Sound Recorder - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my Nexus 4, there is stock app called "Sound Recorder" that I used to be able to enable/disable from app settings. There is no uninstall option. When enabled, it would add an icon to the app drawer and when disabled the icon would go away. Recently I tried enabling it and the icon did not show up in the app drawer. I've tried doing this several times and restarting as well. I'm rooted on stock 4.4.2. I'd like to get this app enabled again w/an icon. Anyone have any thoughts.

I believe its a system app so I'm not sure how to reinstall it. I couldn't find it on Google Play.

Grey Google search bar on top of all screens? Can I get rid of it?

Is there a way to get rid of that grey Google search bar on top of all the screens? The drag an delete function doesn't seem to work.
Thanks!
I don't think there is any way to get rid of it on the Stock ROM. From what I understand its basically built onto the launcher. If it really bothers you, you could consider switching to an alternate launcher like Apex or Nova to get rid of it.

Didn't think of that. Maybe I'll give one of those a whirl.
This worked for me:
Settings>Apps>All>Google Search>select "Disable", then click "OK" on the "...other apps may misbehave" pop-up. You may have to reboot to get rid of the bar.
This will disable the search function on your tablet; there will be no way to search for contacts, apps or anything. If there is a problem you can always repeat the process and enable Google search again.
I personally didn't care for the search bar and I don't use the search function. I have only had my N10 since this morning, but removing the search bar was one of the first things I did and I have yet to have a problem.
Hope this helps.

Yes, the Now swipe-up functionality is in the navigation bar, which 3rd-party launchers don't change.

[Q] how to block notification from certain apps

Hi,
i'm having a nexus 4 with android 4.3 stock rom, rooted and installed xposed framework. is there any way or app to block certain apps from displaying notification. Apps like BBM, Twilight have an always persisting notification which i can't dismiss. Even after going to App Info and unchecking the Show Notification option these notifications come up again.
TIA,
Vignesh
Download Gravity Box from within Xposed framework(Under Downloads). After you've downloaded the module, go under "Statusbar Tweaks ", when you scroll down you'll see "ongoing notification blocker. " You'll be able to pick and choose which notifications are displayed. You have to reboot in order for the changes to take effect.

In bbm you can remove the permanent notification from bbm setting...
it worked..

Thanks. That worked like a charm.
Go to Settings>Apps
Then look for the app and click on it, below the name you will see a checkbox "show notifications". Unckek-it.

What is this widget installed?

This widget has been installed on one of my friends S4. What is it? And how do I remove it?
Notice the annoying bar to the left of the first picture. See screenshots:

That bar you are talking about is for the MULTI-WINDOW feature.
If you don't want or don't like it you can simply disable it,
Here is how, go to the phone's Settings>Display>Multi Window
Uncheck the box for the Multi Window and it will be disabled.
Good luck, have a great day!

I'm not sure it's the Multi Window feature. It was disable. Here's a new screenshot, with it activated. I don't get it :/

Its probebly an app that you've installed.
Look through the apps that you've installed when that showed up.
Did you install any apps recently? recall the app you've installed recently and remove it?
Other way is to install and scan your phone with antivirus. Good luck
That is some kind of Push notification add-on that was installed by some application.
What I suggest is: Go to the Play Store and find an app called "Addons Detector".
Run it and let it scan the device. It will tell you what apps are using what add-ons.
Uninstall everything that uses Push Notification and Icon Ads.
Then if you want, you can uninstall Addons Detector or just keep using it every now and then (it's quite good and free!)

Problem with third party launcher?

Is anyone experiencing this with a third party launcher, Nova launcher to be exact?
When I click the multi-task button (say, to adjust the brightness), I can't get back directly to the Home screen. If I press the Home or Back key, it takes me to the last app I was using (even when I came from the Home screen).
I went back to the Stock launcher and did not have this issue.
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

Hello, you are not alone. I have experience the same thing. I submit the feedback to leeco and they cannot reproduce the problem you and I have. I even attached the video and show it to them. Still nothing. Are you also experience red screen when power to turn off the screen? You can see it on light background or app is running in front of you. Just wondering. Take a look at this thread I have talk to le engineer about this. http://bug.letv.com/us/ue/feedback/detail/A20165FC11YTC20

You're also having this issue with Stock launcher? I only experience this with Nova.
And for the red screen issue, I just tried a few times with light background apps and did not see it.

Yes, it was weird at first. Now it is fine. I still have problem with nova. Take a look in this thread I post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/leeco-le-pro-3-red-screen-occur-t3511080 I attached the slow motion video zip in there, you will see what I am talking about.
I have the same problem as well but I can confirm its from having nova as a greenified app.

Mine is also on 5.19 US. I may try to reinstall Nova and see if it resolves the issue. Can you please confirm something for me? Do you have the Uninstall button activated when you go to the App Management for Nova? Mine's grayed out so I can't do a normal uninstall from App Management.

Go to open by default and clear default. The uninstall button is not grey out anymore.
That's strange. I don't have this issue with nova launcher or stock launcher.

I did this and the uninstall button is still grayed out. I even set the launcher back to the Stock one.
I went to the Play store and try to uninstall from there, but instead of Uninstall button, I see a Deactivate. I clicked on it and it says "Nova is a Device Admin and must be deactivated before it can be uninstalled". Any idea on how I can deactivate it?
Nevermind, I found it.

Go to system setting. Click on fingerprint & password. Then tap on Other security options. Then Device administrators. On it, you should able to see nova launcher on the list and deactivate it.

Guys, he has given the solution long ago. Make sure Nova is being able to run in the background. Disable it on the app protection list and this problem should go away.
Nova Launcher 5.0 breaking recent apps
Updated to Nova Launcher 5.0 (released Dec 13) and it looks like the launcher is now disappearing from the Recent Apps menu again on the Pro3. Did the usual setting checks - enable run in background, disable app cleaning, uninstall/reinstall Nova, reboot etc.
Checking if anyone else has this problem and if there's any new Nova settings that might cause this.
Thanks.

Curious. Have you rebooted your phone since the update from yesterday?
Fair warning - I think mine started to happen after rebooting.

Having the same issue after update Nova Launcher 5.0 and rebooted. But also face this issue since beta version. I this happen only the EUI rom because on CM13 its working fine without any issue. Im using X720 on TARS 5.9.20S rom.

At previous version i didn't notice trouble. On 5.0 I notice. Try to solve.
I notice the difference when looking at recent apps but I don't have any issues with Nova working properly.

Whenever I turn on my screen, there's a Location Found notification appearing on my lockscreen. Any clue how I can disable that?

Is the location switch in the drop done menu on /
if yes, then turn it off and the issue should stop.
If no, then you need to find which app is asking for a location fix. It could be weather app.

Definitely want to keep location settings on. Curious how I could tell what app is prompting the notification though.

what apps do you have that rely on location ?
try disabling one by one till the notification does not appear.
Do you have a partner as I use this to see where my wife is using the android built in app, and when I do this comes up on her phone, so maybe someone is checking up on you?
