Nova launcher or customized rom? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How is the Nova launcher? Does it give a full experience of Google edition, or should I flash a customized Google edition rom? Thanks.

I like very much the nova launcher... You have a lot of themes and is very customizable... but in my opinion, always is good idea try other roms... for example, I change my rom every week or 2 weeks... but I always use nova

The thing is, I used to have HTC phones [One X and One] and I only know how to root and flash roms in HTC. I'm unfamiliar with LG's method, and I'm afraid to ruin it.

you have a step by step guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
With this howto is very easy, I'm very clumsy and I had no trouble being root and after root the way to change the roms is the same... install cmw or trpw and ready to work

android ui on kindle fire HD

Evening all, Just refering to the above thread as i have been directed here to post with being a noob! I have already successfully rooted my kindle hd by prokenxusa's guide. To be able to use an android interface'does my device need to have a pre installed custom rom? There has been no mention in the thread above.
Any advice is appreciated.
To get a more traditional Android UI on the KFHD, you'll need to install a 3rd party Launcher such a Go Launcher EX or Nova Launcher Prime, but check this out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069668

rivo06,
No need to install a Custom ROM. Our guides are built for a stock Kindle Fire HD, not for anything special. There
are many Launchers and Themes available, so you can install let's say Go Launcher, then add an Android Jelly
Bean Theme to Go Launcher.
FYI don't use NeXt Launcher at this point in time. Went through hell to get it removed after I installed it.
I re-wiped and used the guide from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 and used his launchers that were supplied. I recommend either Nova Launcher or Go Launcher. With some of the other I experienced some slowness.

CoB_Mike,
That is what we were saying - NEVER install Next Launcher. We remember your issue and post, how could we forget it.
We to recommend Nova, Apex or Go Launcher - all are well developed and well thought out. We are working with
the Go Launcher development team to solve the problem with Next Launcher. They plan to resolve the issue next
release - in about 3 weeks.

HKTheme doesnt support CM11 themes, you need to use CM10 themes... or themes designed for XTheme/HKTheme.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: Unless someone adds cm theme engine to stock rom then you cannot use them. But by doing this it stops becoming stock and becomes a custom rom, just like CM, AOKP etc.
The biggest part of cm themes is the ability to theme styles.xml, with out this your only getting half the theme (png's, some colours and a couple of other things depending on the theme). If your wanting to use cm11 themes to change your bootscreen, fonts and others then your getting even less of the theme overall as they dont work either.
You can port them to work with HKTheme (porting them to cm10 themes would be the easiest option). Even then its hit and miss whether they work or not.
You would ideally port them to XTheme to reduce the risk of HKTheme incompatibility issues.
Even then... you could only use flux for personal use as it's a paid app.
CM has actually improved a LOT since the last time i used it (2 years ago).
It use to feel like a heavily customized and bloated AOSP rom, now it feels like it's an AOSP rom with added features. Things are a lot better integrated these days.
I avoided it like the plague, now I dual boot it on my nook and it runs very well.
Hope this helps.:good:

Gapps: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
Download both and place them on your phone or the sd card. Boot into twrp/cwm and factory reset. Flash CM, then gapps. Boot up and you're done.

Sure, you can do a nandroid within cwn/twrp but once you flash something, Knox will forever be broken.
Be aware, the cyanogen ROM is a heavily modified ROM based only on kitkat which bares little resemblance to a pure google kit kat rom the likes of what you would find on a nexus device.
..
When I go to xtrestrolite I can see on the first page, images 4 and 5 that it still have the touchwiz design and color.
I want, when I drag down the notification bar and all the main setting that it look like nexus style.

Use a custom launcher and icon pack to change that I`am using XtreStoLite myself and i can recommend it to anybody, very fluid, fast and lots of usefull features. Or flash a theme from the Apps and Theme thread.
I tried with a Nova launcher. But I can not change the overall touchwiz design.

You need a Theme or custom rom for that. Why don`t you buy a Nexus device if that is what you want?

Because I like the specs and phone design by Samsung but not happy with the touchwiz design.
I could by a nexus. But very hard to change specs and phone design.

I think CM11 or any other AOSP/AOKP rom is whats best for you, look in the Unified Development thread and just try out some roms and keep the one you like most.

High maintenance? You seem resistant to making even a minimal effort here. Things that you want generally don't just materialize in front of you because you want them. The XtreStroLite is what you asked for. 99% TW removed and as close to Nexus as you can get without buying a Nexus. Which is probably what you should have done in the first place.
You're quibbling over minor aesthetic issues. And as gee suggested all you have to do is download a theme pack for Nova and the only way you could tell that you weren't holding a Nexus would be the bezel.

Dont know what you meen about not doing an affort, ??
I have tryed to install XtreStroLite and others, XtreStroLite, still have the Greenish "control" color and design, installing nova launcher do not change that.!
All im asking if i can make the main design NOT look like touchwiz, do not care about all the samsung apps, i can just hide them..
I do not what it to look like nexus!, i just want to remove the greenish touchwiz design..
CM11 has removed it perfectly, and made it black. But what i what is make it look like google's design greyish. Like nexus?
If i can not ask questing like that in here, then i do not know why the forum is here.

[Q] Widgets size problem

Good day everyon,
recentyl I reflashed my Nexus 7 2013 LTE from stacok kitkat 4.4.4 to Paranoid Android pa_deb-4.6-BETA6-20141103. Alotugh I am quite happy with that rom, there is one thing that bother me greatly. I will show you this on screenshots. Some widgtes f.ex. email are now a bit bigger , hence I cannot place for out them one screen, like I used to.
You can see in attachments what I used to have, and what I have now
Anyone can help with getting those widgets to be like sized as in stock kitkat?
best regards and help for any help in advance
Widgets are handled by the launcher, not the ROM
#stayparanoid
ok then , could you help me understanding how about changing the launcher to the one I had on a stock Kitkat? I am not rom modify magician

Well, the best way to do this, is of course by rooting your phone and installing any TW-based custom rom you like. Debloated, deodexed and including any samsung app you like to install during the aroma installation process.

You should try out resurrectionremix, which is real aosp. As for touchwiz, you can only use a custom launcher, a darker theme and install Google Apps, although that will be all you can change on touchwiz.

yeah i used rr but the camera is not as good this is my problem i know you can make shealth work now on aosp but the camera quality is just not as good thats why i want a dark theme for tw i have managed to remap buttons and get everything else now its just the theme
Regarding camera quality, you can use htc camera on AOSP roms. Ultra fast focus and great quality. The only problem is it crashes here and then..although o hadn't installed it for a while now. So it may be even more stable on newest nightlies. Otherwise it is the best.
Use Dual Boot Patcher app to install ResurrectionRemix in dual boot with your TW-based ROM. If you want to take good photos, reboot into the TW ROM, and for everything else, use RR ROM

There also are tutorials on XDA for this app, and it works perfectly
