[Q] Touchwiz Application Manager Doesn't Stay Open - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I'm running SACS TW ROM and for some reason when I long-press the HOME key, the application manager (recent apps) comes up, but disappears if I let go of the home button. It doesn't matter when I let go of home, it disappears. If I keep it held in, I can use the application manager fine, but as soon as I let go, it goes away. What could be causing this?
I have S-Voice turned off and I used Home2Shortcut to replace it with Google Now. Then I uninstalled Home2Shortcut to try to fix the issue, no luck. I also restored TW to defaults by clearing data and cache, no luck there either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's S-Voice.
Disabling "Open via the home key" in S-Voice settings makes the app manager not stay open. When that's re-enabled, the app manager will stay open. Ridiculous.

[Q] Off button not going to sleep

Not sure why, but when I turned my streak (1.6, no hacks/updates), once it boots, I could before depress the off/on button for a split second, and the screen would go to sleep. Now, it won't. If I hold the off/on button, the menu pops up like normal to power it off. Tried removing the battery.
Short of a blow it out reset, anyone know what I can do to make it go to sleep when I tap the off/on button?
this happend to me with a build of analog clock v2
in case you have installed a clock modification or docking application , this is probably it.
Weird...I haven't installed any docks, or clocks.
I guess I'll just go through the apps one by one, installing them and see what happens?
I don't have that many installed.
Screen off (just installed so I could turn off the screen)
Z4 root (but hasn't been run)
Google sky map
Speedtest
Epocrates
Google Maps
Facebook for Android
Radar Now
Watchdog task manager lite (not running full time?)
Dell Backup & restore
Fandango Movies
Skyfire Browser
Advanced Lock (worked ok for a week before the pwr button issue)
Astro file manager
compass
Xda-Developers
AT&T mark the spot
Google Googles
Shop Savvy barcode scanner
Photobucket Moble
Weather bug (lite)
Get ES File manager. It's way better than Astro.
Looks like you may have identified the offending app on your own. Try removing Advanced Lock

Tried taking out advance lock, the watchdog thingy, and a few other
apps, rebooted, still no joy.
Oh well...I'm sure a wipe will fix it...at least I can use the widget I installed
to turn off the screen, which I guess in a way is probably better, since I
won't be hitting the on/off button as much
This happened to me after I did the EM unlock and explored the options. Came out of it and power button wont go to sleep anymore. Thought I might have changed a setting, but can't find it. Peace
I think mine did that too come to think of it.

[Q] app menu crashes whenever I search

Whenever I'm in the applications menu > press the menu button > select SEARCH without a doubt it crashes, (but not into a reboot) kicks me out of the app menu and back to the home screen where I have to wait about 15 seconds for all the icons and widgets to reload before being able to do anything.
The phone was previously rooted until I foolishly updated to .621 and just until recently I was running the Nemus Launcher though I doubt that has anything to do with the current problem.
I searched both on XDA and on the internets but did't see anyone else having this issue though it could be my wording that's hindering the find.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated

Home button screwing up

I am running cm10, and my home button (hard or soft) does not work. the screen just turns blank then goes back to the app i was on. sliding the home button up to get to GNow doesn't work either. this happens with every app and nightly version i use since 11/19. i have reflashed, cleared caches, etc. and found that the error was in my data partition- and more specifically, one of my apps. here is a link to my logcat when i pressed the soft home button:
http://pastebin.com/udGmNByF
and here is the list of all the folders in my /data/app folder:
http://pastebin.com/ZugMN6k1
If you need anything else, just ask. Thanks!

I would guess that one of your installed apps has captured your home button then is crashing when it tries to use it. To find out which one it is, temporarily install a third party launcher like zeam or adw and the next time you press the home button a list of eligible apps that can use the home button pops up. Your bad app is probably on that list. Chose the new launcher, make it default and see if your problem goes away.

That didn't work, it just turned black again. Would only an app with su permissions be able to do this, or any app at all?
By "do this", I mean screw up the home button. Also, I wiped the data, and it worked fine, but after I installed all of my apps, it stopped working again. Also, I am running some other apps that aren't from the Play Store (well they are, but the apk's were downloaded from another source). Would those external apps be the culprit?

They do not need su access to capture the home button. When you say reinstall, do you mean reinstall, or do you mean restore with a backup program. The latter usually restores the app's data with it and recreates your problem.

I mean reinstall, like from the play store, but it did it automagically when i logged into google play, i didn't need to go to each app and install it.
Would the external apps be a problem?
Also, I know that in the Manualnooter for the stock OS there is an app called "Homecatcher". would that help at all?
Okay- I looked through the logcat and guessed what the issue was- lock screen was disabled.
I re-enabled it through the notification bar, and home button is fine. Any reason why this might be? And how would I make it so that I can disable the lockscreen again?

Dont let play store install them all at once. Back them up with TB and reinstall them one by one until your problem re-occurs. And do it without the data. Don't know about homecatcher. That is for stock.
Okay, I've narrowed theproblem down more. If the NC boots with the lock screen enabled, you are fine, even if you disable it. But if it boots with the lock screen disabled, then the home button will not work until you re-enable it and unlock the device. After you e-enable it, you can disable the lock screen again. Not anything major, but definitely an annoyance. Should I report this in the CM10 thread and ask them to fix it? Sorry if I sound like a big ******* taking their work for granted, but I don't have a 64-bit computer to build on. If I had one, I would prbly fix the problem myself. Oh well, thta's what Xmas is for. (A bit off topic from this thread, but is the Acer C7 Chromebook 64-bit? If it is then i would just hack ubuntu on it then build off of that.)

Google search clearing default launcher

This is a bug on the app, so whenever google now is turned on, the launcher gets clear and pressing the home button will make you choose a new launcher.
The issue came since Google launched GEL, and has not been fixed. I just want to put it visible to see if it can help others and also, if anyone has come up with a workaround. My only fix is to disable google search (or just clear all data).
thanks

Keep getting asked to choose launcher default...

For some odd reason now my phone keeps asking me to choose between TW Home and TW Easy. I choose home and always, but every few minutes of using apps and such I get asked again when I hit the home button. I went in app manager and cleared the default and selected TW Home again, but it still happens.
Any ideas?
In case anyone has the app "Befunky" installed, it updated last night and was my problem. A photo app now acting as a launcher.
