Hey guys,
Today I have been experimenting with the Nexus 5's boot animations and because I am a total newcomer to boot animations/graphics in general I wanted to share my journey with XDA, after all XDA is all about learning about our devices right?
So as I said, today I have been creating boot animations for the first time, please try not to judge my boot animations against the 'top of the range' ones as I am very new to this but either way I still wanted to share...
The first boot screen that I made today is called REVOLT:
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
REVOLT.zip - 1.03 MB (Flashable from recovery)
The second boot screen that I made today is called GoogleSimplicityWhite:
GoogleSimplicityWhite.zip - 628.53 KB (Flashable from recovery)
The third boot screen that I made today is called GoogleSimplicityBlack:
GoogleSimplicityBlack.zip - 590.52 KB (Flashable from recovery)
Note: If you need to revert back to your stock boot animation for any reason then I've provided a flashable zip for that too: GoogleStock.zip - 1.14 MB (Flashable from recovery)!
Thanks for taking your time to view my topic, I would greatly appreciate any feedback about these boot animations as I would like to start making better ones in the future...
Thanks to XDA Recognized Contributor @enricocid for introducing me to the flashable .ZIP template.
GoogleSimplicityWhite is being used in the following ROMs: PURE WHITE by @miseusegau

Yeah, I could give it a go... I will change a few colours around later and come back with it for you!
@LewisD94
I added Your boot (Nice job, I like it! ) inside a flashable zip so You can remove instructions
View attachment Google_bootanimation.zip
You can use the zip to flash Your works in the future
If You open the zip You will find an updater-script inside Google_bootanimation.zip\META-INF\com\google\android\
It looks like this if You open on notepad++
Code:
ui_print("[COLOR="Red"]Installing[/COLOR]");
ui_print("[COLOR="Red"]bootanimation[/COLOR]");
run_program("/sbin/mount", "/system");
package_extract_dir("system", "/system");
run_program("/sbin/umount", "/system");
ui_print("[COLOR="Red"]xda[/COLOR]");
You can change the ui_prints to visualize what You want during the flash process, just change the red hilighted text inside the quotes, and add what You want (the name of the boot, Your name etc etc)
and add the bootanimation.zip inside
Google_bootanimation.zip\system\media\

Brilliant, thanks for adding my boot animations to the index. Really appreciate that!
Those Google ones are just pure perfection. I haven't booted it up yet on my phone but I am really excited. I want to try both the white and black, and can't decide! They are just pure sex.
Thank you!!

I ended up with the black one. I had the white one, and loved it, but with an all black boot loader screen, and all black phone, an all black screen was the way to go.
Just out of curiosity, this is showing my OCD, but could you make a black one that matches the boot screen with the padlock? That way it almost looks like the entire phone boot sequence is one seamless screen?
Like your black bootanim with that lock icon we get at the bottom

I did try to do that but unfortunately it's pretty hard to line it all up in order to make it perfect. I doubt I could get it to be good enough to satisfy my own OCD mate... Sorry. I'm glad to know that you gave both boot animations a chance and I'm glad you made your mind up based on your phone model too!
The main reason why I made the black version was because I wanted people to choose based on the version of their Nexus 5... I'm using the white version of the Nexus 5 so I'm using the white boot animation myself. :good:
would like to see you expound on the revolt one... that's exactly what I've been looking for... a true STATEMENT
perhaps one with the "Don't Tread On Me" flag?
The revolt one is awesome.. I flash it back every time I flash a new ROM ?

Hey guys! Here are a few boot animations I ported.
None of these are created by me. All credits to the creators.
Although, I resized most of them to get them to the right resolution. Smaller resolution = Quicker Load
A lot of them are from the droid forum. So expect some droid logos.
Instructions:
1. rename the downloaded zip file to bootanimation.zip
2. place bootanimation.zip in your sd card.
3. use root explorer and copy this bootanimation.zip to /data/local
OR
1. rename the downloaded file to bootanimation.zip
2. adb push /xxx/xxx/bootanimation.zip /data/local
xxx/xxx -----> the location where you've downloaded the bootanimation.zip on your pc.

Wondering, is there some boot animation randomizer?
Would be a couple lines of a shell script to copy a random one from, say, /sdcard/bootanimations to /data/local and hooked somewhere after the boot finishes but if someone else already did that perhaps, I am lazy too...

Well, incompatible animation in /data/local resulted in the default one being used, so... that is most what I managed to "break" this.

In devoid franco, the fcuk complexity is the default bootanimation. It won't be present in the /data/local. If you want to apply a new boot animation, place the bootanimation.zip in /data/local and reboot. If you want to revert back to the default one, just remove that.

In case you just want to test it first, no need to reboot. Just connect your phone via USB cable, enable USB debugging and run:
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
When you have finished watching, press CTRL+C.

thanks man! had to change it since lots of people notice the "f" word when i boot up.
Call me fool but i can't get it working, i try to move .zip to /data/local but i have no right, or i can't access sdcard via root explorer cuz it is locked.
I need some extra information here please.
Here's the Ice Cream Sandwich boot animation for the Eris. Thanks to zimphishmonger for the Goodies post.
I resized the images from that Galaxy Nexus dump and cropped a bit from the top and bottom to fit the Eris' resolution.

Just to note, I am using shed's GSB v4.2, but it may work with other custom ROMs too.
INSTALLATION (Thanks to shed for the flashable ZIP)
1. Download the attached ZIP and copy to the root of your SD card.
2. Reboot into Recovery.
3. Choose "Flash zip from sdcard."
4. Choose the "ICS_bootanimation_Eris-signed.zip," and let it do its thing.
5. Once it's complete, reboot your phone and you're done.

Enjoy!
Edit: workshed optimized the boot animation and cut the size in half. I have replaced the original flashable one with his. Thanks again shed!
I can also confirm that this works with MongooseHelix's ICS Alpha 4 / Preview 1 rom.
For those who like using ADB:
INSTALLATION
1. Copy the attached eris_ics_boot.zip into your tools (or platform-tools) folder under android-sdk-windows (or wherever you have the sdk folder saved).
2. In Windows, run a command prompt, and navigate to the above tools (or platform tools) folder, then run the following command:
Code:
adb push eris_ics_boot.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
3. In Linux/Mac, run:
Code:
./adb push eris_ics_boot.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
Thanks ryurabbit for the code snippets.
4. Reboot your phone, and you're done.

Figured I would share this since it helps...
Mrs. Shed wanted that nexus bootanimation on her Eris, but she has very little internal storage left. Since our Eris' internal storage space is so precious, and that ICS nexus bootani is 5.2mb in size, I decided to optimize it and cut the filesize down by half.
It looks just as good. Check it out, use it, distribute it, love me?

Thanks shed,
Good point. My Eris is a bit empty at the moment but for those trying to save space this definitely helps!

anubis2k3, if flashing the ZIP did not work for you, have you tried the other method (in Post 2) using ADB?
Let me know if that works for you. Like I said, I've now used this bootanim on two different ROMS...but that still doesn't mean it's universal.

Just as a test, I flashed this bootanim Android BIOS Boot Animation, and it worked fine.
Then rebooted into Recovery, flashed the optimized ZIP from shed, and it worked just the same.
Sorry anubis2k3 that you're having problems with it. I hope you get it resolved!

ok, call me crazy but... you do realize that Condemned's rom already uses this Nexus bootanimation, right? Well if that's the case, this is the same bootanimation, only the filesize is smaller because I optimized the images inside.
so in theory, if you're using Condemned's rom you won't "see" a difference after flashing this... because they're the same bootanimation lol.
hope we cleared that up

I get half the boot animation working fine, and the other half is just a white screen - this loops and gives me ani-white-ani-white-ani-white... until the phone boots up
I've had this problem with every version of the ICS boot ani I've tried to install - any idea what's causing this?
Thanks in advance
(phone/rom as in sig)
Hey enigma,
Sorry you're having trouble. My Eris is not with me currently.
I looked at the ICS_bootani_Eris_Optimized-signed.zip from the OP again, and everything seems to be in order.
I opened up the zip there and looked at all of the PNG files...they're all fine. I wonder what could be causing your frames to "skip?"
Anyone heard of something like this?
Hey man
Thanks for taking a look, I've had it with various boot animations...

Update 1/2/2012
- Added an bootlogo without animation so it can be as small as possible.
(dzo said the maximum size for /system has been reached. The animated was 7mb and this one is just 600kb)
Update 26/2/2012:
- Added a SourceForge download link.
Animated Version v1.1 changelog:
- Added fade in to background too
- Centered the text horizontaly (they were a bit to the right, lol)
- Added more frames Note: It seems to be laggy because the OS is loading at the beggining!
Animated Version v1.0:
- Initial Release
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1, Download "bootanimation.zip" from the links below:
Animated:
SOURCEFORGE or DROPBOX
Simple:
SOURCEFORGE
Step 2, Install:
You can use ES Explorer to navigate to:
/data/local
(NOT data/data/local !!)
and replace the existing bootanimation.zip with this one.
IMPORTANT NOTE Not in SDcard, but the internal memory. In order to achieve that to this ROM, I had to set the default "Home Directory" of ES Explorer to be just: "/" (without quotes of course!). You will have to enable "Root explorer" in ES Explorer options before trying copying the .zip too.
Also, a big thanks to dzo for making this awesome ROM!
That's awesome as ****... can you center the text vertically? If not, doesn't matter, because that's one great boot anim!
Very good. When there is download link and tutorial i will try it.
I understand that the developer of Aurora ROM doesn't want to waste time with this details which can then be made.

I think it will run faster if you decrease the size of each picture and increase their number (to keep the resolution-animation fluent). But I don't know how...

Heh... Mind your language and stuff. Not that most of us mind too much, but I think it's a forum rule >_>
But yes, the animation's looking good. But the problem isn't in the image size, but indeed it's the image count -there are only 6 frames for the fade in, and the rest of the animation is only 3 frames on loop. That's why it looks laggy.

I like it very much! Yeah it's totally normal to lag at the beginning. All the boot animations I've tried at every rom lagged for the first 1~2 seconds because of the OS. Nice work my friend! I would love to see a "heart pulse" effect at the words though. Or something with the stars... some loop animations... you know... let your fantasy speak!
Thanks!

BTW, when you flash a new version of aurora you dont have to install the bootanimation again. The update doesn't affect the bootanimation, unless dzo changes it himself (on future updates).

If anyone wants me to make them a custom boot logo,either post a background you wish to use or use one of the ones i post.
1)drop the zip on your internal sd card
2)boot into the recovery of your choosing
3)wipe cache and delvik
4)find the zip you just loaded onto your internal sd card and install
5)whala you have a new custom boot logo
The attachments are in order with the screens

Very nicely done Diablo :good: I'm running Civato's Re-Flex-ShellShock ROM and have customized it by adding his "CyanogenMod" bootanimation from his CM10-Flex ROM. Your blue bootloader text harmonizes well with the blue bootanimation. I now have a distinctly customized bootup procedure. Great work.

Thank you sir.
24 downloads and only 1 reply and 4 thanks,come on guys.
Diablo ..... Got to repeat myself because you should be thanked for your fine efforts :laugh:
I've just downloaded the "Reflex ShellSHOCK" one you've done which I doubt you did for me alone, but it will go nicely with my ShellSHOCK ROM.
I have some sympathy with your comments. You may or may not know (or care) that in July last year I started a thread in "Themes" inviting people to produce Boot Animations for the A500, by the first couple of months of this year I had posted approximately 40 of my own creations and several other people had chipped in and submitted many more. However in the last few months the interest and creativity seem to have left the A500 forum so it was a pleasure to see your thread appear and I for one really appreciate the work you have obviously put in. :good:

Yes and this seems to be the same thing at the EVO forum,looks like i might need to upgrade to more modern electronic devices here,the ones i have seem to be prehistoric,even though,in my opinion are the best on the market.Yea i was getting the idea that this was turning into a ghost town also,it sucks,i should have spent more time on here than i did,i dev for the EVO,so that,school,work and a gf took all of my time,i've been using Thors rom for a couple years,lol.Thanks again for your appreciation,if you ever need any help with computers or android,or just want to BS,hit me up on [email protected]
Nice work.
Those are really sweet. Very crisp and clean. Thank you for the effort. I'll inject them onto some of my clients and Friends tablets after see your post and they choose their favorite.

Custom Boot Logo Creation Instructions
Hi Diablo,
Thanks for the custom logos. I was wondering if you have put up instructions to use to create a custom boot logo. Ive been trying to create one using Skrilax's post, but seems like the application is crashing for me. Would really appreciate it .
Thanks,
Jay
I've gone ahead and thanked you for the post. I may post back shortly with a request, or at least guidance. I want a custom boot logo but I don't know what of...
Prehistoric? The a500? WIth a proper kernel or ROM patch and some tweaks, it can benchmark with the Nexus 7!!! I love my a500. Only thing that will take it from me is internal memory failures or physical damage. Loving the full USB port and always have been.
Is it possible to get the attached JPG made into a boot image?

This link shows how to easily make and install a custom boot image.

I've injected your image into the Skrylax_cz V8 bootloader.bin and attached it.
But if you want to, open your favorite paint program and add some text or whatever to your image, follow the tutorial and you'll have something more personal.
I certainly will. Thank you!

Only issue I've run into is that the a500 tool that Blackthund3r made keeps crashing out because it can't find 'bct.dec" (I modified and made my own image). I'll have to hunt down his thread and aks there.

I think that it is safe to use the default and just "Next" right past that. I've used it more than a few times and never had an issue. But be sure to do what feels comfy to you. Research, etc, first.
Ill try it out. The guide says you have to use a custom onne for rooted devices but we will see

Hi
I've been using Cataclysm Rom since its JellyBean days. It the first and the last Rom that I always use as a daily driver on both my N4 and N5. Now I've retired both the devices and have bought a OnePlus2. Although I don't regret buying the Oneplus2, I surely miss Cataclysm. And it goes without saying, @atl4ntis has created a 'Gem of a Rom'.
Here is my take on the Cataclysm bootanimation for the Hammerhead. The sequence is at 60 fps. It has 3 parts to it. The beginning (part0), a loop (part1) and an end (part2).

Flashable zip coming up soon!
P.S. I’ll be uploading one for the N4 (Mako) and N5 2015 (Bullhead) as well.
Enjoy!
Thank you @scoobyjenkins and @sewer56lol for guiding me through the process of making my first boot animation for the Oxyslim Rom on the Oneplus 2.
Excellent work!

That's a cool animation. I haven't tried it yet so it might already work like how I'm about to describe. But the latest Android Boot animations have had three parts to them. A starting animation, a loop animation that loops until everything is loaded and an animation right before it ends. I think this would be cool set up in that way. the first would be the logo and text coming in. The second would be the flickering just looping. And the last would be the screen off effect before it boots.

Why don't you download it first and give it a try.
This is cool, but what if I would like to switch back to default Android M boot animation ?
Update: replaced on default bootanimation.zip on Cataclysm Jan 5 Stable release, working like a charm, thanks
Very nice animation, thank you!
Good job, thank you @Andro1d
A flashable zip would be very appreciated. Nice job btw. Keep it up.

I can make one, but I'll need a tester before I upload it. I don't have the device with me anymore.

Totally unnecessary, flashing the zip would be more work than just replacing the file in root explorer...most people would want to backup the original boot animation.

You don't need the device to create a flashable. Just have the script extract /system/. As long as the file names are the same and in the proper place, they'll replace each other.
If you want, I could whip one up. [emoji14]
