1. This should not be here but instead in the Q&A section.
2. Did the pen worked OK before?
3. If it worked - what changed? (it can also be hardware)
4. If it never worked - read the stickie thread on fakes.

Multi Window Issue

I came over from AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 to the S4. I backed everything up with Titanium Backup on S3 and restored it on S4. Did I maybe break the Multi Window Function that way?
Push and holding the back button does not do anything.
How would I quickly restore the Multi Window Function without a hard reset?
Any input would be welcome.
Thanks
Drag down your notification Window, click the top right bottom and make sure multi Window is on

The phone should be in a parallel position with respect to the ground. Lying flat. Or else it doesn't work

Put it on the flat surface and wait for a while, don't move the phone at all...
Once there's no movement for a while, the phone thinks its no more in your hands, the quick glance will work...
You can try going to Settings -> My Devices -> Motion and gestures -> Air Gestures -> Quick glance -> "Try It" to see if it works...
Not working also. I were try all the way like change to swipe lock screen, put on flat surface and not touching for a minute but still not working. I think i should take a video and show it to you tomorrow. Any more way to recomment?

If that is not working, you've a faulty unit?
The infra-red sensors are on top of the phone, near the front-facing camera...
It works when i use the (try it) and i make sure the quick glance option is ✔, after that i turn my phone's screen off and try it, it doesnt work I saw many people facing the same problem in Note2 before that.

I have the same problem here with my GT-I9500.
But it worked before and now works only once in a while.
Any help?
I noticed that it doesn't work sometimes ... but most of the time it's fine ...i believe it has to do with the sensors giving wrong measurements about the positioning of the phone ... or maybe some bug ...
My GS4 Quick glance stopped working few days ago unless I restarted my phone and it would only work once so I don't know what's wrong with it..

same here, quick glance not working. I put my phone on flat surface, I tried "Try It" and it works fine and sometimes my phone turns on quick glance even though Im not moving anything in front of it. My lockscreen is set for swipe, no serious mods, just rooted i9505
EDIT: uninstalling performance booster really helped!
You need calibrate the sensor with commands in terminal. I did it and now its working fine. Its an easy process, but need root.

Quick Glance Switching to Lock Screen
I have the same issue, when I do the Quick glance on the Try screen it works. When I use it, for some reason it starts like it should then it switches to the Lock screen like I hit the main or power button. I am also having an issue with it smart pausing, I believe they are inter related.

[Q] SNote and Formula Match

Hi, I'm from France so please excuse me in advance if there are any mistakes in English :fingers-crossed:
I just bought and received my Galaxy Note 3 and I'm playing around, discovering (I had a GS3 before :laugh.
Anyway, I'm studying medecine right now and I could use the "Formula Match" part of the SNote app. However, it seems not to be in the GN3.
Sooo, I came here expecting that maybe you guys could help me on this
And if the "Formula Match" was not part of the "factory" GN3 is there anyway to download it somewhere or download something that does the same exact thing
Thank you guys for your help
You just have to use laso tool to select your formula and the press transform to and then formula type

But is there a way to actually pull the results of the written formulas like it was available on the GNote 10.1?
Anyone?
Maybe s memo from the Play Store?
That's the version that was on the note 2.

I found a way to search formulas on wolfram alpha.
1. - Long press menu capacitive button (brings up search)
2. - Hover the s-pen over the search box and tap the s-pen onscreen button when it appears
3. - Switch to formulas (appears as f(x), (between back and magnifying glass)).
4. - You can now draw your formula
5. - Then hit the magnifying glass to search wolfram alpha.
Hope this helps.

Disable capacative buttons and home button?

Is there a way to disable the capacitive buttons and home button and just have the software buttons like the old Note 10.1?

Not without root.

Just curious. Why? I find on screen buttons majorly annoying such as with gaming and always touching them by accident thereby ruining the experience.
Why would you want that? Less user space due to almost 10% taken up by a fixed navigation bar. To each their own, but the current design is a key reason why I prefer the 2014 and one of the things the iPad gets right over other Android tablets. Fixed navigation bars IMO are space wasters- especially on phones or 7" tablets.
Both have their pros and cons, but I like how with the old setup the buttons are always on the bottom left no matter how you turn the screen. With the new setup since the buttons are physical they can't reorient as you turn the tablet. I also find I accidentally will hit the buttons when holding the tablet in portrait.

We're still in the baby stages of root so I'm not exactly sure but usually you can flash a zip, use a custom ROM, or edit the build prop to get on screen navigation. Xposed framework probably has a module for this too.

For me, the method mentioned on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244625&page=2
works perfectly on my 2014 10.1 note, too. Touch input disabled, pen input still working.
For navigation, I would suggest to try out the GMD spen and gesture apps.

+1. This is exactly how I did it on my Note II. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to do the same on this tablet. I probably will and load LMT pie.

I don't have my Note yet, but what I think I might like would be the ability to use the hardware buttons in landscape and in portrait mode disable them and show on-screen buttons.
Is there a way to make the capacitive buttons only react to the pen while it's in use? I'm worried about touching them while writing on the tablet.

I use the stylus to take notes everyday at work and I've never had a problem with the buttons. I'm not saying it can't happen, but it hasn't proven to be an issue for me.

Awesome, working great on the first try for me as well, thanks!
EDIT: Actually the capacitive buttons seem to still be working, unfortunately.
EDIT2: OK, got it now. Need to do 3 things to totally disable buttons.
1) comment out lines for key 158 and 139 in Generic.kl
2) comment out lines for key 158 and 139 in sec_touchscreen.kl
3) comment out line for key 172 in gpio-keys.kl
Now the hardware buttons are disabled, but the capacitive buttons work with the s-pen (which I'll probably never use, but is OK with me). Whew. I wish they had left those buttons off entirely. Who uses this thing with the pen in landscape mode?

No multitasking without gesture hints

Hey guys,
as it says.
I've found that multitasking doesn't work with gesture navigation...unless I have gesture hints enabled.
Anyone else come across this? Or am I doing something wrong?
Edit: slide multitasking using the home button/swipe

Works fine without hints. You can try reset settings by searching for it in settings, then wipe cache in recovery.
Ah sorry bud, I should have said "slide multitasking" using the home button.
Thank you for replying though.
What are you talking about ?
Download Good Lock from the Galaxy Store then open it and download task changer. Might be a good substitute.

You are correct that this does not work. Without gesture hints or buttons there is no way to slide your finger across the bottom to advance the app cards. I reported it to Samsung but they classified it as an enhancement, as though they intended to design it in this broken and inconsistent way. Anyway, entire implementation of gestures on this phone is way behind iPhone X and OnePlus.
