch three years ago, and I can't think of anywhere else I'd like to start looking for talented developers. I supply the ideas, the capital and the interface. You supply the rest. Let's make an app. Email me at aggie20x at gmail dot com to get the ball rolling.
[Mods: If this post violates XDA rules, please take it down and email me to let me seek alternatives. I don't want to make any trouble.]
I was wondering a similar thing, but a search doesn't give much.
I didn't want to make a new post, I'm surprised there wasn't a long list of devs for hire already
Please post here if you might be available. I have a rather simple app request.

Let's hear it.
Basically I just want an app for my site (see sig below) which will give the posts in a list, have a tab for comments and a tab for videos (from our YouTube channel).
My idea was it would be a way for people to say thanks (I would charge 99p for it) and it would maybe help fund further progress of the site...
Some of you may be familiar with the community website 'CouchSurfing' http://www.couchsurfing.org/
There is no doubt a demand for an Android app to facilitate for users of the website. My research indicates that there are others who are keen to do this, however the Couchsurfing website doesn't have an API to facilitate for the creation of an app.
I suggest visiting this thread on the CS wiki and help to encourage CS to implement an API in their website.
Any further suggestions welcomed!
Update:
For anyone interested, the CS team replied to my email saying:
Thank you for your suggestion.
We have this on our list for quite a while now but it isn't a priority for our Tech Team at this time.

If you want it, then let them know there's a demand
an api costs time, an app to take advantage of that api costs time.
and as time is money, unless you're willing to fund it, why should the website owners care? it depends on how it could be monitised. simple as.
something that wiki article completely overlooks. it's like... it was wrtten by people with no concept of costing.
CouchSurfing is a non-profit organisation so it doesn't have a business-orientated model (thankfully there are still some things out there like that).
It may cost some time & effort to API the website, but the return is that CS would be brought into the future of mobile computing which is invaluable really. Many apps, particularly on Android, are not developed on a monetary basis. I don't see why this would be any different.

you're missing the point. even a non-profit has costs. how many trustworthy developers are going to work for free?

no, it will cost, money. and, not "may", it will. you've obviously never done any api work to know that it's not simple. once completed, there are ongoing security problems, additional bandwidth problems, updating...
but the return is that CS would be brought into the future of mobile computing which is invaluable really.

"invaluable really"? wtf. again, you're missing the point, it's about ROI. "being brought into the future of mobile computing" doesn't pay dev bills. face it, it's just a "cool".

i'm sure more are than you realise. ever notice those ads in the 'free' apps.
after running a few websites where the readers felt that they had a share in the site and demanded that i do xyz to improve it in their eyes, i completely understand both points. however, unless you're going to pay for the dev work, why should the owners care? you're just - to them - a mouthy user who wants more than you're getting - for free.
I appreciate your concerns. There is a monetary value attached to this, and clearly you see that as the most important issue.
You don't, however, speak on behalf of the CouchSurfing team. Their website is run off donations. If there is demand for improving the website to allow for features like this, a push can be made for further donations. There is also the possibility to profit from the app via advertising or a paid/donation app.
Thank you for highlighting some of the potential issues. I didn't post this to have an debate about the viability of such an application, rather to encourage anyone who is interested in the website and the progression of an Android app to contribute.
I'm a User Experience and Interface Designer, so if anyone starts work on an app, I'd be very happy to help with UX, usability and overall design.
Yes, please
Just adding my support for a mobile CouchSurfing app. I'd gladly make a $10 or more "donation" for a paid app of this sort. It would really be beneficial for Surfers who are on the road as the desktop site is rather clunky on a mobile browser.
I've just contacted them and told them I'd be willing to develop an API for them. For free. I don't care, I want to do Android development and I need a project to work on in order to learn.
If they let me (that's still the question), I would love to discuss with anyone above interested in developing an app, in return for sharing information about and source code of said app (ie. I want to peek in your code).
I also want to do a similar thing for Eurostop, a European carpooling website. The German counterpart "mitfahrgelegenheit" has an app that's worth imitating.
Hello,
My partner and I are looking to develop an Android app. We formed the company and setup the foundation. We are looking for advanced developers to join our team. We believe this app is unlike anything else and possibly game changer. Our preference is to work in person, local developers in Bay Area, California.
Please contact me.
Thank you.

Sorry about this, won't happen again. I figured looking for some great talent on xda devoted to developers would be a good place.
P.s. I was not trying to advertise or generate money.
