[Q] Help. Stuck on flashing bootup after installing bootloader - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First post, longtime lurker.
FInally I was brave enough to play around my Nexus 4. Using ADB and Fastboot, I unlocked the bootloader and install custom recovery (tried both twrp and hen cwm). However when I reboot the system, it gets stuck on the flashing 4-circles screen. I had wiped the cache and others, including factory reset, but it is not rebooting.
On the first attempt , I installed twrp, it went well. During the reboot, TWRP asked if I want to unroot to which I agreed. Then that it went to flashing loop. I don't think the SU file was in the phone.
Phone is stock 4.4.2
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

I could get into the bootloader. After massive web-search, I managed to solve the problem using Wugfresh Toolkit. I'm restoring everything now.
Thanks for the concern.

You should have restored the phone using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47156064
Once you learn how to use it you could have restored your phone with out losing all your apps and data

[Q] Rooting Nexus 10 gone wrong. So I need to reflash stock recovery?

This isn't my first android root but I'm stuck. I followed the video for rooting my Nexus 10. Got stuck in a boot loop but was able to flash cwm but still in boot loop. I tried doing the factory reset and now cwm is gone too and still stuck in boot loop. Do I need to reflash the stock recovery and if so where do I find that to download?
flash tbe cwm recovery again via fastboot, transfer your custom rom of choice from your desktop to your device, wipe data (factory reset), then flash that rom via cwm. btw, this is a galaxy nexus forums

and the recovery flashed fine? did you "fastboot devices" to make sure fastboot can see your device? sometimes these recoveries need to ne flashed a few times before they take. try flashing it two or three times in a rom. did you try twrp recovery? you might like that recovery better.
op, rename/delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p and reflash your custom recovery;
RANT: GOD DAMN IT, WHERE'S MY NEXUS 10!!!??? BEEN WAITING FOR 2 GODAMN MONTHS! - Sorry, it's just that I've been going through some **** to get my hands on one - AND THERE'S PEOPLE WHO'S GOT 2!!!

I ran MSkip toolkit and it repaired everything. I got a failed on renaming my recovery images so my stock recovery images are just gone I guess? Anyway I'm good. Rooted and repaired thanks to Skips toolkit.
Thanks for all the help!

It appears to be flashing fine and yes it sees my device. I tried multiple reflashing this am and still no joy.
I reposted in the right place and got some help but not done yet. I think mod might delete this thread since I have the other one going.

[Q] incompatible kernel installed - bricked - help please

Hello guys,
Unfortunatelly I installed the wrong kernel (franco kernel, milestone, actually only for 4.2.2) on my Nexus 4. (Before installing the kernel: updated to 4.3, then rooted, flashed paranoidandroid rom).
Now the device seems to be bricked, I have a bootloop. I still have access to the fastboot/recovery mode. I dont have any working kernel data on my phones memory.
Can you please help me how I get a working kernel again or how I can fix the problem?
Thank you!
Dan
The device is not bricked if you're able to access fastboot/recovery. A bricked device is when the phone CANNOT get into bootloader or recovery.
Just wipe factory settings, dalvik, cache (just wipe swipe if you're using TWRP) then reflash the Paranoid Android ROM, gapps and then reboot and it'll load.

I have loads of pics on my phone and have the same problem. Will I lose any of those?
After wipe u will lose all your data. But if you have turned on the picture sync with Google+ you get it back. Or u flash the ROM again without data wipe. (In not 100% sure if this could brake something)

Just flash the correct franco.kernel.img file in fastboot mode or if you can get in custom recovery, flash the zip. You wont loose anything. :fingers-crossed:

S5 Recovery Bootloop

Hey guys need a hand with something,
I was just in the process of flashing a blisspop 5.1 to my galaxy s5 and now Ive ran into difficulties. Phone did a full boot and launched perfectly however when I was restoring my apps through google play I accidentally hit quit and exited the installation. So therefore to restart the process (as I didn't know another way) I hit factory reset. Phone rebooted however it tried to reboot into recovery but the recovery wouldnt boot (twrp) and the trwp screen just kept flashing. Pulled the battery and it rebooted to recovery again with the same bootloop issue. I can get into download mode and am thinking of reflashing twrp but need help before I brick my phone!
Thanks!

you may flash TWRP again in odin and after that I suggest you flash ktoonsez.zip TWRP after that so you have a stable TWRP

Would it be better to reflash twrp or should I flash stock firmware? I really don't want to lose this phone as I bought it less than a month ago.

you may flash the TWRP first if the problem still persist then the only choice you have is to flash stock firm then reflash TWRP, then after that I suggest you flash in TWRP the TWRP by ktoonsez because it in zip file most of us s5 user uses his TWRP
also dont be afraid as it would not hardbrick your device as long as you can access in download you are always safe., first day of my s5 I root it already and flash custom rom

NP happy flashing again

I need your help guys. (bricked nexus 6p)

Okay, so I've been reading XDA for a while now to root my devices and install custom ROMs and its been incredibly helpful. However I have a huge issue with my nexus 6p and can't find a way to solve it.
Here goes....
I bought it of eBay a few months ago and unlocked the boot loader and rooted the phone plus i also installed twrp and made a nandroid backup. I then installed pure nexus rom and the phone was working incredibly well.
Fast forward to this week, I decided I wanted to upgrade to cm13, since I missed the cm theme engine. So I Wiped my device clean using twrp. And installed cm 13 and the gapps then rebooted.
The phone booted perfectly but on the optimising apps screen it would reboot and tell me to enter the password that I originally had on the pure nexus ROM. After doing so it would re optimise the apps but would crash and reboot. It was doing this continuously.
Twrp also asked for this password on every boot before it let me see the main recovery menu.
So then I took the logical next step and decided to wipe the phone clean again using twrp. Seeing as my password seemed to not clear the first time.
After the wipe, I decided to use the original nandroid backup to restore my device as the password thing was still showing up. And cm 13 was still not installing. Neither was pure nexus.
Okay this is where it went downhill. I hit restore and had everything checked. The process was going well but instead of the restore completing and twrp saying it was successful. It crashed halfway and rebooted.
Since then its stuck in a bootloop. Its on the google splash screen and then reboots to the google splash screen continuously. And does not boot to the os.
On another note. The bootloader is still unlocked. The recovery works. And so does adb/fastboot. So I wouldn't consider it hard bricked.
Here's what I've tried so far:
I've used the wugfresh root toolkit to flash stock and unroot the phone. With softbrick checked. Still nothing. Phone boots to the splash screen and then reboots to the splash screen.
I then reflashed twrp 3.0.2-1 . which worked And its not asking for my password anymore.
Again I tried restoring from my nandroid and it crashed midway which makes me think the nandroid backup is/was corrupted causing the issue in the first place?
I've also tried to just restore and Flash twrp again and then install pure nexus ROM. And still nothing?
I can also still mount my phone to the PC and copy and remove files.
On another note I find it interesting that although the ROM is installed. And the storage bar on my PC is partially filled showing that it clearly has a ROM installed. The phone does not have the standard android file system. Just the twrp backup folder and that's it.
I would be honoured if you could help me out here. And get my 6p up and running again.
Thank you . [emoji45]
I would suggest you flash the factory stock system image using fastboot to get your 6P back up and running.
If you don't have the factory image they can be downloaded from here
Extract the factory image then use fastboot to flash
Code:
fastboot flash bootloader C:\angler\images\bootloader-angler-angler-xx.xx.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio C:\angler\images\radio-angler-angler-xx.xx.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash boot C:\angler\images\boot.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash cache C:\angler\images\cache.img
fastboot flash recovery C:\angler\images\recovery.img
fastboot flash system C:\angler\images\system.img
fastboot flash vendor C:\angler\images\vendor.img
Check out this guide which has all the information you need, especially around device encryption and flashing roms. Lastly gaining root is as simple as flashing SuperSU or Phh's SuperUser in TWRP.
I hope that helps, let me know if you get stuck.
Yea just flash stock image I had this happen to me before and flashing stock image fixed it.
Thanks guys. I'm going to read the guide and try it out. Then let you know how it all goes. Fingers crossed it all works

FYI don't backup efs partition with that version of twrp. It's a known issue.
i did not realize that twrp had that issue
And guys, I followed the fastboot process by the letter and although everything worked well. The nexus 6p is still bootlooping on the google splash screen and not going any further. :crying:
What should I do? i've added the cmd window screenshot so you guys can have a look.

Upgrade to TWRP 3.0.2-2 real quick. You didn't need that guide(in terms of his nandroid) but I am glad it worked. Just need to wipe efs partition using adb commands.
I see. And I have upgraded to the latest twrp so hopefully it doesn't not happen again

Good deal!!! There's a build that's unofficial of 3.0.2-3 that you can also jump onto. The current version 3.0.2-2 has a bug with backups on Android N. There was a comprehensive post that someone made about the issues with the different versions but I cannot find it for the life of me.

Bootloops when flashing System, Data

It first started this morning when my phone suddenly started rebooting while I was using it. Then I thought it as a ROM issue and flashed a new ROM over it. Everytime I try to flash something on system. TWRP Hangs and the phone restarts itself.
Tried repairing data, system partitions from TWRP, same thing happens. Bootloops when I try to repair data partition
Tried restoring nandroid backup. When it says flashing data, TWRP freezes and the phone starts bootlooping.
Can anyone help?
I have tried doing the EFS flash via adb from PC.
I'm stuck with the exact same problem since months.

No luck?
Have you tried Claiming Warranty?
try doing a re flash of recovery, because your issue will be to get your recovery working properly or else you cant remount anything else.

I flashed TWRP 3.0.2,3.0.2-2,3.0.2-3
Loads of it. Tried doing full stock + unroot from Nexus toolkit. That usually fixed all my problems Everytime I was in dire problems like this.

I've never used that toolkit. Since day 1, ive used skipsoft android toolkit. just keep on trying. Does it crash at all when doing backups?

Well in your case what I would do is a backup,
Then wipe, flash custom rom. Use phone til reboot.
If reboot, flash stock IMG. Use till reboot
If still rebooting, then come back. I guess I never asked.what rom.your using

it doesn't boot at all.
It bootloops
I have the exact same problem. Last week upgraded to 7.0, root, stock room, viper4arise audio and EX kernel and that's it. while taking pictures it froze then that boot loop, somehow I managed through a combination of flashing factory image through fastboot, locking, unlocking, reflahsing, to get it to boot normally, then yesterday I was taking pictures again and it refroze then bootloops. Now I am able to fastboot factory images but it doesn't get me out of the bootloops, and in TRWP same as you, I cannot flash anything on data or system. Repairing the file system doesn'T change anything, I did like on other threads also and flashed factury, restored nandroid then flash factory but the restore on TRWP always hangs up.
I was wondering if there is someone knowing the adb dd commands to impose the raw copying back of the restore ? Maybe that would work.
Did you try wiping system under wipe > advanced in TWRP?
In twrp, can you open a terminal and check the results of this (basically, doing a full read-only test of your flash)
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/dev/null
