play store "insufficient storage" no fix works - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I'm getting the play store "insufficient storage" notice (for almost every different app I try) despite having 8 GB of "free" internal storage and 20 GB of "free" ext. SD storage available. I unsuccessfully tried all the following supposed fixes:
Cleared Play store cash/data before and/or after a forced stop and including uninstalling play store updates.
Forced stopped "Google service framework"
Recovery->>cleared cash partition and dalvkc cash
Re-installing Gapps
running app cache cleaner
However, I WAS able to install grooveshark.apk apart from the play store with no problems.
Could this have anything to do with a LCD resolution change?
Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I sick of factory resets, and am under the impression that even a factory reset may not fix the problem.

I had the same problem on my Nexus 7. If you use ES File Explorer don't forget to enable root browsing otherwise you won't see the folders.
This is what you need. You have to delete the folders for the apps that won't update in /data/app-lib/APP-PATH(that has this error)
Edit
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2443267

Double-check your link there, that's the link to the latest firmwares.
Anyway, use your favorite root file manager (or adb/terminal, if you're feeling brave) to do the folder delete.

[Q] Can't install apps due to "Insufficient Storage Available"

As the title says, I cannot install apps while, in fact, I have 3gb free. I cannot install apps such as Titanium Backup, Jewels Star, and Browser for Skydrive. Has anyone else had this issue and fixed it? This has only started occurring today, and yes, I am rooted. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well I'm not exactly sure this is the issue or not, but for example, the Nexus 7 16 gb has like 13 gb free, but not all of that partition is available for applications. There is 2gb of allotted space for apps, and anything that exceeds that will have to be moved to a flash drive or an sd card in a USB adapter via an otg cable.
Go in Lucky Patcher and click on the three dots bottom right corner, than choose troubleshooting, choose the remove fixes and backup option.

got this problem after an OTA update for my alcatel ot 995. a really big thank you for your info.
I tried both the lucky patcher and titanium backup ways and still have insufficient storage :'((((
I have also this same error with Nexus 7 16GB. Can't update/install new apps, even like size of 1MB apps. I have 501MB available. I have already tried "Forever Gone" and "Lucky Patcher" fixes and wiped cache and dalvik cache. Any suggestions what to do?
Insufficient Storage Available
Got this error recently too on my GN 7, with 11 GBs of free space.
Situation: Went to play Angry Birds Star Wars Edition. Selextred the icon on my desktop but got an error message stating the game was not installed (after being there for several weeks). Checked my App Drawer and confirmed it was not there. Went to Google Play, hit download on the game, started to install and then got the dreaded error message: Insufficient Storage Available.
Steps Taken: Went into settings, Apps, cleared cache and data, removed large apps but nothing worked. Tried "Lucky Patcher" and "MarketFix", no luck (pun intended).
Solution (FYI Root access required):
1. Using ES File Explorer, navigated to /data/app and deleted Angry Birds Star Wars Edition .apk.
2. Using ES File Explorer, navigatd to /data/app-lib and deleted Angry Birds Star Wars Edition folder.
3. Back to Google Play, downloaded App and no error, problem solved!
My guess is that somehow the system no longer see's the app folder, even though its still there. So when you go to download it, or in other cases update it, Google Play does its thing and crashes when it encounters the files. Its not expecting to see them and then can't figure out what to do when it finds them. My uneducated guess is that the error message itself isn't reflective of the issue, just a generic error message (sounds like something Microsoft was good at ).
This worked for me, may not work for you. At a high level, I think you have to remove the offending application and re-install it. If its multiple apps, you may need to remove them all or perhaps something else is going on. Hope this helps, I was relieved when I got my the issue resolved.
While this article is from 2012, I'm experiencing a problem with my rooted Nexus 10 where certain apps will not update and the system throws the "insufficient storage available" error while I have 17.5gb of free space. The apps in question include (Lastpass, Netflix and Weatherbug). Other apps (Google Docs, Google Sheets and RootChecker) update just fine. I'm running the Paranoid Android ROM (version 4.43, released 07/15/2014). I queried the PA community but no reply. I also emailed support at Lastpass, but no answer as of yet. I'm holding off on updating the Nexus 5 to 4.43 until I figure out if the ROM update is causing this issue. I don't recall this problem appearing when 4.42 was running.

Thank you so much. I deleted the app and app-lib folders and my download completed.
I haven't checked to see if it fixed just that app, or all apps, because this seems to be an issue for all apps currently installed.
Either way, the one I needed to update, has done so, because of your advice.
Thank you.

[Q] error insufficient storage on one app (not others)

Hey everyone I installed smart app protector and wanted to get rid of the ads so I used lucky patcher. Then I decided I just wanted to use ad block, so I uninstalled the app and tried to reinstall to get it back to the original. Well when I try to reinstall it it gives me the space error. I can install any other app but this one. I tried clearing data on play and services, clearing all cache, and tried installing from the actual play website. I haven't tried side loading it yet as I couldn't find a download. I also tried re-flashing the stock ROM but I didn't clear my user data. That obviously also unrooted my tablet. Anyways any suggestions?
Edit I have 3 GB of free data and I tried side loading, same error. Anyways something had to of got messed up in the file system related to this app.. Maybe some sort of left over file or something? When using lucky patcher I noticed it said something about odex file? Maybe it left an odex file or something?
Try:
Rescan SD
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS51YmVydWxsdS5yZXNjYW5zZCJd
Not exactly sure what that's sposed to do but I installed it opened it then tried installing the app lock and still gives me the error. By the way I forgot to mention I have 3 GB free data.
Ok, next thing to try:
Delete all browser history/data/cache.
Empty your downloads folder, use a file explorer and not the actual downloads app.
Also delete all files/folders relating to AdBlock that you can personally find.
Also Clear Data/Cache etc from GooglePlay and Play Services.
Reboot.
Re-download
Install.
Let me know how you get on
Hey I got it fixed. I got a lucky patcher update and when I opened it it said removing unused odex file, then I was able to install it again..
Something to consider about apps which are designed specifically to assist in the defrauding of others:
if the developer has no regard or consideration for other developers, it is a certainty that they will have the same disregard for you.
And you gave them root on your device; good luck with how that all turns out.
RE: error insufficient storage on one app (not others)
Remove odex file that app from root/data/app...
The file will be named like "com.appName...-1.odex".
OR
Just run lucky patcher..

LG L2 32Gb, stock: Insufficient space (20Gb free on 25)

Hello everybody,
Please forgive me if I’ve been not able to find a correct answer to my question searching in the forum…. bun now I’m going mad, so I come with the question (on my LG G2 D802 32Gb, 1x month old, rooted with Kingo, stock ROM, w/out TWRP):
Hello,
My problem is that with my LG-G2 32Gb (model number LG-D802), only rooted, with stock rom, and only a few apps installed, I’m no longer to install applications, as the system reply with “insufficient space” error message.
Actually I’ve got removed most of the images, and no MP3 are left in the handy, but even if 20Gb on 25Gb are still free (please let me know how to get a detailed view of the used space/directories, and I’ll post it here) I cannot use them to install/update applications.
I’m able to upgrade some apps from Google store, but most of them are files below 5Mb…. Applications downloaded from Firefox, or newer install from Google Store, or applications bigger than 5Mb brings in the error message.
Please help me, I’m getting crazy!
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any question.
Best regards,
Marco.
Can someone help me please?
Thanks in advance,
Marco.
Try to delete data and cache of play store and play services, but I doubt it will work. Full wipe is propably the only way to fix this, as far as I know.

Thanx Makrilli!
Which folders are containing cache of play store and play services?
I'd prefer to avoid a full wipe but...... is there any way to backup applications, their settings, system setting and so on, ir order to restore all of them after a full wipe in order to get back the phone with all my items, but without the insufficient space issue?
Look here maybe http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602234
Also if you go to apps/downloaded on the bottom you see used and free... How much u have there?

Go to settings>apps>all (I'm not sure what it is literally as I'm on aosp) and look there for google play store and google play services, and wipe their data and cache from there. About backups I'm not sure as I'm using titanium backup but it needs root to function :/

Using SD Maid i've been able to clean several cache/unused/lost megabytes...
Now Apps/Downloaded indicates 4.6gb used on 20gb, but still cannot install some apps.... .
I don't mean deleting some folder from internal storage. I'd just suggest to go to settings and from there delete the data of those as I suggested. Also try to delete your google account and add it again.

erm so you had 5gb used before and now sd maid deleted something and now you have 4.6gb free ?
can you post a screen shot ? and then take x-plore or (or some other file manager that can do that) and long press sdcard and select properties. its gonna tell us how much stuff you have on your "sdcard"
use a file size tool. Forget which one it was, but you can get all files shown with size and sort them by size wherever they reside. Then you can google which is causing this.
I wager its a logfile thats dramatically increased. edit this one maybe: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gridsizefree

Obviesly everybody on this thread is trying to help you and that's cool. But I really think if you have over 20 gb of free space, I think it's something else than lack of space, I and one of my classmates have had this exact same thing in the past. Only factory reset helped

It starts to be tricky somehow....
Uninstalled old version of Whatsapp, than installed the latest sized 10Mb. (downloaded to download directory with Firefox), and everything went ok.
Downloaded (to download directory with Firefox) an application sized 11Mb, and installed with no issue at all.
Uninstalled gps program Navigon (now in settings/application/installed brings 3,6Gb used on 21Gb free)
Downloaded (from Google store) an application sized 5.0Mb, and error message pops up.
Downloaded (to pc, than moved do download folder) application above sized 5.0Mb, and error message pops up, so i suppose it depends not from the file size, but somehow from the application (i suppose the .apk file will be exploded to a folder that allows not enough space).
Downloaded (from Google store) an application sized 5.0Mb, and error message pops up.
Downloaded (from Google store) an application sized 5.0Mb, and error message pops up.
Downloaded (independently from folder) an application sized 1.26Mb, and error message pops up.
Downloaded (independently from folder) an application sized 13.0Mb (10x times bigger than application above) without issues!!!
Any idea on what's going on in my crazy G2 32Gb?
You could try to copy everything from internal memory to computer and format your internal memory. But I don't know about formating with a pc as I've only done it with twrp :/

Are you rooted? If you are, there might be some remaining .odex files that the system does not need. Install Lucky Patcher, start it, grant it su permissions and it should automatically remove the unnecessary .odex files.
Hi Robogo, you mean to run and than exit from Luckypatcher, without doing anythin else?
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
When you run it, you should get a notification that an unused .odex file is removed.

[Q] insufficient storage available CM11

hello,
I am having this problem since a week now on my Galaxy S4 I9505 with CM11 rom. When I try to install a new app from the playstore or when I try to update an app, I get this insufficient storage available error. but when I go and look how much space there is available. I see there is more then 5GB+ available in the internal storage. I read a lot about it in several topics and forums and I tried all solutions and nothing worked. I tried emptying my cache, updated the rom to the latest nightly build, emptying dalvik-cache. can somebody help with this problem. its driving me crazy
any help would be appreciated

Hi mate
Is a playstore error
1 Delete the app that is giving you problems at /data/app-lib
2 If the problem continues delete the app at /data/data
3 If problem continues delete also the app at /data/app
You may lose the settings of the app , backup app before you do anything
hello,
thank you for your very fast reply. but the problem does not only persist on apps that need updates but also on new apps I never installed before. so the app doenst have any folder in one of the locations you mentioned. and let me give you another example. I downloaded xbmc apk manually en tried to install it manually and it gave me a similar error like in the play store.

Hi
But what about the ones that need update , did you delete the folders of those to see if it helps?
Also clear data and cache from google play framework
Do you use ROM Manager to create Nandroid backups? Or ClockworkMod Recovery in general?
If so you may very well have your nandroid backup tacking up all that space.
ROM Manager defaults to save your backups in the internal storage and then hides the files so they can't be accidentally deleted.
This results in the file manager showing available space that really isn't available.
Delete the old nandroids or move them to the external SD card to make room.

Google Play Insufficient Storage

Got my OP8P a week ago. I have since rooted and installed Nethunter and have had a great time
Recently started getting the error that i have "insufficient storage" and google play will no longer install any apps. Even if i delete an app it says it cant install.
Now im stuck without two apps i wanted.
I have cleared cache and storage on google play and still the error persists. I have restarted numerous times.
If i download the APK it installs fine
I have 160GB free on my phone so its a bit disappointing
Any ideas?

Check under settings (within phone) / apps / Google play / permissions / storage
Also does it have the right to install apps.
Guessing you're rooted, turn on systemless and reboot.
So it has all needed permissions. And I've already installed a few apps from the store
I tried the "systemless" from magisk and rebooted...no dice
So weird, it randomly started working today. I can now download apps off google play.
I nearly cried tears of joy.
To all concerned i did nothing out of the ordinary besides install APK's manually from apkpure.com
Interestingly enough when i downloaded spotify it wouldnt open. just kept crashing
after downloading from google play it opened right up
Glad you got it sorted! cheers
Well just when i thought i was in the clear....
it came back. but worse this time
Now when i get that error my phone seems to loose its storage altogether
by that i mean once it says insufficient storage on google play my pictures will ALL disappear
if i go to the file explorer it tells me there is NOTHING on my phone at all
if i reboot it will start working again but then will usually fail once i get an error regarding the oneplus system service
still trying to figure this out. i may roll back to Oxygen OS 11 (vs. 11.0.2.2)

It is now affecting me outside of the play store. I cant take pictures and when i use file explorer (the oneplus app not root file explorer or any third party app) it says i dont have any files at all
This can only be fixed with a restart and it seems to come back at random times. hasnt done it it a while but im sure it will
