I originally missed the fact that you were taking about the HD utility. The phones are not the same, no you can't use it.

You have to manually remove Superuser.apk from /system/app/ before you can root again.

when you say 'latest gingerbread' do you mean 2.3.5?
i have a rooted x on 2.2.2, and i want to apply the 2.3.5 update, but i am scared that it will break my root, if i understand correctly i can apply the update then adb shell to remove su and superuser then re-root using pete's? is that correct?
i rooted originally with superoneclick 1.9.1
I went through tons of methods trying to root my droid x...

Odd, I haven't come across an unrootable build for the Droid X.
Also, are you sure 2.3.5 is correct the latest version of Gingerbread for a stock Droid X is 2.3.3.

Just post for waiting a version for CWM on Razr HD.
Thanks U
@p3droid is almost done with the hd recovery.
For now you can use twrp for the m and it works, just does not scale to screen correctly.

The TWRP image provided failed to flash: "invalid image size for partition recovery".
Any ideas?
EDIT: My bootloader is locked. Running rooted JB 4.1.1 SFR France leak. Device is XT925.
EDIT2: fastboot for linux is "< waiting for device >" like forever...
You can only flash a custom recovery if you have an unlocked bootloader.
Otherwise, you need to use a bootstrapped recovery like Safestrap 3.xx which does not actually flash the recovery but hijacks the the boot process to boot into a custom recovery in different partition after the kernel starts to load.
This type of recovery is what has been used for all locked bootloader Motorola devices and has not yet been released for the HD/M but is very close.

Are we getting close to a RAZR HD non dev edition recovery? Sbfing this thing every time I learn something isn't compatible yet it driving me crazy.

weird i flashed the recovery, but when i load recovery it just loads the stock 3e recovery.
edit. hmm seems to load now. weird
I have a rooted Droid Razr Maxx.
Voodoo Safestrap and Super UseSU loaded.
Wanted to freeze uneeded prgrams and tweak system to run quicker.
Also using Rom Toolbox to tweak CPU etc.
Loaded Nova launcher afterwards which I am very happy with.
My question is that Verizon is asking me to update my system now. I am assuming this is the scheduled JB update.
Since I rooted I know it is not going to let me update.
I actually tried to unroot once before and was unsuccessful.
I still show 0/1 and it will not let me do it for some reason.
In any case is it even worth it for me to do so?
Is JB going to give me anything that exciting that I would want to update?
If not i will just stay the way I have everything.
If so I will need to follow up to see if anyone can help me get unrooted so I can update.
Thanks in advance for any help.
This is the Razr M forum. You'll want to post this in the Razr Maxx forum. Different phones.
