How to Disable WiFi Power Save Mode
The WiFi Power Save Mode configuration of the Galaxy Note 2 is a hidden feature. This can only be accessed and turned off by performing the following steps:
1. Tap the Phone app.
2. Key in *#0011# in the dialler.
3. Hit the Menu button below the screen of the Galaxy Note 3
4. Select WiFi.
5. Tap the “WiFi Power Save Mode” button to Off.
Reminder
Turning off the WiFi Power Save Mode can help optimize the connectivity and performance of your device but it has the tendency to drain your battery faster. So, consider this tradeoff first before disabling it.

Than hou have to change the Title of the thread, is a little bit misleading.........
Maybe I should warn everybody, this will kill your battery within 24-36 hrs, even if you don't use your phone at all. I did try this setting, didn't do anything to my WiFi connection, but my battery had hard time to last me whole day with moderate use. It's a good thing I finally remember I changed that setting, because my battery life was beyond terrible. I can go 4-5 days without charging with light use, but this setting made it hard to last 1 day.YDMV
Unless I'm missing something, I don't get a wifi option. I guess that this isn't anything to do with which ROM?

I just noticed when holding down the power button there are a few options I've never seen before.
Power Off
Silent Mode
Save to Existing
Airplane Mode
2
I'm curious what the save to existing and "2" options are for.. any ideas?

hum, i have some options but not what you have....
Power Off
Silent mode
Vibration mode
Airplane mode

I'm curious if there's an app I installed that made these options come up... I'm on the fresh Rom if that helps

LOL, it's a rom that you've installed that made those come up, i'm wagering...
i think he got rid of the mobile network in that ROM, which explains the '2'. probably something similar going on with 'save to existing' (something pointing to mismatched address somewhere)
makes sense. thanks for the input
only one way to find out what they do!

The issue is caused if you flashed the Vanilla Lock Screen. Fresh states the issue on his site.
http://geekfor.me/evo/21/vanilla-lock-fix-for-evo/
Under the first paragraph.
Does anyone know how to disable this feature? Every time my screen goes blank, and I turn it back on, I have this icon in the top left hand corner with a red x through it saying "turn wifi off". I want my wifi to come back on when I unlock the device, but I forced to turn it off then back on. Extremely annoying...
I may be wrong but check in the settings/applications/ manage applications and you can delete it from there. I think its called wifi status.

Just go into wifi settings and pres menu and go into advanced and set the sleep policy to "never". It saves a lot of battery. That way it doesn't disconnect when the screen goes off, nd then you'll only see it when you really have no wifi

You want your Wi-Fi connection to be available when you unlock your screen. From your Home screen:
Hit the Menu button & then go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings
Hit the Menu button (again) and select Advanced
Set the Wi-Fi sleep policy to Never
That stops the Wi-Fi radio from sleeping when the screen is turned off. This will likely solve your issue.
tried that. still there looking me in the face mocking me.... lol
What kernel are you using? Apparently this is an issue with Xtreme kernel.
may very well be. It was happening in 1.1, and now I have 1.2 (xtreme kernel) on syndicate rom.

You can remove wifi status using these steps. I do it every flash.

This is a known bug with xtreme kernel. The wifi goes to sleep with the screen off even with it set to never. Semi sporadic, and worse on 1.0.2 than 1.0.1 in my experience.
I tried a couple of apps or widgets for airplane mode, but for some reason I couldn't even get them working. Could someone recommend a good app/ toggle / widget?
Also is there any app or widget to turn off the N4 cellular signal receiver?

long press the power button?
^this, or pull down the notification centre with two fingers.
Did you try Widgetsoid?
I do the "Power Button" for Airplane Mode.
For Mobile Data:
Widgets > Settings shortcut > Data usage
When you open it, you can turn on and off Mobile data, and still use WiFi and receive calls and SMS messages.
Didn't Google prevent non root apps from activating/deactivating airplane mode with Android 4.2? I just use Tasker with the secure settings plugin
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I really appreciate it...
I still haven't found one app that would allow me to put a toggle on the home screen so that with one touch I can turn off or on the airplane mode. It seems all the suggestions require two or more touches?
Is there any toggle that with one touch on the home screen I can turn off/on the whole mobile network (not just data but also calls/messages) with wifi remaining on? I can't believe such a thing doesn't exist!
Try "Widgetsoid" or "Extended Controls". Been using them heavily before and they work pretty well. Although I havent tried recently since I went with a minimalist home screen.
Try power toggles.. U can add a lot of new ones in settings

Am I the only one wondering why he thinks having to do 2 touches actually is a problem?

thanks for your opinion. OK, not a big deal with two touches for the airplane mode. Care to share your experience regarding the following question?
Is there any app with which one can turn off/on the whole mobile network (not just data but also calls/messages) with wifi remaining on, regardless how many touches involved?

I use power toggles and the airplane toggle is not a true toggle. It takes you to the menu.

My Nexus 4 shows the same thing unless I actually turn off the wifi. I just leave my wifi on so when I come home it auto connects.
Weird minesays the same. I had my wifi off for at least 5hours

You have to go into WiFi settings and select one of the other features in advanced settings
TWEAKED 2.5
Because your WiFi radio keeps actively searching for an active signal unless you turn it off.

I believe the option in the advanced settings is "Scanning always available". If you turn that option off it should stop.

Simple, because the WiFi radio is on.
I have found WiFi battery usage to be very odd on the Note, at least Note 1. I used to have it turn off on screen off (settings default), but that caused battery drain. I then used Llama (Location Aware Mobile App?) to turn it off when the screen was off after a minute. Still drained.
I eventually left it on all the time I was at home or work, and it was much, much better. I guess going on and off all the time was the drag, or caused another issue.
I then used Llama to turn it off whenever I leave home or work, and turn it back on when I arrive. Happiness achieved.
I just drag down the notification bar and hit the toggle. One less active app to hog memory and battery...
Then again I also turn off mobile data when it is not needed. That spares me a full 4 days, and that's just on the s3. Imagine how long a note3 would last... (I'll know when my order finally arrives...)

One factory reset may help:
Make a SD Internal Memory Backup
From your home screen press the apps icon in the lower right corner.
Find and press the settings icon.
In the upper end of the screen press the accounts tab.
In the bottom of the next screen press the Backup and reset button.
Press the factory data reset.
Read the info on your cell phone screen and hit Reset device.
