Help with S4 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I want to install a rom onto my s4 but don't want it to be that different so how do I do it I have a I337 MK2

Do a lot of reading. Start with the pinned threads in the general forum

Agreed... read and search... read and search...also be aware there are 2 variants in this forum..... i337 which you have and the i337m which is Canadian / Mexico.... the roms are not interchangeable.. Be certain that the rom you are going to install is for your phone... if you don't see any posts from people with i337 it is probably best to stay away... most dev's will stipulate which phone the rom is for... if you don't know.. search the rom thread your interested in for i337..... you will see any posts that contain your model..... I can't emphasize enough how important that it is to read carefully.....

If you browsed any of the posts on the first page, you would have seen that i9000 firmwares flashed onto other Galaxy S devices were unsafe. Please refrain from posting about, let alone modifying, devices which you don't understand.
Mods: please move this discussion into Q&A.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Google Edition ROM 'System Update'

Hi there,
I'm new to ROMs and stuff...actually new to Android. Just switched after many years of iOS...since the start actually.
Basically I've got an S4 and I've put the Google Edition ROM on it. Now it's saying a system update is available and I can't seem to hide it from the notification tray etc.
I read somewhere that if you're using a custom ROM you shouldn't apply system updates? So before I do anything is that true? Should I not install it? If not.... how do I hide the update...
Thanks for your help
Kirk.
This is not the sub-forum for the Galaxy S4 - this is the Galaxy S4 Active forum. The S4 Active is the water-resistant version of the S4; they do not share ROMs and many other respects. The sub-forum you want is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2162
The Galaxy S4 Active has a locked bootloader (the AT&T SGH-i537 version, the International version has been unlocked iirc) and is a completely different beast with respect to ROMs and whatnot compared to the hugely popular S4.

There are MANY models of S4 and some will make your $700 phone a paperweight if you use the wrong software. Make sure you are in the correct device forum. Moved to correct forum.

Dusting off my old ATT S4 (OC3 unrooted). Can I get an AOSP(ish) 5.1 rom?

Please point me to the correct thread. Thanks!
At&t SGH-I337 phones have a locked bootloader. It is impossible to install a custom kernel, so there are no AOSP based roms that can run on this phone. You are restriced to Touchwiz based roms only. There is plenty of information here about how to do this. The best place to start is a sticky thread in the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General forum titled [Index] All Things AT&T... by guut13.

Custom rom for note 3 sm-n9007

Hi all, I've just joined and have just finished rooting my Samsung galaxy note 3 sm-n9007. I've tried searching on the net for custom rom but they all seem to be for other variants of the note 3. Can someone point me in the right direction. I did notice the cm14 rom but that was for sm-n9005 so I'm assuming it won't be compatible. In case you can't tell I'm far from being a pro at this sort of thing but just wanted to try a different rom out as I'm sick of Android 5.0. Thanks in advance, Michael.
Hi there,
I will move your thread in the correct forum dedicated to Galaxy Note 3 Q&A for more relevant answers.
Good luck

Thanks, yeah it does seem like that. There's plenty for the n9005 but I'm assuming I can't use those rooms on my n9005?

Be sure to open up the ROM post on the forum and read the compatibility list. In most cases, they use N9005 as a base but it also might be compatible with other variants
For example I'm using an n7 port which only mentions compatibility with the N9005 (but it does not say EXCLUSIVE for the N9005) but as I kept reading on the same post, I learned that the N900T (my variant) is also supported to install
So please read the forum carefully and/or use the search function on that thread. You'd be surprised to know how many people have asked if their Note 3 variant is also supported
Hope this helps!
