TF101 Problem, kinda lost OS root?

Hoping for some help because I've ran into some really odd issues with SuperUser/root on my TF101.
I used the guide in the Dev Forum and flashed to Prime 1.4, everything was great and working well. I made a Nandroid of my base to fall back on.
ChainsDD updated SuperUser on 6/10 or 6/11 and I accepted the update from the market. When I launched SU, I was prompted to update the Binary, I granted SU root access and it said it completed. However, since then, no app that requires root has requested SU according to the log and Kernel Manager is telling me I don't have root.
If I open Terminal Emulator, it is automatically at a # rather than a $
In Root Explorer, tapping the Mount R/W button changes to R/O and I was able to successfully create and delete a test folder in /system
I need to get SuperUser functioning again, any thoughts or ideas?

What's a TF104 model device?

Um. you do know that # in terminal emulator indicates that the app currently has root access?
Open superuser, its being recognized as permanent root because you allowed it to have root access.
And its TF101 not TF104.

I'm not getting any of the notifications that SuperUser granted access, like I used to. Also, Kernel Manager isn't being granted Root access when I launch it
I think the SuperUser binary update failed, I got the binary from goo-inside.me and flashed it from CWM. Then I cleared the SuperUser app data and launched it. I was again prompted to update the binary version. It failed and prompted me to to flash a zip that it downloaded to my SD card. That zip is a 0kb file.

Try downloading superuser from the market.

Same results
Also, Superuser is now randomly Force Closing on launch.

Talked with ChainsDD, it's a problem with how he compiled Super User for honeycomb. Fix will be released tomorrow.

Understanding Root

Now I am a very avid linux user (used the terminal a time or two) and I bought an acer a500 yesterday. This is my first android device and the first 2 things I did were update it and root it with iconia-root1.3 (gingerbreak didn't work). Now I have 3.1 and the root checker says that I have root. And the busybox installer says I have busybox installed.
Now this is where I get lost...
The root checker says I have root but not /system/bin/su or /sbin/su. Why would I have root if I don't have the application to switch users? Also it has su in /system/xbin but it won't let me move anything to /system/bin (which I assumed I could do as root??). So is root checker giving a false positive or what? and why can't I move any files above the directory /mnt (I'm using astro)? Do I have to selectively give certain apps root or what?
Also I need someone to explain this to me. Why do we need to root it if all of the applications are already in the android marketplace? Do they allow applications to be uploaded to the marketplace that won't work on non-rooted devices?? That seems like there would be a separate marketplace for rooted-only apps like cydia on iOS.

A quick reply: 'Root' allows you to have read/write access on /system/ . After root, you can add/remove any apps in /system/app, also, after root, you can flash CWM, you can then flash custom rom and kernel ... bla bla bla ~
Root is somehow different from 'jailbreak' in iOS. I think you could find more information on google. Cheers.

Root doesn't give you superuser(root user) access? I had always assumed that was the case, which means you can do any damn thing you please. Obviously you can't write to ro filesystems, but you could always remount them.

1.) The root app is in /system/app/ and the binary is in /system/xbin/ so you do have root.
2.) You won't be able to just write to any of those folders. You either have to remount them to be writable and use adb or use an app like root explorer that lets you remount on the fly and edit the files.
The same answer goes for the question why can't you move files to anything above /mnt. And yes to the second question. You'll have to set root permissions selectively.
Root doesn't have any effect on the marketplace or the apps you can download. This is not an iDevice.
Some apps need root to work (usually the ones that change system files) and that's why you have to have root. It's not necessary unless you either change system files or use an app that requires it (screen-shot apps, adfree,some file managers, reboot apps,...).
It's early so apologies for any mistakes I made. I hope that it's a little clearer now.

If your like me and you have had some problems with android market on your Kindle Fire (yes,I got one for christmas and its already rooted ) by following a guide with Vending.apk and though you can browse the market, it is stuck on Starting Download, I have found a solution to the problem... All you need to do is get a new file:bit.ly/tlWjSn
This file is simply an updated version to the Vendor.apk other tutorials provide.
All you do is the following(presuming you have rooted, got root explorer and GO launcher):
1.Copy the file to kindle at an easy to access location.
2.Long-Hold the file and tap move.
3.Navigate to / then system then app.
4.Set it to R/W mount (top left)
5.Paste the file.
6.Set the permissions like all other files(tick first 2 in first row, first 1 in second row and first 1 in third row then tap ok)
7.Reboot the device
8.Go onto GO launcher and add it to the screen (tap the list thing bottom middle of the screen,then tap Add. then select Application followed by Market)
9.Done! Enjoy!

Market stopped working after the latest Kindle update. After I re-rooted, I tried re-installing vender.apk, but it still crashes upon launching it. Also, I am running Go Launcher EX.
When I browse folders while connected to a computer (using Win7), the system folder is hidden.
I never installed Root Explorer on the Fire. Is there a way for me to download and install it directly, or will I need to side load it? I assume if it's in the Market I'll need to side load.

Unfortunately you will as far as I know, but for $3.99, it is VERY useful when rooting or installing app's. market.android.com/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en

Hello guys, I have a little question related to market app that maybe has been already answered so I won't start a new thread.
I have my KF with 6.2.1 rooted and with the full android market installed (EX launcher and so on).
Usually the market works fine, but I always get errors ( process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly) and consequent force closes even if I can download stuff and apps. Basically, it happens whenever the market takes an action.
Is it a known issue or ir it "normal" ?

For me, I am having problems copying the Vending.apk to /system/app folder. I follow the steps in that tutorial but when I paste the.apk in the folder nothing happens. Help??
Got it rooted last night, and I'm using file expert since my cheap ass doesn't want to buy root explorer.

I'm afraid that without Root Explorer you can't change the /system/app folder permissions from R/O to R/W, therefore you can't paste anything in that folder.

File expert gives you that option too though.

if ur rooted but it wont paste or read and write in root explorer then ur su wasnt pushed properly in ur root process! When i rooted my kindle i deleted my old su and did the whole root process from scratch when i got the new root process. The whole thing went smooth and su showed up in apps when done but it wasnt totally rooted as i couldnt read or write in root explorer. Jcase told me that when the adb command for pushing the su wasnt done right thats what happens. he fixed it for me, great guy.

[Q] Stopping the OTA update??

My girlfriend has an S4 that I rooted and bootloader unlocked when she got it. This is her first Android phone - finally got her off the iPhone!! I want to block the OTA so I can still have my own fun with it. I know I could use an app, e.g., titanium backup or some other app, to freeze the OTA. But she just switched banks and doesn't have a card yet in order to purchase apps through the play store and I havent found an app that will do it for free.
Wondering if I can just rename the apks responsible for pushing the OTA with a root level access file manager without screwing anything up??
Saw somewhere to freezeI, I think: AT&Tupdate, FWupdate, and LocalFOTA.apk's.
Also saw on ScottsROMS site to rename: wssyncmldm.apk
Can I just rename all of these to '.......apk.bak' without any problem? What ones do I actually need to do something to??

Just run a custom ROM. I'm sure they all have the OTA update disabled.

Must be rooted!
Must have a root level file manager. I prefer ES File Explorer
Instuctions
Start root explorer app
Mount /system as read/write
Navigate to /system/app/
Rename wssyncmldm.apk -> wssyncmldm.apk.bak
Reboot

Titanium backup not working on 6.0.1

I can't delete any system apps with it anymore, does anybody else have the same problem or even a fix for it?

Working fine on 6.01 for me, Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling it?

I just updated to 6.0.1 myself, rooted using superSU 2.61. I too cannot delete system apps using titanium. I tried to uninstalled and reinstall the app (via playstore) but it didn't help.
I also tried to do the same via the root explorer option in ES file explorer and it didn't work. I tried to toggle the root explorer option in ES, but after I turned it off I couldn't turn it on again. Root checker does say that I have root, and other root apps e.g. adaway, xprivacy still work.
Any help and suggestion is most welcome!

Some people still want to recover the space.
With systemless root you will need to modify the system in TWRP to get titanium and ES working correctly.
It's as simple as going into TWRP and mounting the system R/W.
You then need to open the terminal in the following places:
/system/bin and execute "touch su"
/system/xbin and execute "touch su"
This will create zero byte files for SuperSu to come along and swap/link to on boot so that ES and TiBu can ask for root and get it.
They will then operate as you expect.; with the caveat that you are on your own when you start tinkering and may break something.

Pretty sure you lose Android Pay with this method though, just FYI if you care about that.

But if you are running Xposed you broke it anyway. There is a way to get it working.
You will need to remove the empty su files you just created to be able to add cards.
You will need to use a Xposed module to hide modifications to the system so that the device check comes back clean.
It's a pain, but if you want Xposed, TiBu, ES and Android Pay, that is the price.
