[Q] Sooo.... Galaxy S5? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just wanna ask a couple of questions guys, I know I will come across a little eager as it's very early days, but the curiosity is killing me.
What are the chances of the new touchwiz being ported to the Galaxy S4?
Is there a chance even the camera features and UI will be ported too?
Thanks.

Here is on e of the initial write ups on the new S5 vs the old S4 (not that old). My answer would be yes to each of your questions. Its just a matter of time. Be patient.

Why would it be a big deal...? Its just software changes to get those features working... Only issue would be, all these features will only be available on a Samsung based custom ROM not AOSP or something... But bringing them to the s3 or note really won't be a big deal...
I was surprised that Samsung didn't include a photosphere like function...

Samsung will most likly bring some of the features to the N2 and S3, but i dont know about the major features, as they might want to keep them only on S4 to make people buy it.
It might be quite hard to port, as the source code is closed, which means a lot of fiddling .
if it was open source, it would be relatively easy to port. but samsung sucks at open source
Cheers

yes, but s3 so far still don't have fast and slow motion video recording

i9500 or i9505?!

Ok, So I have a choice between the two - Which has the better scene/dev support?
I really enjoy AOKP/AOSP/CM roms..
This will be my 1st Samsung phone after having a HTC One X and currently a iPhone 5 (Ugh, don't ask... )
I don't want to get stuck on the least-supported handset - that would just feck me off no end..
Thanks in advance
I9500 is slightly faster than I9505, but nothing that too noticeable in real world performance. However I9505 has better dev support (even official CM!). Hope this clarifies

Hey Thanks for the swift reply!
I'm not too concerned bout "slight" performance differences if their not noticeable in everyday usage. I would rather get the 9505 as 4G is slowly being turned on around here and its something I'm keen on
I9505 for sure... battery life is much better for me that is big reason to buy this model...

I9505 anytime friend
But instead of a new thread use search for the same query u ll have more answers already
.
Yup, I9505 all the way, there`s always something going on with the Exynos cpu`s wether for the S2, S3, Note and Note 2. Now i hope Samsung stores the EFS on a secure partition in the near future to avoid Imei`s beeing wiped.
9505 for sure. Dev support and any other aspect imho. This is very solid gear.

When you recommend i9505, even the Google Play Edition (i9505G) is included, right?

GT-I9505 has a bigger system partition, so if you want to install a TW ROM you must have this one. However if you intend in not using any TW or variants ROM you can go for GT-I9505G, which has a bigger data partition at the price of less system partition (in my case the G would be better, as I have now 2.12GB free in system ROM lol, but G wasn't released when I got mine).

Only you can decide that. Look up the proposed features of the S5 and then see what the S4 offers and make a decision. I would wait until it is definitely known what the specs and features of the S5 will be because it's just speculation now. Also, do as much reading as possible. Just about any possible question about the S4 has been asked and answered, just use the search function to find those answers.
One more thing. If you wait for the S5, wait until the developers edition or GE edition is released. Maybe even get the International S5 version if it is proven to work with AT&T LTE (which it should). DO not get the carrier branded version unless locked bootloaders and bloat is what you are looking for. Also, look into the KNOX issues to see if it further cripples the phones ability to be customized. If it does, you will probably be better going with another brand. But, like I said, you need to read and decide for yourself. Good luck.
Personally I don't think it's worth the wait. As for the s4 it's a good phone but there are other great phones out at the moment. If I was in your shoes I would consider the nexus 5 HTC one and LG g2 as alternative options. There is the note 3 but that depends on if your willing to carry a 5.7 inch screen with you.
Also now that I've had the s4 for a while I honestly got bored with it. I was hoping 4.3 would breath life back into it but it's just about the same. As for safestrap it helped but shortly got bored with ROMs and went back to stock. For my next upgrade I'll try another brand.
interesting replys thanks for that seems like i got a bit of reading to
i was thinking of going for the s5 cause ive been more than happy with the s2 for the last 2 years and i would imagine the s5 when its released will be a full spec phone

The future of flashing custom Roms is getting harder with new phones coming out so keep that in mind, if you don't mind not flashing custom Roms than the s5 would be a great phone.

Stay far away from the official ATT S4, they locked this phone down so tight, no custom Recovery, no flashing fresh new ROM's. It totally sucks, and is a very disturbing trend from ATT. Even the new Note 3 got the shaft Development on the ATT Note 3 is NONEXISTENT.
Even though I do love my S4, great smartphone, but if you get an MF3, or MJ9 version, your screwed.
If you got the cash, and want an S4, get the Google Play Edition, or find an International S4 on eBay.
I sure hope ATT isn't going to continue this in the future, locking down all new phones, and killing development ?
At least the ATT HTC One is totally developer friendly, it can be rooted, recovery, and S-Off no problem.

Probably best served if all future discussion goes here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433789

Is it a good idea to get the G2 now and use only for custom ROMs? or wait?

Currently on Galaxy S3
I will probably put CM11 on it if I get my hands on the G2
How much of stock rom specific feature will I lost?
is it worth the money today?
will it last at least 3 years?
thank you!
What question is that ????

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Edition

Dears,
How is everyone doing?
I have been an Android user for many years (Nexus Flagship to be precise), last year I switched to the Galaxy S4 GPE and it was an amazing phone.
After the release of Galaxy S5, I have been waiting patiently for the release of the GPE, but there are no words yet other than the rumors, speculations, Google putting it's image on the store instead of the S4 by mistake. And that's it.
You may be wondering what this topic is about, I need an advise from you guys on:
1- Is there any hope for it to be released, or was the rumors about Google not going through the trouble of releasing it because of the heart rate and finger sensors.
2- If yes, how long do you think we will wait?
3- I HATE samsung TouchWIz and the bloats that comes with it, is there any custom Stock ROM for it yet?
4- Is there a stable Cyanogenmod for the S5 ?
Regards,
Oh, forgot to mention, the reason why I'm not interested in any other GPE devices is that they all together lack one thing I think it's important to have in a smartphone, a (DECENT CAMERA), every device released by Google whether it was a Nexus or something else lacks a good camera. :crying: as a photographer/multimedia user and a blogger, it is a necessary for me.

1 and 2 - read this thread >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796346
3 and 4 - look in the development forums, if threads for what you want exist, then the answers are yes, else no.
Stick with the S4 or get an iPhone.
