I heard people complaining about lag on the newer 10.1 2014 vs the old note 10.1 2012. Is the lag really THAT bad? Or is it just a new device?
What lag?

I have mine rooted with custom rom and it flies, even right out the box there was no lag but with the megablast rom it goes fast.
I've had some issue's with lagging at certain times. I use my tablet a lot but I'm on my 4th tablet in the last two years and this ones been the laggeist. I have not had time to narrow it down but I run out of ram pretty quick. With that said the tablet performs great and I have no other complaint. I guess root & rom is my next step cause this tablet is a keeper.

All the Samsung bloat could be an issue for some, but using Nova launcher cuts most of that out.
Even so there is no lag in games, apps or videos... Its among the best Android tablets available.
Yes this Tablet is horrible...lag is so bad..Go buy a IPad they are so fast and you can customise it!....Oh wait You can't do that. LOL.....

I use Nova Launcher and a couple of seconds from sleep mode to screen on is the only "significant kind of lag" I have noticed, which barely affects my wonderful experience and opinion about this tablet. I do not regret this purchase given the massive personal and proffesional use I put it through on a daily basis with outstanding performance, non to mention the pleasant screen and stereo sound multimedia experience.
I am actually running the MJ6 firmware (pretty old) and I hope Samsung will release the 4.4 MX UI update short after the new Pro series arrival. The 4.4 kitkat firmware has enhanced the Note 3 in many aspects (battery life and smoothness among others) so I have high expectations for the Note 10.1 2014. We'll see
iiSo say we all!! from my SM-P600
no lag here, dude.. just stutter sometimes...
Using LTE version here. Install apex launcher, turn off all the smart screen options and this tablet flies.

THERE IS NO LAG!!!!!!!!!!!!! This Tab is amazing. The ONLY lag is the STUPID and USELESS Samsung TouchWiz idiotic launcher. Root the tab, install for Nova under system apps, make it default launcher, reboot and obliterate TouchWiz. DOne. No more lag ever.
It's always the issue with Android tablets that they'll be lagging more then apple pads. Although I'm happy with the Note 10.1 less till no lag a at all. I wasn't sure how it will be before I bought. I'm coming from LG-GPAD and trust me that one DOES lag as hell.

Don't need to be rooted to have nova launcher and as for bloatware go into settings and apps and you can disable most things you don't use and the stuff from Samsung normally begin with s as silly as it sounds you will find them

Never had a problem on my note with chrome its always been smooth. try going into your app draw holding the chrome icon till you see app info at the top drag the icon to that then clear data. If that doesn't sort it try these changers posted here http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-4/293533-how-speed-up-mobile-chrome-browser.html that should do the trick not that I've done either but I know they work as I used them on my moto g and now chrome fly's

Mine is not rooted and I do not see the need to root with this device.

So to make my Question short
id like to know to know how well the phone performs after having used for at least 24 hours. I hear People complain about it lagging and being slow when switching homescreens specially if you add TouchWiz3 Widgets????
Im thinking of ordering one but want to hear from you guys. I Really dont support Samsung too much because well, THEY dont support their customers either. They say one thing with updates and promises but at the end they never fullfill their words. Any ideas???
If theres samsung widgets on TW then yes it lags.. I use tw without samsungs widgets and dont get any slowness going on.
I personaly havent seen any slowness yet. But read others do. Maybe im lucky..

yea just use adw launcher or launcher pro. Fast as can be with either of those. But im digging the TW for now without the widgets...
Awesome. Thanks for the replies. i guess ill be picking one up later around 6pm at T-Mobile Corp. Store.
Only Thing i hate is after playing with nexus one, mytouch slide, HD2, i will be missing the Led Flash which i still wonder why they would not add such feauture.
Kinda makes me think its because they want to launch a new phone not too far away and add Flash so people want to upgrade their current phones to that:/
I am using Samsung Widgets in 3 of 5 my screens with no Lag; I find it curious anyone is having lag unless you have like 20 homescreens packed with widgets. The hummingbird processor in this beast has currently edged out all of the top of the line android phones for CPU speed and it also has the fastest GPU (PowerVR SGX540) as well, offering performance of almost 2x compared to the Evo and Nexus. Lag should not be a happening thing
I have had mine since Friday, used it with TW and samsung widgets without issue, but I like the customization from adw so I have been using that for the last couple days. So far I have no complaints about speed, just hoping the gps and compass issues get fixed soon.
I have 3 widgets, one of them being Buddies now and get very little lag. Only the pause when coming back to the home screen (not always happening)
New owner I have one widget no lag at all.

I wish I could say the same. I have one widget, feeds and updates, and when it tries to refresh, it lags like hell. If I add the buddies now widget on another screen, just those 2 tw widgets are enough to make this feel like my original mytouch. Very disappointed in the lag.

Could you describe the lag in more detail? How many screens do you have? What wallpaper are you using? Are those the only 2 widgets you are using? Is the lag a skipping or is the phone not responsive at all? Is it better after a reboot?

I always love ADW because of the options and ESPECIALLY the "Drop to Uninstall" option.
but ADW would be just another program running, using more RAM. less use the better.
Yeah from what I can tell the TWLauncher is pretty light on the battery.
i just got rid of the 7 screens and am just using 1. i am gonna see if this helps with the overall performance of the phone. (from the homescreen> menu (haptic button)>edit> then delete the homescreens to your heart's content . You can always put them back by using the same method

I currently have five screens, one has Weather Widget and battery widget, another has the feeds and updates widget, then 2 widgets for stocks (that only update when i tell them to) and youtube and google search widgets. No live wallpaper either. When adding more TW widgets, swiping screens is slower than my old mytouch.

I was running fine for a couple of days and then I started noticing the lag. Selecting the Settings menu would take a couple of seconds. Camera would take a while. I have also had 3 or 4 freezes and had to reboot my phone. Hardly ever happened on the G1 in two years. Would get a black screen for 3-4 seconds in between operations. No spinner. Initially kept thinking the phone was going to sleep.
I have 5 screens with the buddies widget, 2 picture frames, the double daily time widget and Google Search. Shouldn't be causing this hardware to so much as break sweat. I tried removing all widgets. But it didn't help.
What did help was rooting the phone and running the script to move the apps to NAND. But of course there's a limitation on the number of apps. So far, after doing this, it's much better. I'll see if this holds.
The lags have ruined an otherwise outstanding experience on this phone. I'm very disappointed with this performance on this hardware.
What's interesting here is that it's working well for some of you. Which makes it inexplicable why moving the apps to NAND should make such a difference. If this were a problem with the cache, it should have been a problem on every phone. Don't understand this.
The good news is that almost all of the problems I have with the phone should be software fixable.
When it works well, it truly is an amazing device.
I'm very interested in doing the lag fix but I'm intimidated by the process. Is it worth trying to learn ADB? Or should I wait until September for the 2.2 release?

I have my doubts that it's an exynos processor powering this tablet. Exynos in the galaxy s2 is like lightning. Anyway to answer your question not feeling the same. The S2 is running on Android 2.3 which is lightning even on the older Hummingbird SoC in the gtab 7.0 and galaxy S. HC in general has always felt a bit laggy and choppy even on other SoCs like tegra 2/3. Changing out TW helps a bit but still wont get rid of all the lag that's inherent in 3.0-3.2
Its Touchwiz. Dump it and try ADW EX or something.
Seriously.
Yes as others have said, Honeycomb and TouchWiz is really slowing down the system. For the OS we can't do anything about until ICS comes out. With TW we can replace with other launchers. I had ADW, then tried GO Launcher but thought that was still a bit laggy. Have now gone back to ADW.
Yeah I think honeycomb is the drag on this one..

The Galaxy Note has the same resolution and the same chipset, but it's running on Gingerbread. And it's very fast.
The blame is on honeycomb. Hopefully ICS will fix it

Not at all. In fact, if you wanted to, you can run multiple launchers of your choosing (see which one you like most and such) and customize each how you would like. Once you're confident that you prefer one over the others, you can set that as the default, and it should be buttery smooth. Just reboot your device so that the memory used for the other launchers is freed up. When you boot your device, it'll go straight to the launcher of your choosing, and the other ones won't even go into the system memory unless and until you load them.
P.S. If ever you want to go back to any other launcher, you can clear your default setting by going into Manage Applications, finding the launcher you're currently using, and selecting "clear defaults"
Next time you press the home button, it'll ask you which launcher to go to.
Thanks man
@Jade Eyed Wolf
I dont have the tab yet but can you do a simple test for me with ADW Launcher EX in landscape mode... can you put up about 6 widget bookmarks at the size of 1x2 on a home screen and see if the screen animation is still smooth going in and out of that screen.
I hope this is not too much to ask.

Guys, when you play around with Galaxy SII's screen performance by installing many kinds of home launchers and try it all and doing the same on Note, you will notice that Note has a lot of bugged in screen performance especially on the speed scrolling while SII is very smooth. This is because our Note's screen resolution is bigger than SII. Have you guys noticed the same?

Same
I think so too. My mum has a GSII and I have the Note. I feel that hers is a little quicker as well...
Yes and I always jealous my wife' s2 too. Maybe upcoming ICS update for us should be more smoother than our stock gb.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Pretty much as you said, the screen resolution is the cause of it being "slower", more pixels=more power needed. Probably why they made it 1.4Ghz. Try using Franco's kernel and your Note will be as smooth as can be. ICS is super smooth well all the AOSP based ones of course. The leaked one was okay, not quite polished yet. Ik benchmarks aren't everything, but with Francos I usually got around 4800-5200.

Thank for your comment. This is really one of the good finding. From my first day usage of note and s2, I already noticed on the screen performance as I bought it on same day.
I really do not bother to play around with flashing or rooting as Im concerned my note could be bricked and that is the reason why I'm have been with stock gb over 2 months. But feeling sometime want to hack it too due to slow screen performance.

Funny I was thinking that my skyrocket was faster too. Kinda miss my skyrocket lol
I tried ADW Launcher and scrolling in the app drawer was really laggy.
On ADW EX however, it's smooth as butter.
I can't see the difference on my Note or a SGS2.
Also, I can't see any difference between both TouchWiz launchers in terms of smoothness.
Some games most definitely do lag. Where they don't on the SGS2.
Note: 1280x800=1.024.000
SGS2: 800x480=384.000
So the Note has 2.6666 times more pixels, but the gpu is the same ARM Mali400 in both devices.

You can try by:
Installing Go launcher on both devices, adding 6 home pages, putting the screen fully of go widgets like:
face book widget
twitter widget
email widget
Calendar widget
message widget and make sure you resize it to full screen for each widget in the home screen page. Also put some Samsung widgets like photo frame widget, App widget, news widgets and scrolling screen the same on both devices then tell me what u notice.
For TW on note & s2, I can say screen performance on note almost the same which is 93% of s2.
Do also try adw launcher on both devices and just scroll the screen and u will see the different too.

Ill give a few reason as to why I feel the screen performance is slower on the note as compared to the SGSII.
First, I think its because the note wasnt really as fine tuned as the sgs2 for perfect performance. I mean the hardware was really made for the sgs2 and they had a pretty good time to optimize it to perfection. Some original SGSII users will admit that when it was released it wasnt as smooth as some of the newer builds, meaning months after release it was performing crazy good. Same with note, the newest rom, lc1 is actually smooth as butter. I can only imagine it will get better with a fully optimized ICS rom.
Second, as others mentioned, the screen res, but i think with ics it will be no problem.
Third, this maybe just me, but i think because of how big the screen on the note is maybe thats why it seems slower. I mean on iphone or smaller screens ots harder to notice lag. On tablets its very easy to notice lag.

Oh yeah, what about comparing the iPad 2/3 and the iPhone 4S? I don't see any type of lag or time difference when using all 3. Sure the animation might take a micro second longer, but that is definitely not lag. HC on the other hand does lag, a lot, but when using ICS, I do see a noticeable speed bump.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
I had a SG2 before the Note and it was zippier. But the bigger screen makes up for that.
Note - 3x higher resolution than S2. More processing power needed. Comparison is pointless. Either get this or S2. Move on and wait for ICS.

has zero lag. the Note does lag more. Its a pretty large screen though. I use the Cube animation with GoLauncher with 20 widgets and yeah that lags LOL

I found the complete opposite. Stock for stock I think yes my Skyrocket was slightly faster doing something like flipping screens, but at most other things the Note feels faster to me. Especially the App Drawer, I always felt the app drawer load was sluggish on the skyrocket, regardless of Rom/Launcher used. With AOSP ICS on the Note the App Drawer is super smooth.
I seriously hate the entire framework! lol. I want to get an AOSP rom already!
Not being impatient, just saying that touchwiz sucks compared to the android experience
What sucks about it? The custom vibrate for calls? The direct dial from a contract? The option to disable apps that you don't want to run? The ability to hide icons in the app drawer? The motion settings? The customizable lock screen icons? The lock screen weather? The lock screen news? The smart stay feature? The ability to use custom fonts at different sizes? The tap to top feature? Etc........
I really enjoy touchwiz, it just makes everything, shall I say, easier..

I wouldn't say I hate it, but I'm quite sure I'll use cm9/10 or aokp as a daily driver when they become available. TW is OK, the device runs well but I don't thing more is always better and Samsung definitely packed as many software additions into this phone as they probably saw possible.

You can disagree all you want, that doesn't change what my experience was on my phone. TW is head and shoulders more smooth, fluid and fast. The only way I was able to get either of them close to TW in those departments was using Nova, but even then I had to have the speed set to "faster than light" and power saving mode had to be turned off....TW is smoother, faster and more fluid with power savings on compared to any of the launchers I've tried.
I like tochwiz. It's much better than Sense was on my Evo OG. Then again, I've always preferred stock plus root. It seems like none of the launchers or ROMs work as they should.

I disagree. Your signature is annoying as well. Maybe size it to something other than obnoxious.
I love tw. I haven't even thought about installing a replacment launcher let alone installing a custom rom. Its so smooth! Then again in coming from motoblur..

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this issue, since there are many reports, yet we don't have a dedicated thread to try and understand what is the cause.
So, as far as I understand, when you first get the device, before you install anything, it runs smoothly like an HTC ONE, no matter how fast or how long you're using it. There are numerous reviews of the LG G2 to back this up.
As far as I understand, things begin to deteriorate when you start to install more apps and widgets. And eventually after you've install enough apps and widgets, the device becomes laggy like the average Samsung device (and not like the HTC ONE). I've read reports from people who said that at some situations (when the device is loaded with apps/widgets) when they press the "HOME" button, it takes the LG G2 5 full seconds to re-draw the home screen. This is unacceptable even with my 2.5 years old Galaxy S2, not to mention with a 2.3Ghz flagship quad core device.
What I'm trying to understand is:
1. Is it more apps, or more widgets, which cause the problem ?
2. Is it a problem of memory management ? how come the HTC ONE (which also has 2GB RAM) doesn't lag or stutter at all?. It does seem to be a memory management problem, because before you install apps/widgets on the LG G2, it runs 100% smoothly.
3. Is this a problem with the stock launcher only ? meaning, if you are one of those people whose LG G2 started to stutter because you've installed too many apps/widgets, does installing a third party launcher (like Nova, etc.) immediately solve the problem ?
Damn, how many apps have u installed? I have 200++ apps and my homescreen has tons of widgets and my phone is as fast as the first time i got it

Are you using the stock launcher ?
Is it completely lag-free as the first day you received it before you installed apps ?
Haven't heard this issue mentioned before on the LG G2.
I have had the phone 2 weeks, 100+ apps, stock launcher (albeit only 3 screen filled), about 5 widgets loaded.
No lag at all, fastest smoothest Android I've ever used.
did you root or install a third party launcher? some apps (usually slide from swiping fingers from left or right side) are not quite compatible with nova launcher and can cause lag. it would be nice if you could post the screen of running apps / cached apps

Ok, then maybe it's a problem with using more than 3 screens at the stock launcher ?

ok, are you talking about the launcher redraw lag stutter issue? if so, it's not the phone, and it's now how many widgets and screens you have.(i had 3 widgets split between only 3 screens..) . it's that the stock launcher just redraws all the time and it stutters when you try to switch screens as its redrawing.
solution, try another launcher until we get a fix to lock launcher in memory. v6 supercharger has this option, but it doesn't work. believe me, I spent hours one night setting up v6 for bulletproof launcher and it still redraws.
I've had the phone since launch day on Verizon, and I don't have any lag or stutter besides the stock launcher stutter, but I've been using nova now, so i literally have no lag whatsoever.

Never had this problem. Using stock launcher or the Themer launcher. I would love to see a video of this actually happening.

Here is an example of the lag issue I'm talking about with the LG G2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpn-hZnEPqg
I have around 100 aps and it's ok.
But when I want around 30+ widgets - homescreen is lagging heavily like in op post. This is both in LG stock launcher and Nova launcher. For comparison I installed 60 widgets on my old samsung note 10.1 - stock touchwiz - in it was running smooth. I even created a thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469207
So I just stuck to standart design without to many widgets, but it's surely LG ui code bugs somewhere. Try it: create 8 screens with 6 different widgets on each.

So far No problem on My device with around 150 apps installed and running nova launcher, as I saw from other forums, such shuttering is not a common problem, But I have seen people having YouTube and browser lag issue

I have 5 home screens with widgets and apps and the only time i've see the homescreen slow to load is when first booting it up after a restart. other than that it hasn't lagged. been using it for almost a month now and have no complaints.
not sure how it's a common problem when this is really the first I've heard about it.

btw op are you on Verizon? seems the issue is the Verizon launcher more so than the att launcher. att seems to redraw less.

I'm rooted on nova launcher with swipepad, swapps, 12 widgets and a hundred apps. Haven't experienced a single lag. Swipepad and swapps are there in an instance too.

The way to check is first go to home, swipe to right or left to next page, then quickly pull the notification bar, then if it causes lag, then maybe the app not so friendly with Nova, I got No problem with lmt launcher But some slide app

So do you greenify the apps that don't need to run in the background? Also have you debloated the stock rom or run clean Rom? Have you removed the widgets one at a time until you find the culprit. It does look like a redraw but it seems to be caused by something that updates every time you go back to the home screen.

I have around 200 apps. 2 screens filled, clock widget on my home screen. 5 widgets on another screen. All icons themed using the stock launcher. Did my very best to duplicate the video. Around 10 time or so and not one redraw.
Conclusion. Retun your phone and try a diff one. There not all the same and some bad apples get through. My buddy had 3 htc ones with issues. I went though 2 gnex. It happens. If it's still doing it, try something else. I personally could not be happier with my g2. Its a beast and I am so freaking pleased with the optimusui. I almost don't want pure android anymore.

I think the term 'lag' is subjective cause what the OPer sees as lag another person may not see as lag. I for one see stuttering and not just with redrawing of the stock launcher, i'm using an ATT variant with a rooted, stock ROM BTW. I have about 150 apps, one home screen with one widget, one folder and 15 apps. I'm coming from an HTC One which i still have, rooted, running Viper One and prior to that i had a Nexus 4. Comparing my experience with the these devices i can say that there is a bit of stuttering throughout the G2's interface. Don't get me wrong the apps launch faster on the G2 , but the transition animation between pressing the app and it actually opening seems a bit jerky by comparison. Its not as smooth as the HTC One while scrolling the same apps side by side nor is it even close to being as smooth as the stock android running N4. I'm not equating smoothness to speed, because the G2 easily outpaces them both but jerks a lot doing it. I tried Clean ROM, didn't help much, so now i'm just in the waiting/researching phase to get this sorted out but the stuttering is real, at least for me. My friend should be getting a T Mobile variant this weekend so i'll do a comparison then.
