Was wondering if anyone would be able to rip the Camera apk off of the 4.4 update that rolled out for the D800 today. The AOSP one is pretty awful quality wise and would love to the use the LG one (will work with ART unlike the other 4.2 one currently on xda now).

I compared shots taken with the stock LG camera vs the stock jelly bean camera, and the results are dramatic. The LG camera wins hands down, so I'm just curious if AOSP roms would work with the LG camera.
Also, are we going to see custom kernels for this device?
Don't worry, you'll still be able to use your camera. However the stock LG camera app will probably be replaced with focal or something similar.

What he's asking is if we can still use lgs camera app... Because I agree aosp sucks...
Of the stock camera isn't reliant on the framework then yes.. Otherwise no

I doubt we will see a camera with all the options of the LG G2 stock app, but there will be options. Focal is one. Generally manufacturers apps don't make it into AOSP or CM roms, I think because they require other framework or files that aren't included in in the custom roms.
Look at the size of a CM rom, and then at an original rom, and you'll probably see a difference of 500MB+ (i.e. lots of proprietary files not there in AOSP or CM)
As for Kernels, I would think there will be some on the way. There are already a couple, so I'm sure more work will be done to increase the offering.

That makes sense, but it kind of sucks to lose the improvements that LG made. The options are one thing, but the difference in image quality is huge comparing it to AOSP camera .
Don't give up your hopes too soon, as you may already know there's alot of third party camera ported to work with all device including those that uses AOSP roms in Android Apps section.. And they usually comes with their proprietary libs/so to make their functions work..
Although none of them are 100% perfect as they're not intended to be used on other device in the first place, LG cam should work better on LG devices.. Time will tell..
costum kernel will be available soon after the devs gets their hands dirty on the SD800 SoC..
i'm interested about porting the moto x always listening feature to the G2, as the latter has the chip to do so..
I wanted to see what the best LG G2 camera port for a AOSP 4.4 Kit Kat?
As a side note I was thinking of using the Paranoid 4.4 Kit Kat AOSP, and maybe CM11 when it comes out.
I wanted to upgrade my LG G2 to one of the 4.4 AOSP's but still try to have most of the G2 camera functionality.
Any help would be appreciated!

I've tested out several great camera apps on my g2 and only the stock camera app to take advantage of the G2's excellent low light capture ability.

I love the pure Google experience but internal memory and battery capacity of Nexus 5 is just killing me. I would go for G2, but I heard it struggles with poor internal memory performance. Can anyone confirm it with KK onboard? My N5 is .84 rw. Which one has better community support? I would probably flash cm/omni. And Im considering 16GB Z1 vs 32GB G2. I like the feeling of N5, and that's why Im a bit scared of Z1 huge frame, but stable and fully functional pure Google is the most important for me.
The lg g2 is the same hardware as the nexus 5 and it has worse support lg doesn't know how to make things without bugs and I don't know if I would go with Sony they are having financial problems maybe try a gpe galaxy s4 stock android easy bootloader unlock and easy to root and you get the latest from Google pretty quickly

I cant get S4 GPE in Poland, also S4 wakeup time is unacceptable for me.

What a bunch of crap, of all the brands I've used LG has been the best after the nexus line

This is my opinion it may be a bunch of crap from your point of view I'm just saying that although my galaxy s4 was a knoxed down piece of crap Samsung actually knows how to make things work properly I do not agree with Samsung's lock down everything so I switched to the g2 I have never had such a buggy experience on a stock ROM

If I were you I would wait for the HTC m8 looks like it might have nice hardware and hopefully it will be rootable who knows I've heard nexus 5 battery life not very good it must be software my g2 gets 2 days with mild to lite usage but if you get a g2 it might not be rootable depends whether it comes with kitkat but but you may not want to root

I have two days to decide What do you mean by saying "unrootable"? Do LG G2 with KK have locked bootloader / recovery or it's just a matter of time?

I believe LG G2 has a locked bootloader and the KK update just patched something that allowed us to install a custom recovery.

I've actually found that the internal memory on the G2 is incredibly fast. Especially if you flash roms/kernels. It flashes so fast that the first time I flashed a big rom like rooted stock (1.7GB zip size) that I thought something went wrong and it failed. Install furnace kernel and set the readahead to 1MB and I doubt you'll see faster nand flash memory in any other phone out there.

I think you must buy G2 if you feeling of N5. Anyway, Z1 is good looking but if you want to buy Z1 wait for Z2
Hi everyone. I'm a lucky owner of LG G2 that I bought unlocked (but branded with AT&T) for absolutely amazing price of $200. As soon as I bought (long time ago) I flashed ParanoidAndroid alpha lollipop build and still using it up today. Well what I can say - experience of stock lollipop is amazing, especially on g2 hardware, everything work smooth and pretty stable. But still it coud be better still. Sometimes I getting a lags, sometimes touch screen dies and I have to reebot it, plus camera app could be better as well as rear led isn't working. For mms have to use external app, and some bugs like that...
As we know on April 15 At&t released official lollipop update for our device. I tried it on another lg g2. From one side I was dissapointed the way thye build it (no flashlight, too many unneeded apps, non stock look), but from other side - everything on the hardware side works great, mms and rear led is supported. So I'm looking at the lollipop roms availoable for download, and there is none meet my criteria. So my question is - are there any plans on building a new rom, that will be based on stock at&t firmware, but tweaked and with a stock android theme? Would be nice to have something that I have with paranoid rom, but more stable and supported all features. Thanks in advanve.
Hi everybody. I was planning to replace my Nexsu 4 with an LG G2, and since I really like the pure android I will be (probably!) flashing CM on it. Now I am new to this world so please be gentle with me I want to know a few things:
1) Is the UI on LG G2 sluggish and slow? especially after installing apps?
2) Is the stable version of CM for LG G2 (I guess it is CM12 right now) bug free? (I have heard stories about battery drain and stuff with CM12).
3) Is the stock Lollipop stable? Do you recommend I upgrade OTA from KK to LP?
Thanks!
I came from Nexus 4 to G2 6 months ago.
1) LG UI is fast on 4.4.2, and about 20% slower (MY opinion) on 5.0.2 because 5.0.2 sucks :/ (5.0.2 was slow on my old Nexus 4)
2) CM is not 100% stable, if i recall correctly there are minor bugs that occur from time to time, lag in Google Play Music, DT2W works a bit worse than LG roms, also Camera is a bit worse than LG rom
3) Stock Lollipop is stable, you can OTA if your network carrier has the update (if not you will have to use LG PC Suite or flash KDZ image)
If you REALLY need stock Android you should get Nexus 5. I chose G2 because I was so mad after having Nexus 4 camera and audio playback quality, i simply refused to get Nexus 5. G2 has amazing sound (HD sound driver) especially if you have 50EUR+ headphones and a great camera
Also its questionable when and will G2 get official 5.1.1 or 6.0, the G3 only 2-3 weeks ago got 5.1.1
Thanks a lot! You answered all my question. Let me ask you a few more since you are the right person First of all, my Nexus 4 is amazing and works perfectly. My only complain (just like you) would be the camera (I only listen to audiobooks, so audio quality is not really an issue for me). Also I thought the battery on the G2 is above average (correct me if I am wrong).
1) How would you compare the G2 UI (4.4.2) with Nexus 4 (on 5.1.1)? Is it the same speed or you feel a lag?
2) When you say camera on CM12 is not as good as stock rom, do you mean the camera features? cause I know that the G2 camera has many features. Or you mean like the image quality with the same settings on the stock is better that CM?
3) In general, if you would choose again, now that you know how is the quality of Nexus 5, would you choose it against G2?
I was thinking of getting the N5 too, but the camera and the battery life on the G2 are tempting honestly. I am ok with 4.4.2 and I will stay on that if I think it performs better than 5.0.2. I think I will avoid CM though since I am afraid the headache does not worth it for me.
UI of G2 is not slow, it is pretty fast also on Lollipop. Only issue with official lollipop is memory leak.. You have to restart your device every day or you will suffer from launcher redraws.
Battery life on CM is worse than on stock. Also quality of photos is lower + G2 doesnt support Camera2 API so you don't have any advanced camera features on CM.
LG G2 offers GREAT performance for price, it has much better hardware than Nexus 5 but I still prefer Nexus 5 because of the software.

1) G2 UI (4.4.2) is as fast as Nexus 4 on 5.1.1. However, G2 UI at 4.4.2 has no material design. You can check it on youtube
2) The latest CM12.1 (not CM12) has a better camera, but yeah less features, and the pics are sometimes blurry (15% chance).
3) Ahh, I don't know, i really want 6.0 from Nexus 5, but N5 has a worse screen, only 2300mah, 8mp camera......i would get a G2, but this time in black color
Thank you guys! I will keep an eye on both G2 and N5. If G2 gets the update to 5.1.1 or 6.0 I will definitely go for it. If not, I have to decide which one to go, G2 or N5.
