How to bring my S4 back to life??? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I've searched high and low for a solution and after two nights of no result, maybe the best way to figure this out is to ask here and hopefully someone could help me!
-I was on MK2
-Rooted the phone successfully.
-I tried to install clockworkmod via ROM MANAGER, obviously, this did not work. I can only get into the stock recovery.
-Tried it with ODIN as well, the process kept failing so I gave up.
-I then found SAFESTRAP.
-This recovery works and I managed to backup my system, it is currently on the miniSD.
-Then using safestrap, I tried to flash cyanogen. This was a dumb move.
-My phone stopped working since then.
-It will either stay on the charge icon when plugged in, or stuck at the "custom" splash screen when not plugged in.
-I can no longer get into Safestrap. I was not able to get into the stock recovery either, but it's working now.
-So I can get into download mode, recovery mode, but nothing else.
-I've downloaded all the stock firmwares that I could find, even trying with ODIN but the processed fails every time.
The firmware I found were: I9505XXUFNA5, I337UCUAMDB_I337ATTAMDB_ATT
-I've tried different versions of ODIN and different USB ports and cables and such.
-I've also tried KIES (I was desperate!) and that did not work either because it kept failing and I decide to quit after it gave the same results several times.
I can get into Download mode or Recovery.
Anyone has any bring idea about how to fix this? I figured since the phone still boots into the two modes so it's not completely lost yet! I really appreciate any help!

[Q] Safestrap on MK3, cant load ROMs

NOTE: I typo'd the thread title, it's supposed to say MF3 not MK3.
I have been unable to get a rom working on SafeStrap (AT&T SGH-I337, MF3). I have SafeStrap loaded and working just fine.
This is the process im using to load a rom, please let me know if im doing something wrong or if you got any further advice:
I create the rom-slot, default values.
Then I goto Wipe, and use the "Slide to reset to factory"
Then i goto Install, select the ROM zip file (ive tried several, all have been verified to work on my setup such as darkstalker, gpe, or graviton)
After that's complete i will do install again but select my mk3 components to fix wifi etc. Ive tried with and without this step.
After all this is done and i reboot, it goes to the Safestrap enabled screen and after the 10 second wait the screen goes black and a few seconds later the options and back button on the phone turn off. after a while it'll reboot and loop the same.
And that's as far as i get, everytime =$ I can jump back to stock-rom just fine
Any info you got, advice, etc?
Today I tried flashing my backed up stock rom (from stock-slot) to rom1 slot. This did the same thing. Black screen after "Safestrap Enabled" and several seconds later, the lights of the menu and back button on the phone go out. A minute or two later, I get two vibrations and it loops back to the start from there. >.<

I'm not sure that u are on MF3 or MK2.......Both using different Safestrap version......MF3 use SS-v3.65 and MK2 use SS-v3.71 but your is MK3.....i dunno if there is new MK3 firmware just update lately.......Deadly venom SS edition just released couples hours ago for MK2+SS-v 3.71 users....... everything worked.....for link and guide check Post #4 DVSS_EDITION_ML6. ...

I apologize about that, it is MF3. I did in fact have SafeStrap 3.71. So I odin flashed back to stock. Re-rooted and re-installed SafeStrap 3.65. Slightly different results, when I try to install a ROM after it gets to the SafeStrap Enabled screen, it goes black and then starts this strange 2 vibrations, pause several seconds, 1 vibration, and it repeats that 2-1-2-1-2-1 vibration pattern until i reboot it.
So still no luck, can't get a ROM installed. Any idea?
P.S. im going to try and correct the thread title to reflect the right MF3

Yes i did read that. As a matter of fact that is the rom i tried very first. Same results.
Im in the exact same boat as OP

Everything went according to plan, tried a few different roms.
Flash says it goes through, reboots, get the safestrap enabled screen, wait ten seconds... phone just reboots over and over.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 AT&T Stuck on Boot (SOLVED!)

Hello,
Problem:
I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 model from AT&T with a locked bootloader. While using safestrap I accidentally checked the /system folder while wiping the STOCK ROM. I didn't yet have another working ROM loaded onto the phone (Safestrap allows you to boot from multiple different ROMS). My phone now freezes at the Samsung logo when I try to boot normally, and I can't reflash the stock ROM in download mode as the bootloader is still locked (I can, however, boot into download mode).
My phone is recognized by ADB which (theoretically) means I can push files back to the device. I haven't yet tried although I'm afraid it may not work as only 2/3 drivers successfully install on my computer when I plug the phone in.
My request from the great tech gods at XDA Forums:
1) If anyone can please reply with any ideas/solutions to my problem I would greatly appreciate it. (PLEASE, ANYTHING. I'M DESPERATE!)
2) If anyone could supply me with a download for the Galaxy s4 I337 /system folder I could attempt to use ADB to push it onto the phone and reboot. WARNING: I'm not an expert on Android and know nothing about the /system folder. Using the /system folder from your personal phone could supply me with very personal information about you/your phone. Please only do this if you know what you're doing!
My ideas:
1) Use android ADB to push the missing files back to my phone, although I don't know if I deleted the entire /system folder or just select things inside it. Also I can't find any downloads for a /system folder anywhere on the Internet.
2) Take it back to AT&T and play dumb. Hopefully they can at least temporarily unlock the bootloader to reflash the stock ROM for me.
Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated,
JT
PS: If you need any more information please leave a reply and I will update the post ASAP. :good:
EDIT: I am running 4.3 Jellybean. Also in answer to your response, I can't flash the firmware again as the bootloader is locked. (Unless I'm missing something and you know more than me, I'm no expert.)
EDIT 2: Looks like I may be wrong and you can reflash the stock ROM on my locked bootloader. Also, for future responses, my S4 has the MF3 baseband although I'll try the thread you suggested. (With the files for my device of course)
EDIT 3: Having trouble flashing stock firmware again with ODIN even though I've now been told that it's possible, read below for more details. I think it's due to the PIT file or the fact that I was running 4.3 and I believe I am trying to flash back to 4.2.2. Please help!
SOLVED: Thanks to ted77usa, I flashed the MK2 stock ROM to my phone through ODIN and this time everything went without a hitch. THANKS A TON!
Also if any mods want to move/delete/do whatever with this post feel free to do so, I don't see this post being very useful for educational purposes as my logic on locked bootloaders was wrong and I don't want people getting the wrong idea.
What firmware are you on? I'd Odin flash the tar files for that firmware.

I'm downloading them now from here. Can you verify for me that this is up to date/correct? I previously tried to flash the .tar.md5 file for my phone although I got a "write error" and after researching it I found that you can't flash files in download mode with a locked bootloader. Apparently this is wrong though, thanks for the all the help so far!

I followed the thread exactly as it said but it failed. Then I included the the PIT file but still failed. I've attached a screenshot of ODIN after I tried with the PIT file.
EDIT: My phone is giving a message that reads: "SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT" I read that PIT files have to be signed with a device-specific key to work, although it seems that most people aren't having a problem using one found off of the Internet. Any ideas?
EDIT 2: I believe those files are for 4.2.2, I was running 4.3, is this the issue? Also I don't know if my phone was updated OTA or not, I bought it from eBay. :/

Thanks for the reply, but before I go any further I should clarify some information about my phone. I bought an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 from eBay, when I got the phone it was running 4.3. The catch: My phone isn't actually on AT&T service OR SIM unlocked (I think), I'm with a cell provider called NET 10. How NET 10 works is that it pays AT&T to run off of their service, NET 10 is cheaper for the customers because it isn't as fast as AT&T. AT&T and Net 10 have an agreement where you can take any phone from AT&T and hook it up to NET 10 without unlocking it. Although I think that NET 10 may unlock your phone when you hook it up to their service, I'm not sure. What makes my think that is that when I booted my phone up after transferring to NET 10, a picture of an open padlock appeared under the Samsung logo.
Being on NET 10 may have changed some of that, specifically the MF3/MK2 baseband. Not being an expert on basebands and how they correlate to your cell service provider, will following your instructions result in not being able to connect to NET 10's service? It's probably a stupid question, I know, but with my minimal knowledge I figured I should ask before I followed through with anything.

It shouldn't. Your phone is the same model, and the firmware appears to be the same. At most you might have to put in an APN to get your mobile data back.

Thanks, I'm aware of the APN. I had SEVERAL issues with NET 10 when I first set that up. (THEY MISSPELLED THE F****** IP ADDRESS ON THEIR WEBSITE!) Still frustrated about that one. D:<
I'm now preparing to follow through with ted77usa's instructions. Sorry if I respond slow, I have to wait 5 minutes after each post/edit as I haven't been approved by a mod yet.
EDIT: I may have to continue this tomorrow, the site ted77usa used to host the .tar files is pretty slow. The download is going to take an hour and it's getting late here. It took about an hour for me to download ted77usa's files but I have relatively fast internet (16 mb/ps). As soon as the files downloaded it worked first try, are you in download mode? If you are and it's still not working you may need the PIT file and to make sure that re-partition is checked along with the 2 others that ted77usa mentioned.

[SOLVED] I337-(MK2) Galaxy S4 Trouble

Alright so I need some help. After trying every method that I could think of this is sort of a last resort. So it all started when I installed safestrap. It installed fine so I decided to wipe the phone and do a factory reset while I was in there. The process seemed successful so I decided to reboot but it got stuck on the ATT logo. Thinking it's soft bricked I decided to remove the battery and turn it back on. What ended up happening was this error (not actual pic). I've never had this happen to me before so I started to research for any possible solutions. Here's everything that I've tried so far:
Flash the Tar Files of the stock rom that I have for the phone
Use Kies to download / install a fresh version of the firmware for the phone
Use different tar files than the ones I have for the phone
If anyone can help me solve this issue I would really appreciate it. NOTE - Before anyone suggests it I can't enter recovery mode because for whatever reason it will just lead me back to that error screen that you saw in the picture.

So this is my first time trying to install a custom recovery, and it hasn't gone too well. I opened up CASUAL and it started up. It got to the first reboot, then it booted into downloading mode and CASUAL timed out. The red line in the corner says 'Could not do a normal boot. ODIN Mode' I tried yanking the battery many times, I tried stopping and restarting CASUAL. It wont even recognize the device now. My phone was a AT&T Galaxy S4 MK2 previously rooted. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated to un-brick my device!
You may have to use odin to return it back to stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49687770
Casual doesn't with on mk2
Edit, If you need help with Odin let me know. You'll need the all in one tar file from the link I gave you
Are you able to get back into Download mode? (hold the Down button + Home button + Power button)

No reason to stay on stock mk2. There is Saferoot, Safestrap Recovery & over 30 fantastic custom roms for you to try out for mk2. Read this guide & follow it. It has everything you need. Be sure to thank the op in the threads. Good luck & happy reading.

[Q] "Downloading.... Do not turn off target!" after TWRP

Can I get a little help here? I have a rooted, otherwise stock i337 that I just used the TWRP root app. I wanted to make a backup of my phone before I flashed a new rom. It downloaded jflteatt and I verified and installed it to /dev/block/mmcblk0p21. then i tried to make a backup, and i'm stuck at "Downloading.... do not turn off target!!!" In the upper left corner there's a "Could not do normal boot. ODIN Mode.
I found the post "[GUIDE] How to Unbrick your AT&T S4 I337 OTA UCUAMF3" but am hesitant to use it, as I am not sure that is what I need to do. I also found some other similar posts, but for different devices so I am again hesitant to rely on those.
I tried pressing home, power and volume down, but it just resets back to this screen. Also, I originally posted this request on the TWRP page, but I think it should be here. If so, I will delete it there.
Please help?
@kamikazees
If you could give more detail that would also help other to help u....such as what firmware that u are running before bricked...... well seem to me that u are either MF3 or MK2 firmware and u installed TWRP ...... u can only install safestrap recovery if u are on MF3 or MK2 firmware. ....Follow my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621279 it should get u back to MK2 firmware. .....goodluck

Thank you for the quick response. I have a small update since my first post. I found a poster in another section who got his phone rebooted by trying to send it to download mode, then cancelling out. I did that (pressing power, home and vol down), then when the phone "buzzed" I let off those keys and pressed them again. The phone rebooted, apparently normally.
So now I can check my firmware. Checking firmware is on the "baseband version" right? If so, then that info on my phone is I337UCUEMK2," which I guess is the MK2 firmware.
I deleted the TWRP app, but I'm not sure now if I've even got a recovery (if TWRP failed to install, maybe I'm still on stock?). Do I need to go ahead do the full ODIN tar file unbrick from where I am now? The phone appears to be operating normally.
If not, should I just go ahead and install safestrap recovery? I am trying to eventually get rid of all the bloated samsung junk and get to CM or another ROM. The S4 seems a bit more touchy than some of my previous phones.

Your stock recovery is probably broken, and so it would be best to at least reflash the stock recovery. However, you should be just fine if you want to only install Safestrap and leave recovery broken. I just wouldn't recommend that.

Ok, I want to fix the recovery. Can I use ODIN for that? One post I found said I cannot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576291. It was several months ago, however, so I am not sure if it still holds true.
If I can use ODIN, I see that the stock recovery file is in ted77usa's post #3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621279. After putting my phone in download mode and connecting it to ODIN, in which slot would I put that file? Some older posts say to put it in the PDA slot, which appears to be the AP slot.
Thanks for your patience. I really don't want to mess this up again.

The first one is in img format and won't work through ODIN, but you can use those commands from terminal emulator to flash it if you download it. Otherwise, the TAR files do work just fine.

If you are rooted and can actually boot the phone then I would install Safestrap for MK2 and install TWRP 3.71 to use as the recovery. I've been using Safestrap and TWRP since I was on MF3. I have also successfully flashed the tar files through Odin to get to MK2 with no problems. If you are rooted then its a really good idea to use Safestrap with TWRP for a recovery. Afterward you can find a list of compatible roms that are specific for Touchwiz on MK2 that for the most part are pretty stable. The stock recovery on this phone is pretty much useless.

This is exactly what I did. I flashed the stock recovery in Odin (yes, it goes in the AP slot), which fixed my first problem. Then I installed Safestrap, then made a ROM slot and installed Goldeneye v. 21 (the 4.3 version for MK2). That removed all of the AT&T bloat (yay), and I did not have to flash the MK2 kernel (which I think would also have gone in the AP slot) because it has it already.
Then I flashed the GE add-on that removed a bunch of Samsung bloat (yay #2). Rebooted and turned off the rest of the Samsung stuff I didn't want. Got the phone up and running beautifully.
What a picky phone! The locked bootloader really causes a lot of trouble to inexperienced flashers like me. I unfortunately have about 5gb of "wasted" space because I understand I cannot flash over the "stock" rom, but I am at least running another ROM that I chose. My phone, my choice. Shame on Samsung!
Thank you very much!

There is actually a way to flash a rom to the stock slot, but I haven't done it. Somewhere in the Safestrap threads explains how to do it. I think you can even get it back to normal if you change your mind.
