I am working on Porting file manager to wp 8 xap file .
It's now only shows a loading... page nothing work .
maybe I need a Interop Unlocked Ativ S because of it's capabilities
Working well
AppPlat.Apps.FileManager.appx can be deployed to Win8.1 computer without any modify.
Actually it's not a File Manager app, it's just a file picker user interface.

I tried to install this appx via power shell but it couldn't deployed .
could you please tell how to install it ?
I checked it yes it's only able to browse and open files .
really not a file *MANAGER*
well I am on Samsung Ativ S and all this app does is that it lists all my apps under the "other" section, while telling me I don't own any xbox enabled games... what is not true.
also, when I try to rate an app via this view, it brings up a message saying I have to install an app for that and sending me to the marketplace, showing me apps that support viewing apps on the Windows Store (e. g. Store Companion)
cheers, fadenfisch

What exactly did you edit in the manifest?, because I could run this app on my L925 but only after removing the OEM capability.
I would like to edit the same on the other apps and try running them.
When I try doing the same as on the file you attached on other files I only get an deployment error with something about invalid WMAppManifest file.

I used a simple gui tool written in Chinese to deploy it, I think it just executed powershell commands because the shell window opened up while the tool is deploying.
I just have a dev-unlocked win8.1, no further operation.

mine is dev unlocked too but add-appxpackage didn't work on power shell !
It needs a certificate that trusted as Root for any app I think .
If you can send me that tool in PM or share it here to try it

The problem is, by default, you shouldn't be able to uninstall the app, as it is set by default, as assigned to the app's unique id.
I have reattached the app, with a new app ID, the only problem now is that you cannot uninstall the old one.

I don't mean to resurrect this thread, but I wanted to verify something...
The original post reads like you took the new apps, from Windows Phone 8.1, and made them to be installed on Windows Phone 8.0.
Is that correct?
If it is, why?
Doesn't everyone think the Games and Music + Videos apps, from Windows Phone 8.0, are better than their 8.1 variants?
Maybe I'm reading it backwards and you actually got the old apps working on the new OS.
If that's the case, thank you...

How about GAF, Graphical ADB Front-End
ANT, ADB Noob Tool
ATLAS, A Tool for Lost ADB Sufferers
I/O ADB, If Only (I knew) ADB

This is amazing! Definitely a great replacement for the original ADB where I always forget commands.
You should have an option to start an emulator where you specify a device name and press start. The original way to start an emulator is going to (sdk folder)/tools and typing "emulator -avd (emulator name)"

I recently broke my samsung captivate's digitizer but the phone would power on still but you couldn't do anything, luckily I had debugging on. This program was able to save everything that I had on my internal memory and pull it to my computer. I just want to say a big thank you for this program.
Edit: I know its not much, wish I could have done more but hope this helps some what as you have helped me

++Completely remade program
++Completely remade and reworked better UI (User interface) for the program

++Reworked how the program starts
++Reworked how the program handles the ADB Server
++Now you can kill or start the server double clicking the "ON"/"off" label

++Added "Open file" on the Zip flasher
++Reorganized the tabs and removed unnecessary ones to merge some.
++Added Menu bar for using the program without expanding the window.
++Added links to the website, to XDA-Developers and the Donate button.
++Now uses an installer to make things easier and to associate the .apk files
++New name and new logo.
Many changes Hope you like it, I spent a week doing all of that. (I remade the program completely)
Maybe the name is now worse than the other one...but..whatever...
PLEASE DONATE AND SUGGEST SOME NEW THINGS YOU WANT ADDED!!

If you do end up adding other general android features it would be awesome if you and Ehoba combined tools and created an android super tool that could deal with adb and themeing and more.

I still don't know which features to add, that's why I'm asking for help, so people tell me what features or anything else they want added.
EDIT:
Next update coming this weekend will fix an important bug (The program isn't running as administrator), and a ZIP Flasher bug. Also it will come with a GPS Fixer related to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233359 implemented using the Zip Flasher.
how do i fix this? it wont let me change the size or see anything else?

Well that's really strange...can anyone tell me if they're also having this problem??
Sorry for that, though it doesn't happen to me, I'll fix it.
I will enable resizing on the next update and will implement a save option to save your default size so this doesn't happen.
I'll release a mini update in some hours to fix your problem ASAP.
Anyways, some news... The next update will come with a VNC client so you can control your phone with the computer or see the screen of it.
I have many ideas but my programming skills are somewhat limiting me. I'll probably figure out how to do it so expect some cool new features on future releases.

Well right now with the zip flasher tool you can flash a CWM flashable zip
But I think you're talking about fastboot right? Does that work for all devices? because I think that Samsung's captivate, which is the device I have isn't compatible with that, but i'm not sure about that. If it isn't that might be difficult because I have no way of testing it. I will anyways try to look on how fastboot works and will try to integrate it in a test release.

My ATIV S racked up 4GB in other storage and I only have 1GB left memory so is there a way to clean up the other storage, from either an XAP file or file explorer?
It's certainly *possible* with the full filesystem access, but I'm not sure where to look. That's the problem; we need to *find* anything in order to delete it.
Wrong forum, should be moved to Q&A.
2 TS: try to clean browser cache first, and check again...
This is an interesting topic.
Unlocked WP7 had CacheCleaner, WP8 Lumias and HTCs can do that by default... And Samsung WP8 are the only who can't!
It may be interesting for the future to have an app similar to CacheCleaner!

lumia devices and HTC Devices only can delete temporary files not Other Storage!
temp files are also about 0-100 MB but other storage gets at least 300 MB and it comes up to 3GB or 4GB!
Lumia and HTC devices are not able to clean that
as i mentioned only you can clean up temp files
To be honest, ALL of the files in Data partition except that in Public folder and programs folder are in "Other".

I may put this problem into the first place in my research about wp8 jailbreak. I really wanna know what MS has done to have made our disk space so easy to be filled with cache.
maybe I will publish a cache clearer here as soon as possible after heathcliff74's policy engine hack is done..
before that, maybe a full registry browser and editor will be my target, including some tweaks specially designed for WP8 or from WP7.
I'm still wondering how much it can do with GoodDayToDie's registry library after the ID_CAP_DEVELOPERUNLOCK_API was added.
ID_CAP_DEVELOPERUNLOCK_API just enables writing to the section of HKLM which is responsible for app policies; it's very handy, to be sure, but it doesn't actually give you any write access to the *rest* of the system. There are a ton of other capabilities, though, and many of them unlock chunks of the registry... sometimes large ones.
I need to write a tool that does a really proper job of mapping the capabilities to permissions that they enable, and vice versa. So you could, for example, say "I need access to <PATH>" and it would tell you the capability required.

you have to backup your Phone and try.
I think this Other storage files include : Temporary Internet Files, Maybe Store Cache (Softwares you start download them but you don't complete the installation or screenshots of apps and other things), maybe app data !
for example your alarms or your saved games and your settings .
I do not surely know them even i test .

how many capabilities are related to registry?is it possible to enable them all in one app? I want to write an registry editor and browser so that I can do some researches into the registry more conveniently. Maybe more of the registry operation will be able to be done on device.

if your phone is Ativ + Interop Unlock & Full FS , yes .
but for other devices no.
Okay, I picked one of these meh HTC 8XT units up from Sprint. I've done some coverage for this at the general Diagnostic dial codes page, but I've handed them money, to try some stuff once I get it developer unlocked... have to return it before Wednesday at 6PM EST (18:00 -500Z) to waive the $35 restocking fee. After that I still have 14 days from Monday when this post originally was made, but I'll probably need donations to keep it a bit longer. I'm hoping some of this will apply to the HTC 8X and 8S, but there aren't any guarantees.
I first tested these dial codes without any updates, so this may change very soon.
It seems there are THREE apps that have been mapped to the dialer menu: CSDiag, DiagnosticTool_Sprint, and HFA
##DIAG# launches HTC Function Test (CSDiag 1.01.01g)
##PST# launches Service Tools (DiagnosticTool_Sprint)
##DATA# launches Service Tools as well...
##786# does too....
##522# launches then crashes....
##72786# launches Service tools.
##6343# launches DiagnosticTool (the same page that gets launched from the DiagnosticTool tile)
##33284# launches EmbeddedTool (Diag and FieldTrial)
##611 launches, but prompts a search for an app in the store, but no results. When no is pressed, it just shows a sample page.
##737425# launches the DiagnosticTool again...
##43424# the same happens as above...
##873283# launches the prl (what Sprint calls Network Profile) update procedure. (app is called HFA)
##MFG# launches EmbeddedTool (DiagnosticTool_Sprint)
Both apps are installed to the app list.
I'll just start with some pictures to start....
EDIT: All of the accessible diagnostic pages were saved in a zip, due to the vast number of screenshots.

We will probably need the XAPs. Can you install the standard-capabilities version of the webserver and go check the Windows folder and its subfolders for .XAP files? If you can't find any, we will probably need a ROM dump (do we have one already?)

That's probably going to be the first thing I'll try. It'd be convenient if someone could reversion your webserver to generate a txt file that is similar to 'more' output or something similar to that; show all the files that are available from the directory that also shows the sub directories simultaneously, e.g. File tree. My command/dos skills are a tad rusty, so I'm not sure if I'm thinking if its either more or dir.

That's a no for both. I couldn't find any xaps anywhere, and couldn't find anything worth looking at in the 2 hours I had spent looking.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can access that with the Webserver. The second biggest challenge with this is that it doesn't have a rom for it yet..... But I have some app-ids that make it a little more helpful. I've got a complete list to post soon, which will be forwarded to whomever made the SysApp Updater.

I updated my post and put Part 6 and 7 .
excuse me for my low speed net.
for Bold part of quote. do you mean you can't find official htc rom ?
check this two links :
http://www.fshare.vn/file/JBGVWXGXU4/
http://www.fshare.vn/file/TEWJCLCVT8/
I think these links are for HTC 8x but I think there's no difference between wp8 nbh files.
I will search for 8XT and 8S Roms for you and I will provide links even I find any link .
Pretty much... There hasn't been a HTC WP8 rom that's been leaked for US models. I know in the HTC 8X forum there are two roms available, but they both were European roms that were leaked. I have no clue about the HTC 8S, but bing doesn't come up with any results on the 8XT.
EDIT: looks like the ones that @ngame had linked to are asian and european roms
I'm sure HTC still uses the same format nbh that they have been using with their other WP8 devices.

I think the best work is download this leaked nbh and try to extract it.
maybe we can get more files . I'm not sure these xaps are full package of them or not .
These files are provided from a topic who said can unlock the htc 8x bootloader and get a Super CID and he take some screenshots that shows he can directly access to system files ! maybe he didn't find all xaps but if we can extract one rom we can access to all files and maybe can find a solution to cook unofficial roms at least like Samsung Ativ S (that it only Interop Unlock your phone)
Regards .

I have to go to work tonght, so I'll only have ~ 6 hours to work on it tommorrow, and that's if I don't have any time to mess with it tonight after work.
I'm hoping someone will see this and possibly donate a bit of money for this.
I have already decompiled the dlls from the 8x XAPs...most of them have the capabilities we need...and there are some interesting XAML pages in there...but I couldn't test it because I don't have a HTC

I have a TMO branded 8x. (currently in for service). The only files I ever could get to load via dial codes is CSDDiag. I do have a dump of the xaps from an engineering 8x I found on the DFT forums. It is most definitely the old version of it. I tried every single AppID I could find in there, but nothing exciting launched...only CSDDiag and the standard pre-installed xaps worked.
I have been waiting patiently for someone to see if they can download a copy of CSDDiag onto their ativ S via the Microsoft store Proxy trick (Unlike the Samsung xap, the HTC one is listed as published, and you can click the "install" link if you go directly to it in the Windows store).
I will try and install the sprint tool into my 8x and see if it lets me do anything special. (when I get it back).

I see a lot of tools for installing fastboot/adb easily on your PC but I havent found any updated how-to's that show you how to install it manually using Google newest fastboot/adb binary they release separately from the SDK tools. So i wanted to fix that! We will be adding their locations as Environmental paths in cmd. This all will be shown on Windows 10
To start off, download the fastboot/adb bianarys from the xda article below (writen by Mishaal Rahman back in January)
XDA Article with fastboot links
- Extract the fastboot/adb binary fold "platform-tools" to a out of the way folder (I recommend a folder named "Android" in the root of the C drive like so C:\Android\)

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
- Goto Control Panel> System and Security > System
- Under "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings" click "Change settings"
- From this new window go to the "Advanced" tab then at the bottom click "Environment Variables"
- In the new window under the "System Variables" section, double click "Path"
- In this window click "New" and put in the location of your platform-tools folder we extracted and put aside earlier
- (Example: Mine looks like C:\Android\platform-tools)
- Press enter and it should be the newest entry at the bottom.
- Click okay and REBOOT YOUR PC
- Now you have to latest fastboot/adb binary installed system wide!
Test this by just pressing the windows key and type cmd. in the command line type "fastboot" This should return you with all the other available fastboot commands.
Feel free to ask any questions!
thanks , thats very helpful

I'm asking can you put in instructions for Linux setup for adb+fastboot, since a lot of people on xda use Linux, instead of Windows.
Thanks its working fine in my windows.
Hi,
Kind of a shameless plug here (mods, please remove my post if it truly is nothing but a shameless plug), but I actually made a video guide following almost the same steps mentioned in OP.
Here's the video:
Feel free (dear OP) to put this up on your first post as well, if you'd like to
Good luck with setting them up!

websearch should suffice for an XDAer (e.g. to stuff like https://wiki.lineageos.org/adb_fastboot_guide.html#on-linux ), esp for choice since can be distro-dependent (could be "sudo apt-get install android-sdk-platform-tools" on Ubuntu & derivatives). HTH
Good work.
Thank you.
That is alot of work when just dropping the needed files in the main Windows directory will do the same thing without the instability of variables.

There is a risk that any files placed into the main Windows directory will be lost when Windows is upgraded, because the way a Windows 10 upgrade works these days is to effectively create a new Windows installation. The previous main Windows directory is renamed 'Windows.old' before being deleted automatically after 30 days.
So far, there have been 3 new upgrade versions of Windows 10 since the RTM was launched in July 2015 (1507):
November 2015 (1511)
July 2016 (1607)
March 2017 (1703)

Your instructions were as they should have been. Detailed. If you so it this way, this is the way it should be done.
I just never recommend messing with the variables in a windows system. They can be temperamental at best. I also forgot about the windows 10 update setup (even though having to recopy the dlls to the windows directory a few times a year is not to bad if you think about it.)

That's understandable!
I haven't had to many issues as long as I maintain the Android work space.
It's definitely not that hard only a few times a year. But I'm on the technical builds so the updates to windows 10 roll in almost weekly right now.
Come to think of it it might not be bad to add your point and method to the OP
if i type fastboot i get this message
C:\Users\samuel>fastboot
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
what should i do?

There is a quicker way to get straight to the "Advanced" tab on the "System Properties" dialog - simply choose "Advanced system settings" in the left hand column of the previous screen (System) instead of "Change settings".
Also, you can quickly get to the previous screen (System) without going via Control Panel, by pressing Windows key + [Pause/Break] keys together.

Run Windows Subsystem For Android on your Windows 10 and Windows 11 PC using prebuilt binaries with Magisk (root solution) and Google Play Services and Google Play Store (OpenGApps/ MindTheGapps) built in.
Preface: Whilst great tools such as MagiskOnWSALocal exist, it is a total pain to install Windows Subsystem For Linux (WSL) + a Linux Distribution, and run the scripts everytime, just to get the latest Windows Subsystem for Android Builds with Play Store and (or) Magisk. Plus, it is also a pain to modify the files in the output according to WSAPatch, in order to run WSA on Windows 10.So I made it easier for people to download Windows Subsystem for Android with Google Play Services and Play Store and (or) Magisk, without any faff and unnecessary messing around with WSL, Github Actions and shady Mediafire/ Google Drive links.Tutorial:
Download the Latest WSA zip file from the Github Page
Extract the zip file
Open the extracted WSA folder and run the `Run.bat`
Once the installation process completes, WSA will launch.
If this is a first-time install, a window asking for consent to diagnostic information will be shown. Sometimes two identical windows may appear, click OK in both windows.
The installation Process is DONE!
Now close Windows Powershell by putting any key there.
Don't forget to star the Github repo, if you find this helpful.

I don't know if I'm missing a step, but it stays on the Starting Android Subsystem screen, and after a few minutes it closes and doesn't do anything...
Sorry for the late reply,
To attempt to fix this, follow these steps (it may be tedious):
Step 1: Check that you are on the latest build of Windows 10, if not, update.
Step 2: If the above does not fix the problem follow the steps below:
Remove WSA by left clikcing on "Windows Subsystem for Android™ Settings" and pressing uninstall + Deleting the extracted WSA (MagiskOnWSA folder that you extracted and installed from)
Go to "Turn Windows features on and off" and disable Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Platform, Windows Hypervisor Platform, and Windows Subsystem for Linux, then restart.
Reenable these features and restart a second time.
Make sure Core Isolation is turned off.
In registry editor (regedit), go to “\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FsDepends"
Change the value of “Start” from “3” to “0”
Note: You can change it back to 3, if it makes no difference
Click to collapse
Then in CMD (Run as Adminstrator), paste:
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto
Restart the PC
Reinstall WSA by extracting folder (extract to a safe loaction as you have to keep it for WSA to work) and running Run.bat
For a faster response, join the Discord, so that I can figure out the problem so that I can make a guide for people that may have the problem in the future

This is a very weird issue that only very few have faced so far (most people have had no problems/ very little problems), so I have no conclusive method to diagnose and fix this. I will do my own testing to try and hopefully reproduce the problem and experiment and come up with a guide to fix it. I will reply here if I do find a way to fix this.
Hello there,
after updaten to 2301.40000.7.0 the play store dosn't start any longer. I tried to disable, deleting storage and cache but nothing helped so far. I don't know how to get logs to see the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Could you please open an issue on the Github please.
After writing here I found a solution. It seemed to be caused by an updated version of the Play Store.
I found the folder in /data which contained com.android.vending....
I moved the complete folder which contained the updated app and after a reboot the Play Store worked again.
Now I deleted the moved folder.
works like a charm!

I had exactly the same issue. I had to change the GPU being used in WSA.
UPDATE : Build Windows_11_WSA_2302.40000.9.0_x64, Last Updated: 29/03/2023 10:26 GMT resolved the issue. Seems it handles GPU selection differently.
runs great on 22H2 after only enabling virtual machine support.
my only issue is app flickering while using them. I have a 3070 and set to high performance, but do have resources set to "as needed"
i dont know, maybe this POS GPU is dying. Really not looking forward to replacing it, if thats the case.
i get stuck ware everythink works but the main wsa app settings. so i cant use stuff like debugging. any ideah why. its been my issue for months on all different modded builds

@D.Dubya I've deleted the post you made here in this thread. XDA is not the platform to offer support regarding the use of warez. And Game Guardian is considered as such.

I will test Newpipe on my Windows 10 and 11 PC and let you know if I have the same issue.

The latest releases of WSA may fix the issue that you have had. Try the latest version from the WSABuilds repo and let me know if it has made any differences.
