I've noticed that since updating to 4.4 that my sensors are freezing.
I noticed it when I went to use SMS and the screen immediately switched to landscape and would not rotate back when I held the phone upright. I unchecked the auto rotate in the settings and it returned to upright. I also noticed at the same time that the screen was a little dark and was not auto adjusting the brightness.
From the phone I entered *#0*# to get the test page and on opening the sensors they where all stuck solid. Only the proximity would work.
Sensor Hub test shows the STM32 pass.
The only way to fix it is to power off and back on. A re-start does not fix the issue.
I suspect a hardware problem. Anyone else seen this before?

Hi,
I've got a problem with the accelerometer of my nexus 10, when I'm in automatic rotation mode the devise doesn't rotate automatiquely when I rotate it. And when an application force the portrait mode I have to desactivate the automatic rotation mode to go back in landscape mode.
Thanks in advance
Cyril
I believe GPS Status & Toolbox can re-calibrate the accelerometer (along with Compass, and get AGPS data), might be worth looking into
Fixed my screen orientation problem.
I spent a good four hours or so trying to figure out why my screen orientation wasn't working properly even after a reboot and boot into safe mode. I could only get one portrait with buttons on bottom and had to rotate an extra 30 degrees or less than 1 degree to cause it to flip between landscape orientations. Loaded up Google Skymaps and the Horizon was off by about 30 degrees in landscape, but fine in portrait. First went and downloaded Android Sensor Box and found the X-axis would run up to +15.5 and only -3.7. Anyways the calibration reset in GPS Status & Tool Box 4.0.1 fixed it immediately.
Awesome call on that program espionage724 would have never found it if I didn't find this thread and your post.
Edit it came back although a combination of running the program and hitting the lock button seemed to fix it. This time the axis offset was reversed though. Probably an operating system bug and only seemed to come back after I attached an OTG USB cable so =/ ?
Same problem here
I have the same problem with a new Nexus 10. The rotation did not work in any application at any time. With the Sensor Toolbox, I see that the sensor is working to some extend. Recalibrating with the GPS Status did not change anything.
Is this a hardware defect, so that I should send mine back to Google?
If you happen to get the orientation working, I'd be happy if you share it with me.
Hi all,
after the upgrade to KitKat 4.4.2 I'm having some problem such as application root permission loss (AdAware) and, the most boring, screen rotation malfunction.
Some weeks ago, it started blocking the screen in portrait and the accelerometer stop working. It was possible to rotate to landscape the screen only with specific screen rotation apps or via games that set the rotation by their self. Any reboot didn't solve the issue but "magically" every malfunction disappeared after some days of sickness ! LOL
Some days ago the problem back on my Nexus but with some variations. I turn on the tablet and the screen keep in portrait and after some minutes it turn to landscape automatically. No way to restore it to portrait except with a reboot, any other third part application can only turn the screen to reverse portrait or landscape or reverse landscape!
Any ideas about this pain in the back?
Thanx

I've had my nexus 6p for about two months now, and yesterday, something weird happened to my gyro sensor. It seems to be completely out of place, not allowing me to rotate my phone in any app in any way. Occurred to anyone else?

The only related issue I've had is when it's laying flat and displaying in portrait, then I open an app and it opens in landscape. Kind of annoying.
I'd ensure rotation is enabled in display settings, and use an app like Sensors Multitool, under rotation vector it will tell you if the sensor is responding to movement at all. If it's not responding it's likely a stuck sensor. Either defective, stuck in position from a fall, or is held in place by static (in which case powering it off for 5 minutes should get it working again temporarily). If the app shows that it's responding to movement but still not rotating, I'd suggest a factory reset.

i left it off for 12 hours and it works perfectly now!
Now that you mention it ive had issues with it locking in landscape--recently in past 24 hours. Havent looked too much into it but toggling auto rotate usually fixes it. Thought it was my launcher (recently switched to asap) but i dunno....never had this issue before yesterday--closest thing would be its TOO sensitive and switches mode with the slightest movement. But thats not the same as it locking up in landscape
Hello XDA,
I have a weird problem going on with my Note 3. I had an issue where my screen would not shut off during calls so I immediately figured I'd test the proximity sensor with some debugging app and also the built-in service menu. I went ahead and did that and noticed it was sort of working but one of the values (the main one that ranges from 0.0 to 8.0) stayed at 0.0 and didn't change. I did some research and used an app that I believe recalibrated it and it began to work perfectly… EXCEPT, when the screen goes off during a call and SHOULD be locked from touch events I can still touch the screen and it is responsive, meaning even thought the screen is black I can end the call, mute it etc granted I touch the right area seeing as I can't see anything. Another thing that's going on that leads me to believe this is some sort of software bug is, when the screen is turned off due to the takeover setting, when I press the home button to turn it back on, it turns back on BUT the front app is lowered and i am brought to the home screen as if the screen was on and I hit it. Weird huh?
Any help would be appreciated…
Verizon Note 3 running on T-Mobile and CM13
I bought a used V20 with a defective screen. I change it, everything work for fine, but i notice a strange behaviour with the second screen.
The second screen is always on and i can unlock it by only touching the finger print sensor. BUT at night (or in the dark), the second screen turn off and i need to press 2 times on the power button to wake the phone.
The Knock On feature doesn't work too in the dark.
The light sensor seems to work correctly.
I would love to post a video but i can't......
This is an issue or it is normal ??
Thanks for your help !
Sounds like Doze.
I don't find anything related to Doze or "standby" about this screen.
check "daily timeout" on Show when main screen off. Seem u turn this function on at night

Sounds like there is an issue with the proximity sensor (not light sensor).
It's setup to turn the second screen off as well as disable knock on if the phone is in your pocket. Even during daylight hours if you put your finger within an inch of the sensor when the main screen is off, it should trigger it.
It seems your sensor may just be messed up.

There are a few apps on the play store you can try to fix it if you are rooted. You could also try a sensor app to see if the proximity sensor is showing feedback properly although you might need to be rooted for the apps to show the proximity sensor properly (not sure). My note 4 had a hardware test in the service menu not sure how to do it on V20 though.
Same Issue
Edit: Resolved the issue. Please read this post. There is a small rubber gasket-type thing that sits in the hole of the phone's frame where the proximity sensor is positioned. That rubber gasket was not included with my replacement screen. I pulled the rubber piece out of my original, broken screen, and installed it into my replacement screen. I am no longer having issues with the phone in the dark.
I am experiencing the same issue. I have a T-Mobile LG v20 (H918) and I cracked the screen last week. I ordered a replacement LCD assembly and installed it myself. Everything works fine during the day or in a well lit room, but at night, in a dark room, I experience all of the issues you are reporting. I am finding other posts online with our same issue, but as of yet, no resolution.
Even though the second screen is set to always be on, at night, in a dark room, it turns off almost immediately after locking the phone. It is almost as if the phone is in a "deep sleep" or something, because the following also occurs:
Knock On will not wake the phone
Fingerprint sensor will not wake the phone
Even connecting to the phone via AirDroid / AirMirror the phone doesn't wake
Need to press the power button multiple times to wake phone
Providing a light source immediately turns on second screen and resolves all issues
