At work we have a BYOD network and I cannot access that due to the fact that the 5Ghz channels used are disabled on OmniROM it seems (I use a Xperia T, a TF300T and a Nexus 10 and all devices have the same problems).
The reason that these channels cannot be used is because they are channels that can interfere with radar. But this is for outside use, for inside use these channels can be used according to regulations.
Now I would like to know if there is a way to use these channels (56, 60, 64, 108, 124, 132 the channels I see with my work laptop, but cannot see with OmniROM powered devices) ? I was able to connect using channels 36, 40, 44, and 48.
It is a bit frustrating having an AP above my head and not being able to connect to it because it is set at a frequency that is disabled on android (I know it comes from AOSP but perhaps we can do something about that )

Yes I did set the WiFi Region code (Europe and tried others also). Does not change anything.
From what I read about this is that you have different regulations for indoor and outdoor channels..
That is what I understand from wpa_supplicant. For 5g band you also have to specify region and indoor or outdoor.

Have you tried setting the region to one known to allow these bands in all cases? (I think US always allows the channels you mention...)

I will check some things. I have installed a stock rom on my Xperia T and will see what happens when I set my router on one of the dfs channels
EDIT:
With stock Xperia T (4.3) rom I can see and connect to the dfs channels. Will check tomorrow at work if I can connect to the dfs channels there.
EDIT2:
With my Nexus 10 with OMNI and region code at Europe does not see the channel. Same with region code set as US

With my orignal stock rom on the nexus 10 I have also just access to the channels 36 40 44 and 48 in the EU.... Is there a solution?

I was looking in my build.prop and i saw that my ro.wifi.country is set to EU. If i change this to JP will I get better wifi results in Japan?
I don't know if you can use japan.
I only saw two values
US
EU
But definitely you will not get any better result with your router.
In EU allowed channels are 1-13 in US it is only 1-11
I heard that in japan there is as well channel 14, but most of router does not know how to use it.
If you are able to connect to your router, change in build.prop does not do any difference for you.

check your 5GHz channel. if it's limited to EU standard then it won't see the higher bands. set it to 36,40,48 (or whatever they are, lol) and not the 100's.

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to see what carrier aggregation bands are compatible with the Galaxy S8 in particular the Unlocked US Snapdragon device.
In Latin America carriers are starting to use CA for bands 4 (AWS) and 28 (700MHz) and based on the research I've done, it's supported since LTE Release 13, yet I want to be sure before I purchase it and get stuck with no CA during my travels. I know some devices allows an engineer screen to show what CA's are allowed, yet I can't figure out the code for the S8.
Thanks for your help!

I believe that's based on your carrier as to which bands they provide for CA. But while in an area with multiple bands, start a speed test or a download of a larger file and enter the dial pad code *#0011# and it will bring up the menu. A little over halfway down it will say "CA - NOT CONFIG 0 0" when you aren't utilizing CA. When you are utilizing it(during a download, speed test, etc) it will show "CA ADD ###"
I've attached 2 Screenshots of each scenario
Thanks for your answer. The issue is I want to know before traveling if this phone will support CA on that configuration. I know the phone supports both bands 4 and 28 based on the specifications on Samsung website, yet it won't show the allowed CA configurations. This depend on both firmware as well as 3GPP release.
I know on the LG G6 there is a code to check this, yet, I have yet to find a comparable code for the Galaxy S8.
Is there any way to confirm this? It should be supported as 3GPP Release 13 includes it and the S8 is a Release 16, but I can't find any confirmation the firmware supports this.
Thanks again for your help!

Found this website, which shows all possible CA configurations, their 3gpp release, how much bandwidth they can utilize, and pretty much everything under the sun that you could want.
http://niviuk.free.fr/lte_ca_band.php
I'm still partially confused now after reading up on Qualcomm's site because I they contradict themselves in this part
"Not only that, but it also supports 4x4 MIMO on two aggregated LTE carriers.
The result is that the Snapdragon X16 LTE can receive 10 spatial streams of data simultaneously, divided across three LTE carriers."
So is it capable of 3xCA or 2xCA.... I'm pretty sure the s8 can utilize 3... But they worded that oddly
Correct. That's the website I saw that states a Release 13 needed for CA between bands 4 and 28.
The only issue is that at firmware level this also needs to be implemented, they can easily avoid enabling this combination for whatever (logical or not) reason. That's why I wonder if there's any way to check this. Worst part is that I can't test this in the USA since we do not have band 28.
can you try code *#27663368378#?
note this process is for the S7 SM-G930U (unlocked model) and maybe it works for you
see attached screenshots
**EDIT**
screenshot number 6 choose number 8 LTE BAND & CA COMBINATION
maybe numbers may be different for yours too
I am also trying CA here in Asia using a local SIM with my g955u. It is not working. The frequencies are supported. But it seems the firmware is not allowing it at all. Again some carrier limits imposed on customers. I am using g955u unlocked but it is on tmobile. I put a local SIM here in the Philippines. No CA. TMobile is crippling the phone. I plan to change the firmware to the unbranded one.
Also the service mode.
Only *#0011# and *#2263# works
The UE Setting I am still digging which code will open it. BUT I think TMobile disabled the code also
You can check the carrier's network here https://www.frequencycheck.com/
And then you must verify your phone's bands to see if they are compatible.
It is safe to say Carrier Aggregation or LTE-Advance is crippled and is only for use in your original mobile service provider network... outside your telco network and roaming around the world you will not get LTE-A even if the LTE bands are listed in the specs... Waste of Qualcomm modem... I think Apple still has the best implementation of lte modem... the carriers can not dictate on apple... Samsung is more than willing to please carriers... big difference...
We Surely got a crippled LTE phone when outside the original network... unless you root the phone...

Yup Apple buys from Qualcomm but their LTE-A works in any carrier. That is why they have only 3 iPhone models a year. Not including the Chinese variant which have a different lte standard.
I'm also trying to find out which CA combination works for my G950U1. I tried a secret menu and I have there 3 items:
- 2DL CA Combination (under this item is nothing)
- 3DL CA Combination (under this item is nothing)
- 4DL CA Combination - there is 2A-4A-7A-12A which means this:
But I'm using this phone in Europe and I have a problem with CA. I'm sure this phone has no problem in the USA. I did my little research (work for the operator so I ask a colleague for track) find out which UE Capabilities are supported in the operator network.
First of all here are supported bands which is okay for me because we have B1, B3, B7, and B20:
The next important thing is CA combinations. Here is my problem. In my country, we have 2CA to 4CA. On the place where I work is 2CA. And that's the first thing I noticed at G950U1. The mobile couldn't do the CA and I found the reason. In the first picture, you can see the phone supports 6 combinations, but every combination has only 1 band. And that's strange.
Based on this Wireshark log, my phone in my country and in my mobile network doesn't support CA. The question is - what will happen if I manually change / edit CA combination through QxDM program.

There should not be any hardware specific function loss. Each region might have slightly different kind of bundled software though, for example US firmware doesn't have battery care. Regarding to warranty, I'm not really sure. X compact is not sold in my country (I imported it), so I might have hard time dealing with warranty regardless.

Sorry, I don't know anything about this.
The German firmware supports VoLTE in Germany.
There are some slight differences. For example, Germany has a different set of frequencies for Wifi. In the 2.4Ghz range there are two additional channels (so no problems connecting in the U.S.). In the 5Ghz range there are broad differences in which channels may be used or not. I don't know if the firmware adapts to regulations of your current location when you use the phone in other places. If it doesn't, it might happen that you cannot use some 5Ghz APs.
Today Vodafone NL launched 5G in part of the Netherlands and I was anxious to start using it. However I can't seem to find a way to enable it on my OP8Pro I can only choose 2g / 2g+3g / 2g+3g+4g
I am using 2 simcards and am aware that using dualsim can bother the 5g option. Only tray 1 supports it for now according to OP. Still when I remove the 2nd Sim I don't get 5g
Anyone have a clue how to enable it?

I think you need a specific 5G card for that, I might be wrong. Also your mobile data plan needs to support 5G.

According to my provider both my simcard and my data plan support 5g, they even started that I should have massive reception at my location. I tested it with a Samsung S20 and it works like a charm. Somehow my OP8Pro doesn't work and Vodafone doesn't want to help because they don't sell the OP.
Well, according to the manual, you should see the option 2G/3G/4G/5G (Automatic)...
Also, I found this in the manual too:
Restrictions in 5GHz band
The device is restricted to indoor use only when
operating in the 5150 to 5350 MHz frequency
range in following countries:
AT, BE, BG, HR, CY, CZ, DK, EE, FI, FR, DE, EL, HU, IE, IT, LV, LT, LU, MT, NL, PL, PT, RO, SK, SI, ES, SE, UK

And these are the bands supported by the OP8: n1, n3, n7, n28, n78
And these by the S20: n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n28, n40, n77, n78
So it looks like the S20 supports 4 extra bands which the OP8 does not(n5, n8, n40, n77).
I don't know what band Vodafone is using in the Netherlands unfortunately, couldn't find information about this.
What you could try is to reset the APNs in the Network settings to default, then restart the phone. Other than this, I'm clueless.
One more thing. Make sure the SIM is in the first slot indicated by SIM1.
It seems they're using Dynamic Spectrum Sharing over the 4g bands but not sure which one(s) they use. Sadly the s20 does work so it seems it must be one of the bands the OP8Pro doesn't support

Speak with your provider, it's not something you can turn on on your device.
Also might be noteworthy, when I had two Sims in it wouldn't do to 5G. Soon as I put just my contract one in I saw 5G.

Vodafone Netherlands is using a part of the existing 1800 4g bandwidth for 5g. (N3)
Don't expect it to be faster then the existing 4g.
The other providers are not going to support 5g existing frequenties. But instead will wait for the government to auction the new 700 and 1400 in June. all providers are already installing the radios and antennas for those frequenties through the country. So expect to be able to use 5g in the Netherlands in June in most major city's.
Unfortunately the needed 3500 will not be made available by the government in the Nederlands till 2022.
Greetings from a Dutch telecom engineer.

How do you mean it is disabled? (you posted another thread about this)
Do you have 5G listed under your preferred network type? (should say 5G / 4G / 3G / 2G (Automatic) )
If so, then 5G is enabled on the handset.
If not, do you have 2 SIM cards inserted? - if you do, 5G will be disabled
Is your ONE SIM card 5G enabled? - if not, 5G will be disabled
