[Q] To Kitkat or Not to Kitkat - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I have spent quite a bit of time reading about the officially released KK roms for the Note 3 and really just wanted to know if i was to flash, say, the Polish rom to my device through Odin, would i be able to flash the official UK release when it finally gets released? Are there any downsides to flashing a non UK based rom in this way? My phone was bought from Phones4u in the UK but i believe it to be Sim free phone, IE no Vodafone Bloat.
Whats the general thoughts, wait for the official UK rom or go for some Kitkat goodness?
Thanks guys

Ok, so:
Firstly you need to check if your phone is SM N9005 or SM N9000. If it is, good. Than it is international version of the Note 3.
You can go to sammobile.com and look for FIRMWARES not ROMs that are 4.4.2. First you have to download those stock firmwares and flash via odin (if it ends with .tar.md5) or simply via recovery if it is .zip.
You don't have to worry about the country you download (I think there is UK too) because it makes absolutely no difference.
When done with that, you can look for ROMs to flash or you can use the phone as stock.
YOU CANNOT FLASH KITKAT ROMS IF YOU DON'T HAVE STOCK KITKAT FIRMWARE !!
ONCE YOU GET ANDROID KITKAT, THERE'S NO TURNING BACK TO JB.
So, I hope you understand me. If you don't, feel free to ask

Thanks very much for the reply, its been very helpful. If i was to update to one of the international version, say polish, when the UK version comes out would that be a OTA update for me or would just not see there was an update available?
Thanks again.

Not an OTA update no, you'd get Polish OTA's -- however, soon as UK BTU version is out, grab the ROM from Sammobile or here and flash it and you'll get UK updates (not a great deal different in most EU ROMS - CSC's are multi etc

And if I flash the Polish Rom am I pretty much guaranteed not to trip Knox? My warranty is important to me.

Official ROMs won't trip Knox no.

No problem. Don't use Odin 3.09 - use 3.04/3.07 or 1.85

One last thing, if you do try to flash a JB rom through ODIN after going to KK you will trigger Knox warranty void...
You are trying to flash a bootloader the Note 3 no longer looks at as Stock so you will trigger Knox. This has been reported by a few people....

UPGRADE to KitKat, it is better than JB. Cheers!

Hey sorry for the late. There will be OTA updates, everything will work just fine. That's why it's callled STOCK ROM. Everything is made by Samsung. ROMs are custom, other developers make those.

Sorry, I didn't understand you at the first answer... If the update comes, it will probably be available in USA, and then in GB and EU etc... So you can visit that site sammobile.com again and seek the new firmwares. It is the same (I'm from Serbia and I use polish as it came out first). Good luck! ☺

[Q] Can I upgrade to 4.4?

So when I first got my note I imediately used this guide to flash kitkat and completely ****ed it up, it just stuck on the Samsung n9005 screen.
This was a link to C4ETech's video called "Galaxy Note 3 - Samsung Official Kitkat 4.4.2 - How to Flash/Install" but I had to remove it.
I assumed it was something to do with the CSC code (mine being BTU) so I installed a BTU rom using this guide.
This was a link to TheSmokingAndroid's video called "HOW TO UNBRICK & UNROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 3" but I had to remove it.
Now I want to install a kitkat rom preferably a stock one but there isn't one for BTU. So I looked at the custom roms as some support BTU but require the device to be on 4.4 already. How can I get onto 4.4 if every 4.4 rom requires a 4.4 phone? Will I have to wait until an official BTU update comes out?
I've attached a screenshot of my About Phone page (which doesn't have BTU anywhere, I don't get it).
I probably have the complete wrong end of the stick so sorry for wasting everyone's time but if you have a minute to help I'd really appreciate it.

Try *#1234# might come up there. Anyways, go over to Sammobile and grab any of the latest 4.4.2 KitKat ROMs for your device (9005) as you said. And it should work fine.
Advice: Wipe your phone, not compulsory but advisable. Cheers!
I have a canadian variant note 3 900w8 and i want to flash 4.4.2 as well but i was hoping to flash the t-mobile version as i have heard of issues with the 9005 rom compatibility, just wondering if anyone has had experience yet, or if it has been done.

Thanks for your help but I've already done that and the newest version I can get is 4.3 I'll just wait until my phone gets the update, Thanks anyway
I've managed to get onto 4.4 now by flashing a polish ROM after reading that they support BTU, I don't know how to delete this thread so I'm just letting everyone know my issue is resolved

If you want the ability to flash back to 4.3 from 4.4, install custom recovery and roms and keep your Knox 0x0, head over here and do some reading ( if you haven't been there already ).

SM-N9005 International Note 3 4.4.2

Hey guys.
Got an N9005 and just getting really impatient waiting for the Australian XSA rom to be released. It's so close I'm sure but, was wondering if I could perhaps flash a Poland firmware for now then flash an Australian one when it's released with no problems?
In my knowledge, a few years of flashing roms etc, it seems this would update everything including my bootloader, which is fine. Heard also that you cannot go back to any previous version of android after this procedure. Which I find weird, as what if I flashed a 4.3 firmware, wouldn't this revert everything back? Including bootloader?
Anyway, not that I'd want to go back, that was more just to see what the final say was.
Moving on, so I should be able to flash a Poland room for example then update to Australian? As they are official firmware, I shouldn't trip Knox either?
Thanks heaps in advance guys.
Anyone??
Thanks!!

You can flash the Poland firmware while you wait. Almost everybody ran Poland Kitkat when it was first released.
The updated bootloader prevent from downgrading. If you try to do it via odin, the update will fail.
Official firmwares from any region will not trip KNOX.

Ohh sorry, I mean there is a separate model for Optus operator.
In fact there is N9005 that has CSC code is OPS for Optus, and there is N9007 specific for Optus.
May be you have the 1st one.
You can get your Model and CSC code by using Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app.

[Q] latest firmware needed, going from JB to KK but....

So I'm going to bite the bullet and go to KK from JB.
Once I've KK'd my phone I'll put a custom rom in it.
knox is tripped and I'm rooted.
Will I need to unlock the bootloader once flashed?
Also getting a bit confused as to which is latest stock firmware for my SM-N9005?
Been googling and I have a ND3 and a ND6 versions?
But then I google more and get NE and a NF versions?
Phone is the european version originally on vodafone.
Don't suppose it really matters as I'll be going to a custom rom but would like to start from the latest in case I don't like any of the available custom roms as yet.........
Thanks for any help you provide
no-one knows the latest international european stock rom version?
AFAIK there isn't a "European" version per se, different ROMs for different areas/countries.
Go to samfirmware.com and check by date released.

Go to sam mobile NF is current latest version but you can go for NE version. European Version doesn't really matter just download appropriate file for your Vodafone firmware . Here is the link http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=29534 (ND3)
You can try the NF version(Latest) also if you want to even not for Vodafone stated on the Website but before you flash, make sure to tick the update bootloader because you are still on JB firmware. Then you can try any of Custom Roms available on Android Development Section.

Is it PDA or CSC that indicates latest?
I know the HK roms are for 16gb phones although I think someone has a 'fix' for int 32gb versions.
Although the NF version is for the 900T I think it can be flashed to the int9005?
Damn Samsung and their knox tripping

Mate, if there are no NF available for N9005 then dont flash it. You have and and you must download only the correct version of firmware that is sm-n9005. PDA is the one that indicate the latest. In sammobile website the latest version for N9005 is NE so you have to go for NE for the latest version. I have no idea if NF1 is flashable on european 32Gb cause of rumors and what not that will brick the phone, and to be safe just download the NE firmware. :good:

[Q] S3 Neo reverting to stock ROM problem

Hello there, I flashed my S3 Neo with an unofficial ROM so I could see how good is Lolipop 5.0, but I didn't like it so much, so I wanted to revert back to my stock ROM which is Android 4.4.2. My question is, does the Baseband version matters? My phone baseband version is I9301IXXUANI2 but when I went to the Samsung Updates site where I could find my ROM, there was only I9301IXXUANI1 versions, no I9301IXXUANI2. If I try to use that version from the site, would my phone get bricked?
Sorry for my bad english.
no it doesn't matter !
at least from what i know !
i did installed different baseband version to my phone and nothing happened everything works fine !
just be sure its for ur phone which is i9301i !
good luck

Nothing is matter. Baseband or region has no impact. That's what i know. Go to sammobile.com and download any baseband version firmware and flash it through odin. Just remember one thing that firmware should be for your exact model.

You are welcome. And may be your service providers have some restrictions so try to download a firmware for your country or which is for your neighbour countries. And there will be no problems. I am not from Europe and i have tried firmwares of European countries.
Thanks all for your help, but is there any alternative of samsung-updates .com ? Their download links are the worse thing I ever seen in my life, I takes me 4h to download at a limited speed and the download failed once.

This maybe a very stupid question but ive looked everywhere for an answer but i cant find one. Is it possible to flash the stock lollipop rom over an unrooted o2 lollipop rom. Only reason im asking is i haven't much experience flashing Samsung phones and i want to make sure i don't brick the thing lol. any advice would be great. Go to sammobile and find your firmware. Try to search by name e.g SM-N9005 and country. When you download from there you will see instructions or all over xda on how to use ? odin.
All you need is ? odin. No risks if you follow the instructions.
Thanks for the reply but it still doesn't answer my original question can I flash a unbranded lollipop over the O2 lollipop and I have yet to find a unbranded UK lollipop rom yet so which version do I down load?

You should flash the good firmware for your CSC (device country code). You can find it installing this APP and going to Sammobile.com then for download the correct firmware.
mine says o2u and i cant find an unbranded firmware. ive included a screen shot.

You shouldn't flash unbranded firmware to one branded device. You should flash one of this ONES then.
is that the branded version of the o2 firmware? as i have that one installed already.
