Phone Comparison. Need advice

I am planning to buy a new unlocked phone within 10 days. I have the following options:
Xperia Z2($500)
Xperia Z3 Compact ($600)
Galaxy Alpha ($500)
iPhone 5S ($550)
I had made up my mind for the Xperia Z2. It is the most balanced phone providing adequate power, battery life, decent camera, storage, etc. but recently I came to know about the over heating & self cracking screen issues with the Z2( or the entire Z series including the Z3 & Z3 compact). There are quite a lot of reports of the glass on the phone cracking. Also that the phone overheats a lot. I am worried as whatever I buy, I'll have to stick with it for 2 years. Sony has refused warranty in most cases related to this issue. Same issue plagues the Z3 Compact
I recently had a look at the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. It's a good looking and decent device and offers all that I want. The primary drawback is the battery life of the phone and to some extent the pentile matrix display.
The iPhone 5S is also a good phone though it does have a smaller display. It has the best camera among all the devices I have mentioned.
So I ask you people for your opinion. Which device should I buy?
I am not a heavy user. My daily usage includes a couple of hours of offline music, roughly 1-1.5 hours of web browsing, average messaging, a couple of photos and some pandora in the evening while connected to my bluetooth speaker. I don't play games much on my phone. Maybe an hour of cumulative gaming in 3-4 days.
I am still willing to buy the Z2 if the overheating and cracking issues aren't that widespread. I have nothing against iOS or Android. I use an android phone along with an iPad Air. So no issues there. So please be neutral in your opinions( don't start bashing the iPhone). And please feel free to suggest any other phone that you think is good ( please avoid the HTC One M8 and LG G3)
I personally have the z2 and love it. The main thing boils down to design and ui you will have no issues with battery life based on your usage. Apple and ios is its own thing all together if you prefer ios as a daily driver go for the iPhone as for the Android devices Samsung is plagued by there touchwiz ui where as Sony is pretty much stock android with a few added things for the camera and Walkman app etc. The z2 is a large device there is no denying that however the larger screen if you don't mind the phone being bigger is a big advantage for just about everything. It's easier to type on and makes Web browsing easier. I haven't had any issues with mine in terms of defects. One big advantage with the Android devices is the sd card. Although you may not need it at the moment if you have got the phone for 2 years it's great to be able to expand the storage if needed. I would recommend popping into a phone shop and playing with the phones and see what you like best as everybody is different. Hope this helps you.

Thank you for your opinion. I have been to various stores and tried the devices. My major concern is the cracking, which cannot be tried in the store. Since you have a Z2, maybe you can elaborate your usage a bit. How long have you had the device? Also does the device overheat?
Also, what would be your next preference, after the Z2 (out of the 4)?
Hey, welcome to the Z2 forums.
First and foremost let me say that my phone is from the 14W28 batch, meaning it was produced between 7th July 2014 and the 13th July 2014 (both dates are inclusive). Also I am running a ExistenZ made by @niaboc79 which may have sorted some problems I may have faced if I hadn't have installed it.
The first worry you have with the phone is overheating, with my phone in particular I have not encountered any overheating problems with normal usage. The hottest it usually gets to is 50C or so. When the phone is on charge it does get slightly hotter if and when I use it, although it has never gotten past 60C. I don't think it is fair to compare the heat from usage of this phone to the Xperia M but I would like to point out when I was using the Xperia M normally the phone would hit 60C-65C and when I tried to use the phone on charge it was hitting 70C-75C. And thus I don't think there is much of a 'problem', although the constant heating and cooling down of the rear panel could contribute to it cracking. (Side note; I also did a 4K video record test to see how hot the phone could go/how long I could record for, I managed 10 minutes before I accidentally closed off the recording and the hottest the phone got was 60C and it cooled off quite quickly.)
The second worry you have with the phone is the self-cracking issues. Again, I haven't encountered any problems with the phone cracking. I do keep it in a case to be safe. However, I have knocked it off of my bedside table during the night quite a few times but still no scratches nor cracks on the front (due to my screen protector) and no scratches nor cracks on the rear of the phone either. It is possible that the self cracking phones were put under 'stressful' situations like tight pockets, rapid cooling and heating, often drops/falls or maybe it could just have been a problem with the earlier batches (mine may still be subject to these issues as it is from about 2 months after the release of the phone).
I have now had my phone for 2 weeks and I am happy as Larry with it. I manage to easily get 1 day battery out of the phone (this is only cause I use it a lot at night before I charge it). If you want my opinion on what other phone I would go for after the Z2 it would be the iPhone 5S.
Having just gone though a similar decision process, I feel I am qualified to answer.
Obviously, since I am reading this forum, I went with the Z2
I also do not like the idea of a glass back. It almost made me avoid this phone. I just don't see the advantage - Thicker, heavier, slippery, and it doubles the chance of cracking.
Note that in my research, I did not see that there is any greater chance of the screen cracking on the Z2 than other similar phones, just that there is the addition of the back cracking, which doubles the statistics.
On the plus side, the Z2 was basically the only phone out there (at all) that "Checked all the boxes"
Must - haves:
4.4.x
All bands 3G and 4G
stereo speakers
NFC - Can use Google Wallet
Other "Icing on the cake"
Looks good.
1080p screen
Good Cameras
Waterproof
Other phones I was considering:
Oppo Find 7
One Plus
Xaiomi Mi3
Huawei P7
HTC One M8
I should mention that the Vertu Signature Touch (Pure Jet Calf, preferably) was the only other phone that really met all my specifications (3G/4G bands, 1080P, NFC, 4.4. stereo speakers), but even after doing a really good job of looking under the cushions of the sofa, I wasn't quite in a position to buy a $10,000 phone.
First of all, congrats for buying a new phone, having a new phone is always exciting to me.
I own a Xperia Z2, and previously owned an iPhone 5s and a galaxy S5. So as you, I don't have any concern about iOS and android.
So, let me begin with Xperia Z2. The Z2 is one of the best phones I'd ever owned, as the battery life is great, I think photos are better with this than with the iPhone 5s, it looks great, the stock UI is easy and stylish, Sony developed great tweaks such as ClearAudio or Stamina Mode and there are lots of development for this. Personally, I had problems with proximity sensor, but it was solved after I flashed a custom rom, and I'm happy after that. No overheating problems or cracking.
I consider Z3 Mini, the expensive version of Z2, as the specs are almost the same but in a smaller case, so If you want to stay with Sony, I would go for the Z2.
The iPhone 5s is such a great device, I consider this also one of the best phones I'd ever owned (Under the Z2). Camera is great, battery life is average, iOS is well balanced and stylish, tons of accessories specially designed for iPhone, and well... is an iPhone.
The Galaxy Alpha looks gorgeous and high-end, almost as an iPhone, the specs are average for the price. I think you are paying more for design than for specs. It's pretty though. In my own opinion, I don't like TouchWiz, so I will put this in the last option.
I would buy it in this way:
- Xperia Z2
- iPhone 5s
- Xperia Z3 Mini
- Galaxy Alpha
If you accept recommendations and if you want a high-end device at low prices, look for the OnePlus One. The negative aspect of this, is that you need an invitation to buy one (I have one, if you want).
Let us know which was your decision.
What about LG G3?

The overheating problem with 4k video has greatly improved with software updates. Not so much an issue now. The build quality issues are never general. Luck of the draw I suppose!
The z2's got the best overall specifications on your list of devices. It's a great phone with no weaknesses side from the auto mode of the camera. Learn to use manual controls and you'll soon lose the impression that the 5S has a better camera.
Considering that is the cheapest on your list, I'd say it's a no brainier. Best phone, cheapest price! What more could you ask for. You have Sony's insane 6 month cycle policy to thank for being able to buy the z2 at such a price.
Trust me, in no way are any of the other devices on your list worth more than the z2.
That's One thing to bear in mind though when purchasing Sony devices. They don't hold their value for very long because of the rate at which Sony releases flagship phones so don't expect good resale prices should you decide to sell it on one day.
So if the rapid devaluation in value isn't an issue for you, the z2 is the one and only real choice you have. Unless, that is, you want to settle for less and pay more for the privilege lol

As far as i can tell, ive owned two z2s... The self cracking is an earlier build issue.
My 2nd one has had no issues.
Also after some fighting with sony and getting the better business bureau involved sony fixed the first one at no cost.
Self cracking is an issue for a small, but vocal, minority so can be ignored. overheating similarly isn't an issue for most users in normal usage, sure Z2 gets warm but what superphone doesn't only real issue is if you want to record long videos in 4k,which if you bear in mind most phones are limited to 4 minutes is a problem whatever device you get. Z3 compact will likely be more prone to overheating, much the same hardware in a smaller package.
As for iPhone 6,if it fits your criteria and you can live with its closed environment go with it, an android device probably isn't for you anyway.

What makes you think android devices are not for me?
I just found out about this phone and I am in a similar situation as the OP.
I am looking for a used/new phone for less than $500 dollars, has an above average camera, good battery life, and no lag issues.
Currently, I am using HTC one m7. A few problems with it is that a camera is super slow and crappy at low light situations. The camera takes like 1-2 seconds to focus on the subjects in dark environments. Next, the phone lags and hiccups quite a bit. I've tried a few custom roms but the performance is still not flawless.
In the past, I have owned an iPhone 5 and it was great except I got tired of the OS, that's why I went back to android. iPhone took best pictures in my opinion. The camera was fast. The phone did not have any hiccups. One big thing I noticed going from iPhone to HTC was that songs don't skip as fast as on the iPhone. It takes a split second more for songs to skip in an HTC music player. It kinda took time to get used to it again. I would consider getting the iPhone 6, but it is too expensive.
I am also considering oneplus one, m8, and maybe moto x or nexus 5. But overall, I think z2 is the best all-round performer.

With iPhone everything is designed to just work, if it doesn't tough ****. Android, still IMHO, lacks the polish but there are almost always work around to any major issues.
In my experience the people willing to work around androids foibles find the locked down world of iOS too constrained, and those who put up with those constraints find the fiddling with android to get it set up to their liking too much. But that's just my take on it.
I was kinda skeptical too after reading about all those Issues but still bought the Z2 1 month ago and I couldn't be happier.
No heating issues, no call issues, no cracking glass (so far)
Everything works flawlessly ?

Self-cracking is not a thing. If it was, you'd be seeing the forum flooded with complaints, not just a handful of people moaning.
Those claiming self-cracking most likely damaged it themselves through abuse, possibly knowingly, or possibly not.

Despite the HTC and Sammy announcements, I still went for this bad boy Z3

I wasnt able to wait for Z4 to be announced - my contract expired last month
My HTC M7 was dying on me - battery was draining so fast
Wasnt pleased with the HTC and Sammy announcements so I went and grabbed the Z3
I thought I will be disappointed as this is an "older" phone but I am quite pleased!
Hope I made the right choice, will scour this forum for more tips and tricks on using my new Z3
I am missing my HTC blinkfeed, flipboard does not cut it for me - any other suggestions?
I heard there was a Sense 6 being developed for Z3, but I didnt want to root this early - phone is just 2 days old hehe
I'm actually in the same boat. I'm coming from the Nexus 5 and looked hard at it. Camera upgrade, waterproof and battery life are the clincher. I just need to determine if every model can be rooted and unlocked.

Buy a case. I usually go caseless but I dropped the phone quite a bit (just getting used to new size, glass front back, etc) and cracked the screen in the first week. Now I have it back from repairs and I have a tempered glass screen protector and a clear thin case. Phone is protected and it still looks fantastic.
I think you made the right choice - this is a great phone! Really hope Sony keeps making new Xperia's and markets them a bit better.

Sorry to hear about your cracked screen? Do you have to pay for repairs?
In this side of the world, a cracked screen will cost you more than 200 USD even when the phone is under warranty.
I ordered the Devilcase and front and back glass SP to protect my Z3

I use the Google newstand for now. Works quite well for me as it has a widget.
I came from HTC m8, and I also missed blinkfeed, but if you look in the general android hacking / theme and apps, you'll find blinkfeed has been ported, and also HTC ime, I'm using on z3 and wife using it on z2.... So have best of both worlds in my opinion

Copy apks to priv-app folder and set right permissions and reboot and you'll have blinkfeed to choose when choosing home

You'd be surprised but Socialife is quite nice ATM.
For all the rss/news apps I tried is the most beautiful one and actually the easiest to setup.
I've used BeyondPod as well but they've destroyed it's UI.
So exactly how much are you enjoying the battery life?

Yep! Battery life is awesome! My HTC M7 would die in half a day with 4G on and a couple of videos on the train.
With M7, when I go cycling I would have to bring a power bank.
Z3's battery is not even halfway through when I get back from the office!
I haven't been using the office charger since I got the Z3.
There is still a lot more battery left before I go to bed but I charge it anyway so I get 100% the following day.
i'm in the same boat here, i have been using Samsung for quite some time and i decided to get the Z3 (t-mo) cuz sammy is starting to bore me. i have this phone for about a week and i love it.
Me also, I just swapped my galaxy s5 for a z3 yesterday and very happy with it as of now

I didn't use it before.
But the latest iteration once you log in is a pleasure to use!
Beautiful and it's catching news in a good way actually.

Hi, yep it does heat up especially when playing games
The heat is concentrated on the top side of the phone while on the m7 I can feel the heat on the whole back side - might be due to its all AL design.

Correct, the metal basically acts as a huge heat sink. Which is good for the device, as it gets the heat away from the components and into your hand/air. Where-as glass conducts heat pretty poorly. So you only feel it where it's hot right under neath.
I doubt it makes a very big difference in terms of performance, or longevity. Although it's definitely a different feel in the hand.
Also, accidentaly leaving my old M8 in the sun a few times ended up with a prettyyyy expensive game of hot potato
Well, same thing here! I came from the Galaxy S4, and honestly the M9 was a little disapponting, the S6 is very expensive ( i'm from México), so, the Z4 seems to be very far away, i grabbed the Z3 a week ago and i'm lovin' it !!!
someone told me I`m st*pid for buying this phone now that it is "old", but I`m here too
going to get my Xperia Z3 in a few days!
bye bye Xperia Z, welcome Xperia Z3
Me too
I'm about to jump on the Z3 wagon too coming from a GS2 that ive had 4 yrs. Love the look of the GS6 edge but the price is a piss take and worse SamsungIphone getting rid of the the changeable batt, yet even WORSE for me the memory card, not being able to use a card killed samsung for me who i now see the same as iphone. M9's camera in low light and the messed up 810 chip put me off that 1.
I did order a Z3 couple weeks ago but they messed up which would have left me without a phone for x days so i kept my current contract for another month. i should be a Z3'er in couple weeks.
From the research i've done i know i'm gonna love the Z3, seems like a Gr8 fone :good: already brought a case, magnetic dock an a duelshock 4 for it

Good for light user?

I got a Xperia Z Original(tmobile) and just waiting for it to be delivered.
I use a Windows Phone now and only ever used like 10 apps total. Might use 20 at most in a day.
Is this phone still a good for casual performance. I mostly use music, video, email, social media apps, and not much else.
All else is done in the browser.
I won't be running multiple apps a lot,no new games.
Also I heard the screen is terrible at an angle, but also heard it's not the screen, but sonys settings.
So can it be made better at viewing angles with software tweaks or is really that bad.
I got for around $120, which looks good for 5 in. 1080p phone.
Just not too sure how the processor holds up.
edit: sorry I put this in wrong forum section, not sure how to move it. Please move.
Sure!
I'm using Xperia Z for daily use
It still perform well without any lag
I usually use it to listen musics.surf the net....
It can even run a lot of games!!
the only defect is it's poor screen and poor battery life...it too bad
but all in all, I think Xperia Z is still a execellent phone!

What do you mean poor battery.
Is it okay or really bad?
I don't use my phone with screen on for too long.
I once had a galaxy nexus and that thing would drain like 1% a minute with screen on!
In the span of 30 minutes my battery was like a 70!
Xperia Z is good but it was a history..
i'm using Xperia ZL though, there no different between this Z and ZL since there are brother more like a twin..
both of it sucks at battery life if you upgrade to android 5.0.2 which means you have made one mistakes and you will experience phone overheating like you can put your pan and make omelette on it with the battery draining like hell when display remain on because i only got less than 4 hours if device screen remain on plus the camera won't be capturing nice photo anymore even the android version is rising up from 4.1.2 tp 5.02, but the camera quality is falling down and down..
Positive sides is...
The music? i admit my ZL in 5.0.2 sounds better..no scary sound like others, i got more clarity of my music..
i salute for this phone is still smooth eventhough 2 years old and quite satisfying performance but poor battery life.. Well that's it.. my opinion..
I'm migrating to Lenovo Vibe Shot until 5.1.1 is out.. Goodbye
Good to know, wasn't Sony supposed to roll out updates for Android 5.1 this month?
Not sure if it will updated or not, when I receive it.
As to me,the battery drop 1% in 2-3min
I think...if you use it just for receiving phone call
It can satisfy you of course.
But if you want to play games or surf the net
I would suggest you to do it with a powerbank
If you don't care about battery problem and photo quality
Xperia Z will be very suit for you !
The screen isn't that bad, only at angle viewing, not when viewing straightforward.
Also, battery should be replaced after 12 months, for every phones brand so..
And I use custom kernel which throttles the cpu when it gets warm so my phone stays cool
But I'm afraid with tmobile u can't unlock bootloader and therefore not flash custom kernels.
Anyway, I think this phone is still a good one to get. (better that windows phone lol xD)
It was actually sony's flagship in 2013..
Are the dock connectors on the side the same from Z-Z3?
Some of the magnetic cables that use the connectors say only Z1,Z2,Z3.
They never mention Original Z, so did they change the connectors for the dock after the Original Z?
Yes. The Z have different connectors than Z1, Z2 and Z3. Each Z phone have a specific dock for charging. I don't recommend the magnetic charging cables.

If you set screen brightness to 70%, battery life isn't that bad. Screen is ok when you normally look at it. Also, you can downgrade Android version and everything will much better! No heating, better battery life, better photos...
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
hmm since it will be getting tmobile version, is it that hard to downgrade?
One last thing, what docks do you use for the xperia Z.
The Sony docks are kind of expensive and have seen some cheaper ones for like $10.
Would a third-party dock work well?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DBVV8QA/ref=twister_B00DAV8Q1G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Got this one for $3.86, since I had like $4 in amazon credit.
we'll see how slow it charges, most third party chargers charge really slow.
Also any big issues to be aware of?
I've seen some forum post of people saying the phone screen cracked without them touching it.
SD cards being killed by the phone.

Sony phones have very bad service centers. That's a big Sony's problem

both of it sucks at battery life if you upgrade to android 5.0.2 which means you have made one mistakes and you will experience phone overheating like you can put your pan and make omelette on it with the battery draining like hell when display remain on because i only got less than 4 hours if device screen remain on plus the camera won't be capturing nice photo anymore even the android version is rising up from 4.1.2 tp 5.02, but the camera quality is falling down and down..
Goodbye

I just bought a 2nd hand Xperia Z,and it asked me to update so I pressed it and I end up with 5.0.2. Battery runs out on me twice a day pretty heavy user, I got the paid version of poweramp and about £20 worth of widgets and skins for poweramp player and I can only use the default skin and widget, and I mainly use it just for music, I tried to root my phonyyesterday with kingroot and it worked, I don't know what happened but I got rid of the root, as I didn't know what to do after I rooted, I want to use custom rom and delete unused apps what I never use, if anyone got any help for me after rooting, I wasn't able to update SuperSu it wouldn't update, I don't know what ideas doing really.

I got the phone today and it's on 4.3.
Any way to root it?
edit: I rooted the phone, a lot easier than I thought.
Now since the tmobile version is locked bootloader.
What is the best Android version to have on on the Xperia Z?

4.3 is perfect. Stay with it until 5.1 is released.

Z3C - simply the best

I bought a Google pixel 3 weeks ago, and now I find myself using my old broken and taped z3c. This is the perfect size and I hope Sony never discontinues the compact series.
I bought pixel because Sony went mid range on their new compact. And that really sucks. I'd spend the same amount on a top range compact that looks exactly like the z3c. Water proof and awesome battery life and just the perfect to hold.
Sucks that its looking less and less likely.

I'm agree with you, Compact series from sony is awesome. Nice hardware and perfect size including water proof and dust resistance. And I think it's still one of the best in terms of battery life. At the moment, absolutely satisfied with this phone.

Totally agree, every cent was well expended on this phone. I regret nothing. Also I thought I'd never use the waterproof feature, but this week accidently I poured water on my phone. I didn't even bothered about it

There are rumors that in February there will be a XZ Compact release.
Is the Pixel that bad? I was interested in buying it, but it's way too expensive.
No, absolutely not. Pixel is awesome. Unparalleled software and camera experience. Love the screen quality and oh so smooth.
Give me pixel software and camera on a z3c shape and size (maybe upgraded to include xperia x fingerprint scanner, USB c, and the new chips -821 and 4 GB RAM) and that works be my ideal phone.
I guess this is a good place to give my two cents, for all z3c users considering pixel - don't be fooled by those reviews calling the regular pixel a compact form, it's so not. Maybe it feels like compact to those who like and use phablets - to us z3c users, it's a big ol phone. And the way I hold the phone one handed (so I can type) actually hurts my finger. The bottom of pixel is sharp where the speaker cut out is. I rest my phone on my little finger - could do that with z3c - can't do that with pixel. The phone is top heavy, it always feel like it'll topple over during typing.
Compared to z3c, the pixel is a bar of soap, super slippery. Add to that the width and weight, and of course the price (meaning you don't want to drop this) this phone is a pain to use - super scared of dropping it all the time.

Wish I had the money to buy it then. Sounds like a cool phone.
But if you mod the Z3C right (my setup is SLIMM 3.8 + EliteKernel (personalized kernel profile) + ARISE Sound Mod + Cyberian (I tweaked some files as well and use personalized KCal settings) + N-ify along with Greenify and AppOps for saving battery and Media Scanner Optimizer + SDMaid for snappiness) I can say that this phone can perform par on par with the latest flagships. My girlfriend has a S7 and the way the camera is edited due to CyberianMod and my edits, the Z3C is coming really close to it.
The only problem with Z3 is the overheating issue and the fact that we don't have official support anymore. But, hey! A lot of bugs were fixed with the latest blobs.
I was searching for a new phone to buy as well, but I couldn't find anything (nor had the money). I took into account Nexus 5X but that phone has at most 1 more year of support. Same with the Z5C. XZ is too big, X Compact is mid-range. Pixel is way too expensive and OnePlus 3 is far too big.
I guess that I'll be stuck with the Z3C for a while. At least I can try and make the most of it. Great phone. Wish support wasn't dropped for it.
And it's a great phone to be stuck with - I almost wish I stayed put (hence the post) but I cracked my z3c and currently using it with tape. Also, got tired of the camera and low light picture quality - that and diminishing developer support ????

You should give a try to a brand new Z5 compact( or back again to a brand new Z3 compact) , in my opinion. Sure, many people would say it's a failure to buy a brand new 1-2 year old phone, when there's the new X Compact, BUT i just can't move to any other phone bigger than 4.7....And guys, let's be honest, only Sony provides power in these inches...(maybe Apple with the iPhone SE too, but it's not waterproff, no sd card + it's 4.0 not 4.6)
Don't think I didn't consider that. I really did... It boiled down to z5c not being much of an upgrade from z3c, looks more plasticky, and the horror stories I heard about overheating.
Combine that with my desire for the latest stock software and timely update and also a top notch camera - I had to make the call on pixel. Also, I'm on T-Mobile, been on it for quite a while, don't anticipate switching, so when T-Mobile half off over two years promo came out, the phone became affordable (not that it would have stopped me,, considering I bought the phone before the promo was announced).
As I said, if Sony releases an upgraded z3c again, same form factor and look, and battery life, just improved internals and maybe added finger print sensor, I'll sell my pixel and buy that instead. (I hope Sony is reading these forums )

I'd love to own a Pixel, stock android, tons of custom roms and outstanding camera, those two have my attention, but damn WTF with the price? Apart from the looks (the back is OK, but why did they copy iPhone's front is beyond every logic) the battery is a joke, come on from the Z2/Z3 days it should have become a standard to use a 3000mah battery with ~5" screen. This is not an affordable Nexus device so that they can cut costs on a battery and get away with it.
Anyway, even if Sony releases "upgraded z3c" or something similar, I'd think twice about it, mainly because I love using AOSP (fully working and stable), and that's impossible if you don't own Nexus/Pixel.

Hi!
I'm very new here and also not that experienced with modding android. I have 2 Zc3 witch I've Rooted and put some Slimm rom in. (I've no Idea What th SLimm stands for)
Going to try to copy your setup now, so thanks for posting that!
I Upgraded one of them today with the "D5803_3657_Android 6.0 Sony Marshmallow Concept"
And to my Suprise they added support for Exchange server??
I've tried so hard to get any exchange calender to work with the slimm but to no sucess, Do any of you use marsmallow? or do you use older ones? (My work uses office365 )
I been looking for any phone that can match the batterylife and size with the xperia but with no sucess. So I guess I'm stuck with simply the best ^^
Best phone I was used before but due digitizer problem I sent to service they replace the phone with X
I really enjoyed with z3c it is great phone

Sold my OnePlus 5 after 1.5 years

So , today , 3 days after posting ad on OLX India , I sold my OnePlus 5 (6gb model). I used the mobile for 1.5 years and had good experience with the device.
I loved batter life and smoothness of Oxygen os and dev support on XDA but could not stand the bulkiness and design of device when compared to current day designs. I had used Sony Xperia Z3 before and still think it was way better device than OnePlus 5 especially interms of design and usage and even as a complete package (Stereo speakers, multimedia apps, Water proofing etc..) . Some how I could not like what Oneplus offers. Oxygen OS is great but it is just bland and very minimalist. Last few weeks, I was using CRDroid rom and had fun. But I feel we get what we pay for and with OnePlus we get basic but high end feature at a reasonable price
My device has paint quality issues as spots of paint got removed with Spigen rugged armour case
I am a huge Sony fan and had used their live with Walkman, Xperia SP & Xperia Z3 before but sadly they are not selling very few devices and no latest flagship in India at all. I m left with Samsung and is planning to buy Samsung Galaxy S10. Suggest any other android if you can. I d always want complete package in a mobile and Samsung is only android manufacturer that provide great quality android mobiles now (yeah , I like customizing my phone a lot , and themes too ).
Thanks XDA developers for proving wonderful roms and community for helping me out with some issues I had in past. It was fun (frustration sometimes) while it lasted with OnePlus 5. I am attaching my last home screen setup and will have that as a memory
Sadly I just lost mine after almost 2 years to an accidental swim in the ocean (dove down a couple meters before remembering it was in my pocket). It was too late by the time I got home 4 days later to open it up and rinse out with alcohol.
I got it to revive long enough to back up my vacation photos by swapping the original battery back in but by morning the LCD was dead.
I replaced it with a used galaxy s8. Both phones have their pros and cons. S8 looks nicer. Oneplus 5 feels more solid and easy to hold. No burn in on the op5 screen after 2 years and a minor amount on the s8 (keyboard burned in from the girl leaving the screen on likely).

Which rom you used on your device ?
Mine was stock the whole 2 years.

hopefully I will keep it way more longer. In a perspective of less over consumption, I'm expecting at least 5 years without too much lag.
I had a desire Z from 2010 to 2015, and it wasnt a flagship back in 2010. 800mhz single core, and 364mb ram. Lot of tweak and custom rom to make it work fast enough.
The nand chip get old, and even on stock 2.1 android rom it was sooooo slow. I loved this device, with a physical keyboard and removable battery.

I had a used desire z for a short bit back in the day. Cool phone, but we've come a long ways. I could have kept the oneplus 5 a long time, especially with how repairable it is. When I was forced to replace it I wanted to try something completely different and also water resistant since mine died because of water damage. The s8 was easy to find a good one used. I miss my op5 but a change is nice sometimes.
