Requesting help Formating Storage - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Decided to format / clean out my nexus 10 completely, and start over . given the number of recovery pathways I have. Only problem is that I have no idea how to do that. I have wugs, and there is nothing listed there...
chuckles.. It's not like I can do a traditional format x:
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Sorry for not answering the other thread! I was at school so I didn't have time to do it! To format your tablet wipe clean you have two ways. First is restoring it completely to Stock, I believe Wugs can do it. Other way is going to settings, then "Backup & Reset" and at last factory reset.
Hope this helps you .

OK, I'm doing the "back to stock" option, and will then do the root.
Settings: Nexus 10, Wi-Fi Tablet, Android 4.4.2 KOT49H

Working.. had use a combination of Wugs and CF auto-root, but have the storage back. I'm still perplexed as to the cause of the multiple / redundant pathways... Wonder if it started with the transition to 4.4..?

[Q] After flashing SmoothRom Version 5, Nexus 7 wont boot.

Hey.
i recently used TeamWin Recovery to flash SmoothRom version 5 but now i am having problems. I wiped both cache and system (userdata etc) and then flashed it. However. now my nexus 7 wont boot past the Google splash screen. I can still get to bootloader. Please help!
Simple - restore one of your many Nandroid backups.
You do make backups, don't you? If not, can you provide a single reason why you do not?
Normally you perform a "factory reset" in TWRP's wipe menu before you flash a ROM - that's it, no other "wipes" are needed. The ROM package installer will do the wiping of /system for you, and /cache barely matters at all. (Do NOT use the "format data" wipe in TWRP unless it is an extreme emergency - that deletes everything in /data INCLUDING the psuedo- SD card area stored under /data/media).
If you don't know whether it is your device or the ROM that is giving you fits, flash a different ROM. If it is hardware, most ROMs will fail.
BTW, when folks have bootloops or hangs on a given ROM that works for everybody else, it is usually because:
- they did a "dirty flash" (did not do a "factory reset" first), OR
- they flashed a kernel that was incompatible with the chosen ROM, OR
- they flashed a zip file that was incomplete and they failed to take notice of the error messages on-screen.
good luck
Thanks for your help. Yes I did backup my stock Rom beforehand and I have been able to restore it. I did all the steps you said but it still didn't work though. I will keep trying.

I actually didn't give any steps at all, other than suggesting that you restore a backup if you have one - I only outlined the areas that cause problems, so I don't really know what you attempted.
Are you saying that you can successfully restore a backup, and everything works for that restored backup, or that you tried flashing other ROMs, and they worked, but not your ROM of choice, or are you saying that you can't get the tablet to boot correctly no matter what you do?
I think you will find that the more precisely you describe what you attempted, and what you observed when attempting those things, the more likely that people will come out of the woodwork to help you.
The very worst thing you can say is "it didn't work" without any details - when you think about it, you will realize that is only a single binary bit of information.
Sorry for confusion. I managed to restore my stock ROM. Then I tried to flash smooth ROM again, (doing everything you said) but it still got stuck on the Google splash screen

Hi, Hicksy994...
When I flash a ROM I've never used before,... I do a COMPLETE WIPE...
(With Titanium backups done beforehand).
------
Here's how
Booting into TWRP 2.4.4.0... I first perform a NANDROID backup...
I then select the WIPE option; this gaves me the WIPE MENU.
By force of habit perhaps, I then hit THE FIRST THREE BUTTONS...
wipe CACHE
wipe DALVIK CACHE
FACTORY RESET- this button covers the first two, so mayhap they are redundant... but I press them anyway.
I then hit the SYSTEM button; (wipe system) - THIS WIPES YOUR CURRENT ROM -
- but WARNING!!! if you don't have a replacement ROM.ZIP to flash, currently stored on your internal storage... or a NANDROID backup to fall back on... you will have an unbootable device (unless you fastboot flash back to stock... or adb push from your computer).
But of course, if you have already have SmoothROM-v5.0.zip, in the /download folder, this shouldn't be a problem.
----------------------
So wipe everything - BUT ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TOUCH... OR WIPE.. EXTERNAL STORAGE, INTERNAL STORAGE OR FORMAT DATA - CONSIDER THOSE BUTTONS OFF LIMITS!!!.
These last three buttons, in TWRP, seemed to have cause no end of trouble for many - they should have been hidden away in some 'Advanced Option' setting... in my opinion.
----------------------
So to summarize...
In TWRP... (in the WIPE menu).
Factory Reset
Wipe SYSTEM - (clear out your current ROM, completely).
Then go to INSTALL... and flash the SmoothROM.zip
(there's quite an extensive installation procedure involved, requesting you choice of kernel, browser, etc)
Reboot... and you should be be good to go...
-----------------------
I flashed SmoothROM a couple of hours ago, using this method: seems kind of OK - only problem is... I can't seem to stop Google Backup from downloading and re-installing every bloody app I've ever installed since last November!.
But that's another story.. which I'm sure I'll figure out.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Firstly, thank you for your help. Unfortunately I followed your exact steps, went through the ROM set up (choose kernel etc) and it said successfully installed, so I hit reboot but it wouldn't boot past the Google screen.
Could the kernel I choose have anything to do with it, I haven't tried them all yet?

I suppose it could be a kernel issue... bit of a longshot though...
Stock AOKP kernel
Motley Build 249
Trinity 4.2.2 Alpha 1
Franco R47 (recommended
M-Kernel a38
LeanKernel v1.54 (recommended)
...which one did you chose? (I choose franco..)
Rgrds,
Ged.
Again, thanks for help, I tried a few such as motley but not the one you suggested. I will try again soon with that kernel.

Now tried with all available kernels as listed... no problems at all, booting beyond the Google logo.
Have you tried flashing any other ROMs? What happens?

Thanks for the info. I will try another ROM tomorrow and see what happens.

Nexus 4 Stuck on TWRP v2.6.3.0 With no Phone Access

Hi,
The other day I went in and checked some Cyanogenmod updates on my phone. I noticed some updates have been downloaded but not installed. So I went in and manually installed it. Before I proceed, there was a pop up reminding me about something. However, I did not pay attention to it and proceeded to install the update. Long story short - my phone has been stuck on the Team Win Recovery Project v2.6.3.0 with no way of getting back into having phone access.
I have tried looking up various ways of trying to get my phone access back. Some instructions require I plug in the usb - but then when I hit "Start", it tells me to plug in the phone first. Well my phone is plugged in! But since the phone now has no phone access, the pc does not recognize the device has been plugged in! So I am stuck in a catch-22 type of situation.
At this point, I just want to have my phone access back. Is there an easy way to get rid of the Cyanogenmod on the phone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I believe my phone has Jelly Bean 4.2.x on it (rooted with Cyanogenmod)
David.
If you have a Nandroid to revert to, use it. If not, just flash stock. If you don't know how to do that, just search Efrants guide in these forums.

Hi,
Thank you for your response. The closest I could find is a post by mrjraider (How to flash back to a Stock ROM!). However, any instructions I could find seems to require that I have phone access on my Nexus 4 - which put me, again, in a catch-22 - sine I do not have access to my phone, I have no way of doing any of them!
Please advise.
Regards.

Also download the latest image from Google.
Before you install the above mentioned software, go to the device manager and delete everything that says Android.
Install the software.
Boot into the bootloader. I'm assuming you can get there if you get into the recovery.
If everything is good, you should be able to use fastboot to flash the stock image. There's a switch - w that will be needed in order to not wipe your sdcard, but I HIGHLY suggest you read up on that elsewhere in the xda site, or Google it.
Good luck!

jd1639, your method seems to be the simplest (I was going to try Wugfresh, however, it requires my phone to be on debugging - phone access to which I do not have!). Please let me know where in TWRP where I can do a factory reset.
Thank you.

I am confused here you want to get your phone back up and running but you are worried about losing data. I see some pretty good suggestions in here and I hope they have helped but if not I believe better knowledge of how things work prior to flashing would of helped you out.
Now with that said and the links given have you simply tried to do a factory reset in TWRP and then push a rom over to your phone and flash it. Is your phone showing up when plugged into a pc while in recovery. Also flashing images would mean you would have to be in Fastboot mode. Now instructions on all of these methods have been created in xda. Take your time and research because its hard to mess up a Nexus and with a little time and following instructions everything will be ok.
good luck
Use Wugfresh Tookit to revert to full stock, search it on google
Hi playa,
I have to admit I never spent the time to acquire the needed knowledge in rooting an android. My original intention (in rooting the Nexus 4) was just to have the device rooted so that I can remove the bloat ware that came installed on the phone so that the battery will last better.
No, I have not done a factory reset in TWRP and pushed a rom over to my phone as I do not how to do either function. I see 8 blocks on my TWRP screen: "INSTALL", "WIPE", "BACKUP", "RESTORE", "MOUNT", "SETTINGS", "ADVANCED", and "REBOOT".
Which one should I click on for factory reset? And how do I "push a rom"? Where can I find fastboot mode?
No, when I plug my phone into my pc, it does not show up as "device detected".
Thank you.
p.s. I also tried the Wugfresh Toolkit to revert to full stock suggestion from alexcheveau, however, eventually, it asks me to put the device in debugging - which brings me full-cycle back to square one - I needed phone access to set it to debugging, however, I need to do a Wugfresh Toolkit full stock revert in order to have phone access......
Hi
To factory reset, its under wipe button

Hi all,
Just wanted to let all of you know I got the phone service back on my Nexus 4!:good:
I did the factory reset in twrp, then I did the adb sideload. It took quite a while (a couple hours actually).
I would like to thank every one who jumped in to help me out (and a big "Thank You" given to each of you). Again - Thank you all.
Strangely, when I tried to download Candy Crush, after installing, there is no "Open" button, and there is not a Candy Crush icon on the app page. A lot of Google apps do not react when I tried to download.
Thank you.

[Q] Nexus 10 32gb Storage issue

Alright, I got a Nexus 10 32gb. I could not root the device after an OTA update. The device just wouldn't root, so I re flashed the factory image. Now my 32gb Nexus 10 is now seen as a 16gb. I've been using it as is for the last few weeks. Afraid to re flash it and cut my storage in half again .
So anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Will re flashing through fastboot fix this problem?
Thank you,
Hi,
Same happened to me, all I did to fix was a factory reset from settings (you'll lose everything and need to root again).

Nexus 1 1st Gen. Storage is showing 6GB after upgarde

I am sorry if this question has been asked before . I have nexus 7 1st gen 32GB. I updated to ver 5 and now it is showing 5949 GB. Have done factory reset several time, Data, cache wipe but no luck.
The partition shown with PC is same and any ROM or file placed here cannot be flashed. I have restored to factory and re-rooted it but same result.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for quick reply but looks like the simple methods don't work and for other commands I guess I need to be developer.

Running out of storage space, but totals are wrong!

I updated my Nexus 4 to LMY 48T yesterday and noticed that my storage space is all screwed up. The totals of all my storage come to about 5GB total according to all the internal storage added up. So I am somehow missing approx 8GB of storage space that is not accounted for. I downgraded to LMY 48M to see if the new update had a bug. Nothing!! Somehow my phone has burned 8GB of space. How do I get this back to what it is supposed to read.??? I tried wiping the cache partition, no good. I am fresh out of ideas.
This is a common issue you need to reflash the factory images and it will be fixed.

Not only did I reflash the same factory image 3 times I even rolled back to an earlier image. It still says I only have 1 . 2GB of storage space available, but when you total up everything you come to maybe 4 or 5 GB used and there is 8 GB missing. I used Wugs Toolkit to root and flash images. The only thing I haven't done is to do a complete factory reset.

The art of the search set aside, are you directing me to do a factory reset, period to get my storage space back, because I am trying to avoid a total factory reset at all costs. I was using Wugs Toolkit to flash the updates using the "No Wipe" mode. Maybe it won't work without doing the complete factory reset, but as I said I was trying to get my space back without using the most drastic measures. I booted into recovery and used the cache partition wipe hoping that might work, not to mention using GOOGLE to look up about 25 methods that all said the same thing, some easy some a little more complex, but they all come back to a " Complete Factory Reset" . Anyway, unless I'm not reading your post right thanks for your thoughts.

I linked you there because that is THE option...there is no alternative. Copy your files, run a nandroid and copy it to your computer, then settle in for a factory reset.
I have to do it every single time I flash an Ubuntu or Mozilla rom, and even some factory images. I've been doing it for a LONG TIME...trust me when I tell you this: there is no alternative.
There is one good piece of news, though...when you restore that nandroid your storage will be right, as long as you follow the guide correctly
Also, factory reset from stock recovery isn't 100%....erasing every single partition and reflashing from fastboot is.
