[Q] Not receiving KitKat update, help - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I have a Galaxy Note 3 SM -9005 not branded
and I'm still not receiving the update via OTA. I also tried Kies but that didn't help me. Does someone know how to get the update without flashing?
I'm in Germany and the KitKat update is already available (since one month now)
PS. Knox counter is 0x0

If you were rooted, then dat would explain why you didn't get OTA notification.
But anyways, as far as I know, only VD2 - Vodafone, VIA - O2 and DTM - Tmobile are available for Germany now and unless your phone belongs to one of these categories or should i say regions, then maybe you shouldn't actually get KK officially yet. Dial *#1234# to check.
And even if you fall into one of the above, you can still jst flash it in ODIN, Kn0x should stay at 0x0 as long as you do not root.
Cheers.

As far as I know the update should already be available, is getting March by now. I'm with O2. But anyway thanks for your reply

Have O2 actually pushed the update? OR are you referring to the Unbranded Kitkat that has been pushed? -- cause both are very different. - Also If O2 is anything like it is in the UK they're slow as hell to push out updates. Often last and very late.

I have a unbranded Note 3, but I'm using a O2 Sim card. I was referring to the unbranded update but I think since I'm using O2 it's recognized as a O2 phone, even in play store it shows my Note 3 as: O2 SM -9005

It should still register as an unbranded model due to your firmware. -- Mine is unbranded also and in play store I have O2 Appspace / O2 SM-N9005 like you. - Could try grabbing the actual unbranded ROM from Sammobile and flash it via Odin.

DBT unbranded just confirmed now.

Yep, update started here too

Lol. That escalated quickly!

just got an s4 i9505 help unbranding

Hi guys just recieved my s4 today in the uk.
Its locked 2 three i dont like it branded.
can anyone tell me which firmware i should flash to
sim free version uk
And the newest 1 plz
Tbh don't bother unbranding it, if you want updates quick then your better off staying with the 3 firmware you have already got installed.
Updates on Simfree are painfully slow, compared to the networks we are still waiting for the update that 3 got a month ago.
If you still want to go ahead and unbrand your S4 then there are guides on here to help you do it, first of all though before you can install a unbranded firmware, I think you gonna need to have to unlock it first before you can do anything else.
yea thats fine i know how to do all of that
i just would like to know which firmware i need for the UK simfree i9505 version just so i know im flashing the right 1

Firmware and 4g update

hi all.
i bought my note 3 from three uk in about oct. i flashed the stock samsung firmware which rid it of the three branding and should have opened it up to getting faster updates. it shows in kies as PDA:MJ7 PHONE:MJ7 CSC:MJ4 (H3G)
unless i'm mistaken, it is still showing some of the effects of being bought from Three, the (h3g) bit. will this stop me getting an update? it still says no software update available both on phone and via kies.
also, any idea when and how i should receive the 4g update as 4g is now in my area, birmingham?
thanks

I think you should wait for a bit. Although I can't get a full comprehensive reply from 3 in the UK I'm now being told a carrier update enables 4G and although it's available in some areas it's still rolling out. I'm in exactly the same position as you and updated my phone to the Polish rom in the thought that the LTE option would be available in the settings (it still isn't) and there's still an amount of confusion surrounding the whole process. I'm going to give up and wait till something concrete emerges. If you get anywhere with it I'd appreciate a pm or update and I'll return the favour if I do :good:

Thanks jdomadia. My handset is a sim free model, CSC united emirates flashed with Polish KK rom. I doubt I would see a benefit to flashing a branded 3 KK rom on my device?

No So far Poland firmware is problem free & stable so not advisable to unnecessarily flash another.
No problem.
Any idea on the 4.4.2 update?
Go to Settings-About phone-Software Update & check for OTA update, otherwise connect to Kies & try for H3G Kitkat is available now.
tried both those methods and neither allows update. both say latest firmware installed

i gave up waiting. i backed my data and factory reset to see if it helped. low and behold, the update that enabled 4g downloaded straight after the first boot and then 4.4.2 downloaded also.
good luck

[Q] G901F - future non-branded ROMS via OTA possible?

I would have posted this under the S5 'T-Mobile' section, but I think it might be more of a generic discussion.
I am considering in purchasing the S5 Plus (G901F). From what I can see right now, this is only available in Germany, UK and just about now, Netherlands. Problem is that it's exclusive to respective providers and therefore - "branded"
I can find it cheaper from Germany - which is subject to T-Mobile / Telekom (same thing?) branding.
I have asked the shop and they confirmed that the phone is factory unlocked to any provider/country and that there is no "hardware branding" on the phone. Meaning no stickers, no logos or anything else physically on the phone.
However, there is "software branding". Meaning the firmware itself and whatever bloatware the provider has put inside that ROM.
Now, I have read that I can use ODIN and find the least crapware-loaded ROM (from any country) and flash it *without* compromissing the knox bit. So far so good.
What I would like to know is that: What happens when finally Samsung releases a pure, non-branded ROM for the G901F? I can still use ODIN to flash - no problem. But what about future releases. I mean future non-branded firmwares. Would I be able to use OTA from that point on, or would I have to keep an eye and update via ODIN? Can someone please elaborate and explain this?
I get it - that's a 'newbie' type of question, but I would be really grateful towards some help here. All I can do for someone who will spend 2mins for writing a useful/accurate answer is say 'thanks'
Didn't find an exact answer to what I ask here, hence me writing this. Hope it's not a double-post!

Hi jstoner,
I think that while using an unbranded ROM would probably prevent you from receiving OTA's from your provider you would still be left wih the Samsung tool for getting new updates - Kies.
It has the options to check for updates and to flash them.
The geeky option is indeed to keep your eyes out for updates and fire up Odin
Disclaimer: I never used Kies to update my phone so I might be wrong here
Sent from my Android powered Tricorder
I forgot to mention - I live in Greece (but I m thinking of buying the phone from Germany, as it's not available here yet)
Does KIES list all ROMs from ALL regions/providers for a particular phone?

Nobody knows man. But you can always flash the newest updates via odin without triggering knox. After a few month only German Vodafone is building an update. T- mobil stii stuck on h5 firmware. So if there will be an unbranded oce ever ever ever.........you have odin
Wonder if that Greek ROM is unbranded or not
As for hardware branding, it seems that all G901F units sold in Germany under Telekom/T-Mobile have that "LTE+" at the back (also on the retail box). Instead, those EE (UK) units seem to have no hardware branding at all - it just has the "Samsung" logo at the back cover (and nothing on the retail box)

There are a few Providerapps inside. All Roms i tested for 901F has the normal Samsung Bootloaderscreener. No Provider startup. So nothing to worry about . Mine has also the LTE+ logo, but former T-Mobile Devices have also Coverbrands on it...Thanks God these not

[Q] Changing from Vodafone to non-branded 5.0.1/OTA

Hey everyone, I'm not necessarily new to the rooting/custom rom scene, I spent hours messing around with my Note 2, but I've got a quick question because I can't find a straight forward answer.
Basically I'm Australian and I own the SM-N910G variant of the phone, it's NOT locked and I have no logo on my boot screen. The 5.0.1 update for the 910G was released today, hazzah! But that's only on the non-carrier OTA, Vodafone has just stated "Failed testing, contacting Samsung" now due to both Vodafone AND Samsung being slow in nature, this could take weeks. I'm also SICK of Vodafone's bloatware and extreme delay with updates (over a year for the Note 2's 4.4.4), and I'm not willing to do any extreme modifying to this phone unlike my Note 2 because I'm still paying this phone off on my contract, last thing I need is to be left with a bricked or unsatisfactory phone when I'm still paying off.
Now for anyone who doesn't want to read all that,
MY QUESTION: Am I able to flash the stock SM-N910G 5.0.1, and change any future OTA's to be the ones straight from Samsung without voiding my warrenty or increasing my flash count or voiding my future OTA updates. And if I can, what's the best way to go about it?
Because I'm sick of waiting 6 months for Samsung to bring updates to Australia, then another 6 months for Vodafone to finish "testing" it.
Also I originally posted this in the wrong section, which I apologize for.
I upgraded to the indian 910g non branded 5.01 lollipop a week ago and had no problems whatsoever. My phone was unlocked and originally optus.
Debranding
I recently this something you want. I debranded my Note 4 taken from Orange România. My phone was locked and with a rom full of Orange blotware. I've downloaded the unbranded German rom, installed with Odin, and so far no problems. Knox counter it's 0x0, the new CSC it now the German unbranded. Nothing wrong happened. I don't know about carrier lock but I was not interested in that.
As long as it is the same model number there should be no problem. But carrier lock will still be there. Good luck

[Q] Possible to update to lollipop a rooted european note 3 without issues?

Hello
I have a Note 3 bought from amazon italy, but i am in the uk. I rooted it last year.
I'm in uk on the three network (but phone is not from three, its generic amazon italy phone). I checked the OTA software updates and my phone has a 893mb update file available for it.
1) Anyone know if it is a generic samsung update or is it a carrier update from 3 network?
2) Also will i brick it, if i update it, since i am rooted, or is it safe to do so?
3) And lastly anyone done it, and have any advice for me? Like if it has problems, should i avoid it, tuturial links or instructions etc.
thanks to anyone who can help me figure out if i should risk it.
regards
Don't do it bro
ITV Italy Unbranded was the first non-polish EU CSC to receive Lollipop.
Where you are and what network you are using is irrelevant to the OTA process. Updates are pushed from Samsung's servers based on a phone's CSC and IMEI. The provider has no relevance to the process. You will not receive a Three update on an ITV phone. You can even update over WiFi without a SIM.
Can you safely update without bricking: Yes.
Will you keep Root: No.
