My kindle is bricked and I have tried everything.
This is what i did: I rooted it, installed CM7, it worked fine. I then wanted to go back to the stock rom (due to countless FCs and freezing in CM) so i flashed the stock rom through TWRP. When i re-booted, the TWRP recovery screen no longer shows and it has the stock kindle fire logo on screen.
It does not show up in device manager in windows, I have re-installed the usb drivers multiple times. Any recovery methods using ADB simply result in "waiting for device" forever.
I have tried:
hard reset
fastboot commands
booting to linux live cd with firekit
kindle fire unbrick utility
None of these work because it does connect via usb
Anyone else have this problem>?
EDIT: Im fed up, ive tried every method on XDA and youtube, nothing works. I convinced amazon to replace it. Thanks anyways.

If you notice, that uses ADB shell. All of these commands result in "waiting for device" as it it not detected as a USB device
Sorry forgot to attach
Ok dont worry ive gotten my self into the same issue and lots of other ones lol
I just kept on trying different things.
it will be a driver issue Ill try to find the thread that got me out of it

I bricked mine last night and kept getting stuck at "waiting for device" and figured out Windows ceases to recognize it as something it has a driver for.
Windows Device Manager showed the Kindle with a yellow sign next to it. I right clicked and updated the driver but rather than detecting it at all I manually picked a device.
Don't have Windows in front of me right now but it was something like "Android Phone" for the device type and then the device was the first one listed "ADB Interface" or something starting with ADB anyway.
Once that driver was loaded I could issue ADB commands again and got it fixed.

Please do the KF rooting community a favor when you get your new kindle and stay away from rooting it. You obviosuly cant take the time to fix your own problems and would rather give amazon another reason to hate root users.

not very nice - I had same problem - stuck at boot logo.
instead of telling someone where to go maybe a fix would be better.

Well considering he already convinced amazon to send him a new one its a little too late, and others have already weighed in to help, its not very nice but its the truth. If he would have just waited more than an hour for people to try and help him he would probably have been able to fix it.
Jus a quick servh would give you the answers you're looking for. It's not bricked. So relax

Tell that to all the Nook Color users running CM7 or to Samsung, HTC and others that shipped tablets with Android 2.2 and 2.3

Hey, quick question. I'm having similar issues and want to just call it a day.
When you convinced Amazon to replace it, did you tell them it was rooted/modified? Also, are they shipping you a new one just like that? Or do you have to send yours back first. Thanks! A response would be very much appreciated.
i had an issue last night and spent seven hours between dos and reading forums and couldn't find the answer, but at 630 this morning i got it and retested it today again by rebricking it and fixing it and it has to be the easiest thing that i've ever done.
unplug your kindle
turn your computer off
turn off your kindle with a hard reset
turn the computer back on and plug the kindle in
turn the kindle back on
in kindle utilities hit 1 and press enter
then hit 1 and press enter
it should go to reset your kindle and say it's done and to press any button to continue but don't press anything until your kindle is back on the splash menu
it worked for me when i couldn't find anything else to do and is way to simple to not try, so i hope it helps someone else

This is exactly what happened. Because it didn't have the TWRP recovery screen or anything, any average tech support person wouldnt be able to tell it had been rooted. The failure actually happened after installing the stock rom so im pretty sure if they even take the time to inspect it, they wil see an unused, unrooted stock rom on the devoce

Thanks, but this only works if it connects over usb. Doing this results in "waiting for device" as mentioned before
I am thinking about getting a Kindle Fire tomorrow and was wondering(just wanting to make sure), could I use this tool(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889) to root and install the Android Market right out of the box?
I am not new to Android(I own an Xperia Play), just new to the tablet scene...
that is what kfu (kindle fire utility) is supposed to do
but please read the op very carefully - espacially the "known tricks" - to avoid problems
a post from vashypooh - the dev of kfu:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20945694&postcount=506
the most challenging thing is to get drivers working
read here about it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22342376&postcount=6
Since you already have Android, you also can simply load anything from the Android Market onto your Xperia and then grab it to your PC and install it to the fire using adb. That doesn't even require rooting the Fire.

not realy
maybe a little hassle with the drivers if you have bad luck
if you have a choice of computers then a 32bit system is easier to get rid of the drivers - if you have xp available it would be my first choice because you don't have to care about the uac (user access control)
if your working with it you will make your experiences and it is likely that you have sooner or later a little little problem (brick). it's called brick but mostly it is'nt realy a brick - it is simply a other bootmode - if you know how to handle it it's a matter of seconds
don't worry - i have never seen a realy bricked one besides of hardware failure
there is allways a way out ...

Thank you. I am on Windows 7 64-bit. Yeah, as I said earlier, I'm not new to Android. I have a Xperia Play rooted and custom rom(the whole shibang).
What do you think the chances are of me running into issues? All I want to do is just root it and get the market, thats it
if you just root and install the market the chances to run into issues are quite low
One thing I did that caused a problem was, when it rebooted after installing firefirefire with the triangle and fire it said press power button for recovery and I did. I didn't realize that I hadn't installed TWRP yet so it got stuck on the fire screen and wouldn't boot. I finally got it fixed by running a KFU command at just the right time to get it out of the loop. So, just a tip, DON'T BE AS DUMB AS I WAS AND PUSH THE BUTTON... Anyway it should go smoothly.
KFU is a great program and the most recent version includes updates to limit bricking your device. The hardest part to it all, IMO is installing the google usb driver. I guess that depends if you use the traditional Android SDK method or the easier method available now. Make sure you use the KFU version 0.9.3 as it is tailored towards the 6.2.2 update that was recently pushed to all Kindle Fires. KFU literally roots your device and installs all necessary items in 3 or 4 button pushes. Good luck.

As we all know Kindle fire hd is a great device I rooted my Kindle Last week and i had google play store and everything on it. And now im stuck on the boot Animation screen all i can do it turn it on and off.:crying::crying::crying::crying: I understand you need a factory cable to fix it. Which is already bought of the internet today and waiting for delivery soon. For some reason i still got a conenction with my kindle through ADB. Is there any way i can unbrick my device i am willing to take the biggest risks since Amazon already said they will send me a new one.

Yes you can as long as ADB still recognizes your Kindle. Here is a link to a post when I had the same issue. Use the tool provided by onmelia(make sure you thank him or donate) and follow his instructions to the T. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097196 There is also another link that is for Kindle Fire for Begginers that explains a lot and was very helpful to me when I had the same problem:good:

Dont do it, that apps arent compatible with the kindle fire hd, see my post and download the version you are, and you will have a fully tweaked build.prop and init.d scripts. This were already tested by me and fully work
And buy fastboot before tweaking anything

Optic_Vithu,
I am sorry we were not available when this first happened, we could have gotten you in business in less than 10 - 15 minutes.
We have a utility that completely automates the recovery process, here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888
We are offering images with several options next week like Google Play Store, Google Apps, Apex Launcher, etc.
The other option if you prefer to do it command line, onemeila has a great how to as well, just Search for Kindle Fire Recovery.
The factory reset doesnt put it back to 5.4.0.0 anymore, it keeps it at 5.4.0.1. The device was 5.4.0.0 when I purchased it.

If you are on 5.4.0.1, you cannot uninstall/disable system apps anymore. You can try to downgrade back to 54.0.0 using the firmware here. A few new users reported a hard brick when they tried. I don't know whether that holds any truth or not. No regular users, that I have seen (may have missed them), have tried.
Hi DragonFire, thank you for the response. Do you know how to install that version of the OS, I tried to use the system update tool in device settings but it wont allow me due to "older version."

Put the file into the internal storage of your tablet. Power off. Reboot to recovery by pressing and holding volume down first, then power button until Amazon logo appears. When recovery screen comes up, select update from ADB. Open an ADB window and type:
adb sideload your.file.name
Warning: A few users say this will hard brick your device. Though no regular users have tried that I know of. So the decision is yours. I am not responsible for a broken tablet.

Also see this thread. Apparently you CAN downgrade. If you try, and are successful, please let us know.
Hello DragonFire,
For the Fire HD 8 7th Generation on 5.4.0.1, the attempt to downgrade to 5.4.0.0 using "adb sideload <filename>" in recovery failed, but the device was not bricked, everything was fine. The recovery simply showed that signature verification of the package failed.
Both good news and bad news I guess. I did a factory reset before installing the 5.4.0.0 file.

I forget...is there an option to update from SD card? If so you can try that.
EDIT: That having been said, I don't know the other methods (if there are any) to downgrade, as I have never done it.
Hello DragonFire,
Don't see the option for SD card.
The link you gave me on this thread is for Fire (7th Generation). I saw there is another link on amazon for Fire HD 8 (7th Generation). I used the one for Fire HD 8 (7th Generation) and the downgrade failed, bricking the device. Can not power it on or do anything.
No way to downgrade Fire HD 8 7th Generation for now unless you want to hard brick it.
This doesn't void the warranty does it? I didnt really break or hack anything, just try to restore it back to the good old 5.4.0.0

No. If you want to return it to Amazon for a courtesy replacement, you have 30 days from the day of purchase.
The warranty is 90 days though, I asked the support and they told me to mail the device to them and they will either fix it or send me a replacement

90 days is new unless you purchased a better warranty. If not, 90 is great news!
Amazon has a best customer support in a whole world (especially for the Prime members. BTW, do you know, any of your friends with the Amazon Prime can add you (i.e. your Amazon account) to his Prime account without any trouble? Actually, no proof of the family membership required), telling you like a very long-long time Amazon customer (practically since launch in the year 1997 or 98?).
P.S. Last couple of years Amazon's customer support has become a little worse (because of the massive outsourcing) but IMHO still the best on the world.
I really dont have any friends So no friends can help me test it out, sorry.

5.4.0.1 downgrade
Recently bought Fire HD 8 (7th gen). It came with 5.4.0.1. Tried booting into stock recovery and side loading update-kindle-50.5.7.9_user_579225620.bin in order to downgrade back to 5.4.0.0.
It went though following steps:
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
Installing update
Patching system image unconditionally
script succeeded: result was []
Install from ADB complete
I rebooted, and baam dead tablet. Nothing on screen at all. Even tried vol down plus power.
Lesson is.. if youre on 5.4.0.1 - dont try this at home kids!

If you have an HD 8, regardless of the generation, you CANNOT downgrade back to 5.4.0.0. However, if you have a 7th generation Fire 7, you CAN downgrade. Weird eh?

Totally weird. But this is the game we play with any hardware vendor to achieve freedom on our devices. It's fun
Here's some more info:
I still have no activity on the tablet screen, but when I connect USB cable to PC and hit power button, PC will ding the new hardware connected sound. About a second later the disconnected hardware ding sounds.
I was able to verify the new hardware found is labeled by Windows as "MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM (Android)" It disappears in sync with the disconnect sound.
I don't think it's completely bricked - I'll keep posting results of what I can get it to do from here.
Update: Couldn't get it to do anything else - Asking AMZ for a do over (replacement)
Fire HD 8 v5.4.0.1 is NOT DOWNGRADABLE - confirmed!
Hey there,
just tried to downgrade my Fire HD 8 (7th gen) v5.4.0.1 to the version 5.4.0.0 using the file "update-kindle-50.5.7.9_user_579225620.bin" and, as unfortunately expected, hard bricked the poor thing. Fire doesn't react on power button or any other buttons - just black screen. Using the same method I downgraded today my Fire 7 (7th gen) and everything went really good.
So guys, yet another (sad) confirmation here that the Fire HD 8 (7th gen) is not downgradable.

So far as I know, none of the HD 8s can be downgraded, regardless of the generation.
Hi,
I used adb sideload to upgrade my firmware so I could root my Kindle fire HD 8 and stuff, but since I didn't know which version I was on to begin with, I guess I flashed the wrong version. Stayed dead after pressing reboot in recovery. Well, that was stupid, but I never had a brick this bad on any of my numerous android phones.
So, to summarize:
Doesn't turn on.
No lights or anything when charging (Does it even have a notification light?)
Doesn't get recognised on 3 different pcs, not by device manager on windows or dmesg on linux.
Not only doesn't get recognised, but just nothing in device manager or anywhere, absolutely nothing.
Can't get into recovery.
Got a fastboot cable, connected it, no reaction what so ever.
So all in all, that's it isn't it? I destroyed it by installing the wrong firmware? I have done that many times on different phones but was always able to get into recovery or fastboot.
If you guys have any Ideas, I appreciate it.
Thanks in advance, Fritz

I'm very sorry for you. But, I'll have to say, that's it.
Amazon has a very strange way of preventing downgrade, they have an exclusive process looking for a version mismatch, and when it detects a version mismatch, it terminates the installation in a special ... way. Effectively bricking the device by failing the signatures and files of every partition, purposefully. I confirmed this myself by looking at the abandoned logs a Fire device produced before it shutted down forever.
If that's the 7th Gen model, please contact an Amazon representative. They should offer you a replacement for your device, but your data is gone.
Good luck!
