Android 4.3 on Note 8 - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) General

I called Samsung Galaxy support today to talk about an unrelated issue with my GT-N5120 and was asked if I was on the latest firmware 4.3.
I asked if she wasn't confusing the Note 8 with the Note 3 and she said no. 4.3 is the latest firmware for Galaxy Note 8 and it is gradually being rolled out.
I am still going to maintain my scepticism about her knowledge when she maintained that the GT-5120 was 3G only despite my protests. She had to put me on hold a few times before she conceded that I was right. :banghead:
Still she re-assured me that 4.3 is being in the process of rolling out to Note 8.
Take it with a pinch of salt.

hah hah hah hah hah...now that's funny:silly:
she is obviously confused....but really wish she is right on 4.3...but I doubt that!!

I'm cool with 4.2.2. My tab runs fine and has no bugs. The way I look at it, 4.3 does not bring anything new to the table except for potential problems (wish I could go back to 4.2.2 on my S4, but can't due to the new KNOX bootloader). I'll take 4.4 when it comes out though.

I just.....

Galaxy Note II to skip Android 4.2.2 and go straight for 4.3

now.note 2 willnot have 4.2..direct 4.3 here is proof
Australian carrier Telstra has received a confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy Note II 4G model will skip Android 4.2.2 and will be updated straight to the 4.3 Jelly Bean. It doesn't seem to be a regional thing either - all Galaxy Note II units might be treated that way.
Here is the official quote from Telstra's support page:
Samsung have elected globally to skip the 4.2.2 update for this device and will instead go to a newer version of Android. No schedule has been provided for this update.
We already know that Samsung Galaxy Note II will live long enough to taste the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, so owners shouldn't worry about the Android updates.
Meanwhile, Samsung still manages to keep the upcoming Galaxy Note III under wraps, but a picture taken with it popped up in Picasa yesterday. It hardly gives us much info, but it does confirm the device model number - N9005. This will most probably going to be the Snapdragon 800 version of the phablet with the revamped Exynos 5 powering the N9000 version.
The Note III will be announced on September 4 ahead of IFA in Berlin. It's expected to bring 5.7" 1080p Super AMOLED display and 3GB of RAM.

I guess I'll post something before all the complainers get here. I would've liked 4.2.2. I love the expandable notification drawer.

I'm in the same boat. There's no other device that I want, and the Note III is still far away. The 4.2.2 update was supposed to come out and make that bridge, that's why I find it very disappointing to hear those news.
Nice to see a 4.3 update will come to our devices but this will be arround end october/ november prolly.
With the Note III to come out
Great battery, superb performance, tons of apps and mods. Not bothered with official updates.

LOL @ the complaints.
Oh how truly awful it is for you! You have to wait a little to get an update that most 2012 phones will never even see Officially, must be hearbreaking and truly disappointing that your phone is being supported and getting the very latest and greatest OS version.
I bet the very same people would be complaining if Samsung updated the Note2 to 4.2.2 now and took even longer to update it to 4.3 and 5.0.
By the way, can someone name me one other 2012 Android phone sitting on 4.2.2 other than the Nexus 4? also, please name me one OTHER 2012 Android phone, other than Note2 (plus possibly GS3) and N4 that is confirmed to be getting 4.3?

That's totally beside the point. It shouldn't have to take them >8 months to push out the latest version.
As of now we need to wait for the updates who follow official releases.. no matter what the time the manufacturers decide!

I hope a big improvement in 4.3 camera quality because is the only thing I don't like in my SGN2. I don't know why the video is so perfect and the photos are blurred and the file size is so small even using the Snap Camera... :crying:
What update you N7100 users are sitting on? T-Mobile has 4.1.2.
You know I don't really care for 4.2.2 but there should be at least better options. Like the use of our big screen. It should be like the mega or more tablet like functions.

There was no official mention of the Note 2 getting an upgrade to 4.3

It seems that there is some confusion on weather the Note 2 was mentioned as part of the handsets receiving the 4.3 upgrade this October.
The only phones mentioned were the S3 and S4. There was no other device mentioned.
Most online news sites have reported this. Sources :
Engadget
Android Authority
Sammobile
Andoid Spin
We will most likely get the upgrade. This is not a Samsung hate thread. I just wanna clear up the fact that the only devices that are covered by the update announcement are the S3 and S4. Samsung is most likely just giving the Note 3 more exclusive time with 4.3 and delaying our upgrades after the sales of their new phablet take off.

False , Note 2 is getting
What Engadget reported is not true. Here you go with the official demo by samsung. You can see that Note 2 is getting the 4.3 version by october this year.
http://youtu.be/oMr5gywv0zM?t=3m51s
He says the S3 and Note 2 will receive updates in October. Fair enough he doesn't actually mention android 4.3, but as far as I'm aware, the compatibility with galaxy gear requires Bluetooth 4.0 which is enabled through android 4.3? Not so sure about that last bit so please do correct me of I'm mistaken.
I hope we get the new features of the note 3, I quite fancy the look of the new s note and air command.

Hey I'm glad I read this post confirming N2 is due an update Oct '13. I had my doubts because other threads said N2 update was not mentioned at the unpacking.
I follow your reasoning that the update will likely be 4.3. Otherwise connectivity with the Gear will not be possible. It's been unequivocally stated that 4.3 bluetooth is required - where else would the capabilitycome from? Sammy want us to buy the Gear. It all ties in with rumors Sammy planned skipping 4.2 for 4.3

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Usually I'd think they would wait a couple more months to let the note 3 sales ride out before updating the note 2, but in the interest of getting the gear out there, they might just push it early.
I won't be buying a gear as its not for me, but if we get an early 4.3 update with the new note 3 features because of it, then I'm so very glad it's coming out!!
It's sucks
A year after the Note 2 was release and Samsung did not updated Note 2
that sucks, many other Devices had the 4.2.2 and 4.3 and im in 4.1.2

Plus stock camera and samsung drivers are far beyond any other camera app in the market, CM and AOSP cameras are just pathetic and correct me if I'm wrong but even if S-PEN works in non-samsung based Roms, it doesn't detect the pressure of it.
So I'm still waiting for the update, then the great devs of this forum can do the magic.

[request] [ROM] for Note 2 with all portable things from Note 3 and S4

Hi,
Some of you guys may remember, some of you may not, but soon after our Note 2 was released there was an avalanche of ROMs for Note 1 with features ported from Note 2, like for instance Airview in gallery and videos (Note 1 didn't have that) and multitasking. Some waited for an official ROM by Samsung, and when it eventually came, with la few months of delay, some of those features ported from Note 2 still weren't included.
What I'm saying here is, instead of waiting for that October release, ( http://youtu.be/VbsAslbUYx0?t=50m52s ) those that know how to port are invited to make cool ROMs that have these kind of features from Note 3 and maybe Samsung Galaxy S4 included. (who knows if Samsung is not going to delay the Note2 update again like it did with Note 1 having in view that Android 4.4 is expected to be launched on Oct 14 or maybe they'll surprise us and the October release will jump directly to KitKat )
Now I don't expect this to be easy, porting apps that were made for Android 4.3 and with FHD screen resolution in mind, but I'm just asking this if it's possible.
If you know such ROMs and I missed them, please post them in this thread. Thanks.
(So far these apps from Note 3 seem to work fine on Note 2: Bloomberg+, MagazineHome+Flipboard, SketchBook see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335530 )
Too soon to ask for anything yet, I think. And don't forget, the LTE version of note 2 is the less supported by the community.

Note 8.0 to get 4.3 and multi users

Just got off the phone with the Samsung support, because I was complaining that the Note 8.0 does not have Multi User support. She gave me two bits of information.
1. This device is getting 4.3, but no known release date yet
2. Multi users will be in the update.
That is cool. We have multi user now in some custom roms, however 4.3 would be nice with the enhanced group play features'''

According to SAMSUNG's update strategy we probably will have to wait a long time to receive Kitkat...
I would take anything purported to be from a Samsung support rep with a huge grain of salt. Having said that, I don't doubt that we will get either or both 4.3 and 4.4 eventually. This tab has only been out for 6-7 months.

Why?

Are we getting Android 5.0? Rumors, links, etc..

After only a day from the official presentation from Google, there are already rumors tnat note 2 will get the Android 5.0, or so called Android L.

For me no doubt, that we will get it cause N2 is so popular even after nearly 2 years and Samsung will produce and sell this device surely one more year :good:
I really doubt of an official samsung update.... but let's hope....
Honestly I'd prefere a kernel update on the kitkat release.... and some open sourcing of the exynos ****.... :crying::crying:
Suppose we could hope? Even for KK 4.4.2 or 4.4.3 ota soon?
No we won't get it. It's not the matter of popularity of the device or anything. It's that each manufacturer must provide at least 18 months of support or 3 major updates. We got ourselves 4.1.2, 4.3 and 4.4.2. So yeah, the support for the device is over. Samsung has stop support for S3, so it's our turn now
