I have a Verizon upgrade in one month. The G2 is currently $50 on-contract and seems to blow the pants off everything except the Note 3. But, I'm still not 100% convinced. How does the future of the G2 look? I've seen rumors of the G3, and the G Pro 2 will be released in the coming months. Do these pose any threat to the G2? Anything else I should consider from Verizon's stable?

Absolutely! I have owned a lot of phones and this is a steal for $50. Great battery, fast, killer camera...... You will not be disappointed. Perfect size also.

I agree this device is a steal for $50 but with your upgrade still being a month out I would hold off for an upgraded version since most likely you will be keeping the device for 2 years. Or buy the g2 now and sell on swappa when g3 comes out and upgrade. That's how I like to keep up on the latest devices=). Just a thought

I'd have to see the price of the G3 and if it includes anything much better than the G2. It's likely going to be the Snapdragon 800 again, maybe with 3 or 4GB of RAM rather than 2. To me that doesn't seem worth a $200+ premium.

The g3 os supposed to have a res. Of 2560x1920 or something like that, snapdragon 830, 16mp cam,3gb ram, they might be stuffing their lg odin in there instead of snapdragon, but,we'll see,
The g2 is a good phone, but, in honesty id wait for the g3.
If you are impatient get the g2. Its really good. Only prob i have with lg is that they are behind on firmwares.
Other than that no complaints on the g2
Considering the g2 hasn't been out that long the next phones out for LG are the flex and the G pro 2. These are phablets and a bit of a different animal. Usually manufacturers like to have a spring release and a fall release. I would think g3 wouldn't be out till this fall since the phablets are being released for spring. Samsung does this with the galaxies and the notes. Galaxies are spring, notes in the fall.
On that note I absolutely adore the g2! It is the best possible combination of size, weight, battery and specs. It will be extremely relevant for two years as it is running that snapdragon 800. Fifty bucks is a no brainer to me.

I love mine but im trying to swap mine with someone for a galaxy s4 verizon as i cant use my lg g2 on the samsung sales floor in best buy lol
Well I had landed on the G2 after my many phone journeys that I always do. I got the iPhone 5S on launch day, after about 3 weeks i traded it for the Note 3. For my own personal reasons I decide to go back to the iPhone 5S and then iPhone gave me reasons as why I always go back to android and I decide to try the G2 out.
My experiences so far and I have only have the phone for about 24hrs is this phone is a beast. Haven't really experienced any lag whatsoever. Installed SwiftKey and Nova launcher and this phone is absolutely flawless. This may be the only android phone where I didn't want to root immediately. I thought to myself when I was getting it that at this point is was an older device but there is nothing old feeling about this phone. Glad I made the choice and look forward to browsing the forums and finding some more out about the phone. I also enjoy the LG skin 100x better than sorry TouchWiz!

AMOLED drains much more battery during web surfing than an LCD due to white background, if you are a heavy user whose screen
is on a lot you will get screen burn by the time your 2yr contract is out. My Samsung (AMOLED) Vibrant got it within a year. Also G2 has a 13Mpix OIS camera. Galaxy doesn't have OIS only digital stabilization still a good camera though no doubt. Battery life on G2 is much better as well.

I have always been the type of user that gets all the flagship phones right out of the gate, I currently have my white s3 which is in mint condition and I am just curious as to whether the upgrade is worth it under this condition:
first of all, my family has around 6 lines (business, mine, and 4 other family members) and me and my mom are usually the only two who ever get an upgrade (mom is always getting the brand new iphone while the rest of the family just has the hand-me-down iphones) and I am always getting the new galaxy (started with the galaxy s2.) so we always have a line ready for an upgrade at one time.
I can easily sell my galaxy s3 with all of the accessories i have for it for ~$400-450
buy the new s4 for (I'm assuming) $200
what is your take on this plan? go ahead and buy it right out of the gate as usual or wait for it and risk the price on the s3 dropping after the release?
u've just answered ur own question.
Why wait? I will have one the day it.hits.the stores.in.canada. Why sell your s3 though,im.keeping mine to.have as another backup. I bought my s3 outright though and will be doing the same with the s4, contracts suck

If you are tight on money it isn't worth the upgrade unless you can net positive in some way, it's not that big of an upgrade from the gs3! Save your cash for a bit and wait for the phone that really is worth it.

If there's always an upgrade path available with that many lines, then the quicker you sell the GS3, the more money you'll make. Although you'll likely have some time, as GS4 adoption might not be as quick as GS3 was.
But really, in your shoes, there's nothing stopping you from doing the upgrade, and the GS4 is a superior phone (at least specs wise). I'd do it, in your shoes.
There's absolutely no reason to keep the S3. Zero....
If you can afford it....it's a no brainer....Go S4!

I'm in the exact same position as you man. Broke. 17. white s3. exact same haha. Except the fact that im still on unlimited data with no upgrade. I feel like most of the features advertised in the s4 are software (besides cpu, battery, camera, scren, better gorilla glass) and most are just minimal improvements considering how snappy the s3 is, how clear the camera is, how well my battery performs, and how clear the screen density in everyday use. If any of those bother you, then since you can make an a profit I would upgrade. I like them all, so i'll wait for roms that have the s4's software improvements.
Sometimes the profit isn't worth the period of having to sell and wait, because if you wait too long you'll have not as much profit. Good luck though

I've honestly been really pleased with the S4 but I hadn't looked into the G2 much before my purchase. I paid $250 for the S4 (with a $50 rebate available that I haven't sent in yet). The G2 seems to plainly be a higher spec'ed phone, that I could potentially get for as low at $140 with the current discount code available? What would you do if you were me?
Also, I used the trick where you upgrade a different phone line and then do a device switch to my unlimited line. Am I even able to easily exchange this phone while retaining my unlimited plan?

I had the S4 and bought the G2 yesterday. Unfortunately, I was outside of my 14 day window, so I just sold it on CL and bought the G2 outright. Still only cost me around $250.
First impression after 24 hours with the phone: It definately feels snappier that the S4. Playing Riptide 2 the graphics and gameplay were noticeably better. The screen is amazing. Not that the S4's was bad, just that this is way more realistic. The wireless charging our of the box is great, and the 32GB of storage shoudl be plenty for me. THe only thing I don't like is that the default launcher has 5 accross on the homescreen instead of 4, so it makes a few widgets (facebook) look funny since you can't center them or make them take up the whole screen. Aside from that I love it, and the batterly life is much better due to the larger battery.
Now if we could only find root and recovery

Mind elaborating at all? I actually wouldn't mind being talked out of this at all. I've been enjoying the S4 and this is just a classic case of "but... I can get more!" syndrome. I can't decide if it's warranted or not.

@OP, I have the S4 and debating on swapping for the G2 also. The biggest difference is processor and camera. The S4 is no slouch in both departments so it depends on what you really want.
I played with a G2 at a att store yesterday. Really great first impression but one thing stood out to me....the speaker was really really shockingly bad (imo)
Played a song on it and my s4 at the same time and it was significantly louder on my S4.
Battery is bigger on G2 but Samsung will eventually release an oem extended and (as everyone knows) you can get extended battery almost anywhere on the web if you're that concerned.
I may get the G2 just because I'm a phone whore but pretty satisfied with the S4. Lag is all but gone with updates
hmm
I wen't to turn in my S4 today at the store on day 19 of my buyers remorse period so I could order the G2 and use a loaner until it came but I decided to get an HTC One since Tmobile waived the restocking fee because of another issue, so now I have a new buyers remorse period starting today and when the G2 arrives at the store I will go check it out in person and decide. When it was G2 vs S4 I was ready to switch without ever touching a G2 but I have to say this HTC One is so frigging beautiful that the G2 will have to blow me away when I see it or I will just stick with the HTC. I too am a spec whore lol and It will eat at my soul that I could have a Snapdragon 800 hehe. I have a feeling even tho this One is so sweet looking that I will still want the G2, the knock on feature is a real selling point to me as is the fact that prior to the S4 I used an LG Optimus G that I thought was the perfect phone for quite awhile, I actually hated the S4 after only a few days.

unless you're sold on touchwiz or abosulutely need more than 32gb of storage, there's no reason to keep the s4 if the g2 costs nothing extra. better screen, better internals, amazing battery. once we get bootloader unlock the phone will be a beast.
i went from a htc one to this phone, but i'm also a phone whore.

I still have both, but I would have GLADLY given up my S4 for this phone. That phone used to lag on me all the time. It was annoying. It takes about 1/3rd of the time to launch the gallery and camera on the G2 and there is no lag. Cameras are about equal if you don't factor in OIS, which is a huge benefit on the G2.
Here's the thing: There will always be more accessories and compatible apps for Galaxy devices. They are basically the iPhone of Android in that respect, but the G2 is a far better phone, in my opinion.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my Fitbit syncs directly with the G2, something that only worked with Galaxy devices previously. I have zero remorse and will be selling my GS4 pronto.
Happy owner of a new G2. Thanks for talking me into it.
I had the S4 for 3 months. I sold it to pay for the LG G2.
I would absolutely give up the S4 for G2. It's a night and day difference to me. I feel like LG took Touch Wiz and fixed 99% of my problems with it.
In regards to the hardware and software pairing... I think it's the best phone I've ever owned. I don't say this lightly. I just think it's that great.
I have had all of the galaxy series phones. This is by far the best phone I have used stock out of the box.
I actually ordered the s4 then called the next morning to cancel. I didn't even know about the g2 being released when I ordered the s4. Glad it worked out for me and the g2 arrives Tuesday.
I don't like physical buttons anymore and Samsung keeps using them. LG has what I want despite no sd card slot. But I can manage without it.
So Amazon has the HTC One for $50 and the G2 on VZW for $150. Just wondering what has the best bang for the buck. Is the G2 worth the additional $100?

This is an G2 forum so we support G2 obviously. Having said that i am using HTC one currently and have no gripes. But if given a choice i would pick G2 hands down. I did play with the phone in AT&T and Verizon stores and was spell bound. I am dying to buy G2 but waiting for the White color in AT&T. One was a good phone and G2 is a good phone, better features and advanced technology.
To answer your question, it is worth more than $100 that you spend. One has better build but in terms of features not a lot of improvement over previous generation. G2 has the best screen in the market which is a payback for your $100. Screen has a perfect balance of saturation, brightness and sharpness. Features are logically and not gimmicky.

Must be a joke right? Best bang for your buck, let me break down some common sense specs that can be found anywhere for ya:
HTC = Snap Dragon 600 device
G2 = Snap Dragon 800 device
HTC = 4.7" screen but feels smaller due to huge bezel and chassis
G2 = 5.2" screen that feels like it's on a 4.7" device due to the screen actually being side to side and top to bottom of device and very small bezel
HTC = Crap 4mp camera (proven crap)
G2 = 13mp camera proven to be one of the best out android wise. Only downfall so far is slow shutter speed due to LG's software on the camera app. How to fix this, download a third party camera app like HDR+ and get the full effect out of this camera. Hopefully soon an OTA update will fix this or at least the devs will when this bootloader gets unlocked.
Sum it all up, G2 kills the HTC One on ALL fronts unless you like that flipboard/blink feed crap? BUT i'm sure HTC will have in the next 3-4 months a device with Snap Dragon 800 chip and hopefully a better camera but who knows on screen size. I personally think LG did an amazing job with this screen on this device.
If you can't wait, get the G2 TODAY! If not in a rush, give it a few months, see how the dev community develops on this device and what other companies are coming out with and decide on that. That's where i'm at with it but only due to can't afford the G2 for a few months so will watch and see...

It wasn't a joke. The G2 looks like the better device, but it is also 3x as much as the One. I think from the overall reviews it doesnt sound like it is worth it. I am not in too much of a hurry, but my screen on my Thunderbolt is cracked. I will probably pull the trigger by the end of the month.

Well between the two devices for me do you want to go backwards in time and get a Snap Dragon 600 device or get the first Snap Dragon 800 device on the market which will be the standard for any new devices coming out as well? I'm not one to go backwards when it comes to buying something "new" so for me it's a no brainer to go the G2 route for what's on the market right now...
Are you serious about the pricing? Of course the G2 is 3 times the price of the one, it just came out! The one, has been out for a while, has old SOC, and it's pretty obvious that price will go down for that phone.

Yes. Considering the S4 is still $130 and is pretty comparable in specs to the HTC One, I am serious about the price. The point of the thread is that the HTC One IS a lower price and comparing what you get for the lower price to what you get with a G2. I realize the G2 will be more and I know that it is increased in performance. What I was asking was whether that increase was really worth it. From what I can tell by what the others say, it does seem like it is worth it.

Let me try to be unbiased for a second (proud G2 owner)
Specs aside, it really comes down to your needs. Coming from a TBolt, either one of these phones are going to feel like you just magically jumped the space/time continuum and ended up in the future.
It sounds based on your questions, you've yet to play with either device in person and I highly suggest you do so. I guarantee it'll make the decision for you on the spot.
Let me say that the HTC One is hands down the sexiest cell phone I have ever held. The metal body is luxurious and a joy to hold in you palm. On the flip side, the screen on the G2 is intoxicating. I catch myself staring at in disbelief at how "perfect" it is.
So go pick up the devices and pick the one that fits YOU the best. Either way you'll be very happy.

Went and played with the device. Loved the G2. Looks like I am going to be the new owner of one shortly. Can anyone confirm the costco price? I don't have one near me and the website doesn't list it yet. I could always get a family member to buy it and send it out to me if it is truly that low.

It's still a great phone and considering the S5 will be released shortly it should drop a little in price, so will be great value. Depends on what you're after as well. The nexus 5 is great value as well and you know with buying a nexus you'll be getting updates for a while yet.

I got the s3 the first day it was released. When the s4 came out it didnt seem like it was worth the extra buck but now its around 370€ which is not bad. The s5 didnt meet my expectations. The only thing bothering me is whether the s600 would get me going for the next two years.
G2 is the same price now as the s4 but I am not too fond of LG and the back buttons. Also the z1 compact is on my mind but I am not too sure about the design.

This is my first Samsung, I seen a few friends with the S3 and wanted one. I still like the look and design of it than the S4, the rounded edges feel nicer and the screen smoother at the sides, as the S4 has more of a rim around the edge. But Im really impressed by it and haven't got the upgrade itch for the s5.

dont buy this one. buy HTC one or nexus 5. both are cheaper and better made. nexus 5 ensures you get the android update instantaneously. Samsung put too much crappy bloatware apps that slows down your mobile despite you use them or not. BTW i haven't yet received 4.4.2 update on my mobile which nexus mobile received like 4-5 months ago. Buying this phone was a mistake that i made and most likely my next phone will be nexus 6 or iphone 6
If you are set for buying a Samsung and Android then yes, this is the right time. The price is decent, and knowing S5 basically sucks well the rest is self explanatory. Nothing is future proof however, let alone S4.
I have to go with the nexus, it just has a smooth simple experience right out of the box, my s4 is more laggy for some reason except when using cyanogen, the camera and functions is great but I think it shouldn't compromise user experience.I have the i9505 and nexus 4 and for some reason the n4 is just more pleasant as a daily driver, been reliable and smooth since i bought it while my s4 requires some tuning, trial and error
I always thought I would NEVER need to root my s4 but once I did and started using echoe roms I don't regret doing it or having a Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 in my life.
I can say this is the best phone I've ever had In my life...
P.s. I've had about 12+ phones in my life over the past 12+ years starting with a Nokia 1600. Calling and only receiving text messages No sending of text messages at all...

Hello Everyone,
I need some help with my current dilemma! I recently upgraded to a S5 from a Note 3. Unfortunately the S5 was defective and had to be returned. Too late to go back to my Note 3 cause I already sold it so I have to use my Nexus 4 as a backup.
However, the Nexus 4 has god awful battery life and a terrible camera. None of which I can put up with for the next couple of months.
My question is - should I buy a G2 (which are relatively cheap now) and just sell it once the G3 comes out to get that or just grab the One M8 (which I had before the S5 which I like better) and most likely keep that instead of getting the G3.
What do you think?
Wait for g3 its awesome

I am going to skip this current generation of phones coming out and am not feeling the least bit envious because of my G2. I do not think that you would have any regrets if you picked up a G2 right now.
If it is necessary then go for it right this instance. But it eill be grt if you could wait

The G2 is great. Both the S5 and M8 failed to impress me so for now I'm happy with the G2. The G3 will probably be a beast but since you can buy a G2 right now online at a decent price it is a smart decision especially if you can't wait a month or two with the Nexus 4.

Don't wait, if you wait for g3, you will have to wait also for development, get a g2 and install mahdi it will fly as future g3.
Wait for the G4 or note 5 . You'll never have the latest and greatest unless you buy a new phone once a month.

I hear G3 is releasing in June, so better wait....
Get the g2, if you would wait for g3, you'd be better off with the oneplus one

If it were me I would wait for the G3, but if you decide to go with the G2 you'll still be happy.

All of these great phones coming out and I don't have enough money! I've been buying, trying and selling so I can play around with all the different phones.
So I snagged an G2 for a good price coming from a Moto X. I'd buy a G2 and if you like the form factor and software, definitely jump on the G3 and sell the G2. If you're in a carrier contract and you have an upgrade coming you can use it for a new G3. I'd think it'd be $199/249 with a 2 year agreement. I love my carrier and don't plan on switching, so I use the upgrade discount to my advantage.
