Im dying to root this puppy, not so much for a custom rom at this point, but just to root & have the Viper audio mod for better volume. But with the 4.4. Kitkat update supposively coming down the pike, would have to restore stock, then re-root. I know the posts are there,..But is thier an easier, less painfull way to do this? Im on sprint variant LS980ZVA thanks.

I'm waiting for kitkat before rooting, since there is no easier way than that.
You are assuming that kitkat won't break root. Nit sure why people want to ota to get the update. Rom developers will release kitkat Roms long before the carriers release their version

I have an AT&T LG G2. On my previous phone, after I accepted the OTA for 4.1.x to 4.3 on a Galaxy S3, it was a nightmare. I couldn't get su to run, and I got all kinds of security errors (apparently from KNOX), and not just for superuser. Even though I read several threads about it, I never was sure if it was 4.3 at fault -- which does seem to have some issues per Chaintech -- or if it was Samsung's KNOX, or both. So I certainly want to do my homework before I do that on my new LG.
Which is asking at least these questions:
Should I bother updating from 4.2.2 to 4.3 on the G2?
(I've read the technical differences, which seem to be incremental. I just want opinions here. For example, things like the new Camera UI may be irrelevant considering LG's customizations already in place with 4.2.2.)
If it isworth upgrading, will it retain root with an OTA? If it doesn't, what is the best way to go about restoring it in 4.3?
This firmware is probably the first I've ever seen, and that's a lot since first adopting the original T-Mobile G1, where I didn't want to replace the ROM. It's that slick. For now, I just need root and a custom recovery.
TIA.

Well, I'm not sure how much more official the Over-The-Air update from AT&T could be.
By the way there is no official 4.3 for g2 yet.

Hmm, this seems to be the case, now I'm reading they may skip over 4.3 completely. This update it's offering to install is a bug fix and remains at 4.2.2. It's like 57MB, so I assumed it would be 4.3 as my Galaxy SIII got that a while back (and blew up, hence this whole thread).
I'll probably wait until KitKat comes out, then. I really like the LG ROM, and I just wanted root for backups, ad blocking, etc. I've run CyanogenMod since back when it was called JesusFreke, but then I'd have to reinstall everything and all that jazz. Question is, can I wait until Q1 2014.
Hi! well. i've been out of xda for a while, can any one tell me if there are news about custom recoverys for at&t sgh i337? im running 4.2.2 mf3

I don't want to be a jerk....but there are plenty of posts about the updates you're looking for. I understand you probably don't want to actually read through the forums but that's what you should do instead of posting something like this. There's safestrap for MF3/ root, and 4.3 update and 4.3 root. Good luck.
NO NO and NO...Just read through the many threads about the locked bootloader...
About all you can do is root and Freeze the AT&T software update so you don't
end up with the arguably flaky 4.3 for this phone.

Safestrap 3.70 is still in its early stages for 4.3 and its a beta.. There are only a handful of ROMs that you can flash. I would say go with darthstalker for the time being if you need a custom ROM. If not just root it and customize it yourself.. Good luck in finding more info. It takes time and days of reading to get all the knowledge you need to know about this device.

yeah, i actually just found an update.zip which contains mk2 4.3 stock rom and a rooting way who seems safe to be used. i heard 4.3 has battery improovements and open gl3.0 for gaming but i heard 4.3 is also buggy, so it all makes me hesitate, i use xposed modules for customize stock. is not my priority to have a custom room 4.3 yet, im really sorry samsung is makeing everything more complicated
do you think i should give a shoot to 4.3 and root it and then wait for a safestrap?

Once you root, you can get rid of all the junk T-Mobile installed on our D801s... So yes, you can do that without installing a custom ROM.
On the root question on KK, I'll let some one else answer that since I still haven't upgraded (no need to since my LG G2 works much better with CloudyFlex ROM despite the 4.2.2 tag).
Cheers!
As of right now, there is no root for T-Mobile G2s running Kit Kat. Root works for other carriers but there have been reports about T-Mobile having issues. We'll just have to wait and see if someone can find a workaround for us.
You can disable most T-Mobile bloatware in the settings until root is available (I think autoprime is working on it). If not, you can downgrade to Jellybean 4.2.2 and then root. It was surprisingly easy and fast to root the Jellybean version, though. I'm no expert so I can't help you with this, but be sure to read and reread instructions if you decide to do any modifications to your phone! I learned the hard way after softbricking mine.

Whoa, really? Did you root before upgrading to KK or after? I was impatient and bricked my phone by trying to flash Kit Kat and had to go through the process of unrooting and trying to flash the stock firmware several times (it was a nightmare because I'm noob and my laptop kept freezing). I didn't want to fail at flashing my device a second time, so I'm quietly waiting for the IOroot kinks to be sorted out... unless they've already been fixed?
Has there been any updates with rooting this version yet.thanks
I do not have an S4. I ordered one from Swappa expecting to use it on Straighttalks LTE service. Already ordered the sim card as well.
However, of course right after this I started digging a bit more and found that it is currently impossible to root an S4 after it's updated to 4.4.2. The one I ordered is updated.
I'd highly prefer to have root. I don't "need" it. But, if I can achieve root without much issue I'd prefer it.
I did find a few posts about using something called Odin and safestrap. I didn't read fully through them yet. But, I'm curious if doing these methods actually work for downgrading? If they do what are the "limits"? Can I put any Rom in or is it only a specific Rom?
Will I likely run into issues doing this while using the ST LTE settings?
Just trying to cover my bases before I start on this phone. It's not here yet and I'd rather resell it if I'm better off doing that.
I am curious what would be suggested purchase for the ST LTE service since it seems the AT&T S4 is out of question if I can't even update the damn thing. I'd rather be capable of updates and having root. I don't care about being able to do Roms and stuff.
Dude, you can have root on any firmware but it may not be easy to get it. Do you know what firmware your device will have?
Odin flashes the stock firmware onto your device. Safestrap is a custom recovery that you'll need to flash custom touch wiz roms

I've been reading nonstop that the 4.4.2 AT&T Galaxy s4 is not rootable? If this is inaccurate can you lead me to a post that shows the method for rooting this version?
I do not know anything about the phone other than it being updated to 4.4.2.

It can be rooted. You'll need to downgrade thru Odin to mk2 firmware, root it with saferoot then instill safestrap and flash a 4.4.2 rooted rom Start here

And keep asking questions. You're limited to the roms you can flash but you can get root

No, cm is not possible. Only touch wiz based roms
Edit, as an fyi, if your phone is on 4.4.2 it'll be on nb1 or nc1 firmware. Read up on how to downgrade to mk2. Look in the general forum. Also look at rebel1699's venom magic tool kit. There's a lot of reading and studying to do before you get your phone

Is this going to work on the ATT S4? It's stated that it would. Would save me the trouble of doing all of this other stuff.

So, I just got my G-900A. I managed to root it using Towelroot and flashing the old kernel and then reflashing back to the newer kernel. So, I'm running 4.4 just fine. I've disabled the update service, because I don't want Lolipop installed until I know if it can be rooted. Also, is there a way to ever go back to 4.4 stock if I want? I know the bootloaders on the 900A are encrypted, so I'm a bit hesitant to mess around and just flash. Thanks in advance.

Found it. Thanks. I'm skeptical though. Everyone is saying that 5.0 has battery drains among other things. 4.4.4 stock is beautiful once you freeze all the crapware. I'll probably hold off until 5.1 drops.
I swear that if I had the time and money I'd file a lawsuit. I honored my contract. The phone is legally mine.
With the locked/encrypted bootloader, you won't be able to roll back to KK after you've flashed LP......
