[Q] Retrieve data from non-rooted GS4 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello,
My Galaxy S4 (SAMSUNG-SGH-I337) is stuck in the at&t logo, I booted into recovery clear the cache and try again but nothing, the phone is still stuck there.
Unfortunately I have two recent files that I would like to copy before trying to factory reset the phone, these files are stored in the phone memory (Download folder).
Given that the phone is not rooted, is there a way to boot the phone into recovery, connect the phone to my mac (I could connect it to a Windows/laptop) and navigate the memory and copy the files?
Thanks for any help

Help

Hey every one I'm new to xda and I got my samsung vibrant rooted with the stock system recovery and was working fine but than I decided to do some apps and file transfer from another android phone to it and after that my phone kinda froze on me. So I rebooted the phone and boom nothing happen after the galaxy s animation, its just stuck there then the screen went black out. I rebooted again and this time I went to the sustem recovery mode and try to do the data reset but it couldn't fix it either. I tried to connected to my computer but since the phone wasn't fully booted into the home screen my computer are unable to detect the phone driver. I reconnect the phone and computer together, and this time I got to where it say's "downloading" "do noy turn off target", what is that mean? is it download something or is that I'm suppost to do something to it. Please can someone help me out. I've already download the stock firmwire but couldn't be able to transfer to the mass storage cos the phone couldn't boot beyound the galaxy s animation and eventhough its in the system recovering I still couldn't get it to connect to the phone mass storage. What can I do to fix it?.
You can take the battery out at that screen, but I don't know if it's going to fix your overall issue.
Take sd out. Hook to computer with adapter. Move stock nandroid to sd. Replace sd in phone. Boot into clockwork recovery. Restore nandroid. Reboot.you are now stock with root.
one thing
I know what I did is stupid but at lease I learn my lesson. I would really appreciate if someone could help me out.
help
I tried but its not working cost the phone doesn't read what's on the sd card it read only the mass storage which is the 14g not the 2g memorycard.
The SD card won't be in the phone so of course it won't read from it. It will read from the interbal memory, so do it from there.

Turn off the phone, take out the battery and take out the SD card, try to get your hands on a sd card reader for your card so you can fix what you did without using your phone to mount it. Copy the rom or stock firmware over to the card and use the recovery, wipe data/factory reset and then try to load up the stock firmware. if all else fails do a hard reset:
To hard reset Samsung Vibrant, follow the steps below:
Step 1. Turn your Samsung Vibrant off. If your Samsung Vibrant is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it.
Step 2. Hold the Volume Down button.
Step 3. Press and release the Power button.
Step 4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button, then press and release the Power button.
Step 5. Choose one of these: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO. If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Samsung Vibrant.
That is for the default recovery so depending on the recovery you are using try to wipe everything and flash the ROM from the sd card, if you need help PM me or contact me on chat.andirc.net #droideris, or irc.andirc.net #droideris
Best of luck!

Help Getting Backup Restored

I was given a framework-res.apk file that was going to give me a different power options menu. Before I did anything with the file I created a complete nandroid back up to the sd card. I also went the the original file and changed the name to .bak. I then or so I thought placed the apk in the folder and changed permissions. However the phone immediately restarted and now is in a boot loop stuck at the Samsung logo. Phone will not boot into recovery as it attempts to then just restarts over. i plugged the phone into the computer and it does not recognize it. Any suggestions on how I can either restore my backup or get to the original file to remove the .bak from the file to get everything working again. Thanks for the help.
Have you tried pulling the battery and manually going into recovery by holding up volume + power? Sometimes just pulling the battery and letting it boot normally will work but I doubt it in this situation.
Tried all the main things. Just fixed the problem though. I re flashed recovery allowing me to boot into recovery on the phone and backup is restoring as we speak.

[Q] Very,very bricked LG G2

OK guys I really need some help with this, I have an LGG2 that is rooted and was running on Cynogenmod 11. I also have TWRP recovery installed. Now as the device was rooted I was playing with some stuff to get Sky Go working as it wont work with root. I came across a thread which stated I should try editing the boot.prop file in /system. There is a line in this file about 5 to 10 lines down from the top which reads "test-keys". The advice in the thread was to change this to "release-keys". Now, to do this I used es-file explorer to locate the file. First I simply tried to edit it but it would not save the edit so then I tried to make a copy in the same directory. Es-file explorer stated it had made a copy but no icon appeared for the new file so then I copied the file to a new directory. This time the new file was created as expected so I re-named it to a .txt file made the change I wanted and saved it. I then moved this file back into the original /system directory it had come from and re-named the original file to a .txt then named the new file I had just changed to .prop on the understanding that the os would now use this new file. On re-starting my phone I got the LG logo an then nothing, when the power key was pressed the phone just vibrated twice.
No matter what I do I cannot get the phone to boot into TWRP or any other recovery mode. I have managed to boot into a firmware update mode and using the LG support mobile tool have re-flashed the stock rom. Now when the phone boots it goes past the LG logo screen and to the 3 mobile logo (they are my service provider) but then it just re-boots, gets to the 3 mobile screen and re boots again. Still I cannot get into TWRP or any other recovery mode so I am completely stuck as to what to do next. I can get the phone into the firmware update mode no problem but then phone is not appearing in My Computer. All I really want to do is get into the phone and delete the .prop file I created and restore the original, I presume if I do that the phone will boot properly and I can re-flash Cynogen but without the phone appearing in my computer I cannot do that and without TWRP I cannot re-flash Cynogenmod.
Does anyone have any other ideas I could try please.
Thanks
Ben

[solved] Note 3 bricked for good? No ADB interface to reflash manually.

Hi everybody.
TL;DR
Recovery hangs upon booting and fastboot mode doesn't show up ADB interface on my PC. How to flash the phone?
Long version:
I wonder if you can help me. My old faithful Note 3 is badly misbehaving. Yesterday I filled almost all its internal memory with some movies before heading out on a trip, but some time later when I reset the phone after unusually long boot all user settings were lost. Well, something went wrong, couple of hours later there was reset after reset so I wanted to restore previous backup... but couldn't. TWRP was showing error messages (TAR something something, 255) very shortly into restoring process. It couldn't restore backup but also couldn't make new one as well (similar error with TAR and code 255 when trying to backup user data).
Something was very wrong, so I thought maybe I will flash newer TWRP 3.0 and give it a try but suddenly after next reset I couldn't even get into recovery anymore - TWRP gives me black screen after several seconds into booting it. No icons, no reaction to key presses, nothing. Even holding power button does nothing.
Ooooookay, it's time to enter fastboot mode then and flash new recovery manually. So I enter it, connect phone to my laptop and... nothing! No ADB interface. Some kind of samsung driver is installing, but the most important one, for ADB, just doesn't show up. It's really weird. Reinstalling drivers doesn't help, only the same one device that shows up gets different names, but that's it - no ADB interface, and, effectively, I can't flash anything because fastbot and ADB can't see any device. Odin can't see the phone too.
What's going on? Is the internal flash dying or what? But if so what does it have to do with ADB not showing up? Do you have any ideas that I can try out in this situation? I checked my laptop with a tablet that I have on hand and it shows up its ADB interface without problem in fastboot mode even though it's the first time I connect it to this laptop, so laptop and it's system are fine.
If nothing helps then, well, One+ 3, here I come.
EDIT: Problem solved. Turns out f2fs on data partition crashed and therefore TWRP couldn't start at all. I managed to flash Philz CWM via Odin somehow (after messing with drivers for some more time) which told me there is something wrong with /data because it couldn't mount it at all. It couldn't format it either. Fortunately SlimLP managed to start and after throwing up some errors I managed to do factory reset which formatted the internal memory back to ext4. Then flashing TWRP, formatting data back to f2fs, restoring backup and voila! It works again. Good, I'll wait until Note 8 if there ever will be one.

Help requested to pull data off a bricked S8+

Let me get this out of the way first: I did NOT brick the phone myself it was after a Verizon OTA update two days ago that has bricked my phone.
I am seemingly stuck in a bootloop that has left me unable to access my phone at all. Safe Mode and regular will not boot up; with regular boot it gives me the notification on the bottom of the screen for "Optimizing Apps", going through the entire count before rebooting back to Recovery, with Safe Mode attempted it just throws me back to Recovery. I CAN access Download Mode, but SafeSwitch and Windows fail to recognize my device when I plug it in. I'm looking to try to recover at least my photos and videos from the device with the possibility of my text messages as well (on that note: I was given an option to erase app data in a possibility to access Safe Mode. Would this erase my texts if I did this?). Is there any way that I can pull all the stuff off of my phone, or am I out of luck?

You are probably going to have to wipe data in recovery. To het it to boot have you tried wiping cache in recovery. As far as your computer not recognize phone try a different port or different cable. By the way its not very smart too post your IMEI number people can clone your phone with that

Well I told you you will probably have to wipe data or try a new cable or different computer. If you have an s8+ you can try my rescue rom and boot to safestrap and maybe you could get your stuff but most likely to mount data in safestrap you would need to wipe to remove encryption as well but im not sure

Well the problem is that I can't wipe data; I'm trying to save the data on there. I have a replacement device so I'm not trying to save the device itself, just the data.
Do you have a link to your rescue from that you can PM me please?
