I did research for this for a couple of hours but didn't find anything too helpful besides flashing back to stock. I also saw I could install the TWRP img file by the command line but that makes me a little nervous for the brick warnings posted.
I have the Goldeneye rom on my phone and I had TWRP 2.5.0.2 and everything was working great. I also updated the Modem to the MF3 one. I flashed TWRP up to 2.6 and loki-doki and everything seemed to go OK until I rebooted the phone.
I rebooted the phone and got the error of System software not authorized by ATT has been found on your phone and the SECURE FAIL: KERNEL message at the top.
I am now unable to boot into recovery with the buttons or using the reboot menu from the Goldeneye rom. Every time I try to reboot it goes to the error message above.
Now I am able to have the phone boot up fully if I go into download mode and then press the volume down key to cancel/restart the phone and then it will boot up with out issue. Any time I reboot though with out going into download mode I get the secure kernel error.
Is there a way to recover the device without going through ODIN and reflashing it back to stock? Also, my baseband shows MF3 now since I flashed the modem, is that going to cause any issues?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Can you try reinstalling the twrp recovery through goomanager when you get it to boot.. Then retrying to get into recovery?

Why not Odin
I haven't looked for awhile, but if you example of command to put recovery on phone by adb, try it. If you have the command line from a dev thread then just copy/paste the line. No chance of typing error. Still double check all. And any bu's you can do prior, do them and put copy on pc. Know you can't nandroid, but maybe MyBackUp Pro.
I was hoping there was something I could do to retain the setup on the phone how it is.
I'll push the twrp file using the command line and if that doesn't work I will flash with odin

YoungGunner posted this thread at one point and I have a question about it... heres his thread:
This will make your device think it is a d801 but that is what we want to have USA DOMESTIC GSM
all features seem to be working, though i have not tested 100% of everything.
Working
confirmed:
talk,text,web(HPSA+ 4G),mms working
BUGS:
NFC -
Rest Unknown
any other issues let me know.
I am not responsible for the damages you or I and my related files might cause to your device.
YOU MUST BE ROOTED;
WIPE, DATA, WIPE CACHE, INSTALL ROM, INSTALL GAPPS, REBOOT.
ENJOY!
This is my question based on his thread:
Could you please help me? Someone I bought this phone from had done this.. and I didnt know it was a custom rom so I flashed the Tmobile stock recovery KDZ thinking i could unroot and get my OTA updates. Turns out it was a sprint phone, and so the tmobile stock rom is unstable, rebooting all the time and so i cant even root now. I cant flash the TOT file from sprint because the phone now thinks its a D801 (due to the CRC check)... could you help or explain to me how I can get sprint stock rom back on this phone ? I don't know how its possible when it keeps resetting, and wont allow me to install Sprint TOT because LGFLASHTOOL says "wrong model" .. is there a way to make this phone think its a LS980 again intead of D801 in the settings... and please keep in mind it reboots every minute or minute and a half on me so if your method involves a bunch of work that i cant pull off quickly im a little it screwed... i figured there might be a way to edit the model number.. please help if you can, i just bought the phone and if its bricked i just lost a lot of money... thanks in advance

I'm going to assume he knows how since he is taking about files that's can only be flashed through the lg tool.
And that's all I would be able to recommend to you to fix it would be follow the back to stock method for our device.. Maybe abd a recovery to the phone that's all I would think to do.
Are you on sprint If so do you have insurance you can go to a sprint service center. They can advanced exchange it for you but don't tall about rooting it or flashing a tmobile firmware on it or they won't do that. Or have a buddy with sprint & insurance activate your device they can do the exchange on it is free that way.

So firs of all U need root your device even is looking as D801 model
Download Stock Sprint rom in .zip and copy on your card if U are available
Try install TWRP recovery I was used OptimusRs Recovery flasher
If U are sucsess flash the stock rom via TWRP recovery
Let me know if I helped U :good:
Correct, you need to flash a ls980 Rom to make our device show up again as a ls980, I'm working on a flashable zip that will make it easier switching back and forth. If you need extra assistance feel free to contact me via PM and I can probably.help you out.

I'm in the same position as OP, but I have managed to flash CWM but, I still can't get it back to being ls980...
if you can get into recovery, just simply adb push or adb sideload your ls980 rom. that should allow you to use download mode as a ls980 after it returns to a ls980 build.prop

this is a stock tomible rom that will work on our ls980 - this was made by justinswidebody.
flash this (just like a normal rom) reboot your phone
place your new rom on the device, flash that (just like a normal rom)
and that should return your device state back to a ls980, or you can boot into the rom change your build.prop and then use download mode.
either way should help fix your issue.

I'm trying again today, so I got TWRP on it this time, and I sidenloaded "sprint T-mobile rom" and it flashed successful and it shows 2.2gb as space taken up the rom. But, when I reboot I get:
fastboot
udc_start()
so now what?
edit: so now I'm getting this:
[780] fast boot mode start
[830] udc_start()
[990] -reset-
[1000] -port charge-
[1090] fastboot: processing commands
Also it says:
E: Unable to find partition size for '/sb12'
E: Unable to find partition size for '/sb13'
seems it's has gotten worse than before...i think doing cache clearing after flashing the rom wasn't a good thing...
so, another update in download mode, at the bottom in red it says B96 and rooted...so what does this mean?

Just search how to back to stock rom t mobile. You flash the stock rom tmobile kdz via lg flash tool.
After flash, you ve got tmobile rom. But always crash every 30 seconds.
Root via adb, and flash twrp recovery. You have done quickly coz random boot.
After success root and flash twrp, you download stock rooted rom sprint ekstension zip.
Flash via twrp, and you back to fasboot mode, bootloop. But your g2 was sprint again.
Download rom back to stock, fill dll and tot file, flash via lg flash tool. Awesome, you be back to new handheld.

So yeah. Installed the FreeGee beta which supposedly supports KitKat. It installed TWRP and it works...but now if I try booting into the actual OS, I get stuck at the LG logo (not the animated one).
"Alright," I said, annoyed. "I'll have to just use download mode and go back to 4.2.2 and start over."
Except download mode doesn't work. It gets stuck on the Download Mode splash screen but doesn't go any further...
What should I do? :/
TWRP - working
OS - not working
Download mode - not working
Well if you have adb setup you can try pushing a 4.2 Rom plus jb baseband to see if you can boot that way

I believe you were supposed to flash a patched kernel for kk after installing the recovery.
if you can push it to your phone and flash it in recovery it might boot correctly. i could be wrong though
No idea how to push it to the phone. ADB sideload doesn't work, just says "starting" but doesn't actually progress.
EDIT: Alright I fixed the sideload. It works now! Any guidance as to what kernel files I need to flash? Sorry for being so terrible at this.

Here's a link to the patched kk kernels - download the one for your variant : http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=12894 [taken from thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680948]
im not completely sure it will work but if i remember correctly you need this patched kernel (or any other patched kk kernel) for everything to work correctly (kk + root + recovery)
Hey man, thanks for sticking with me and giving me all the recommendations. I managed to sideload the latest Mahdi ROM along with my variant's kernel. Currently doing first boot but it's taking a while...
BOOTED! Now attempting Download Mode.
Alright, download mode is still broken. I can boot in and everything but no Download Mode. This is a weird issue.

no worries, i was really stoked when i got everything working so i kinda remember the process
not sure about mahdi rom since i dont think its based on the official kk source for this phone
you should only need a patched kernel if you are using a stock kk rom or the g pro 2 ports with a custom recovery
Yeah I meant the patch that is supplied with Mahdi.
So the issue now has evolved to: I have TWRP, I can boot in just fine, and everything works fine..except download mode is broken. I don't even know where to start on how to fix that. Any ideas? Cause if it's stuck this way, I'm gonna have to be really damn careful with how I use this phone from now on.
Unfortunately idk **** about fixing download mode lol.

Its worth a shot I guess. Do a Backup then try flashing the aboot and then the patched kernel again. If it comes down to it haha

Again sorry for being super crap at this, but how exactly do I flash the .img? I noticed in the freegee folder there's a "revert aboot" zip but it fails to flash (some binary installer issue), even with using 2.6.3.4 which should fix installer issues.
You probably have to push it somewhere via adb. Im pretty crap at this stuff too so don't worry.

I do have a couple of questions:
1) When I revert to stock am I returing to the state when I bought my phone thus jellybean so I will be able to upgrade to 4.4.2 with custom recovery ?
2) Am I than able to restore my nandroid back up of the previous ROM?
AS I STILL HAVE TWRP:
1) Would it not be easier to transfer the roms and files needed from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681205
and just flash them in the same proces?
2) Would it not be easier to just flash another custom rom like pacman or paradroid using ADB Sideload, as I read in many cases that flash tool stops during the process ?

You can restore to stock 4.2 or 4.4 it's up to you and the kdz you download, if you restore to 4.2 after rooting and getting recovery you will be able to restore your previous nandroid, if you decide to go to 4.4 then root and recovery are available but to restore your 4.2 nandroid you would need to flash the in baseband too, it would be easier to and flash but that wouldn't get you out of recovery the moment the phone tried to ota it creates a dev block(temporary partion) which holds on to the ota file so that it can be installed/flashed the with the phones stock recovery and the only way to get rid of it is by flashing stock kdz

After steps 1.2/1.3/1.4 you choose either method 1 or 2, method 3 does everything that method 1/2 do without you having to do anything

I dit it ! It worked due to your instructions thank you so much !!
I could not get into Download mode because the phone kept rebooting, the trick is to keep on pressing the volume down and the middle button until the phone completely shuts down and does not reboot.
Try it this way.
Can you the best way to root my device so I can perfom a custom recovery with autorec?
