I have read many post on how to install recoveries. There is no clear method on which recovery to use and what version. TWRP has 2.6.3.2, 2.6.3.3 and 2.6.3.4. The TWRP 2.6.3.4 has many versions. People are saying use 2.6.3.4 for Kit Kat. Others say use 2.6.3.3 or CWM 6.0.4.4. It seems to me everyone always has problems installing Rom's no matter which one you use. I hope this post can clear up the confusion. I'm using Verizon vs980. Please, could you list the different recoveries to use for the different LG G2 versions and for JB and KK? Also post the links for the recoveries. Thanks.

I'm on 12b. What about 2.6.3.4 for KK? I currently have twrp 2.6.3.3 and want to install a KK Rom. I read the posts here everyday and I see another bricked phone with other people with 12b going to KK that are using twrp 2.6.3.3 or Cwm. I would like to see a common thread on what to do. Why do some people brick there phone and others don't? Is there other steps, other than installing a recovery, to properly install a KK Rom? I have never had so many issues installing roms on other phones and tablets before.
DO NOT USE TWRP! ITS A DEATH TRAP
I used TWRP and it bricked my device , I had to use TWRP because CWM was not out at the time I had to use the warranty to get a new LG G2 (I drowned it and said it broke cause of water xD) So yeah do not use TWRP always go with CWM its the safest.

What build are you on? 11A or 12B? I have the vs980 and I'm running twrp 2.6.3.3, but its the version made for the 12B OTA. It allows you to flash kk ROMs and has USB-otg support. ADB is the safest way to flash recovery to your phone.

TWRP works fine. Been using it since I got the phone (Nov). Just cuz you had bad luck with it doesn't mean it doesn't work. It was most likely user error. I've flashed plenty of ROMs, ranging from JB to KK, without any probs.

Can you post the link for twrp for the 12b OTA version? Can you show how to install with ADB? Once you get twrp 12b OTA installed, is there anything, other than flashing the ROM and GAPPS, that needs to be done. Thanks.

- download ioroot from here and unzip it on your computer.
- download TWRP for 12B from here. unzip and place the .lok file in the same folder where you placed ioroot.
- download the loki_flash.zip file below. unzip and place the file in the same folder where you placed ioroot.
(YOU SHOULD NOW HAVE THE loki_flash AND twrp.lok FILES IN THE SAME FOLDER AS ADB )
- assuming you still have the window open where you placed all the files, right-click an empty space and choose "open command window here".
- in the command window enter the following code (you can copy/paste them if you like):
adb push loki_flash /data/local/tmp/loki_flash
adb push twrp.lok /data/local/tmp/twrp.lok
adb shell
(IF YOU DONT SEE A # prompt, type su to get it.)
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 777 loki_flash
./loki_flash recovery /data/local/tmp/twrp.lok
exit
adb reboot recovery
- you will know be in recovery. if you flash a custom rom, make sure to backup your stock rom first so you have something to revert back to in case you have any probe. also, this version of recovery has usb-otg support, which means you can connect a flash drive to your phone and keep you backups on there instead of your phone. heres a link to a usb-otg cable.
let me know if you have any probs and i can walk you thru it.

I just I stalled twrp on my phone today, so here's how I did it. Download recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469995 , save it on phone SD, dcim folder. Now download flashify from play store. Go to app and choose recovery image, look for the one downloaded earlier. That will flash the recovery and boot after.

I am having the same problem can someone help.
ALCON,
I have tried repeatedly to install a custom recovery after rooting my phone and have been highly unsuccessful thus far.
I originally rooted my phone after the 12B OTA. I tried flashing the 2.6.3.2 version of TWRP using the Loki Flash tool via command prompt on my PC. However, it gave me an error at the end that stated the input file was not a Loki image. I was unable to reboot into any recovery at this time.
I used the LG flash tool to unroot and reinstall 10B, after this i was able to root again using IOroot and access the stock recovery.
This time i decided to download an already Loki patched 2.6.3.2 TWRP from their website and push it from my sdcard using the dd command in a terminal emulator window. It pushes fine and looks like it installed but i end up with a black screen when i reboot into recovery.
Whwt gives? Thank you for taking any time to help, ots greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
Crunch
are you following this guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670
Yes, that was one of many guides i was utilizing. I ended up getting it to work. It appears i was trying to flash 2.6.3.3, not 2.6.3.2, which from what I've read is intended for 4.4 -- long story short i was able to install 2.6.3.2 from my sdcard using terminal emulator.
Thanks for chiming in, mate!
I bought a phone pre rooted and everything. It was nice, but the problem is I am having trouble changing the recovery on the phone.
For a long time I had TWRP 2.6.3.4. I could not flash any recovery over it. I was finally able to flash TWRP 2.6.3.1 using the same method to get TWRP. At that point I'm still not able to flash a recovery over TWRP.
I just discovered "flashify" tonight where I had flashed the CWR image for the d800. Now I can't even boot into recovery. It acts like I have non. I can boot into android no-problem though.
When I use "flashify" or "Recovery Tools" they claim I still have TWRP 2.6.3.1.

I too tried flashing CWM over TWRP using Flashify, but it didn't work, it still said I had TWRP. However, Flashify did work to revert back to Stock Recovery.
I still have the backup file of the Stock Recovery, I can upload it somewhere if you want to, then maybe you can install CWM.
I have a D802 myself, not sure if my backup would work with your D800 though. but if you're adventurous...

I was able to get back a version of TWRP following this: http://theunlockr.com/2013/11/03/flash-custom-recovery-lg-g2-versions-video/
Still don't know why I can't get other recoveries like CWR or why almost all versions of CM will fail to flash using TWRP
EDIT
I miss read you post. I thought you had a copy of TWRP. Go ahead and send the the stock recovery as that's one thing I have yet to try..

Well now I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Even for custom recoveries there are different files to download for D800 and D802. I don't think my backup would be compatible with your variant.
If you want CM, try flashing Official Nightlies. I've heard they are stable. I flashed CM11 Nightly with TWRP 2.6.3.4 just fine. You can grab it for D800 here.

Mine never works. I think its a MD5 error or something. I can only get one version of CM running and I think it's 10.2, I assume my whole phone is just messed up. Not being able to flash CM or recoveries.

Hi,
I have an LG G2 D802 and already installed TWRP 2.6.3.4 for installing zip-files. But now there is an update (only browser, but 4.4 shouldn't be that far away), but without stock recovery it's impossible to install it I know the way how to get back to stock completely, but I don't want to go back to stock every time there is an update, installing all of them and then reinstall TWRP. I think on CWM the problem is the same, but i don't want to miss the camera tweak and splitwindow, so I need an custom recovery for the zip-files:crying: Is there any way to get the stock recovery back without installing complete stock or at least a possibility, to only "boot" the custom recovery when I'm back on stock, like on Nexus devices, and only use it for the flashing and then lose it on the next reboot?
You should be able to push stock recovery via adb or even flashify ( I prefer adb tho). What build number do you have?

I have D80210a-EUR-XX. But where can I find the stock recovery? And btw: what was the adb command for flashing? With my Nexus 4 I only used the ToolKit, because I was never able to use adb through the normal Win7 cmd, only through the toolkit...
most likely, but cannot confirm it, you ooen a stock kdz, and try flashing the kernel .img thats inside, I am not sure
anyone confirm it works that way

for all I know, the kernel doesn't contain any recovery... but I will test it tomorrow, when I downloaded the kdz if you could say me how to open a kdz-file.

If it's not working, I have a backup of the current. but I will test it tomorrow, then I have more time. But thanks for the quick answers.
Flashing the 10B recovery image worked well. But installing the update I only get an error so I go back to stock now.
I saw that flashify can flash zip files. Does it flash them itself or does it also need a custom recovery to flash them with it and flashify is only some sort of automtatisation? Then I could use this when I'm back on stock 10A (there seems to be no 10B for my device).

I've had similar problem, i think I just installed the KDZ file trough the way they showing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
It just erased the rooy and TWRP, and all of the apps and settings did not change, its like a repach.
at least it should be. but I can't take the last step. "By turning off, Holding down power and Vol Down until it comes up on the screen." doesn't works, there only starts the normal software, and that's the old one. And unpacking the kdz file with 7zip or Peazip also don't work. Peazip can do ist, but I have to find out how to let it extract it. After installing it, there is another file with the same name, but it's an .cab file with password. If I boot over widgetsoid into recovery (I think this is what the manual means) there is only a little droid with a read sign. How to get further?
EDIT: found out how to come into that menu. It wants to make a hard reset so I make an backup first.
Finally I was able to install the complete new software version (D80210e-EUR-XX) over the LG PC Suite. The file downloaded from the manual seemed to be corrupted or so as it only caused an unpacking error in the programm.
Does anybody knows a way how to flash a zip without a custom rom? Flash Gordon seems to not work.
Greetings,
First I'm sorry if this isn't the right thread for this, I'll gladly delete and change threads if need be.
Second, I just got an LG G2 (Verizon) today. It's great but I want more so I rooted it, confirmed that it's rooted. But that's all I can do. I can't install a recovery app on here to save my life. I tried downloading the VZW recovery img and pushing that with the loki_flash but I got two errors mainly.
Input file is not a valid loki image and Loki aboot does not match device. I'm trying to run either TWRP or CWM, anything really so I can flash a custom ROM on this bad boy.
If the image is not a valid loki image I'm assuming I don't have the right pair of files? (loki/recovery) and if the aboot image doesn't match the device I'm assuming that I don't have the right loki? Are these correct assumptions or am I making an ass out of just me???
My phone is rooted, ROM Manager says I have both TWRP AND CWM on my phone but if I try to boot into recovery via ROM Manager or adb I get a black screen and nothing more.
Does anyone have ANY insight at all into how I can go about the next step?

Follow the install instructions for TWRP 2.6.3.2. Then after you've confirmed you can boot the OS from the recovery, place the 2.6.3.3 on the root of your SD. Reboot into recovery and flash 2.6.3.3. Reboot into recovery again and you'll be good to go.
Version 2.6.3.2 won't flash 4.4 ROMs but 2.6.3.3 will flash 4.2 (I'm assuming), 4.3, and 4.4.
Download FreeGee app from the play store and install TWRP recovery from it. It was the only way I could install it on my LG G2.

I used RussGJohnson solution and it worked in a matter of seconds. Now I'm stuck though. I wiped everything and can boot into TWRP but I have no ability to sideload anything. I have all the latest LG drivers, even the lastest android sdk drivers, nothing is working. If I boot up normally the LG logo comes up and just sits there.
I can boot into recovery using the whole volume down + power button combo but then when I go to sideload my computer isn't seeing the device. I'm on a Win 8 machine using the stock cable. I've tried both USB 2 and 3 ports
It's done
Using RussGJohnson's suggestion worked great.
The issue I had with being unable to sideload a ROM wasn't resolved but I just used my Mac to do it instead. That worked just fine. Win8 couldn't recognize the device while in recovery. Go figure.
