Hi I got a question to ask.. I been trying out a few custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod etc. And no ROMs seems to be fit for me.
I always seem to find bugs in each ROM which makes me go back to stock ROM. But the Google play edition ROM seems to be really cool.
I wanted to to know would it be possible in install the original s4 google play edition rom , not one which has been tweeked but the original on s4 gt 19505 LTE. Thank you.
I initially used Jamal's gpe then tried danvdh gpe link both of which are extremely good IMHO, although the latter version is still fully supported so I would have to go for that version?
They aren't totally untweaked but are as close as possible to the original as far as I can see ?
Best of luck

Hello everyone,
So I really want to make my S4 a google edition because the batter will be alot better. However, the only thing stopping me is Samsung awesome Camera. Any ideas? What you all think is it worth it??
Thanks
Definitely go with the i9505. You have the option to flash a GE rom if you really want to and also all the custom Touchwiz roms on offer.
I think you may be able to flash Touchwiz roms on the i9505G but all roms in the i9505 forums flash straight on to the phone without needing any modification to updater-script or kernels.
and IMO Touchwiz is actually really good on battery, certainly better than the GE rom's I've tried but of course that's subject to use
You definitely have more options with the 9505. And actually the ROMs aren't that great. From my experience TW ROMs have the best battery life from all ROMs, GE and CM included.

Thanks for the input that is what I was expecting!
Can you guys clarify which versions are which.

The i9505G is the Google Edition of the SGS4. At this point it is only able to run Google Edition ROMs which are pretty much stock Android. There are ways to get CM working but you have to modify things to get it working Afaik there are some people working on a TW port for this version.
The i9505 is the official Samsung version which runs TW. But it can also run Goolge Edition ROMs and AOSP based ROMs e.g. CM or PA without any modifications.

I have an international version of the S4, the jfltexx version. I justflashed it with Jamal's 4.3 GE ROM.
Is my device considered i9505G now?
If i want to install a custom recovery, must I get versions that are for i9505G? (I am assuming i9505 version will not work too well now)

No it stays an i9505. The i9505G has a different bootloader etc. So only by flashing a GE ROM on an i9505 you won't get an i9505G.

Are there any google edition roms for the I9505 (touchwiz) that are as close to the I9505G as possible ie no customizations, rooting etc?
I'm currently running the latest touchwiz rom and currently unrooted due to issues with some corporate apps I need to use, sky go, some banking apps & now an app for three. Being able to root is getting more and more problematic.
I'm going to backup and try rooting, slimming the rom I'm on, and unrooting - though the last of these may be somewhat problematic especially with sky go. A friend suggested trying a google edition rom as a better slimmer starting point?
I had thought of taking one of these roms and unrooting of course, but just wondered if there was anything suitable already out there? 44.2 would be could enough, 4.4.4 even better. I did also hear though there may be some issues with the stock GE kernel=reboots?
Thanks
Any rom that is ported is rooted. Any custom rom is rooted. You can disable root though after you installed it.

the i9500 has a different chipset than the google play edition s4 so we don't have the same aosp sources that's why roms like cm and pa are still a little buggy cause we are using a custom device tree made by a developer. The closest you can get to a stock android feel is by flashing cm which woulkd require you to root your phone:good:

I would recommend cm11 since it is almost stock
I was really trying to find a stock debloated i9505 rom and this one was the closer I could get to it but the project seems abandoned and there is still some room for improvements:

After doing a full wipe and clean install there still seems to be some bloatware like samsung wallet, my galaxy, s apps, etc. Anyone can help or point me in the right direction? Basically what I am looking for is for GPE stock rom for the i9505 (XXUHOB7 compatible and if possible, with just play services and play store).
Thank you in advance.
I know the original post is a couple of days old, but you didn't search hard enough. There is a custom Google Play Edition ROM for the I9505 in the I9505 Android Development subforum. However, being a GPE ROM, it will come with the full selection of Google apps, unless the developers have removed them from the latest versions of the ROM.
I have Galaxy S4 GT-i9515 Value edition (jfvelte) currently with cyanogenmod 14.1 Unofficial and it is terrible. My camera isn't working and apps are lagging and crashing and the phone reboots randomly.I use my phone as a daily drive and this is unacceptable for me.Since Samsung are "smart" and have released 800 different versions of the same phone, and with my luck i have the least popular version and even tho i have been searching alot i can't find any ROM at all.Can you guys help out,if you know a good custom ROM for my version,or if you know ROM for other S4 version, that will work on mine(probably not,i had already read the thread here and people are saying their touchscreen is not working).I love my S4 and want to get the maximum out of it,and having an custom ROM is just awesome, but in the worst case i will install the stock ROM.You guys are my last chance
Look through the pages of this section.
There should be a few ROMs there, though I believe most are android 5/6.
