I have been running an AOSP based ROM since the day I got my phone. I recently re-installed a TW ROM and of course, there is a noticeable difference in the quality and features of the camera. My question since we all know we can not have a TW camera on AOSP, is there any other camera app that it comparable?

Hey guys,
I've noticed that on Task 06/07 (with task's gapps and task's kernel, no modifications to ANYTHING) (and stock TW as well for what it's worth), the front-facing camera seems to be laggy and not very good quality. I have noticed however, that on the 06/08 CM nightly(with 03/01 gapps and CM kernel, again, no modifications or changes to ANYTHING), that the front-facing camera works AWESOME. Just wondering if there were some commits or something pushed to CM that weren't picked up in Task's ROM. I can't imagine what would cause the camera to be BETTER on an AOSP ROM rather than a TW ROM anyway.
I did some searching and nothing found to "camera" was relative to this. Is anyone else experiencing this and/or know what the cause of this is? I MUCH prefer to use Task's ROM over anything else but I use the camera multiple times a day, every day.
ROMs with slow/laggy front-facing camera:
Task 06/07
MintJB (Nottach's ROM)
Stock AT&T firmware
ROMs with good front camera
CM 06/08 nightly
I have ordered a nexus 4 and will most likely root and rom it when I get it.
I have noticed on my two old phones (current g2x and an optimus t) that I installed roms on, specifically cyanogenmod, it always made the camera quality worse.
Does installing any of the custom roms on these phones make the camera worse, the same, or better?
no, installing any of the custom roms does not make the camera worse or better. However, u can use third party apps to improve the picture quality.

No, Installing a custom ROM won't improve or make your camera worse.
How ever if you use a beta version of any third party camera app, it may not be able to take full usage of your camera, its just that stock camera app is usually optimized for your phone.
No, it won't. The reason why it makes those phones take worse pictures is because the manufacturer has their own closed source libraries for processing images and autofocus, so custom ROMs are forced to use the (usually worse) AOSP camera libraries. The Nexus 4 is based off of AOSP, so stock already has the AOSP camera libraries.
Just wondering if you can get the Samsung stock camera on custom roms?
If so, is the quality any better or is it worse?
If it's a Touchwiz based custom ROM then it will have the Samsung camera. If it's an AOSP or CM based ROM then it won't have the Samsung camera.
The camera issues have always stopped me from running AOSP or CM based ROMs on my main phone. They normally have great features and battery life but for some reason they haven't resolved the camera issue on Samsung phones that's plagued them since day one.
you could always use the htc camera if you are running aosp or cm..it is somewhere on xda
Hi I've created this thread to know which ROM S4's users use
Feel free to justify your vote !
I use touchwiz ROM (note5 ported rom) because it has some useful features like private mode ,ultra powersaving mode and also because it looks beautiful and I prefer it also because I never found any cynogen build which had good quality camera ...I always felt as if the quality of pictures I take is really bad in cyanogen
Im using a debloated Stock TW ROM with Root. Its okay until I decide to buy a new phone. I tried all the CM, modded TW etc. ROMs but they all had to much problems (Bluetooth, Camera quality etc. with CM, freezing sensors with modded tw roms).
Im using note 5 port from ale95. Its decent. And like because the features. I mean why having a videocall capable phone if we are not going to use it? With cm you dont have it. And the camera....afs.
Ok.. so this has probs been covered hundreds of times but hey
Touchwiz isnt my greatest love and want to move to cm13, the only thing holding me back is reading about camera quality drops when using custom roms, but is it a major drop in quality, i mean im not one for looking at pictures on the pc and blowing them up..
Has anyone got any examples of cm13 pictures..maybe even a similar picture from stock which they have
Anyway thanks for any help
The camera won't suddenly turn QVGA just by changing from official to custom.
I feel like people exaggerate when saying that the quality is worse.
You'll lose most of the features from the stock camera, but it's not like the camera will suddenly turn into a 1 Megapixel camera.
If you're a casual user, you'll be just fine.
I like to focus, snap and be happy with a decent pic..thats about it
Might go for CM13 official then, i spose if not happy come back to stock
I don't use the stock camera apps in AOSP or Cyanogenmod (when I was using it). Half the time the binary would crash so badly that only a reboot would fix it. So when using AOSP (currently using JDC AOSP 7.0) or Cyanogenmod I install a camera app that uses its own binaries. That eliminates camera issues in AOSP for me.
