Home button double action - Droid Ultra General

Since I have had this phone the home button always acted as if you had pressed it twice. For instance, in an app, press home, takes me to launcher and automatically goes to main home screen. Does that happen to everyone? Think I may have a reason to get a new one if not.

All and I don't think its a bug. When you click home where do you want to go, home. Click the back icon if you want to go back.

I liked the old functionality, one press back to lay home screen, twice to main home screen, and with nova I had third to the home screen editor. Can't do the nova agreed functionality because of how it is now.

Nope, def a bug...install a launcher like Nova...by default, if you're on the main homescreen and press home you're supposed to get the "previews" screen that shows all of your home screens...
But on our phones it will open quickly and then close right away because the home button registers twice...

You can't compare a stock launcher to an aftermarket launch. Functionality will always be different. Maybe it's a bug but I hope I can keep the functionality.

If it's not a bug then it's non-standard Android behavior and it was not something that existed when the phone launched.
Clearly, it's a bug. If it's still around after the next OTA then either Motorola is incompetent or Verizon directed them to do this for some dumb reason.

This does not happen on my Maxx running kitkat (rooted but I think that's irrelevant).
If I'm in an application and press the home button once, it goes the last home screen I was on (not the 'main' home screen). Pressing it again goes to the main screen.

For me this started immediately after going to Kit Kat - I am rooted, I wasn't on 4.2. Annoying as hell!

There is a setting for home double tap in the accessibility section all the way down at the bottom.

This is my biggest problem with the Kit Kat upgrade - home button goes to main home screen sometimes. Makes me want to ditch this phone for something else. Maddening.
The entire upgrade was generally a let down, from performance to battery.

Well I recently switched to Dev and home button is normal as it should be. Sticking with 4.2.2. I am going to try to send my Norman maxx in for warranty for the glitch. Should come with 4.2.2. If anyone wants to buy it let me know.

Widgets and 2.3.3

Anyone having issues with widgets loading in 2.3.3?
My twitter widget will not load. Even stranger, I cannot add any applications to any screen. Very odd.

Only problem I am having with 2.3.3 is the screen colors. It's terrible, definitely gotta get use to it..
Widgets work fine. Try a reboot or a battery pull.
Works fine here, using LauncherPro Plus.
I chose to clear the dalvik cache before rebooting, after applying the update. Perhaps that helped me?

Haven't used ADW in a long time but isn't there an option to lock your screens? Which in turn wouldn't allow you to modify anything.

Multitasking

Hello, I think I'm gonna buy an s4 but there's one thing that bothers me. It seems like there's no fast way to multitask. Just like the previous galaxy phones you have to hold down the home button to get to the recent app list. I find this painfully slow. Any suggestions for faster multitasking?

The S4 uses the home button to multi task so it isn't as fast as the nexus 4 ( for the menu to appear) but its still fast enough. But if it bothers you than I would suggest a phone without a home button and on screen buttons.
Use a launcher, like Nova. The default gesture to bring up recent apps is to pinch zoom.
Problem solved.
There is also an app which provides the recent button as an on screen button and remains on screen at all times. You can move it around like a chat head.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk HD
Yes I find it slow. Usually I just want to copy paste something or remember something and it takes two seconds to switch back and two seconds to switch forward. Four seconds is a long time these days.
Regarding the Nova launcher, gestures don't work inside apps right?
Samsung should allow customized buttons. I would love to change the menu to multitask.
You should get a HTC One with no home button and a recent apps button. I'm sure you'll love that.

yeah but at least it has double click to multitask which is way faster than a two-second lag.
Thanks for the link to the recent apps floating app. I'm not sure that it is worth it since it will be annoying to have in on the screen all the time...
What about the gestures in alternative launchers (nova). Does that work inside apps?

I was using a custom ROM to move the navigation buttons but last week a few ROMs added swipe Ribbons. Follow this link for a Nexus 10 screen shot with a right hand Ribbon including navigation controls (this is not my screen shot). Ribbons default to auto hide.
With the right custom ROM and swipe Ribbons I always have a full screen with an auto hide navigation bar and notifications. You can just swipe down with one finger to have the notifications display at any time. There are multiple kinds of Ribbons and they are fully configurable (content, position, colors, autohide delay ... etc).
Check in the Developers threads to see which ROMs are supporting swipe Ribbons. I use Buttered +Aroma, follow the link in my signature. I have seen some bugs but for the most part they work well and have already become part of my daily-driver configuration.
My own set up uses a right hand Ribbon for navigation contols and Sidebar for left hand app shortcuts. I had already purchased Sidebar before Ribbons were available.

Any way to change the soft keys?

I've looked around and it appears there are a number of paid apps that apparently let me change the soft keys, but I'm not 100% sure if they'll work with the stock LG G2 "OS"...

My quasi solution was auto hide soft keys, auto to 0, auto hide only had anywhere on the bar checked, and swipe. You still need to swipe after wake, but if you need anything under it, just tap the left side to hide. If you use the mock option, home will leave space for it.

If you were on your home screen in an app and hit the home key it would open up the page selection instead of going back to home. It was a double action bug. The software thought you were hitting the key twice. If you aren't on your home screen in an app and hit the home key it brings you back to the previous screen then hit the home key again for home, that's how its intended to work.

Another problem is that in many third party launchers, there is a specific function that can happen if you hit home while already on the default home screen. Most good launchers will have a way to turn this off, but often the functionality is useful - say, it can show all of your home screens in smaller images at the same time, so you can choose one without having to slide to one that is many screens away. The Aviate launcher toggles a particular function on and off when you press home, so, on the Droids, it now quickly toggles back and forth, making pressing home useless.
It doesn't drive me crazy, but I do find it mildly annoying that I can't go back to my default home when I'm in Nova launcher. I'm actually more annoyed that it's taken five-plus months (and counting) to get it fixed.
