[INFO] Drew Garin's ICS Flavours; On Screen Buttons and Hardware Buttons - Alpha

Hello All,
Here is Drew Garin's ICS AOSP builds on his main site, it comes in two flavours:
No onscreen buttons and, onscreen buttons.
The onscreen buttons build is the same experience you will have on the Galaxy Nexus. Drew states that this build it more stable, and recommends this build if you want a solid ICS experience.
The no onscreen buttons build works as you would expect. It takes advantage of the Nexus S hardware buttons.

Not all applications are currently compatible with ICS on Crespo. As a work around you can always use appbrain or download from the internet.

Install Instructions:
Boot into Clockwork Recovery
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-wipe dalvik
-install from zip
-reboot and enjoy!!
Notes:
Do not turn on 2D acceleration on in settings -> developer.
In spare parts turn off compatibility mode and restart for downloaded apps to work better in ics.
Need a root explorer like tool? I suggest using jrummy’s root browser.
The On Screen Button Version doesn’t lag as much and provides that ICS smooth scroll you wish to see.

I for one want to keep this thread civil.
If you don't like drew, don't donate, don't download his build, and don't post in this thread.
That aside I'm eager to see if scrolling has improved over kwiboo's version. Because other than that, kwiboo's is pretty damn near perfect.

i dont 't understand, why the onscreen touchkey version should be more stable??? if just the systemui and framework is diffarent ... but anyway ... wasn't he banned from xda???

Yeah, I'm excited to see which one works best. I'm thinking of compiling a poll in the General forum to see which one we all like the best.

Nah, he was banned from Android Central forums for not posting the sources of his SDK builds. He just doesn't post on XDA, presumably out of fear of being ostracized.

Been running this the last 15 minutes, a bit laggy (compare to Kwiboo's).
Now we have 7 buttons on the phone.

Anyone actually flashed it? kwiboo's version is working so well that I am not in the mood to change it

I flashed the hardware buttons version... Seems to run as you would expect.
Now time to try the on screen buttons version (even though it seems a bit redundant to me)

Ok to stop the matrix confusion, I'm gonna post a link to the Ics specific versions in my thread.

Just got my first reboot after 15 minutes. No reboot from Kwiboo's for over 10 hours of running.

which version? with or without buttons?

I like Kwiboo's better, but I have no choice but to use this - I had problem with Kwiboo's as I can't install any apps from sd card from file manager or TB nor my apps will auto restored. So I will continue to test drew's rom - is not that bad.

Arc Camcorder not work fine in 4.0.4_431 official update

Hello guys i am a camera loving person and love to photography
i update the Arc on latest firmware 4.0.4_431 and find that the camera is slow and camcorder is bugy in newly 4.0.4_431
did any one other notice that ........

And the wifi hotspot. Its connected to my phone but the tethered device cant connect to the internet.
Battery is taking a heavy toll, too because of the revamped ICS browser.
Will return back to gingerbread after a few days.

i uses arc-s official 4.0.4 and there is no bug like yours. very smooth and fast.

seeing this thread i thought of checking my phone.
camcorder is working fine for me.
i am not much in photography, but, for me its good.
couldn't find difference compared to gb

I have been on 3G whole time. (more than 30 hrs)
Works pretty good.
If you have problems try factory reset or change apn.

we shuldnt delet nrjweb apn. if do it then other apn not working

open apn settings.
please do not modify the already available one.
create a new apn. I am sure it will work.

Is it the camera lagging or the camera UI? For me on the 4.0.3 the camera works ok, but the user interface on the camera is really slow.
Another problem with the camera I have is that the quality of still pictures has gotten worse for me after updating from GB. Also, the size of most pictures went up by about 200% - from around 700-900kb to 2-3mb.

Try:
Settings>Xperia™>Internet settings
and Agree, of course. It should work.

Nooooo don't leave us

gents.... i think this device is using native 4k resolution..... it needs more testing...... but i nstalled aida64 and is detecting 4k res, without using the script (wm)....... there is a little problem with this..... lol.... now, play store apps are not compatible with my device..... it looks very nice.....no lag......... either way, i will further research on this.....
update: i gave some time and rebooted couple of times........now play store works fine.......
also, battery life is excellent, among other optimizations, i was able to reduce the core speed range from 180 mhz to 710 mhz.... but for some reason, it doesn't like to go lower than 257mhz..... so, it must be some setting in the kernel......
will keep you updated......

Custom 8.1/9 ROM with Good GPS

Is there any custom Oreo/Pie ROM that has GPS working as well as OOS? Every one that I have tried works well for a week and then GPS locks become painfully slow (1 - 3 minutes).

Codename Phoenix (Pie) is working just fine here with GPS and OOS camera.

I have been flashing roms for years now, and thank goodness this is a know issue (with non-oem ROMS as such). As you rightfully say, when flashing a custom rom, the GPS will work fine for the best part of a week (or so) - then afterwards the GPS lock does become much longer. Where sometimes it becomes unbearable, lol!
I honestly thought it was something I was doing wrong, or too much tweaking! :cyclops:
I'm Currently on crDroid (Pie), where GPS did lock within 2-3 seconds. As the days went on I noticed how much longer it was taking to lock on. As daily I use the Endomondo app for my walking/cycling, which relies on a GPS lock for it to track my progress. For the short term I have been using a few different GPS apps, to help with the GPS lock.

Does anyone know how they can get on Android 10 with root? This truck no work in Android 10: "ro.config.tima" and change the "1" to a "O".
