I have run into a situation where i have no rom loaded or available to install on my ls980. I do have Philz Clockwork mod installed and working and am also able to get into download mode. I figured it would be as simple as "Install zip from sideload" and an adb sideload from the computer. Unfortunately I have not had any luck getting the computer to recognize the device when in Clockwork Mod. It seems to be a driver issue, but I have tried many versions of the LG United Phone Driver with no luck. In device manager, it is listed as LG-LS980, with an error that no driver can be found. Adb is working for me, but does not list any devices under "ADB devices", I assume because the device is not finding a driver. I am on Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe try Koush Universal drivers...
My LG G2 D800 is stuck in (TWRP) recovery. I don't have a ROM backup. The rom I was going to load on my sdcard is bad. How can I get a new rom on there?
I assume if I had a phone sim reader/writer I could do it. Don't think they exist. Any ideas how to accomplish this? Thanks all!
(Cant use ADB since phone is in recovery mode)

Thanks for the help. When I go to "advanced". I start adb sideload. I then plug my usb cord into pc. I bring up a cmd prompt. when I type adb devices it doesn't find it. Is there a special driver or gif needed for sideload?
Before I bricked this I had ADB sdk working just fine.

You should be able to access the device via adb while in recovery. If not you probably lack the proper drivers.
Download the appropriate drivers from the LG website (or search for "LG United Mobile Driver") and install them.
After that you should be able to access the phone via adb and then you can either adb push the rom zip or sideload one.
(If that didn't work try the drivers inside Googles Android SDK)
Thanks!!

Nice Glad I could help...
Hello,
i delete the System and Data on my LeEco Le Pro3.
TWRP is installed.
Can i flash a rom with an usb flash drive in TWRP or fastboot?
greeting gizez
Boot into TWRP and use MTP to transfer ROM file from your PC to Phone. Then flash the ROM.
I have this problem, but I can't see the phone when connected to a PC. adb sideload doesn't work (adb devices doesn't find anything). Do I need to install driver for the phone? I originally used fastboot to unlock the bootloader and flashed TWRP, then installed LineageOS and gapps just fine. I then proceeded to wipe system in TWRP (I was trying to get back to new phone setup so I can transfer stuff from old phone, which I skipped the first time).
Any idea how to get around this? I tried plugging in pen drive through an micro USB OTG and a usb-c to micro usb adapter, but it's not recognized in TWRP, either. Would very much appreciate any help!
You can get your data. First try to connect phone while is in TWRP. Your phone can be detected as file manager. Try this.
If not, check my theme;

Go Advanced -> ADB Sideload, type "adb sideload aicp_zl1_n-12.1-NIGHTLY-20170516.zip" (zip of OS should be downloaded and put into "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" installation folder with name as same as the text of command). It should let you turn on system.

Also "adb push" command can be helpful. Sometimes phone is not current on adb devices list, but you can also try. As i remember, target should be /sdcard/0

Thanks, but unfortunately no luck. Both adb sideload and adb push said error - device '(null)' not found. It seems like the PC is not recognizing the phone. I checked device manager on the PC, it showed LEX727. I right-click and had it install the driver. It says driver successfully installed. Then device manager showed MTP device with a !. I again tried having driver installed, but this time it doesn't find any driver.
I'm at my wit's end... Any more suggestion?
TWRP and/or Minimal ADB isn't trouble here? Tried you both on main menu of TWRP and in ADB Sideload mode? You can also try do it trough bootloader, for this check my link and read all.

Actually, the problem is solved, by using another PC. This one showed LEX727 in windows explorer as soon as i plug in the phonr (in twrp). I was able to drag and drop the zip files to the phone and go on my merry way. Now back in business!
So I tried to root my Xiaomi mi 9t again (1st time was a success on MIUI 10), now I'm on MIUI 11.0.6.0 and I can't use ADB since it won't show on fastboot.
However, I can see my device when I'm not in fastboot...
OEM is UNLOCKED
USB DEBUGGING is ON
I have tried basically all options available.. reinstalling drivers and trying different USB ports and cables.
Device manager won't show "Android ADB interface" while in fastboot
The way I tried to root was this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-9t/how-to/guide-easiest-to-root-twrp-t4000209

You cannot use ADB commands in Fastboot, only fastboot commands
For ADB commands, you must be booted to Android
Please distinguish ADB and fastboot
In system, for ADB, try:
>> adb devices
In Fastboot, try:
>> fastboot devices
If everything is ok, both will respond with your device ID (same you also see in the folder name when making TWRP backup)

It didn't work with fastboot commands either, didn't know that there was a difference, so didn't point that out. But yea.. no luck with fastboot commands.

Which ADB/Fastboot tool have you installed? Tried Mini ADB & Fastboot?
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mOBkqL92MF7s7rhkX2cD7i7dSD6_sd-K/view?usp=drivesdk
If you're sure that you have the needed drivers installed and tried different usb ports/cables ADB and Fastboot should work.
When you are booted to Android, connected to PC and enter "adb devices" take a look on your mobile, there should appear a prompt to allow usb debugging. Only if you agree adb (when booted to Android) and fastboot (in fastboot mode as @zgfg posted) will work.

The same issue happened to me once. I installed 'Mi Unlock' tool from here (https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html), and that tool installed the necessary drivers. On the top right of the Mi Unlock interface, there's the settings icon, and that has the option to install the drivers. After rebooting, the Device Manager showed ADB interface. Try it.
On another occasion, 'MiFlash' tool (https://c.mi.com/thread-1857937-1-0.html) helped to install the necessary drivers in the same way to solve the issue.
I faced this issue and redownloaded the adb tools to a separate location and it worked.
I faced this issue and just used another USB cable.

Perhaps something went wrong in the root procedure. May be the only option is to flash the ROM again via fastboot, install TWRP and root by Magisk zip.

Yes. Most of the time that solves such issues.

No, you can't flash from MiFlash while the device is on.
I haven't done this as I always use either TWRP or fastboot for updates but might I suggest updating MIUI from OTA. I think, it will download the necessary file to the device, and then you can go to the stock recovery and flash the update. Some other user here may have a better input on this.

What's OTP ? do you mean OTA ?
I got the exact same problem as the OP. I can't get a device (it doesn't show anything in windows neither in linux) when in fastboot. I think it's related to a MIUI rom global/EAE mismatch with the real usb chips in the phone and it screws any possibility to flash anything but authorized MIUI OTA updates. The 12 update apparently changed something : before that, fastboot device was just unrecognized (00/00 for device/vendor), and after that there nothing at all, nada, not even unrecognized device.
