[Q] Full Format - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed Purity ROM on my Nexus 4, then GApps. I was facing some issues. So I reinstalled the ROM. But I still find the GApps !
Just wondering why is it still there ?
I'm trying to fully the format the phone. So that I can install minimal GApps.

When you do a wipe, don't forget to wipe the system partition.
Sent with my Nexus® 10 minus 3

fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
Now boot back to recovery and install ROM and gapps via adb sideload or otg
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

No luck

You can do "fastboot format system" command that will reset the file system to default, made me phone a lil faster to, than just erasing.

AOKP rom

So i got my nexus 4 yesterday and Ive always wanted to root an android phone and install a custom rom. So i unlocked the bootloader and rooted it pretty easy. I want to flash AOKP rom. i downloaded the rom file and google apps from their website on the phone. I went into CWM recovery and installed those files from the sd card, and it says its complete. I reboot the device and it just sits on the nexus logo screen. I dont know what i did wrong. Anybody got any ideas
It's normal for it to sit on that screen for about a minute or so.. How long did you give it?

3-4 minutes
make sure you have the correct files for your N4 or "Mako" device and that you did the steps properly.
wipe data/factory reset in recovery
flash ROM
flash Gapps
reboot

yeah im pretty sure i did that all correctly, but ill try again. Also for some reason when i try to boot into recovery sometimes, instead of going into CWM, it shows the android robot open with an exclamation mark on him. Any idea what that is
^
I believe that the stock recovery...
When you first boot cmw, it does not stay permanently afterwards...
You can flash it again by downloading ROM manager??
Or somthing else..
Maybe use adb+fastboot to flash ROM..
Just to try if the files aren't broken.

You can't flash a ROM in fastboot, you can only flash images.
You can flash the recovery image through fastboot.
I would let it sit for more than just 3-4 minutes as well.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think you have to format /system and format /boot when switching from another rom, otherwise it bootlops.

[Q] Nexus 4 wont work after new cyanogenmod update

Hi guys im sort of new to the android scene and im having problems with my nexus 4, i downloaded the newest cyanogenmod nightly and flashed it, it messed up part way through. i rebooted the phone and now its just stuck at boot animation. i have wiped the cache the dalvik cache and done a factory restore.
i have tried reflashing the nightly but it stick stops part way through, i want to add the new rom to the /sdcard but i dont know how, its not showing in android file manager and i have tried using adb push command.
im sure its a noob question but any ideas?
P.s sorry i know there are posts similar to mine but tried them and wont work
If adb push won't work in recovery you might try flashing the factory images with fastboot. System.img is really all you'd need.

You can try to sideload a new ROM via 'adb sideload' in the recovery.

Follow the steps, but only flash the system.img. Once it boots, move your ROM over. Reboot into recovery. Flash.

Bootloop: Can't boot to OS

Hi,
This all started off when i tried to use a SoftKey mod app and when I opened it up, I accidently clicked Restore Backup and then the phone restarted and my status bar and navigation keys dissapeared. I looked at the SystemUI.apk in system/app and found it had a 0.00kb size. I then tried to replace the SystemUI.apk which when rebooted, caused a constant force close. I then booted a custom recovery and replaced the framework-res.apk, the SystemUI.apk and then the .odex file. I then tried to reboot and found it was stuck in a bootloop.
I wiped both the dalvik cache and the other cache as well as wiped my data. After reboot, It started upgrading the apps and after it had finished, It started its bootloop again. Now I don't know how to get my phone back to an operational standard. Could someone please tell me how I can boot back to the OS?
If you are running a custom ROM you should reflash it.
If you are running stock flash the stock image.

You can either adb side load a custom ROM or push it to SD.
Command would be adb push nameoffile.zip /sdcard/
Otherwise you can flash the stock image using fastboot.

If you did a nandroid with the bad SystemUi it will bootloop again when restoring it. If you just restore userdata it should be fine.

HELP!!!!! I wiped my internal storage in TWRP and and cannot boot!!!

I accidentally wiped my data, internal storage, cache and dalvik cache and now the phone is stuck in a bootloop. What should I do??? Would flashing a factory image fix the problem? If so, how do I do that! Please help!!!
Yes. Download images and use fastboot flash while the phone is in bootloader to flash the system and boot images

Thanks for the reply! Do you know of a tutorial to flash the system and boot image?
Download a toolkit and flash it.

[Q] Nexus 4 won't boot after flash

Hey guys, I seem to have a problem with my Nexus 4
I installed Odyssey ROM (4.3) coming from Illusion (4.2.2) following the usual procedure of wiping etc...
It didn't boot, stuck on the Google logo....
Strange thing is that it stuck when I tried to reinstall Illusion and also when I restored the Backup I made before the install.
What couldve cause this problem and how can I solve it?
Thanks
I don't know the cause but try this:
1.Go to bootloader.
2.Use adb fastboot to flash to stock.
3.profit

Go into recovery:
- Wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot or
- if that`s not enough do a data factory reset and reboot. That should do it.

OK guys.... Slight update... I get it to work but it seems to only boot ROMs after a factory reset..... Even now, Odyssey, PA etc no matter what ROMs I'm on if I reboot it hangs at the Google logo.... Forcing me into another factory reset.

I'm having this same problem with a friend's Nexus 4, my Nexus 4 I can flash whatever and it boots up no problem. With his it doesn't matter what ROM I flash it will not boot up. I have done the full wipe and installed factory image from Google Dev website at least 5 times and then installed customer recovery and root several times. I'm using the latest CWM touch and it will not boot. Any ideas? Thanks.
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
Now boot to new recovery
adb sideload nameofrom.zip
adb sideload gapps.zip
Reboot
May is suggest the latest twrp recovery and latest slimkat and their all in one gapps for this as well
Also be sure you have the latest bootloader and modem
Best of luck
