Samsung Note 2014 Mini-Review - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

Just a quick review from a picky person like me:
Device background: Currently also have S4, Excite 7.7, iPad 4 and Dell V11 5130, as far as similar devices. (Devices are my vices)
Display = Better IMO than my iPad 4. Some slight bleed areas on the bezel border, but same for my iPad 4.
Sound = Good volume and quality for a tablet.
Build = Soild design, of course
Performance = As expected, it plays 3D game smoothly and I did not notice a framerate issue compared to the T701 I tested (I chose the Note over the T701). What I did notice was game emulators like MAME and PPSSPP play games smoother on the Note 2014 than the 701 and Note 3. This is supported also by benchmarks of the CPU being better on the 5420 over the Tegra 4 and S800 (I tested the Note 3 as well).
Lag = I see none. Just as fast in responsive as my other devices, including the iPad 4 (I have all effects turned off on iOS 7, so is still very fast).
Wifi = Seems to have good range. Appears to be similar to the iPad 4, but neither device compares to the 5130. That device has the best range of any portable device I have used. Even better than my T430 work laptop.
Heat = This device can get very warm. It seems warm or perhaps warmer than the iPad 4 with intensive tasks, but the T701 is the heat king. That puppy got fairly hot.
Battery life = This is the issue for me. Battery life is not as good as the iPad 4 or my Dell Venue 11 5130 for similar use. They all are similar drainers when 3D gaming, but the Note so far appears to eat more battery with basic use like browsing and media. Keep in mind the 5130 is a Windows 8.1 x86 device and gets better battery life so far. The battery life seems just as weak as the TF701.
I have the display at 35% fixed. The display is the mega battery killer and from a weighted standpoint, worse than the iPad 4 and similar to the T701 (which is not good).
Battery use shows mainly the display, so no apparent rogue apps draining as well. I will give it more time and see if "user error". Hoping so, since like the device a LOT. Added: I have all of the gestures and other "bling" turned off. All animation effects as well in Nova UI are off. Used Wiz for first two days, but prefer Nova.
BTW, anybody have a link to a spare cable that can slow charge the Note via USB from a computer? I have had no luck with any cable so far. The same cables that works with my S4 and Dell 5130 do not work with the Note. It allows MTP transfer, but shows "X" when for charge. Even turned off it appears not to charge via computer. I appreciate if using the deivce the charge would be a net negative.

About the same as I have found. And right on about the battery.. If this tab had the fast charge of the Note 3 and removable battery, it would be long, long time before another tablet even got close to the 2014...

Are you sure it doesn't charge when the screen in off? Mine also shows the "X-battery" symbol when connected to my computer, but when I switch off the screen it charges. Try it: Connect it to your PC with any mciroUSB cable and switch off the screen. Wait for 30 minutes then go to battery monitor and see if it was charged - I bet it did charge.
I discovered this by accident when I forgot to disconnect my note after coping some files on it.

I was hoping so, but was on 55% and after almost three hours in sleep, it is on 54%. Same trend as this morning. For battery life, I have turned everything off except wifi. Turned on the power saver mode for display as well.
I can only go by what I have used and so far, the Note 2014 is the lowest tablet that I have used for battery life. So far, at least. Hoping turning on power saver for display helps. I do not like using auto brightness.
No services are draining battery. I am basing my opinion on my other tablets I have used. I appreciate the main killer is the display. It appears to have a near equal negative to go along with the positive. It's beauty comes at a high price.
Update:
My Note must want to make a liar out of me, since has charged two points since the last time checked. Perhaps 20 minutes ago.
The only other setting I changed was to turn on the power save for display. That should not impact anything while off.

I have my brightness set at about 20% fixed. Eventually you get used to it being darker. Unless you are using it outside then you are screwed. For me it made a big difference in battery life. I can't even imagine doing 35% fixed.

Looks like it is now slow charging via computer USB at just under 5 points per hour when in sleep mode, which is what I expected in the first place. Better than nothing and only does this if not using the device.
Setting the display to power saver mode also helps out and I do not notice an impact to the display quality. I did though with autobrightness on and is why I prefer fixed. 20% is too low for me, especially when used to having the iPad 4 at 40%.
The display on this device is a power sucking demon from hell and appears ot have no equal in this regard that I have tested. Hopefully the power saving option at least keeps it in purgatory.

Reason for Battery drain Problem

Now we know the reason why the battery is draining so fast on Galasy S Phones.
The simple reason the AMOLED screen.
If we compare the Droid X with the Galaxy S both with 1500mAh batterys. While the Droid X can reach up to 7:42 hours of battery life the Galaxy s can only 4:44 hours. Its sad because the marketing made us believe that AMOLED is power saving.
Here the full Test from laptopmag.com.
Did you not read this part?
"So should you steer clear of AMOLED phones if you care about endurance? Not necessarily. OLED technology uses the most power when displaying white, which is why Samsung chose a black background for the app menus on its Galaxy S phones. Since our battery test surfs web pages
, most of which have a white background, both the Galaxy devices and the Incredible were at a disadvantage. It really comes down to what you view most often on your phone."
I tested a mkv 720p video playing for 1 hour and it only used 15% battery. From that, the battery should last about 6.5 hrs.
I was reading a test on another site a week or two ago, and it claimed the Galaxy S ran a 720p vid of Avatar on loop for 7.5 hours before refusing to run the video any further as the battery had reached 20, so 4.5 hours seams a little low?

The brightness must have been set to VERY low, non ?
Not quite true that it's just the screen.
I installed a widget to turn off data connections entirely (running on 1G phone and text only) and I get about 4-5 days off a single charge now, and that's with moderate gaming/music/ebook use.
If I want to use the internet/email/whatever I just click the widget, it reconnects in 10 seconds and I am away.
I am also running the LG Optimus launcher as well, which I notice gives me much better battery life than TouchWiz/Launcher Pro/etc (although don't hit the volume button on the homescreen as it force closes)

Well, that's pretty darn good then! I doubt I've seen battery life that good on my phone....
when the phone is set on auto brightness 90% of the time is less than 50% brightness
when is above 50% brightness it is super cool! that's when you see the full effect of the SAMOLED
if you set it to say 60% or 75% brighness you will see the full bloom of the colours.
I'm pretty *****y about my phone's battery life but i have to admit that watching mkv and avi videos on my phone does not drain the battery as i would have expected. 1h30min movie drained around 20% of the battery, brightness in the perfect middle, 3G on and all that. So i think 7h++ playback is definitly doable.
Oddly enough i have the impression that leaving your phone screen on for 1h30min would probably drain close to 20% of the battery (just an impression though, might be totally wrong).
Also, 3G drains a lot of battery. I messed up with my phone and didn't have the APN configured, so no 3G, battery performance exploded, especially if u'r in an area with not so strong signal
i only notice heavy drain on battery when i'm on WiFi or 3G
like browsing the web, downloading stuff
just having WiFi on and 3G on does not consume that much battery, it is only when they are fully active.
all other tasks like watching movie, or doing offline stuff, even playing games does not consume much battery
i can drain the battery with just 4 hours of constant browsing/download stuff
but i can go on the full 24 with 1 battery pack if i do not use 3G/Wifi
on JM1 (or maybe JM2) when i had no 3G and WiFi turnerd off, bascically it would be 2% off every 8h-10h iddle time which sounds really good. However, according to the reported capable iddle time of the phone, it's not that good. People also reported less consumption in iddle.
I don't think i had too many tasks runing in the background (definitly no task killers)

I fully agree with you. I'm surpised my phone uses so little power when watching a movie, coming from winmo I'm shocked I can use this thing for a day (12-18hours) before it dies. Overall I'm quite happy with my set up as everywhere I go I have power cables. Car (check) , Office (check.USB sync) , walking (check, 2000mha solar battery charger) and Home (power adapter). I'm power paranoid due to being with Winmo since the Aero 2130 to X1i.
And yeh, 3g kills things 4hours max when on 3g.
the main thing that seems to drain the battery for me is web surfing and widgets which use the data connection. I now run a minimalist set of home screens with few widgets and have already noticed an increase in performance and battery life. 3g is pretty power hungry, but since vodafones 3g connectivity is so poor, I am often forced to use gprs through the day anyway as I'm plagued with time outs and dropping connections (if anyone from vodafone is reading, I've only been with you 3 months, and already I know I won't be staying with you come the end of my contract!)
Something's gotta be wrong with the test? I mean, look at the Captivate and Vibrant, both do about 4h 45m, but the Epic 4G does 5h 34m? Same screen, same battery, no? Yet ~50 minutes difference? Must be something other than the screen doing something...

Tachikoma_kun, what widget are you using to shut off 3G?
I came to the Galaxy from a HTC legend and I miss the HTC widget that lets you shut down mobile date completely. When I first had my galaxy on JF3 firmware, I noticed there was an option in the settings to use '2G' only. But since flashing JM8 I can't see this any longer.
Most of the widgets I've seen do some jiggery pokery with the APN configuration to achieve the data/3G shutdown, does the widget you use do the same thing?
Thanks
What's the point of having an android phone if you can't use as mobile internet as you want? I'm on unlimited data plan and my SGS lasts less than half a day on full charge with data on. Its the same thing with my old experia x10i. So I'd assume its the 3g/hsdpa connection. I had a blackberry 9700 as well. Battery life shortens significantly with 3g on.

Is it safe to download torrents non-stop for days on a500 ?

To save electricity or going green I wd like to know can this device be used as idle download rig i.e without getting damaged by prolong running non-stop?
Thanks.

Should be fine, but I wouldn't download to the internal memory - use an external hard drive or something.
Yes me 2 , the only problem is that there are no exaust fans unlike laptop or desktop on this device.

My friend, you have nothing to worry about. Rare is the day an Android device overheats itself.
Play a heavy game for a while (NFS Shift or something) and feel your tablet. I bet it barely feels warm; and most of that warmth will be from the battery/backlight anyway, not the chipset.
The Tegra chip in the A500 only runs at top speed when it has to; when you're downloading stuff on ttorrent (or whatever), you're hardly straining the cores, so they'll mostly tick along at very low frequencies.
The only thing I can think you might need to do is ensure the screen doesn't power off while you're downloading, as I believe (don't quote me on it) the A500 won't download torrents if it's been left to nap for long enough. Just my experience from using ttorrent on the A500, anyway. You can set the screen to stay on in Settings > Applications > Development.
if youa going to leave the screen on set it to 10% brightness.
Going Green
One of the few problems with this device is that you cannot change the battery (or at least Acer doesn't want you to). As with any rechargeable battery it will wear out. The more frequently you charge it the faster you will kill the battery. This is why your laptop wont hold a charge for people who leave it plugged in all the time. At least with a laptop, you can pull the battery if your conscious about it.
So IMO, while you may be using less power with your tab you are shortening its lifespan.
Would not think it would matter
I literally use my Iconica for 8-15 hours a day (my girlfriend uses it a lot as well) and have never had any heat issues.
well your isp might give u issues abiut p2p downloads all day

Sorry, but this isn't quite true. While batteries like those in the Iconia do degrade a little faster if left fully charged, than say, 40% charge, the difference is minimal.
The batteries always degrade, even without use. But the Iconia's batteries will prefer being kept above 20-40% charge.
In fact, they should really lsst longer if you keep your tablet plugged in. They lose a tiny amount of capacity for every discharge/charge cycle they experience. (Note that doesn't mean the physical cycles, but cycles in terms of capacity, so a 3000mAh battery considers one 'cycle' to be 3000mAh worth of drain, and 3000mAh worth of charge. You could have run 3000mAh through it in two charge/discharge cycles, each draining the battery 50% -1500mAh- and recharging to full.)
So, reducing cycles will improve battery longevity more than holding it at 100%.

Note 4 battery anyone concern?

I had the note 3 the battery was terrible and i really thought we'd be getting atleast 4000mah as some websites stated but 3220mah aren't you guys concern? Seems like a joke to me.

I was under the impression that the Note 3 had pretty good battery life... at least that was what I was able to discern from reviews.
Can someone else who also owned the Note 3 chime in?
Watch this and you won't be concerned about battery any more:
https://www.google.de/url?sa=t&sour...Ot9BGMeI02GwNY_Zw&sig2=jB_BFvUf5EMKyJdT_ZwXOw
This video shows that the Galaxy S5 with Snapdragon 805 and QHD Display doesn't use more battery than the "old" Galaxy S5. So Samsung seems to have found good ways for battery saving.
I am not concern. I plan to get 2 extra battery and a external charger. The Note 3 version was like $30. Whick brand is good? Anker?

You would be correct. The Note 3 Battery life was pretty damn good. I never had issues with it, and if you look over the N3 forum you'll see some pretty outstanding results :good:
I expect the N4 to have been tweaked a little and the battery to be either on par or at least very very similar to the N3.

The Note 3 was widely regarded as having some of the best battery life for any phone of that time.
If anything wall hugging iphone users have something to be worried about with their copycat device, "Retina HD" welcome to 2012 Apple and the battery size, hardly a mention because we KNOW its smaller than Samsungs.
My note 3 has pretty decent battery life. Just make sure to disable a bunch of stuff that you don't need for best results.

since 4.4.2 update WiFi battery usage increased. so i got battery drain...
But i change setting to turn off WiFi when screen off and Battery Life became normal
On Note 4 they claimed for more optimization for power + UltraPower Saving mode...
so we have to wait for reviews and our experiences...
:good:
Even though I was disappointed they didn't include a bigger battery, I'm not concerned about battery usage on Note 4. I don't think they would've made a big deal about battery usage the and better performance on the Note 4, if they didn't have something to back that up. It would've been much simpler to not mention the 7% improvement, or just say they increased the battery by 20mAh. I'm expecting a somewhat better performance compared to the Note 3, which is fine.

The battery is still bigger than the iphone 6+'s and you can always swap it out and with quick charge feature 0-50% in 30 minutes, how long does an iphone take?
It's not how big the battery is, but how it's used. I have Note 3 and I saw as much as 40% drain overnight, when phone was not used at all, right after updating to KitKat and I also managed to have as little as 1% drain overnight, after killing some of bloatware. I can't pinpoint anything in particular, but it could be more than one program. Right now for example Google search is draining my battery more than all other programs combined and I'm not doing anything with the phone at all. I don't want to kill it, since I use it sometimes, but if it keeps doing it I may have no choice. Anyhow if Note 3 is working properly it can have fantastic battery life.
According to what I read so far Note 4 screen should be something like 14% more efficient than older version, despite having higher resolution, CPU and rest of hardware should be at last as good as older models and there should be ultra power saving mode, so I wouldn't worry about power that much, unless some program or programs crash and go bananas, but at least software issues can be fixed, just a matter of effort. For example many claim factory reset fixes excessive battery drain right after firmware update, which I had personally.
If you are concerned, you could always buy a ZeroLemon battery.
Here's the report on Note 4 screen. Remember display consumes the most energy of anything.
http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_Note4_ShootOut_1.htm
Comparison with the Galaxy Note 3:
The Galaxy Note 4 is 14 percent more power efficient than the Galaxy Note 3. This is due primarily to a 19 percent improvement
in the power efficiency of the Green Primary channel (materials and electronics). The results are scaled for the same Luminance.
Comparison with LCDs:
While LCDs remain more power efficient for images with mostly white content (like text screens, for example), OLEDs are now
more power efficient for mixed image content because they are emissive displays so their power varies with the Average Picture
Level (average Brightness) of the image content. For LCDs the display power is independent of image content. OLEDs have
been rapidly improving in their power efficiency. In fact, the Galaxy Note 4 is 40 percent more power efficient than the
Full HD LCD Smartphones we tested for mixed image content (that includes photos, videos, and movies, for example)
with a typical 50 percent Average Picture Level, APL.

SOC should use the same power as other Snapdragon 805 powered devices (hint: Qualcomm generally makes pretty power efficient smartphones).

[Q] What is wrong with the G2 battery?

I've tried everything to make my g2's battery last. I had an iPhone 6+ for a couple days and I could literally play on it for an hour straight and have the battery drop only 10%. If I just leave the screen on, doing little else, my G2 will drop 13-15%. If I keep the screen off, greenify all the major apps, my phone will only drain about 1-2% per hour.
But, as soon as I turn the screen on and start using the phone like a normal person, the battery will drain between 25%+/HR. I try to figure out what's causing the drain... Wake locks, kernel locks, etc, but it's never clear. Having just added greenify to the mix, I still see that the Android os stays awake at least an hour longer than the screen. Is that normal?
I don't get why the iphone6+ can last 2.5x longer with the screen on than the G2. But more importantly, can someone analyze my attached data and tell me how I can get the lost from what I have?
How old is your g2 and how long would a full charge last?
I'd advice you to reflash your current Rom. If the issues persist it might be a bad battery, but that's hard to judge. If you're getting a full day with about 4 hours SOT then that's just about normal.
Phone is approximately 7 months old, but it's a refurb. I think it has more to do with Android wake locks than anything else. For whatever reason, Apple phones manage this behavior much better than droids.
I still don't understand 1) how to fix my problem? 2) why the iphone6+ which has almost the same battery specs and a better screen, can last 2. 5x longer. This has been a problem with androids from the very beginning. They should be able to match the competitor.
Also, according to this article from Phandroid.com, the G2 gets 11+ hours of continuous Web surfing time in their tests. Doesn't this imply 11+ hours of screen on time, not 4?

You have to take into account what game was running was it optimized etc and hardware.
You have a 7month old phone that was already a refurb vs a new phone.
also how th tests are used compared to your settings
The web browsing test is performed using an automated script which reloads a webpage every ten seconds. There are no flash elements on the web pages, so the playing field is even. The brightness of the phones' displays is set to 50% and we use a Wireless N router placed a few meters away to get full connectivity bars.
In our video playback test we measure how long it takes for a device to run its fully charged battery down to 10%, while looping a standard-definition video. We stop at 10% since most devices shut their video players at this point. The display is again set to 50%, and all radios on the device are switched off (Airplane mode)

Btw the new Iphone has vastly different hardware from the G2
For one i will assume you are using max brightness on both phones or at least Auto
The G2 uses a full HD ips panel LCD
The Iphone uses a Full HD LED backlit IPS panel meaning individual leds can turn off and blacks look natural this also saves power.
The G2 Uses a 2.26ghz Quad Core snapdragon 800 (not the 801 which has more power savings)
The Iphone 6+ and the 6 Use a 1.4ghz Dual-Core (2 less cores and 800mhz slower)
Also the games you play matter because apple are locked down every app is basically only set and optimized to work on their devices.
Android apps support a mixture of different hardware devices so the ones you may use are not optimized.
Also to stuff your ruddy gripe the screen isnt Better its the Same resolution you save some battery thats all.
Also your iphone is 1 year newer GG with a vastly less powerful CPU that will use less power also and a new battery.
You dont state what games and you dont state what you are doing to get 25% drain an hour.
Dont complain saying that *this 1 year phone doesnt have XX as good as my new phone that i have had for 3 days QQQ)
Btw GL with that boomerang of yours lul bendgate
Also LED screen technology has been used by samsung for years now
I never said anything about playing games on my phone. I pretty much use it for email, surfing, and Facebook.

I feel your frustration but making that statement, you are telling us you are very premature, at least on the mindset of thinking about Android in general.
Solutions are always there, it's you to decide whether you go for it or not.
Also, based on which factor that you said the i6+ has better screen? The look or the spec?
the G2 set the bar for ALL smart phones when it comes to battery life. there is nothing wrong with it. However, youre comparing a brand new phone with a weaker processor, to an older phone with a stronger processor. Go into settings/about phone/hardware info.... and check the stats there. it will show you how long the phone has been in use, and when the warranty began (production date) this can be very telling. all batteries diminish over time. btw is the iphone 6 screen even full HD?
---------- Post added at 04:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ----------
when my g2 was 3 days old, my jaw would drop bc playing on it for an hour straight to get everything set up, it would only drain 2-3 %. that was amazing. now after over a year, i get about 12-15 percent drop per hour with heavy use, including streaming music, texting, and browsing. i think thats still very good.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Samsung Galaxy M51 before depleting the battery.

SS or it didn't happen
I've had this phone 2 days and so far I've had 6 hours 31 minutes of screen time and I have 58 percent battery left. This is mostly YouTube, Web browsing, an hour of downloading apps from play store and a bit of emulation (ppsspp) am extremely impressed with the battery life on this phone.
Battery lasts more than 2 days at Medium Power Saving mode with moderate apps usage(no gaming but with youtube, magic fluid live wallpaper, whatsapp, browsing) and SOT approx 13+ hours in these two days. At the end of second day battery remains at 30-35%.

Exactly how do you think a cheap SD 665 11nm chip with a 5,000mAh battery will do against a higher tier SD 730g 8nm chip with a 7,000mAh battery?
Hmmmmm ?

I did... Exactly how do you think they will compare?
@Devilmonkey27 No need for snark...
It was a genuine question, try to provide a genuine answer. Please reply properly or don't reply at all.

So exactly how do you think a phone with half the specs will do?

You're missing the point. My post has nothing to do with that...
I'm simply asking, that if you have anything to add to a thread, please do so in a constructive manner without snark or attitude. It would have been very easy for you to convey your message without being rude or condescending.
If you've got more to discuss on this particular matter, please contact me through a private message (to keep the thread on topic).

To come back on it, I have it since today and so far it's looking like the G8 Power has better or equal batterylife, standby drain is somehow bad on the M51, I checked all apps. Still I'll let the software settle and get through more cycles and check Gsam Battery Monitor in a couple of days again.
I honestly blame Samsung's other apps that aren't used and aren't able to be disabled or uninstalled.
Hi guys. I wanted to let you know my findings and provide some test results of galaxy m51 battery life. Firstly, I will outline what was my priority for that test. I wanted to check how long the phone can last mainly on google maps navigation with additional apps in the background. Also this test is a bit static so to speak but had no chance travelling for so many hours. That said I believe SOT was tested correctly for my planned usage. I guess in a real case scenario, I would need to do some more browsing and perhaps occasional screen switch offs during a break like filling up the fuel or stop to rest on a bicycle.
How I performed my test.
1. I did some initial installations, downloaded my apps and logged in to social apps such as FB, Spotify so they can work in the background, send notifications etc.
2. Once I completed the setup, I charged the very new phone to 100%. AccuBatter reported capacity was 6800mAh designed capacity not 7000mAh and estimated capacity 6700mAh.
3. CPU-Z reported Snapdragon 730 so I regret it is not 730G and honestly I do not know how to check with online stores as the packaging does not help with this. Also, I plan to test POCO F2 PRO 8gb ram/256gb version the same way and see how it goes since I get better hardware, but I like SD card slot on galaxy m51. Very useful when resetting the phone.
4. Set google maps navigation, lunched another app which uses GPS and LTE for maps showing speed cameras, road works or dangers which I use alongside with google maps. I also start shuffle play on Spotify to imitate streaming the music in my car or on the bike.
5. WiFi, LTE, GPS, Bluetooth, sync was enabled, blue light filter enabled.
6. Between 15-20 apps were in the background.
7. I unplugged the device from the mains.
8. Initial 15% discharge was with a WiFi connection with my router. Then switched of my router for overnight, left wifi enabled on Samsung but it had to continue downloading data over LTE such as Spotify music streaming. I also changed google map setting to day light only to avoid night backlight.
9. I went to bed? and in the morning there was still a lot of juice.
10. Around 20% discharge I took about 100 pictures most of them in burst mode to simulate a trip where you simply stop and take some snaps.
11. I stopped the test at 1% discharge and noticed no heating problem. The phone was cool during the test.
The overall SOT measured until 1% discharge was a staggering 17h 50m? Below you will find AccuBattery screenshots. At remaining 15% I had still over 2 h 42 m of use left.
This phone reminded me of good, old days of my Samsung galaxy s3 with a Zerolemon 7000mAh?
Now with my galaxy s7 deteriorating battery (current capacity just over 2300mAh) this is a great thing. For Galaxy s7 I also own a KiwiBird powerbank case of 5400mAh right from the beginning wich did its job when away from the mains, travelling etc.
I guess for a more accurate SOT, I would need to add some phone calls and browsing but even with I deduct 2h, it is still nearly 16 h of use. Like for me excellent. I also do not plan gaming.
On the downside of this phone it seems like my galaxy s7 takes a bit better picture, but it just might be my perception of selfies taken. Back camera is also just ok on a cloudy day. Ok but that is an offtopic.
I got my M51 yesterday and I am not fully sure yet about battery lifetime. I have charged it to 100% and about 8 hours and 2.5 hours secreen time later I am at about 90%.
Coming from my Moto Z Play I am not sure yet if I stay with the galaxy. The Mot Z Play with Incipio OffGrid Wireless Power Pack mod is about the same size and weight. Though provides less capacity (3300mAh phone + 2200mAh power mod) but battery lifetime still was bout 3-4 days usually.
The M51 is also getting considerably warmer during use.
I noticed also the Samsung battery saver with medium settings can reduce the CPU clock to max out at 70% which is handy. Not sure if there is any undervolting, underclocking tools as I think I would be perfectly fine with less performance - actually I was able to reach insane battery life on my old Galaxy P1000 with TricksterMod and custom undervolting back in the days.
I still believe better lifetime with the M51 would be possible bz reducing CPU clock and also with better screen brightness control. I noticed many times already that the M51 screen was too bright for me and having to reduce the slider to "minimum" position or very close to it. Also I noticed that the screen brightness slider is not linear at all. So on the last notch on the left side the screen really starts to dim properly while to the right there isn't much change. Also I like still to use automatic screen brightness adjustments but found the automatic adjustment often moves the brightness too high.
Also a possibility to limit the used screen area (e.g. display black bar on bottom/top) would save energy on the AMOLED screen while still providing more than enough screen space.
EDIT: One-Handed mode sort of provides this feature, but not exactly what I was looking for (like cinema-bars on top and bottom and no prominent "one-handed-mode" title.
I will continue to use the M51 for a couple of charges and decide if I am going to trade it again. The phone itself is performing well, supporting VoLTE WiFi calling but seems to lack carrier aggregation for no apparent reason. I strongly dislike the slippery, fingerprint-attracting, cheap-looking plastic backside of it.
I also hate that everywhere you tap it tries to sign up to a Samsung account. Also replaced the launcher with Nova launcher.
Below is the answer to almost all above useless posts
Battery life tests - GSMArena.com
Why I say useless ?
Simply. SOT will be completely different when you read ebooks compared when you watch movies or browse Internet.
Gsmarena does standarised comparison
I am fan of long life battery phones. I used "king" Lenovo P2 for over 2 years. M51 is better.
I'm at the fourth cycle of charge.. and got 15 hrs so far.. have done a heavy idb debloating
maby it will increase over more charging cycles?
i m getting about 20h sot normal usage
facebook lite, browser , youtube , aliexpress and playing alphalt extreme 30 min
wifi and dark mode on
brightness between 10-40 %
data off
location off
this phone have a very good battery
