[Q] Does "aboot" partition exist on the xt907? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I may have formatted it from Philz recovery. Any way to get it back? Was it there in the first place? Why is the option in available from philz?
It is not in these xml/fxz: 404 or 412-94, but I did not check them all.
Edit: aboot not in any fxz. Yet on our phone http://batakang.com/XT907.php

Install Recovery and CM on Locked I9500

Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this as I'm relatively new to posting on XDA. My girlfriend has a Galaxy S4 (I337) that I quickly and easily installed Cyanogenmod on. It's awesome and significantly better than TouchWiz. So, I bought an S4 off Ebay assuming it would be similar enough. It turns out this new S4 is an I9500 and before shipping it was updated to 4.3, which appears to lock the bootloader and prevent downgrading. I've tried Odin, Heimdall, ADB, Philz, Chainfire, Cofface, stock ROMs, etc with no luck. Today I did manage to root the phone and confirm root with TowelRoot. I'm wondering/hoping someone might have some resources to get CM on this thing. While I'd prefer not to brick it I am willing to take risks as I have a Razr (soft-bricked and unbricked) running CM and am relatively comfortable with computers/Linux.
I've been Googling and trying things for a month now and can't even find that much information on the locked bootloader. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The I9500 doesn't have a locked bootloader. You just can't downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2.2 with official roms. Same applies when you are running 4.4, then you also can't downgrade officially.
Just flash a custom recovery true Odin and flash away.
Why would you even want to downgrade? Are you sure you are picking the right files? You cant flash the files for the I337 on the I9500. So just go to the section for the I9500 roms and flash away.
Hi Lennyz1988,
Thanks for the quick reply. I don't specifically want to downgrade but that's the last option I've tried. Ultimately the goal is to put Cyanogenmod on the phone. When I attempt to upload any file via Odin I get "secure magiccode check fail : boot" (or fail : recovery) depending on what I'm flashing. All the reading I've done says that when these phones are updated to 4.3 a fix has been applied that stops Odin from working. Thus, I my last resort is/was to try and downgrade. As I said, I've been Googling for the last month and while few people have posted about this I have not found any solutions.
Hoping someone might have a solution or anything new to try that I haven't tried already, thanks again,

Download the latest TWRP recovery:
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/i9500
Fire it up in Odin under PDA. You need the .tar (DON'T EXTRACT IT).
If it fails:
- Different usb port
- Different cable
- Different pc
- Reinstall drivers
- Make sure Kies is not running the background.
Or you can use heimdall to flash it. Use the command line though:
heimdall flash --recovery nameoftherecovery.img (you need the .img instead of the .tar)
No luck there, Odin still fails with the same message. I have tried Heimdall on 2 different computers (4 different usb cables) and always get the libusb 12 error.
Since I have root access I figured I might be able to wipe the recovery partition from a terminal emulator. I copied recovery.img from the I9500 CWM to the internal sd card. I then went to /dev/block/msm_sdcc.1/by-name to figure out what partition is recovery, turns out its 21. I then did “dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21”. I then booted into recovery and it just hung up. I had previously found a stock recovery partition so I flashed that via Odin (the only file I have found that works flashing via Odin). I could then boot back into the normal recovery. I then tried flashing both recovery and cache with the CF Auto files (cache is partition 18). Same result, it just hangs when trying to boot into recovery. At one point I did manage to flash a recovery that then came up with a warning about “software installed that is not supported by AT&T” and I couldn’t get past that so had to flash the stock recovery again.
On a side note, I accidentally wiped the EFS partition in this process (if found a tutorial that shows the S3 had recovery in partition 10, which is EFS on the S4). As a result 1.) the menu didn’t pop up when I hit the power button and 2.) wifi didn’t work. So, I made an .img of the EFS partition on my GT-I337 and moved it to the I9500 and that worked restoring both. In case anyone makes the same mistake.
I have now also used CWM ROM Manager and GooManger and tried installing recovery that way with no luck.
Just check if the internal memory partitioning is correct ( number, size and format) (use fdisk or parsed).
ODIN will install according to the PIT file and if drivers and cables are OK it is no other explanation than that.
PS: do not trust heimdall data because it just read the PIT file and do not give the true info from the memory part.!
Uhm on the TWRP website they say that the I9500 has it on partition 10.....
This would be the proper partition based on their website:
mmcblk0p10
Are you absolutely sure you have an i9500? Because my guess is that you don't.....
Boot into download mode. What does it say your model is?
Because on the AT&T it's partition 21.... So my guess is that you are messing up....
Thanks everyone for the input/feedback,
Something I think I had forgotten to mention previously, when the initial root/recovery attempts didn't work I downloaded an app to verify it is a genuine Samsung as I have heard of very good knock-offs. It is genuine according to the app.
Good point/catch regarding the location of the recovery partition. Under About Phone it shows as an I9500 and always has. When in download mode it currently shows as I337 but I wasn't sure if that was simply a result of all my attempts so I figured best to go with the one I am certain has been the same since I bought the phone. I had been hesitant to try wiping the recovery with for the I337 as that is how I soft-bricked my RazrHD (ultimately un-bricked it).
Tonight I will try the I337 files and see if Odin is successful. Thanks again.
Damn! Turns out my phone is an I337. The hardward (under the battery) says I9500 and when I plug it into a computer it shows up as I9500. On the weekend I thought I read that there is now the ability to flash recovery and install CyanogenMod on I337 if its updated to 4.4.2. So, I donwloaded the firmware and flashed with Odin. It flashed successfully but now I realize I am mistaken and 1.) cannot flash recovery, and 2.) cannot downgrade. For the time being I have installed Nova Launcher and removed as much of TouchWiz as possible. It's not perfect but at least usable. I'd like to start researching what it would take to flash recovery on this phone but I suspect I'm too busy at this moment.
Thanks everyone for the help,

41.18 bootloader restoring 4.4.2 gpt.bin to flash CM12 nightlies after gpe convert

FIRST THING FIRST, THIS IS DANGEROUS. DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Myself and one other person have successfully done this. If you have success as well, please post here. What you DO NOT want to flash, and is the cause of bricks is motoboot.img that is older than what you have now. Just dont mess with it.
What you can do, is flash gpt.bin to get the partition tables re-partitioned to get you back to be able to flash roms from CWM, TWRP, Philz, etc.
That being said, this is my PERSONAL experience, and am only sharing because it got me out of GPE lollipop hell, and I was terrified of the bricks, like everyone else. I will attempt to be more clear in my OP.
I have an XT1034 that I converted to GPE to flash 5.0 Lollipop OTA and it gave me the new bootloader 41.18. I couldnt get to CM12 due to Status 7, and I could only flash 4.4.4 stock, lollipop stock, or CM11, any flashing to CM12 always gave errors about Status 7. Others have reported not being able to wipe /data or /system or mount either in any recovery. The problem is the updated partition table and here is the solution:
IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THIS DIRECTION YOU WILL HARD BRICK. DO NOT RUN THE BATCH FILE IN THE DOWNLOAD. IT CONTAINS 4.4.2 motoboot.img and YOU WILL BRICK. ONLY RUN THE COMMANDS LISTED BELOW!!!
ALSO DO NOT use an older gpt.bin, it must be 4.4.2 or newer!! Use the link below to get a 4.4.2 XT1034 stock rom.)
I flashed a 4.4.2 GPT.bin from this: US_retail_XT1034_KXB20.9-1.8-1.4_CFC.xml.zip (http://motofirmware.com/files/getdow...-14-cfcxmlzip/)
If you want to try the same thing, you can extract gpt.bin from the zip and run this: (ONLY!!)
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
then download philz here: http://fs1.d-h.st/download/00145/DEw...8.7-falcon.img
rename to philz.img
fastboot flash recovery philz.img
Hold vol - and power, to reboot into recovery, then
format /system
format /data
Download the latest nightlies and gapps and push them like this:
adb push cm-10-10-1000.zip /data/media/0
Reboot into recovery, and flash cm12 and gapps.
Marcus Lemonis!
I thought it had been established flashing the KitKat Partiton Table (gpt.bin) was the cause of downgrade hard-bricking.
It would appear the 4.4.4 Partition Table is specifically the cause.
People have been hard-bricking (now have to wait for full firmware images to fix) - because they flashed the 4.4.2 image and then applied the 4.4.4 OTA Update.
Perhaps you should mention that in OP.
I don't think a gpt.bin "4.4.2 or newer" is wise advice. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It is possible to flash 4.4.4 gpt bin, bit it's not possible to OTA update to 4.4.4 from 4.4.2.

Exactly.
It's the same if you want come back from GPe to Retail Motorola STOCK, you need change GPe-partitions to Motorola-Partitions. There are some differents between both partitions:
GPE
Code:
'cache' -> 560,00 Mb
'system' -> 840,00 Mb
Motorola
Code:
'cache' -> 662,13 Mb
'system' -> 976,00 Mb
There is a partition with 2,28 Mb: In GPe is called 'metadata'; and in Motorola is Called 'padA'.
And there is a partition en GPE with 6,13 Mb called 'padC', but in Motorola didn't exists.
Any way, if you downgrade from LP, you don't must flash BL (motoboot.img), or you'll have a pretty brick.
updated op, I shouldnt have tried to walk anyone through that last night, i couldnt even understand my own english, apologies.
I just don't understand why peoples push 4.4.2 into phones when there is "safer" 4.4.4 that works perfectly and you must be retarded to brick phone when flashing 4.4.4 and doing anything after it. I will say for sure that 80% of hard bricks are caused by 4.4.2 android and updating to 4.4.4(which makes no sense at all) or doing anything after 4.4.2. Just. Stop. Doing. That.
Flash everything from last KITKAT except motoboot and everything will be fine.
how can I know my current bootloader version ?
P.s : ok sorry got it... it is in the bootloader mode (41.13)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3002572
Tell me where to find the 4.4.4 stock xt1034 and I'll link it. My process works. No bricks. Sbf.droid developers is down, send me the 4.4.4 and I'll link it. It is not 4.4.2 causing bricks, it is 4.3!
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Free mobile app
The link is not able to be verified where that gpt.bin came from, that's why I linked the whole stock ROM and not just gpt.bin
Again, try it if you like, and if you don't, don't!
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Free mobile app
I am not suggesting that people flash the whole way back to 4. 4.2. I'm only saying that people need to flash the partition tables from 4.4.2 so then you can install recovery and move on to CM. Re read the op I tell you NOT to flash that rom, but to only update gpt.bin

Xt1032?
Do you think this will work for an XT1032 converted to GPE? I have been unable to flash any sort of custom recovery as of yet like it keeps on disappearing when I reboot the device and becoming stock recovery.

Are you flashing recovery from fastboot? If you use fastboot, try flashing the recovery and using the button combo to boot into recovery from fastboot.
Do you have the 41.18 bootloader?
I have an 8 GB Telus xt1032 that I converted to GPE. While on GPE 4.4.4, I mistakenly allowed the 5.01 OTA update to install. Needless to say, it hung at the boot screen and I could do nothing.
I booted back into bootloader and noticed that my bootloader was now 41.18. I downloaded the stock Telus 4.4.4 ROM and manually flashed everything except motoboot.img (this is the bootloader image and is older than 41.18) and the phone booted without issue. I then installed TWRP and can flash pretty much any custom ROM.
I've heard it's possible to flash CM12 over Lollipop 5.0.2 official firmware. It was from 3 sources that peoples did it without problems

It is possible but not on the GPE firmware. There are differences in the /system partition size and the update script doesn't expect this and hence the flashing fails.

No no I have the 41.18 bootloader as it's a full conversion.
To get around the boot screen hanging I fastboot flashed a gpt.bin. Cheers for the advice though

Finally!
It worked for me: UK Stock KK to GPE KK to GPE LP, on bootloader 41.18 and unable to flash CM12.
It didn't work exactly as you described, it only worked when I did teh following: flash stock v4.4.4 gbt.bin, reboot, flash philz, reboot to recovery, format system (unable to mount it otherwise), flash twrp, convert data from f2fs to ext4 (unable to mount it otherwise), format data, then install CM12, pagapps, and SU.
Thanks!
Does this downgrade the bootloader to 41.13? I'm on retail 4.4.4 with bootloader 41.18, tried flashing gpt.bin from 4.4.4 and it booted straight to bootloader with the message "fastboot reason: utag flash fail configured as fastboot", then I fixed it by flashing all the other files (except motoboot of course) However I'm still on 41.18..
I just want to get rid permanently of the ripple efect every time you reboot.
Motoboot.img is the bootloader file. Once on the 41.18 bootloader, you cannot flash an older bootloader.
The best method imo to flash custom ROMs on the 41.18 boot-loader is:
1) Flash the official Moto 5.0.2 firmwares for your respective devices
2) Flash the OFFICIAL TWRP 2.8.5.0
3) Wipe everything except internal storage. The first wipe will fail and the phone will reboot. Reboot again into the recovery and perform the wipe again. It will work this time.
4) Flash the ROM zip now.
PS: ADB sideload works for me but not MTP.

Backup my bootloader

Sorry guys this is maybe a dumb question but I cannot find a real reply to my doubts.
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 with old bootloader knox free xxubmf8. I would like to backup my bootloader just in case I would try to change it with some other still knox free BL, for testing reasons.
I made a backup with nandroid , choosing the boot partition during the backup. Is this enough?
Is there a way to create an Odin backup of the bootloader or somewhere where I could download this bootloader release alredy packed?
I have also downloaded the stock xxubmf8 firmware but I don't know which file inside the firmware to keep (probably aboot, sbl1, sbl2, sbl3, rpm and tz)
Many thanks!
I don't think you can. There is nothing different on a knox bootloader, other than knox itself.
Hey GDReaper, sorry for the late thanks! So I won't bother trying to change the bootloader.
Just in case you know and for my only knowledge, what does the nandroid backup when you choose to save the boot partition?
It will backup your kernel.

Partition Doesn't Exist

I'm coming across an error that I haven't seen before. when trying to flash TWRP recovery so I can flash the rom. "remote: partition doesn't exist". Anyone know what's causing it? I'm rooted through KingRoot, but regardless of what I try with flashing a recovery or unlocking the bootloader I keep getting the same error.
Edit: Forgot to mention Version and Firmware.. A500KL, WW Firmware.

Help before I break it....

Have S5 SM-G900F - 16GB with PhilZ Touch 6.26.2 and Clockworkmod V6.0.4.7
Was using XtreStoLite_ROM_v2.2_LP_XXU1BOD3 and Blaze.Kernel_ver15 that I installed through SD card and Recovery.
As my S7 has shipped (finally) I want the GF to have my old S5 but need THL (Thailand) system support (I.E. not just thai language but also on the system menus).
I downloaded what I thought was a ROM for this but at the end of Odin flash I had Bad EXT4 flash and on phone 'invalid ext image size is too big'
Reading through the thread someone stated you need the .PIT.
I have ALWAYS avoided these but tried the SM-G900F_pit_16GB file. Yes I need a slap, I know better.....
OK so here it is, I do not know if NAND is corrupt as I do not know the symptoms.
Also, if I only have a soft brick, what is the best approach for recovery / ROM flash ?
Do I always need to do it from SD card / Recovery using a .zip?
Current state of phone.
Seen in Odin.
Can go into download mode.
Can now go into Recovery mode after flashing philz_touch_6.26.2-klte.tar.md5 in Odin.
Reboot loop (obviously, not valid ROM on it now).
I am assuming all is good and it's not a BAD brick, but still have not had a successful flash.
Many thanks
Yes I don't have many posts because I have always searched and found answers, but this time I am a little unsure and don't want to royally screw it up.
Help is much appreciated.

Yeah!
I tried various and get EXT4 file size incorrect errors.
It was the .PIT incident that was lead from that error.
I have since re-acquired the original de-oxed ROM and flashed that from .zip on SDcard.
All good now, I just thank god I didn't screw it up with a .PIT file.
I was lucky! Leave them files for the DEV's and ignore posts that suggest getting a .PIT file and trying that for .EXT4 partition errors.
Reading posts later, chances are that your getting that error because you have the wrong ROM to flash, having a hidden partition in the ROM, from someone like the UK EE provider.
Hope you remembered to disable reactivation lock during first boot
The reason the ROM was removed in the first place...
