Staying stock rooted: What are some staples apps/modules to have? - Moto X General

I just unlocked and rooted my X. I intend on installing busybox and xposed to get the phone to be as close to a custom rom as possible without ever installing a new rom.
What are the best modules/apps to have? I came from CM 11 so quick reply and certain toggles are a must for me.

Don't be shy flash kangakat is the best rom for our x

On the moto tether.. I could find the string in my build.prop

GravityBox is pretty much all you need.. the rest are extras..
I also use Minminguard, greenify, appoppsXposed and some others..

As already stated definitely get gravity box, it's simply awesome!
For the quick reply look at 8sms in the play Store. AFAIK it's the CM messaging app.

Do you happen to know where that would be? I always like knowing what I'm actually changing.

Titanium Backup Pro.
ES File Explorer (or any decent root file explorer).

I use many of the above, but I stumbled on....energy bar.....one day. It should be on the must have list for everyone.

Xposed Installer (with GravityBox and Moto Tether modules), Tasker, Titanium Backup, Root Explorer.

Tasker + AutoVoice + Google Search API module + Touchless Control was one of the reason that made me interested in this device and it's working great.

I always install X-Privacy.

Can you tell a little more about this cocktail with Tasker, Autovoice, search API and touch less control; it sounds interesting.

Google Search API allow you to say AutoVoice commands using Google Search (Touchless Control), instead of using AutoVoice's separate voice recognization. So you can say AutoVoice commands using Touchless Control anytime.
Attached are some Tasker's AutoVoice profiles. Copy the xml files into /sdcard/tasker/profiles/. Tap on the Profiles tab in Tasker to import them. You also need to:
Install Xposed Framework and Google Search API modules. Open Google Search API app and make sure it recognize AutoVoice in the PLUGINS tab. (If it doesn't see AutoVoice, uninstall and reinstall AutoVoice.)
Install AutoVoice and buy AutoVoice Pro.
For my flashlight commands, also install TeslaLED.
For my GPS commands, also install Secure Settings for Tasker.
Make sure all the profiles are enabled and working in Tasker, then try saying these commands using Touchless Control: enable led, disable led, enable gps, disable gps, system lock.
The thing with AutoVoice is that the dev split his apps into too many pieces that you have to install and buy, filling up theapp drawer, sometimes it's more complicated than necessary. I would use a different app once there is more unified and user friendly alternative, like Motorola's Touchless Control, except Google Search doesn't let you control the hardware of the phone, probably due to patents.

Advantages of Rooting This phone.

Hey lads,
Going to have this phone soon and haven't yet found a reason to go rooting/custom rom rout, As it seems, it's quite well cooked as it is. So i'm wondering what are the Reasons you guys rooted your phones?
Can't you get that hide nav bar without root? and xposed framework work without root? We got some neat statusbar icon sets out and need rooting?
some other reason you had to root and 'void warrancy'?
The two reasons I did it on Verizon are for Greenify, and to enable free wifi tethering.
Here are my reasons:
Custom DPI to use with Action Launcher.

There are several useful apps that require superuser privileges. As far as I know one must root the phone to install and enable superuser.
Adaway and xposed framework with app settings and xprivacy.
Smaller navigation keys for WAY more screen real estate. Camera improvements. Debloated. These are a few so far. Here's a pic of the nav buttons.

Proper backup solutions. Hopefully things like this won't require root in the future.

Bloatware and Carrier IQ removal, Wi-Fi tethering on unlimited data plan, Xposed framework and various modules for it, essential root apps like AdAway, Root Explorer and Titanium Backup, Custom recovery with Nandroid backup functionality, ViPER4Android Audio Affects,... and list goes on and on. But most important benefit of all is that root access gives you freedom to do whatever you want with your device.
ROMs
I like rooting so I can install twrp and run aosp software. Cm alpha now.
Firewall
The phone came finally.
Had it for 30min's and couldnt resist rooting. Still on Stock rom but modified some.
My steps if anyone is wondering why and how,
1. Install root thread.
2. install TWRP thread easy method
And your all set. Take a TWRP backup from your phone, and you're safe to start tweaking.
Things i did,
1. Installed my favorite apps, titanium backup, romtoolbox and bbs etc... changed dpi and did backups.
1. Xposed+App Settings to get camera and msg apps back to 480 ( Using 360 dpi systemwide )
2. Xposed xprivacy (really liking this) for handling apps and what they can do. Found inside xposed on modules list.
3. Bought GMS autohide soft keys root from google play, seems like a godsend. Found on google play store.
4. Allso bought g2 xposed mod from play store for nice black statusbar. found on google play store.
Next in project list is to clear bloatware and find some nice status bar icons or autohide statusbar that works with stock rom.

Of you find a proper auto hide statusbar solution let me know. The best i came up with is forcing full screen in most apps with xposed app settings and putting a nova shortcut of "expand statusbar" into swipepad. Works but is too laggy now and then.
If you haven't got a firewall but want one take a look at afwall+ by the way. Easy setup and high practicability due to different profiles. If you got apps you don't want to completely deny Internet with xprivacy you can deny it at certain times with afwall+

Xposed Framwork

I am new to using Xposed and so far moving what I have figured out. In was curious to know what modules I should be running. I am Stock Rooted with no custom rom or anything. Thank you for any and all input.

What modules I Use
I have stock 4.3 Samsung ROM Note3, rooted.
I use "GravityBox" for most of my UI tweaks, with "Wanam Xposed" for more Samsung specific (like don't show NFC icon), Samsung keyboard extended symbols.
I love "App Settings" to set apps like: Gmail, Email, Chrome, Firefox into tablet mode with smaller font size, love Gmail app with tablet mode on the Note3.
I Use "NFC LockscreenOff" to get custom Tasker tasks being passed NFC tag information, even when the screen is off, to unlock my phone by tapping my wallet (contains an NFC Visa credit card).
"Greenify," for managing misbehaving apps.
"BootManager" even though I can probably get away with not using this, I still like it the most to select apps not to start at boot time (I see you Facebook).
Just the main Xposed modules I use, hope it gives you a few ideas.

I thought GravityBox was only for AOSP ROMs... We're touchwiz. I used it and loved it on my S3 running cyanogenmod11 (kitkat)... but I only use Wanam on my Note 3. There are overlaps in the mods between GB and Wanam... so if you have both installed, be careful.
I'd like to add snapshare and keepchat to the list of xposed modules, assuming you use snapchat. snapshare and fxguru (play store) are a good combo... I love sending my snapchat friends of dinosaurs walking through my yard, or aliens landing in the parking lot at work.

You are right, there is overlap and GravityBox is for ASOP, but I like the favorite application launcher (which can be accessed as an action of GravityBox) and a few other features of GravityBox (JB).

[Q] App that uses heart monitor?

Since shealth won't open on a new phonem how can I use this feature?

Of course shealth will open on a new phone. It's only after some people mod their systems that they run into conflicts, typically with Xposed framework. I have no idea if any apps use the heartrate sensor, you should search the Play store as well as XDA to answer that.
.

[Q] Tasker Plugin for android wear: dim screen, return home, left or rt swipe etc..

I'm looking for a Tasker plugin that can return my Gear Live (and now Moto 360) watch to its home screen (in order to minimize a google voice search). The google voice search is usually dealt with by a right swipe and opens up when I want to control my home via "ok google" on the watch. I'm using the xposed Google Now API module, Autovoice and Tasker in order for my watch to control my home.
What I want is to be able to force a right swipe on the watch via a Task in Tasker. However, it'd also be nice to be able to control the watch brightness, turn the screen on/off, send a left or right swipe, etc via any Task in Tasker.
Any suggestions on a Tasker plugin that does this or is anyone up for developing one? If you develop it and post it in the play store, I promise to buy it. I'm sure eventually others would follow as there are many Tasker users and no Tasker plugin to control an Android Wear device.
Thanks in advance!
I want tasker on wear too... and like you I can via commandr N Google now but 2 pull prefer a actual app or whatever.
Someone suggested a vibrate command on another site. I think it would be handy to have Tasker vibrate my watch.
Does commandr work with your watch without the google now api xposed module?

Solution is search intent for control watch from phone.
I search this But Not found information.

I thought intents only worked on the device the app was on? I think what's needed is a service on the watch that a tasker plugin talks to.

I'm waiting for this tasker plugin as well, the only thing I could find is Macrodroid
(Just search in google play, I can't post any links yet :crying:
It's similar to Tasker and has a few actions related to wear like Vibration, open apps, wake up, create notifications,....
It's quite good but I'd prefer a Tasker plugin in order to use the power of Tasker

Xposed Modules

What xposed modules are people using with their Nexus 6P? What would you recommend?
Depends on what you want to do.
>Greenify
>Xgels
>Youtube background playback
>Youtube adaway
>Power Nap
where do I find the powernap module? that sounds interesting but I dont see it in the download section.
I'm wondering too, what would benefit us the most when it comes to xposed modules thanks
Good thread idea

GravityBox MM (tons of mods available)
YouTube Ad away
App Settings (per app DPI, etc)
UnWatch (use airwatch on a rooted device)
ChromePie is great if you use Chrome.
Here are some of my favorite along side some already posted:
Maxlock - per app locking, with finger unlock.
Sensify - allowing play store use of HTC Sense apps
MinminGaurd - adblocker

If you purchase the pro version to greenify they offer a "power doze" setting/option. Sounds like it would be the same thing.
BootManager - stops some apps from starting up with phone
CustomShare - customizes share with menu
GravityBox - tons of tweaks
Greenify - hibernates apps
MaxLock - locks app - can use with fingerprint sensor
MinMinGuard - get rid of in-app ads
Notification Count - adds count of notifications on status bar (shows a 3 if you have 3 emails from gmail for example)
NotifyClean - removes apps from notification bar
Play Store Changelog - shows full changelog and can set store to open on your app page
Use USB for Marshmallow - forces usb to use mtp instead of having to manually select it each time
