I tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142, everything worked as shown except it won't boot to recovery. The only thing it can do is to do download mode. No adb connection on Windows, it connects in Ubuntu terminal because I was able to do the instructions on the link above. But I don't seem to know how to do adb commands within Linux. Is there a way to fix my phone without going back to stock? Thanks!

Do you have a nandroid backup? If so the steps from stock to restoring a nandroid are moot.

Just another question, if I see "Firmware Update---do not unplug the USB connection until the process is complete" on my phone - is that the Download mode or something else? Sorry for this stupid question. that's what Im seeing on the screen when I press up button + power. Thanks

That is download mode, not a stupid question so don't worry.
SOLVED!
After redoing the root guide I found out that I can go to recovery by doing the down+power repeat combo. From there I was able to restore my Nandroid! Thank God! Fixed!!! By the way my phone got bricked by restoring an older dorimanx kernel using flashify app!

how do you root the phone in download mode ? Teach me im kinda stuck myself
@tmoneybird
What recovery did you have?
Have you tried vol down+power buttons combo? This is how it's done: Press and hold the two buttons at the same time till you see the lg logo then release for about two seconds then press the two buttons again at the same time. Then a white screen will show which has in it the instruction to factory reset your phone. It will lead you to recovery mode. If this won't work there is a guide in the General section on how to flash TWRP using Linux Ubuntu http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142. Do this first then repeat the instructions above.

I basically wasn't able to do anything in download mode. The phone has to be off or black screen (on) to at least do some tricks using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142. ADB couldn't detect the phone in Mac/Windows except Linux own Terminal. It's weird. Good thing I have an ISO image of Ubuntu on my PC. It's the only way I got to flash TWRP.

Hi i have a MyTouch 4G rooted with Virtuous Fusion ROM. Everything was working until when I tried to install Miui Music Player on it. I did adb push but after doing it when i unplugged the phone from my computer several Force Close came up then i rebooted my phone then the MYTOUCH Tmobile logo start up screen came then the HTC logo came then my phone will shut down. I tried to start my phone again the same thing happen. I did Hboot and tried recovery from there but it didnt work. I tried Factory Reset but it failed. I go to clockwork recovery mode if i do backup and restore or factory reset nothing happens. Does it mean my phone is gone? Is there anything i can do to fix it? Please anybody help
Try going into recovery again and just reflash fusion again.

Im kind of a noob but did you reflashing cwm via adb? Do some research first though.
Also I think there is a trick to flash an older cwm via adb and then flash an older romm that needs cwm 2.xxx but I could be wrong

Download a new copy of CWM from here. Rename the file "recovery.img" and put it in the root of your SD card. Then start ADB and enter:
Code:
adb flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

Hi,
My AT&T Atrix is running on 4.5.91 and is rooted
I would like to start using ROMs but would like to have the option to go back to what I have right now (ROM and Apps)
I just want to make sure I understand what I'm doing and keep it as simple as possible.
Unlock the BootLoader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22148143#post22148143
Then download and install ROM Manager, install CWM Recovery and then I can backup the current ROM
Then, I can install any Atrix ROM from the ROM Manager.
Is all this correct?
If yes, YIPPI!
If not, let me know where I'm wrong and try to keep it as simple as possible for me as I am quite a noob when it comes to ROMing and scared to death to brick my phone
BTW - I have titanium pro
Thanks!
1. unlock bootloader
2. install romracer's Custom CWM-based Recovery 5.0.2.7-atrix5 link
3. nandroid backup including webtop/osh partition
4. install any downloadable rom from the Atrix 4G Android Development forum
ok, you lost me
1) is the BL unlocking link correct? This is what I should use?
2) I see this requires some command line stuff, not sure how to do this. Is there an easier way? Any reason why I shouldn't use the recovery from ROM Manager?
3) What's nandroid
4) ok
mickeycohen said:

Should work fine for bootloader unlock on AT&T Atrix.

Romracer's just works better. Flash through fastboot. Get it here: Romracer Recovery
3) What's nandroid
Once you have recovery installed you will see a backup/restore menu selection. Just select this and follow the prompts. (Can take a wee bit to backup). After this, if you want to restore your phone to the state it was in when you created the backup, reboot to recovery and follow the restore prompts.
4) ok
Don't install any downloadable ROM, as some are actually psuedo ROM's. There is a common list of the ROM's everyone is using which are usually the first 1/2 dozen or so ROM's in the dev forum, as these are continually updated or new posts created for them. Any confusion over the ROM's, look through some of the other posts asking for help in ROM selection. (When you do flash a new ROM, do so on a FULL battery, and give the ROM time to boot up on the first reboot after flashing. Can take 10-15 minutes to boot that first time).

Hi
Much clearer now, thanks
But, a few more questions
Will unlocking the bootloader wipe any data?
The reason I liked ROM Manager is because it has a GUI for everything you need to do. And I still don't understand how to flash recovery from this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Is this using ADB? I have no idea how to do this
Nandroid is a full backup of everything? System, apps etc?
Is the recovery wiped after installing a ROM or is the recovery like the bootloader and completely separate from the OS and Kernel?
Again, thanks for helping and sorry for my noobiness

No, data will be ok.

You run fastboot through a cmd line on your PC. Your phone is connected to your PC via your USB cable, and is running in fastboot mode. From the cmd line you issue commands to flash recovery to your Atrix as described in the above linked thread. Best idea would be for you to Google and read about fastboot and moto-fastboot so you have a clear understanding of what is entailed in using it. It is very easy once you understand it.
Is this using ADB? I have no idea how to do this
No. Fastboot per the previous answer.
Nandroid is a full backup of everything? System, apps etc?
Yes, nandroid backup is a complete and full backup.

Recovery will not be wiped.

Ok, cool. Still a few more questions:
Megaupload was shut down. Where can I find the BL unlocker?
Fastboot mode = usb debugging mode?
I understand what you're saying about this recovery, but - I like the fact that everything can be done through a GUI with a click of a button. So I can install the CWM recovery through ROM manager once the BL is unlocked?

You can download the script here:
http://j.mp/Ate8E5
Fastboot <> USB debugging
Fastboot = power up while holding down the volume down button until you see "fastboot" on the boot screen. Then press the volume up button to go into Fastboot mode
About recovery, if you're insecure (which is ok and understandable) just do everything through ROM Manager, it's easy
Anyway, most new ROMs have AROMA so you'll be fine
I updated the CMW recovery via ROM manager and now my tablet is bricked. I can only get into the recovery but it does not recognize my external sdcard and this is where my rom are. so there's no way to flash the rom.
Btw, the serial# start with B50.
Does anybody know i can resolve this?
Thanks

'No way to flash the rom' is not right. Seeing you have a B50, you should be able to do it with the nvflash method. Search this forum for the methods, there are a lot of threads with instructions.

NEVER EVER use ROM manger on the TF101, it is a well-known source of bricks.
Bad news: you lost all your data and there's no way around it.
Good news: you can use nvflash/wheelie to reflash the device.

You're not bricked, just needed to do a little searching.
Cold boot:
Hold Vol Down plus Power button
Wait till you see the options of Cold boot Linux or Wipe data
Choose Cold boot Linux and it should boot into the OS (Unless you wiped the system)
Use PERI to fix your recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26737790
If that don't work there's a thread that show you how to fix it via terminal our adb shell.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530337&
Of course NVFlash work too.
So a while back I went through the process to root my phone and went with safestrap. Now it appears the new roms aren't compatible with safestrap (is it because of 4.3 gapps?).
How would I go about switching over to CWM? Is there anything fancy? Is there a guide? Any help appreciated.
Thank You.
Is your boot loader unlocked?
If so, flash CWM through fastboot (there are a few guides on XDA of how to do so). Flashing a new ROM through CWM will remove safestrap.

You'll need to uninstall recovery through the actual SafeStrap app. Then, you'll need to delete the app and all the SS folders.
So I am getting the "cannot load cwm.img" on the command prompt.
cwm.img is in the same folder as fastboot and adb.
not sure what is up. Currently searching for solution....
EDIT: Typed full path. Seems to have worked....

Yep that's why. SafeStrap works seperate from your recovery. If you actually boot into recovery do you get CWM? If not, you'll probably need to re-flash it. When you re-flash, boot back into recovery prior to booting into OS. This will assure that the install script is complete. Otherwise, your stock recovery will override CWM.

Gotcha. Well I can uninstall it via a recovered system that still has safestrap on it. I did something weird trying to boot into CWM and when i start my phone it goes into the bootloader due to flash failure. I can override this with "fastboot continue", but i don't want to do something really bad... am I going to run into any issues if I get to CWM and flash a new rom?
Thanks for the help fellas
EDIT: Flash failure problem went away. Reflashed CWM, wouldn't boot via fastboot boot cwm.img, managed to get to recovery before system loaded... but still went to safestrap.. trying old fashioned SS uninstall now, then reflash, then boot into recovery.
EDIT 2: Uninstalled safestrap.. doesn't boot to bootloader now?
EDIT 3: Brought up safestrap on my eclipse rom, uninstalled safestrap. Went to bootloader. Flashed CWM supposedly successfully. Tried to run "fastboot boot cwm.img" only to get cannot load. Tried to go from bootloader to recovery manually (power button --> key press) but just loads up the OS.
Clueless now

Yeah unfortunately there's no command to boot recovery from fastboot.
You can try running "fastboot reboot" while holding the volume buttons right after flashing cwm. That should do the trick. It should boot to the boot selection menu, then you can choose to boot to recovery.
Also, thought you killed yourself when I read your other post...
fastboot boot cwm.img is one argument away from a very, very bad day... If you put "flash" before boot, you'd be in trouble... Lol
Maybe I should write up a root app that will rename install-recovery.sh... That's not a bad idea...

Installed on phone. Says found but disabled. Tried flashing cwm.img and rebooting into recovery. Still goes straight to OS...
Enable install-recovery doesn't work
this all seems very straightforward of a process that should be working...
Do I need to try wiping everything down as bare as possible?
Is this the process that works for others? Take safestrapped, rooted, bootloader unlock device on an old pre-bootloader-unlocked rom. Uninstall safestrap. Flash cwm.img using fastboot comand. Boot into recovery. Then you should be in CWM?

you can either format data in cwm or in stock recovery format data/reset
or if that doesnt sort the boot loop quickest way to solve it is just to flash stock rom via odin
Remember next time before you do anything like flashing a mod or trying out something different to always make a nandroid backup in cwm - this way if you get into a boot loop or want to revert what you have done you just have to restore your nandroid backup
anyway stock rom firmware is found on my thread below
